Park at the Park

We are searching for motivated, enthusiastic individuals to join our team during the Circleville Pumpkin Show and be part of one of the best parking crews in town.

Our biggest fundraising event of the year is upon us - parking cars at Ted Lewis Park during Pumpkin Show. It's really important, but not just in financial terms - not just because it allows us to provide a high-quality, affordable youth sports experience to over 200 girls every year. It's important because we get to proudly represent our community to thousands of visitors who take the time to visit Circleville during the Pumpkin Show. For many of those visitors, their first encounter with our community will be with one of our parking attendants, and we want to make a good first impression.

We are parking cars 8AM-8PM Wednesday 10/19 and Thursday 10/20. If you can give a few hours of your time to help us out, it will make a difference. Adults and high school students are welcome.

Anyone who works a four hour shift will receive a $40 voucher for player fees for the 2012 softball season.

We're always looking for the next opportunity to improve your experience with the Circleville Girls Softball League, and we have the hardest working crew of volunteers in town. You may have noticed some of the recent construction down at Ted Lewis park to improve and expand our fields. Almost all of that work was done by CGSL volunteers, and it's a great example of what our community can accomplish when we focus our effort and resources. We have several other projects planned for the coming year, and the funds we raise from parking this month will be vital to completing those tasks.

It was a difficult season dealing with weather right up until the very end. We want to thank all the players, parents, and volunteers that endured all the weather delays and the ever-changing schedule.

As we do every year, we will reflect back on the season and look for any opportunity to serve the girls better in the future. Also, our board elections will take place next month, so if you would like to volunteer your time to help guide and improve the league, you can nominate yourself to fill one of seven the vacating positions. Constructive feedback on the season is always welcome, just visit our contact page.

2011 Registration is Closed

Coaches will draft teams in the peanut, mosquito, and minor divisions Sunday, April 3, and those players will be contacted by their coaches in the coming week. Major division teams will be drafted Sunday April 10.

2011 Pre-Season Player Evaluation Clinic Canceled

Unfortunately, we are canceling this year's player evaluation clinic. The weather does not look promising for an outdoor event this weekend, and we were unable to find an available indoor facility.

What does this mean?

The clinic helps coaches see the players before the player draft. It also helps us identify players who may need to play up or down from their assigned division. However, we will still hold our team drafts as scheduled, and we will do our best to maintain equity among the teams.

Team drafts for the Peanut, Mosquito, and Minor divisions this Sunday 4/3. Players in these three divisions should hear from their coach early next week.

The Major division coaches will hold their draft April 20th.

Last Call - Register at Elks This Saturday

This Saturday, March 12, is our last call for walk-in registration. CGSL volunteers will be at the Elks in Circleville 9AM until Noon.

Registration and OCU Tune-up Session

We are getting excited to start the 2011 season. You know it's all about having some fun on the dirt, so if you know girls who have never played with us before, encourage them to come out this year and see what they're missing.

Final Registration
Tomorrow (Saturday March 5) is our last scheduled in-person registration event. You can register at either of two locations.

OCU - You can attend the free Ohio Christian University Tune-Up Session and get registered all at once. We will have a registration table there in the gymnasium. That session runs from 9AM until Noon. OCU Circleville is located at 1476 Lancaster Pike

Elks - We will also be at the Elks Building in Circleville at 215 N. Court Street from 9AM until Noon.

If you haven't signed up, we hope to see you at either location tomorrow.

Our first of two live registration events is this Saturday, February 26, 9:00 AM until Noon at the Elks building in Circleville. You can get all the registration details here.

We will have sample uniforms available, so even if you have registered online, you can still stop by to check uniform sizes if you're not sure.

Get Tuned-Up with Ohio Christian University Softball

We are pleased to announce that Coach Emory Clark and his Ohio Christian University softball squad is offering a free tune-up session for all girls registered with CGSL for the 2011 season.

Members of the OCU Lady Trailblazers will be providing fundamental instruction in all areas of the game: hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running, pitching, and catching. Players should wear gym shoes and bring gloves, bats and helmets. (CGSL will provide some league bats and helmets for use during the session)

LOCATION: OCU Gymnasium (1476 Lancaster Pike, Circleville)

DATE: Saturday, March 5

TIME: 9AM-Noon

COST: Free to players registered with CGSL (volunteers will be present to register players on-site)

Help Wanted

We will be parking cars at Ted Lewis Park this year during the Pumpkin Show on saturday. Workers usually work either 2 or 4 hour shifts. If you are tired of the expensive food, crowded streets and want to help us park cars please let us know. We begin parking at 8 am and typically park untill 8 pm.

Day 13: Are we tired yet?

We are nearing the halfway mark, and unfortunately we have lost ground this week. Being a small community competing in a nationwide contest, we could just throw up our hands, throw in the towel, pack it in, call it quits, and no one would blame us. What we were we thinking anyway?

Or we can push harder. We can come together as a community and let people know that our kids deserve our best effort regardless of the outcome.

We teach our girls that winning is not the only reason to play. We teach them that giving their best effort is how you grow. We teach them to play to the last inning, and swing hard every time. So now let's all put our words into action and spend the next two weeks convincing some people that our town and our girls are worth a vote every day.

Thanks to everyone who is continuing to vote everyday. Extra thanks to those who are taking the initiative to get others to vote with them. The good news is that we are not falling back in the rankings, but we need to ramp up our efforts if we are going to make any forward progress. We will be attending some local sporting events as well as the Ohio State football game this weekend to round up some extra votes. Look for us, and if you have ideas please share them.
