Angelic Layer gets new DVD and Blu-Ray releases

The anime adaptation of Angelic Layer (originally aired in 2001) will get a new DVD Box release and, for the first time, a Blu-Ray release.

According to CD Japan, they will be released on March 26 and will feature pictured-label and digipack. Each release also include an original card.

The DVD Box will cost 25.200 yens and the Blu-Ray Box 47.000 yens.

I missed this show! I totally love it =D

From last week's preview, I thought this episode would be completely original, but it had a few manga elements. I really like how they blend original and manga elements in one episode, it makes the episode less original (and makes the series longer).

The story about the fireflies was cute xD The animation was a little odd in this episode, though.

Next episode we finally get to see the other creatures! Can't wait for it =)

• OAD:

The official website for the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs has been updated carrying now information about the upcoming XXXHOLiC OAD. Here are some specifications:

Original Animation DVD XXXHOLiC・Rou
Release date: April 23, 2010.
Running time: 40 minutes.
Price: 4,800 yens.
Privilege: Tall DVD case illustration drawn by CLAMP.

Staff and cast will be the same, and as I announced previously, Nanase Ohkawa will also write the script for this installment.

There will be a campaign for the reservations done by bookstores, you have to fill the reservation form (PDF available in the website), deliver it at a bookstore, take a picture of the bookstore and send the picture to a QR code that can be seen in the form as well.

The prizes of the campaign include tickets to the OAD premiere, which will be held in Tokyo in March, and a "Mu jet graph" (out of 5 available) featuring a new illustration drawn by CLAMP.

Very happy to know that this one will have 40 minutes! =D And lots of original goodies there. DVD case illustrated by CLAMP, new illustration for the campaign and there is also a premiere scheduled! I hope CLAMP will attend that one =)

"Kobato. Museum" report, Romantic World 31 pictures

Just a heads up that the official website of the Kobato. TV Anime added a report from the Kobato. Museum that is being held at the Ikebukuro Animate store until November 1st.

XXXHOLiC OAD to be released with volume 17

According to this blog, this week's issue of Young Magazine is announcing that the upcoming new XXXHOLiC OAD will be released along with volume 17 in the Spring of 2010.

So the schedule goes as following:

December 22, 2009 - XXXHOLiC #16.
Spring 2010 - XXXHOLiC #17 with limited edition OAD.

Seems like XXXHOLiC will go on for a little longer. Personally I don't like that, but oh well xD

I'm starting to think the series has been extended beyond CLAMP's original plan due to its popularity.

So far, I think this was probably the episode with least manga elements and most original elements?

I expected Kohaku's introduction to be somewhat more grandeur, maybe causing a bit more of a shock in Ioryogi? But it's fine I guess.

I'm trying to place this into Wish's storyline, I would say Kohaku is in the midst of trying to grant Shuuichirou's wish? I don't think this is the reincarnated version of Shuuichirou. This could also be kind of parallel story with no relation to the plot of Wish. We need to wait more.

It was very nice to see the scene with Kohaku controlling water, for me it was this episode's highlight. The scene was totally taken out of Wish, it was like seeing Wish animated!

Kohaku's voice annoyed me a little (but not so much) because he is supposed to be super cute and it sounded so forced at some parts (for me anyway xD).

I didn't expect Ushagi to appear in this episode! I like the little noises that it does XD Although I didn't expect, it was nice to see it because the plot thickened some more for the anime-only viewers, it might be tiresome to see Kobato's attempts to heal people without some kind of deadline. I also expected Ioryogi to be more (even more than he was) shocked upon Ushagi's appearance.

I do hope that the scene with Fujimoto and Touya dressed as giant Ushagis is still going to happen.

It was obvious that Kobato can't heal Kohaku's heart so easily. I assume it will only be healed once he grants Shuuichirou's wish?

Too bad next week there is break =/ I like this anime so much! And what the hell Kobato is doing wearing the same pink dress? What about "there will be new costumes for each episode", huh? Bring Mokona to the staff right NAO, LOL!

XXXHOLiC #16 release date

There has been a small change in the release date of XXXHOLiC #16, it will now be released on December 22, according to Kodansha. It was previously scheduled for December 26.

Still no word about the release of the OAD version.

I didn't like very much the fact that Chitose's introduction was made in such a moody episode (due to all the rain xD). I had pictured a sunny xD

I was concerned about Chitose's voice, but I think it fits =D

Nice to see Ueda there! (and his lost umbrella xD) I guess we will have that Christmas episode on Christmas time. He looked rather weird though (not good-looking enough xD)

As I thought, they replaced Hinata for the look-alike girl (only in appearance xD). I believe this change was made so that they could focus on the girl and make Kobato heal her. In terms of writing an anime episode, it would be better than just put there a cameo appearance and let the episode feeling incomplete.

