The following explanations for the metrics come straight from www.twitalyzer.com.

Influence is calculated based on:

Your relative reach in Twitter, measured by the number of followers you have

Your relative authority, measured by the number of times you are “retweeted“

Your relative generosity, measured by the number of times you “retweet” others

Your relative clout, measured by the number of times you are referenced by others

Your relative velocity, measured by the number of updates you publish over a seven day period

Signal-to-Noise-Ratio is a measure of the tendency for people to pass information, as opposed to anecdote.

By their definition, “signal” will be counted for any update that includes at least one of the following elements:

References to other people (defined by the use of “@” followed by text)

Links to URLs you can visit (defined by the use of “http://” followed by text)

Hashtags you can explore and participate with (defined by the use of “#” followed by text)

Retweets of other people, passing along information (defined by the use of “rt”, “r/t/”, “retweet” or “via”)

Generosity is one’s propensity to “retweet” someone else, thusly creating awareness of their work and ideas among your own followers.

Yes you could sort of stuff this metric by retweeting constantly. However if this is not abused, the authors of the metric figure your RT’s are actually beneficial to the freer flow of information.

Velocity is simply the rate at which you contribute to Twitter. Since the Twitter Search APIs limit us to 1,500 records, at least for the time being, you are judged against a theoretical maximum of 1,500 updates per week.

Clout is simply the number of references to you divided by the total number of possible references (as governed by the Twitter Search APIs).

All in all, you could work on increasing your stats in these metrics to rise in influence rankings, and finding yourself more connected, and influential, on Twitter. Which may or may not have been the reason you got on Twitter the first place. Just remember that it’s about a two-way exchange of information and content, not about a marketing megaphone pointed straight at someone’s head. Twitter is about the relationship!

Some Additional Helpful Metrics at the Bottom of the Results Page:

Finally, you can track who a person is following by looking at Friends, and Followers are people who are following, of course.

Other stats below help a user keep track of some of the metrics that go into the Influence algorithm.

Additional Helpful Stats

The Review:

All in all, it seems like a powerful tool to grab a benchmark for your own performance as compared to other people who are twittering on the Web Sphere. You can also use this tool to determine who you want to follow, or not follow, without having to read someone’s profile, or message them to find out if they’re legitimate, or just another money-generating bot. Tools are included to help you move your way on up the Twitter “Influence” chain. Here’s what a -really- influential person’s Twitalyzer looks like:

Guy Kawasaki:

100%

Caveat:

The level of influence that Guy Kawasaki is at is probably not the level that most lower commitment tweeps would want to operate at. There are probably a lot of posts lined up ahead of time, indicating lots of work to create all that content. The average light twitter user is also probably going to not want to also receive hundreds of tweets per hour, in essence, a dilution of tweet quality, if all you’re really trying to do is keep track of a few friends (something like <100).

In the last few years a number of new private church community networks have been introduced into the market in addition to the development of numerous social networking sites. In January 2009, Unconventional Method began to design research to explore what churches are doing effectively online in this area and help shape the understanding of how churches can use the internet to gather, disciple and build community. From January 27 through February, almost 1,000 people participated in an exploratory survey examining what churches are doing with social and community networks.

Phase I research began to frame the landscape & attitudes in this space. In this research we examined questions such as:

What feature/functionality are Christians seeking for social networking?

What Social Media strategies and services do they or their church use?

What Christian social media websites do they participate in?

WATCH THE WEBINAR Church, Christians and Social Networking
DOWNLOAD STUDY SUMMARY Churches, Christians and Social Networking Study (PDF)

In Phase II of the project, we will be expanding on many of the issues raised in the initial research. Through a more in‐depth survey and targeted phone interviews, we hope to develop a better understand how pervasive the use of these web applications is and how churches are approaching community and social networks.

We will gather data on usage, experiences, satisfaction, behavior, preferences, perceptions, and demographics. We will go beyond traditional metrics in order determine how these tools promote activities that are central to being Christian and being the church. Our aim is to both help bring clarity and guidance for churches to pursue excellence online while providing market intelligence that will help the developers of these applications improve their sales and products.

Ever wonder what churches similar to you are doing IT wise? How many computers do they support? What’s their IT staff size? Do they support multi-site, etc? Or what about those churches several steps ahead of you - what’s their IT makeup look like? How should you plan now to be at that size in the future?
What about trying to find churches around you with experience in VoIP, Virtualization, etc? Wouldn’t it be sweet to have a resource that helped shed some light on these questions? Hopefully this survey can at least get you started in the right direction.

Are you gathering new people? If not, who is visiting your website? Why are they visiting? Where are these visitors coming from? Church website designs have improved greatly over the last few years but are the designs created for the right online visitors? You are invited to participate in ‘The State of the Church Online - Part II Church Websites & Usage ‘ survey. This survey will examine 50-100 church website analytics to find the trends, benchmarks and case studies for excellence as it relates to church website design and usage.

Would you like to submit your church to participate? We ask that you have Google Analytics set-up on your site for at least 3-months, preferably a year. We will ask participating churches to send a quick survey to their members. Make sure either you are the contact person or you can provide the person who can send church members a quick survey regarding their usage of the church website?

In addition to this survey you can also participate in The State of the Church Online - Part I Social & Community Networks survey. Our prayer is that these studies help bring clarity and guidance for churches to pursue excellence online to the glory of God.

In the last couple years a number of new private church community networks have been launched in addition to numerous social networking sites. We are still very early on in understanding what churches are doing effectively online. You are invited to participate in this first survey of several that examine the State of the Church Online. Church Social Networking & Online CommunitiesThis survey in particular begins by examining what churches are doing with social and community networks. How pervasive are the use of these web applications? Future surveys will expand to examine what Christians are doing with social networks, how churches are using their websites and other online strategies. Our prayer is that these studies help bring clarity and guidance for churches to pursue excellence online to the glory of God.

This survey is being led by Kevin Ring. Kevin brings years of experience from Bainbridge Consulting leading qualitative research projects - designing and executing customer/competitive research and analysis across multiple industries, focused on Fortune 500 companies including Google, Yahoo!, Citibank, Hewitt Associates, Gallup, Bank of America and others.
