We Recommend: G-Man!

2009-11-17T02:39:00.000-06:00

Anybody who's been routinely buying Marvel comics is already familiar with the work of Chris Giarrusso, whose parody strip Mini Marvels ran in Marvel books for years...
these led to his Comic Bits backup feature in Savage Dragon and eventually to his first G-Man series, Learning To Fly. Now G-man is back in G-Man: Cape Crisis. Giarrusso has a killer sense of humor, lacing what is actually a fairly action-packed book with lots of recurring gags and superhero parody.
if you've been reading Cape Crisis, click the cover for a preview of #4, but if not, do yourself a favor and go to ChrisG Comics.com and get familiar! G-Man: Cape Crisis #4 hits comics shops November 18th

Steve Harvey presents Roopster Roux

2009-09-30T23:59:00.000-05:00

Many know Steve Harvey as one of the Original Kings of Comedy, but he is also the face and narrator of the children's book series Roopster Roux. Now this series is being adapted by Bluewater Productions into an original story graphic novel.

The series chronicles the adventures of a sports-loving rooster who enjoys reading and whose heroic deeds are due in large part to the knowledge Roopster gains through various books. Aided by his super-charged skateboard, Roopster delivers positive educational messages while keeping readers entertained with action-packed adventures.

Harvey will serve as the on-page narrator for the newest comic adaptation written by series creator Lavaille Lavette. The graphic novel is scheduled for release in 2010. The graphic novel with be written by Ryan Burton (Female Force: Stephenie Meyer & Flying Saucers Vs the Earth) and drawn by Erik Thompson (Steve Lawlis & Atlas).

"I'm pleased and excited to partner with Bluewater Productions, said Lavette. Bluewater has a proven success record in the graphic novel universe. The Roopster Roux graphic novel series will be full of exciting adventures, destined to take the Roopster Roux character to new heights'

the Art of Graffiti

2009-05-24T02:14:00.000-05:00

So Much Love In Just One Can #1
by Tanya Frable (Ms. Mensen), and Jay Moreno
A contemporary graffiti and street art coloring book for kids and bombed out black book for their adults. This book features work by Pose2, Sew, Sye, PRVRT, Zimad and many more. Kid's need to learn about graffiti from someone other than the status quo that teaches them it's an eyesore. 50% of the profit goes to Pose2's Graffiti: The Art Form Class and the tri-city B-Boy BBQ. Printing on acid free 80lb paper makes this book a cool, fun activity for a rainy Portland day.

Classics Never Get Old!

2009-05-22T12:29:00.000-05:00

Mulan is one of my favorite Disney Animated Films. it's rare to see them depart from European fables and venture into other cultures, but they did a great job of it with Mulan! the movie has great iconic character design and balances action and great music for a story that both kids and adults can enjoy. Eddie Murphy (Shrek, Daddy Day Care) holds it down as the hilariously hapless spirit guardian Mushu. as a man with a baby daughter, I like that Mulan reminds little girls what a determined woman can do!

Marley's Favorite Book

2009-05-13T12:10:00.000-05:00

right now, my daughter Marley's favorite book is Sweet, Sweet Baby! by Javaka Steptoe. it's a puffy flower with plush pages and a plastic mirror on the back. the pages have cute illustrations, and Marley loves that mirror! Marley's "pre-verbal", but this book is short and (as the title suggests) super-duper sweet! great for babies!

Alyssa Huang interviews the creator of Bone

2009-01-07T21:08:00.000-06:00

check out this GREAT interview of Jeff Smith, the writer and artist of a fun adventure/fantasy comic called Bone. it feels like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Donald Duck, but it's also totally different! the original Bone comics were in black and white (which is cheaper and easier to make), but now Scholastic has reprinted the stories in color, so it's even MORE like reading one of those cartoons from tv! take a look inside Bone Volume 1: Out From Boneville here.