I do hope on another rainy episode we get to see Hinata sharing her umbrella with Asou xD

But yey Piffle Princess store is there! ♥

I LOVED the scene with Kobato arriving late at Yomogi Nursery School, the pinching was so cuuuuute XD

Yay for Chise and Chiho! They look adorable and their cheeks look pinchable. I noticed, however, that they didn't mention their "papa" as in the manga. I hope that doesn't mean we won't be seeing Icchan (I had hopes for the anime).

Surprised to see Kohaku and Shuuichirou making such an early appearance! And looks like they will appear some more in the next episode.

Clearly Kobato.'s anime adaptation will be very similar to CCS in terms of series composition. We all saw this coming with only 4 volumes out and 24 episodes scheduled. Not only I think Kobato will heal more people (just like the CCS anime had more Clow cards) but also some events will happen in a different order.

But so far so great! I'm enjoying even though it's different from the manga. It's a different kind of "different", it's like CCS if you know what I mean XD

I don't know what CLAMP is planning here but if you want my opinion, I wouldn't call that a "new series" and I still think this is the same XXXHOLiC that is about to end (that's what I hope so, at least XD).

• Comics:

According to Kodansha, XXXHOLiC #16 will be released on December 26. What is strange is that so far they don't list the OAD version.

Has it been postponed to a possible volume 17? xD Or maybe they will add it later?

Romantic World 31 covers

As I reported previously, CLAMP would draw the art for voice actor Jun Fukuyama's original album called Romantic World 31. The cover would be a collage between CLAMP's art and Jun Fukuyama's picture.

Today Jun Fukuyama posted on his official blog the album covers, check them out:

I liked this episode as much as I liked the first one, actually I think I even like this one a bit more. I was relieved that the animation quality was similar to episode 1 (we know how usually the first and last episodes get the prettiest animation). I guess you can't expect less from Madhouse ^_~

I'm very fond of the soundtrack, I think it fits, it's very easy-going and it's well-used.

Not sure I liked the Punk dude addition, that dude is so not "Kobato." if you know what I mean xD

The kids are adorable, but I think they are more adorable in the manga xD It's very nice to see Yomogi Nursery School all colored =)

I'm still getting used to Sayaka's voice. Sometimes I think it fits sometimes I think it doesn't, but it's just a matter of getting used to it. But I like it more than I don't.

I told this before but I must say it again. I'm extremely happy with Kobato's character and seiyuu, her faces are priceless, they crack me up!

I was worried about Toshihiko's scene too, but it was as cute and sad as the manga xD I am glad he was also the first person she healed =) I'm not too sure about Toshihiko's voice either... but the voice of the girl with the pigtails is very cute.

I wish they would introduce Chitose already! And I wish Kobato would move to a real place and not live in that playground tube XD

It seems like the next episode will be the one with the rain, but I don't see Hinata there... I see a different look-alike girl. Are they making adaptations? D=

AmiAmi has information about the upcoming DVD releases for the Kobato. TV Anime.

It will be a total of 12 DVDs containing 2 episodes each released by Kadokawa Entertainment. They will be released in regular and special limited editions.

The limited edition of DVD 1 will come with a Box illustrated by CLAMP to store the first 6 DVDs (hopefully a second Box will be released later to store the other half).

This is the book version of the CLAMP Newtype [PLATINUM] and [PASTEL] special magazines originally published in 2006, it carries information about all CLAMP works and also X 18.5.

This will be released on October 26.

What a disappointment. Not only the illustrations aren't new, but the typography is also hideous xD

I watched it and I simply LOVED every bit of it. The beginning and the part where she gets the bottle are SO much better than the manga version (in the manga, Ioryogi pulls the bottle out of his back-pocket, WTF? Not very climatic), the anime version is so much more epic, LOL! And the beginning it's like she comes down to Earth like an angel, very cool!

Loved all the voices, Kobato's one is so adorable (not as desperate as shown in the PV xD But I like her desperate voice anyway). Every now and then Ioryogi's voice would annoyingly remind me of Kurogane, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

GREAT animation, the colors are so vivid. That is why MADHOUSE OWNS the spot of best animation studio for CLAMP in my ranking. I loved the SDs parts, the comedy is just as the right level (the "DOBATO" and "DABADA" at the end? Awesome). Soundtrack sounds very nice too.

What else? The OP is lovely, although I have to agree with my friend Sakura84-chan, it's rather simple. The ED is even simpler, with the bottle just spinning around, but the 3D looks neat.

