Hog Farmer Ron Suther of Kansas City has this to say, “If a person is sick, we don’t want you coming anywhere on the farm,” after all the reasoning is clear, it’s humans that are mostly infected and affected by the swine flu, not pigs. At least not yet. Ron Suther is banning humans from his property, and the ones that need to be there, have to detail their travels and any family sickness.

He said that the biggest concern is that your herd could somehow contract this illness from humans. There are no pig anti virals, if the pig population gets the flu, the farmer may have a catastrophe on their hands. Well, in a sense they already do. With the flu being called the swine flu, it devasted the pork industry already. Countries all over the world have banned intake of pork, especially from countries, and states that have had any human connection to the virus.

Unfortunately, Egypt took the stance to eradicate all pigs in the country. This was done with no knowledge of a single swine flu infection at all in the country. Even before this recent problem, pork producers were having a hard time because of higher grain prices and lower demand.

The World Health Organization now calls the flu, the H1N1 solely, and wants everyone else to follow suit and avoid calling it the swine flu. I think the damage has been done in that department however. The best that can happen is for people to realize that there is NO DANGER OF EATING PORK at all. In fact, right now is the time to buy pork, as prices are really low all around.

Take these flu precautions

The flu seems to be lessening it vigor, but it is still good to take precautions:

1). Stay home as much as possible

2). Stay out of crowds

3). If you are sick stay home

4). Wash your hand very frequently when out of the house

5). Avoid people that are coughing and sneezing

6). If you go to the hospital make sure you are sick, and call ahead, so they can protect others.

7). Usually this flu will come with a fever over 100.5

8). When going into a building that has a left and right door to walk thru, take the left door.

9). Grab the bottom of a large handled door rather than the top, where most people grab it.

GENEVA: WHO spokesman Dick Thompson said that the agriculture industry and the U.N. food agency had expressed concerns that the term “swine flu” was misleading consumers and needlessly causing countries to ban pork products and order the slaughter of pigs.

Well, I don’t think they have fixed the problem. You see, the problem is that humans, all over the world think this virus is a “swine flu” virus, when it is clearly mostly not. If the Virus were 8 parts — say, 1 part would be bird flu, 2 parts would be swine flu and 5 parts would be regular old human virus.

No normal humans, (i.e. non clinical people) will call it the H1N1 A Virus, so this great name change, will in fact mean NOTHING. Maybe this name change was decided by a committee, because it is well known –  nothing good comes out of a committee. Just bad plans — because they don’t focus on just the main problem. They have lots of problems to solve, like not wanting to call it the Mexican Flu, which is probably the only possibility to save the slaughter of pigs.

So, they will be accurate, and not really rename it, but call it by it’s clinical name. And in the end, accomplish nothing. I have the feeling that the FLU is not a killer, and the news organizations are just tired of talking about President Obama, and want a change. But, News is worthless unless you get viewers, and believe me, they know how to turn the screws on fear, which they have been doing, and now we have a lot of over reactions that will cost us money in lowered business, etc.

Think about it, every flu season people are asked to get flu shots. Why? Because the weak, the very young and the very old aren’t strong enough for the flu. They end up with pneumonia, and sometimes die. The statistics for this flu are probably very similar to any other flu that comes out in a season. So, I think we are over reacting. As Dr. Dean Edell said earlier this week on the radio …”Unless something has happened that I don’t know about, I wouldn’t worry about this flu…you probably have a much higher risk of death driving to El Paso than simply being there.”

Yesterday, at 9:30 a.m., Fox reporter William La Jeunesse went out on assignment to a pig farm in Fresno, California.   He filed a televised report explaining what makes up the virus and how it was created, or is believed to have been created.

He says it is thought that birds, who had bird flu, flew over a pig who had swine flu. The birds droppings fell near the pig, who ingested part of it. He said that swine flu is active in the intestines and was a cozy place for the 2 viruses to live together in the pigs’ intestines. This could have happened with many pigs.

Soon, aspects of the two viruses merged together, and became an avian plus — swine flu virus. Or maybe, you could call it avian/swine flu. Remember, too that the pig may have been asymptomatic. That means that it showed no signs of illness. Now, pigs also can sneeze and cough, and phlegm can be spread around by these animals as well.

Then, a human, gets involved. He only need touch a contaminated surface and then later touch his nose, eyes or mouth to be infected. This human had to have a human virus as well, at the time. Apparently the avian/swine flu and the human flu incubated together to then form a swine flu. But that is a swine flu that is maybe 1 part bird, 2 parts swine and 5 parts human virus.

So, if that is the case, the swine flu could be misnamed, and there are lots of people and PIGS unhappy about this.

People are foolishly avoiding eating pork like the plague. Yet no one has ever gotten a flu by eating a pig, or a bird.  After all, it is cooked, and it is not any kind of threat. Yet in Egypt they are needlessly killing off whole herds of pigs!!!  Even though there are NO cases of swine flu in Egypt! Lets not get carried away people   ……..

The fact that this virus is probably going to go global is not the end of the world. Regrettably, there have been a few deaths.   But, every new virus can kill the very weak, which is the very young and the very old. This is what has happened. There are relatively few deaths. In general, as Dr. Dean Edell has already stated this week on the radio, it is a mild virus and nothing to worry so much over.

True, it may become a world-wide flu, but it just doesn’t seem to be any worse than any other new virus. It is just getting a lot of attention, partly because the world does worry and fret over the possibility that is very real that one day a killer flu like the Spanish Flu of 1918 was.

So, let’s rename this flu the Mexican flu. Or, go by it’s technical name H1N1.

Government officials have officially confirmed that a 23 month old child has succumbed early Wednesday to the swine flu. No other details are available at this time. This is the first reported death outside of Mexico, which is the country hardest hit by the influenza outbreak.

It is reported that US has seen thus far 65 cases, nearly all of them mild, as Dr. Dean Edell has commented earlier in the week.

Some bloggers are reporting that the best defense against the swine flu is limiting as much contact with people as possible.