I loved the bottle too! Although sometimes it looked like it was much smaller than in the manga xD

I approve the script changes (*cough* written by Ohkawa *cough*), giving her the bottle right at the end of the episode is a good way to hook whoever is only watching the anime and hasn't been following the manga. Much better than 9 episodes of Exams.

I was surprised the grandma wasn't really XXXHOLiC's grandma! Haha! I do hope we will get to see the rest of the crossovers from the Exams. though (Asou and Hinata, Misaki, Tamayo, XXXHOLiC grandma herself, maybe she will be in the New Year's episode, etc).

I simply LOVED it! You feel so great when you're watching it, it's so calm and easy-going just like reading the manga. This looks so promissing!

GO MADHOUSE GO I MISSED YOU!

CLAMP draws "Happy Ko" (again)

A new illustration drawn by CLAMP of the "Happy Ko" character was broadcast today in NHK's kids show, Ten TV-kun MAX (or whatever it's called xD):

The illustration above was taken from the show's official website. There's also a message from CLAMP, they said that this time the clothes are matching the arrival of the Autumn.

"Happy Ko" is a character played by one of the show's young hostesses, Fujii Chiho, she presents the "Girls Corner" of the show.

So cute! I'm glad it was a new drawing after all =)

The Kobato. anime starts today and has already aired in Japan! Who else is excited? \o/\o/\o/

TRC Special Chapter

Now THIS looks like a much proper ending!

So I take back part of my last week ranting (I so saw this coming xD), c'mon, you didn't think CLAMP would do that to us, did you? ("for a second there, I kinda did" - Beatrix Kiddo, Kill Bill Vol. 1).

It's nice to see what happens to all of them. Seems like just a couple of days have passed. I kinda hoped we would see a glimpse of the vampire twins but man, their storyline was completely left out xD I do think we will see them again in some future CLAMP work, though.

Sakura having another serious dream made me think "oh shit, it's gonna start all over again" XD

So glad to see Nadeshiko and Fujitaka! I still need to figure out how everything went back to what it was before, I haven't really stopped to think through yet, specially because that Sakura is the same one that fell in love for the clone, but she is now in love with the real!Syaoran. That was a little odd, but CLAMP sometimes can be very odd with love xD

I like the bit about the price, how Syaoran must keep on traveling while Watanuki must stay in one place. But again I didn't really think too much about the logic here (Fye is giving some convincing explanation but I haven't really thought through too much, I am guessing it will make more sense when I re-read everything at one shot).

I also like that Syaoran want to try and find a way to bring the clones' souls (that are living inside Syaoran and Sakura) back to some kind of "life" again. It sort of leaves the door wide open for these characters, making it possible to see them again in future works.

The confession scene was LOVELY. I LOVED it XD It was so nice to have Syaoran saying instead of Sakura. She promised way back in Chapter 1 and it's only fair to have it on the final chapter, but making Syaoran the one saying it makes it even better.

I LOVED that their true names are Tsubasa. I don't know why I love it so much.... but I can't see a more suitable name for them XD It's so cute! At least we got that mystery cleared!

Here is a funny story, when Tsubasa was about to start, there was a little image in Shonen Magazine's website showing Syaoran's face and if you put the mouse over it, you could read "Tsubasa". For a moment (when I still didn't know he was Syaoran, no one knew), I kinda thought his name could be Tsubasa! LOL! I wasn't all that wrong, then ^^;

I'm still sort of disappointed for FWR... but there is still hope in XXXHOLiC. Maybe we'll be able to directly or indirectly find out more about him...

Overall the ending felt very "CLAMP" to me. It's a happy ending, but a bittersweet one. The main couple is together but they are paying a heavy price in order to have that.

Before I go, I just wanted to say that I love Clow fashion xD

Also, slightly off, but I found out today that on December 4, Mika Kikuchi (Mokona's seiyuu in Tsubasa) is marrying Yuuji Kishi, who played Fuuma in the Tsubasa OADs. Apparently their relationship started during the Tsubasa after-recording sessions =) Check out CLAMP's messages for the couple.

They are all saying "Mokona is marrying Fuuma!" and as if that wasn't enough, Nekoi made this lovely drawing:

The page for the Kobato. TV Anime from NHK's website has been updated, it includes the title of the first 4 episodes:

Episode 1 - ...Wishing Girl. (…願う少女。)
Episode 2 - ...Sparkling Konpeitou*. (…コンペイトウの輝き。)
Episode 3 - ...Rain's Present. (…雨の贈りもの。)
Episode 4 - ...Throbbing Fresh Leaves. (…青葉のときめき。)

(I'm not too sure of those translations since I translated them myself XD If you spot a miskate, let me know!)

* Konpeitou are candies made in Kyoto. I think they refer to the little things that appear in Kobato's bottle each time she heals someone.

We can tell that it looks like the episode titles of Kobato. will always start with a "..." and a period at the end ^^ Worth mentioning that they are already talking about the little sparkling things from her bottle in episode 2? Will she already have the bottle by then?

Also, Presepe has an interview with some cast members and the director of the anime during one of the after-recording sessions.

• Tsubasa:

Mainichi has an article about the end of Tsubasa's serialization and according to it, Tsubasa has sold over 20 million manga copies so far (volumes 1 to 27). That amount basically corresponds to 20% of CLAMP's overall comics sales (currently around 100 million copies).

Congratulations to Tsubasa!

By the way, the next chapter of Tsubasa will be definitely an epilogue and will be called "The World Afterwards" (その後の世界).

• Featuring CLAMP:

A few months ago I posted here the drawing that CLAMP did for the character Happy Ko from the NHK children's show Ten Tere MAX, that character appears in the Girls Communication corner of the show and it's played by one of the young hostesses, Fujii Chiho.

That character will once again make an appearance on the episode that will air on Octocer 6. It is not known whether it'll be a new drawing of the same one that we've already seen.

In the same episode there will also be an introduction for the Kobato. anime.

• Event:

CLAMP's art exposition that was held in Paris from July to September has safely ended and CLAMP-NET.COM informs that the total number of attendees was of 10.000 during the 56 days of its run.

TRC #232 - The End

I can't believe I'm writing about the last chapter of Tsubasa. Somehow it feels good xD

I haven't been writing comments about TRC and XXXHOLiC lately because the development in both series was so slow and the amount of breaks was so many that my enthusiasm to write about them decreased many levels. But this is the "final" chapter, it's only right to talk about it =)

I have been reading Tsubasa since Chapter 1, where it looked like such a promising series (and it was!). Since then I've been following it every single week for over 6 years, it was the first CLAMP work that I read on real time from start to finish.

But I'm still so disappointed xD

I loved Tsubasa, CLAMP managed to keep the story interesting enough to always make me eager for the next chapter. They were cliffhanger masters. But this ending feels completely empty and incomplete and vague and... yeah.

It didn't surprise me in any way (not even not reading any spoilers helped). It didn't feel like a proper closure as it barely shows what happened to the main characters, let alone the secondary characters.

Right, we still have the one next chapter, which I think will be some sort of epilogue, and there is XXXHOLiC too, but it will take a LOT to make up for this sense of unfinished story.

I won't even try to list all the answered questions, it's far too many, but if I were to name one thing, I would say it was the lack of explanation about Fei Wang. We still don't know who he is, what is his relation with Clow (right, he is related to him, but in what level?), and most importantly, what were his real intentions? I can't believe he is the badass villain that CLAMP never had. If that is the case, what a disappointment. Even Taishakuten had more decent reasons (and he was far more cruel than Fei Wang).

We don't know what happened to Kurogane, Fye, not to mention the vampire subplot that was totally forgotten. But for those I still hope we will see something about in next week's chapter.

This last chapter was more about Watanuki and Syaoran than Sakura and Syaoran, what the hell? I got the message that CLAMP wanted to pass with Tsubasa, that the real ones will live off the clones' memories. It's a very beautiful message, but there is absolutely NO NEED to do all that mess for 28 volumes to pass such message XD I would have gotten anyway with a simpler plot with much less holes.

I think CLAMP got way too carried away in the "fantasy" aspect of the story. I look back now and can point out many unnecessary events which caused nothing but plotholes (and entertainment for the reader, of course).

I wonder if CLAMP is playing some kind of prank on us ("HAHAHA they think this is the end!"), but sometimes I think this is exactly the sort of thing that CLAMP would do, so xD I shall wait for what they have in store for next week's chapter, and also for XXXHOLiC. But please don't make a Tsubasa - RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE - 2. It has been a long, fun and great journey, but I'm ready to get off this ride.

At least the colored pages were GORGEOUS (and it looks like the tankoubon will have an extra color page?).

Kobato. TV Anime Press Conference

Today there was a press conference in Tokyo at NHK Broadcasting Central where the first episode of the Kobato. TV series was shown. Kobato's seiyuu, Kana Hanazawa, and director Mitsuyuki Masuhara attended the event.

There isn't much info except for the director saying that the 4 seasons of the year will be an important theme in the story and Kobato's costumes will change in every episode.

I hadn't realize how cute Kana Hanazawa is until now XD She reminds me of Juri Ueno from Nodame Cantabile somehow (I think it's the haircut).
