Well, as many of you know, I’ve been doing some welding lately, as evidenced by several custom parts on my Rat pocketbike. Recently, I decided to put my welding skills to the test (I’ve actually been on this project a couple of weeks) and build myself a pocketbike. The catch is, it’s not just any pocketbike. This is all custom-built from scrap metal I had just laying around, plus parts from several junker bikes and gopeds.

So it begins ….. the Re-Cycle.

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p…ttankengin.jpg

Height: 20" at handlebars, 15" at seat
Length: 28"
Width: 8"
Wheels: 4" goped wheels
Drivetrain: 47cc pocketbike engine with CVT

Required:
-Needs to be short enough to fit under the tonneau cover of my truck so it can be fully closed and locked - max 16".
-Front end easily removable to accomplish this, perhaps removeable handlebars.
-Use pocketbike engine and goped wheels for drivetrain - #25 chain.
-EXTRA CHALLENGE: make it all from recycled metal laying around. Only purchased items can be drivetrain and wheels.

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p…ebeginning.jpg

The frame is made of four tire irons welded together, the inside of the wrench ends filled with - what else? - car lugnuts. The engine plate used to be part of an office keyboard track, with a curved slot cut out for carburetor clearance, and the crossmembers on the frame were bicycle kickstands.

The head tube is a small section of pipe with car lugnuts on either end, and a large 1/4" gusset plate to tie it into the arms of the frame.

Comparison - that’s a full-size Cag/Daytona frame the bike is sitting next to:
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p…sizedCagfr.jpg

(** Note: Earlier photos show a different head tube, made from a small section of 3/8" water pipe inside two sleeves, attached to one arm of a 3-piece bicycle crank. This design didn’t work out very well, as the pipes wouldn’t take a good weld and hold together. After several hours of frustration and easily-broken welds - not to mention enough cussing to make a sailor blush - out came the cutting wheel. **)

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p…themistake.jpg

The rear wheel mounts are cut-down training wheel mounts. A funny thing about goped wheels - the axles are fastened INSIDE the wheels, and can’t be slid out like regular pb wheels (or if they have, I haven’t found out how yet.) To accomodate this, slots were cut in the axle mounts with a 4" angle grinder and cutting wheel.
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p…kets-aintm.jpg

The front forks are also tire irons, with 1/4" steel plate for triple trees, and chopped-down training wheel mounts, doing the same trick with the slot. (Been using a LOT of cutting wheels - that 1/4" plate is tough stuff!)

Gas tank is a stock Cag/Dayona tank, secured with a big ol’ hose clamp in pure redneck style. Yup, that IS a bicycle seat!
hey, this is my x18
its the rising sun edition
this bike is a race bike, it is also a legal bike plated and insured
it is a 08 model with a 150cc motor in it, custom exhaust, dual front disc brakes
i have a few options with this bike, i have a stretched arm for dragracing and a short one for street/track use
maxxis tires, asv levers, even a custom gas cap
the body is custom made in aluminum for the lower fairings and hand painted by me over a weeks time
favorite thing about the bike: i can ride it whenever now
worst thing about the bike: the gas mileage, like 30 miles a tank

Where to begin……I had my bike for alittle over 4yrs.All i ever did was race it.Wether it be in a lot or a track. The bike was built to do only one thing and that’ to be raced.

It has come along ways from being stock,so the bike has evolved many times over from suspension to motor to light chassis mods.
I named my bike the dirty girl because every time i would lube up the chain. Then i’d go for alittle test run.The chain lube would get slung all over the place and with the slicks picking up the little debris, it would stick to the chassis and things.Plus some of the war scares she aquired over the years.LOL The bike is an x18.

                                   The mod list includes:
1.yx 150cc base.
2.Nology coil.
3.Nology fire wire.
4.a big bore kit
5.TB v2 roller rocker head.(ported and polished)
6.28mm mikuni flatslide pumper carb.(This carb has a spray nozzle that sprays the fuel)Not as radical as my 28mm FCR down draft. But i got the motor tuned in easier with the Mikuni.LOL
7.A Dr.Frankenstien big bore custom underslung exhaust.
8.Tb oil cooler and braided lines.
9.custom dual front disc brakes.(with larger x18 rear rotors up front for the larger discs)
10.A custom front fork brace. It actually serves 2 purposes.(i made the brace recently so not seen i these pics)
11.Fully modded stock forks includes:spring preload adusters(custom made),modded damper rods internals, with bound and rebound adjustments. So now i have total control over the front fork action. This i am most proud of.
12.A custom made rear shock that has bound and rebound adjustments as well as spring preload.(I made this rear shock using 2 shocks from 2 different manufactures)
13.Front slick (soft compound)
14.rear slick (medium compound)
15.x1/x2 triples trees and bar clamps. I decided to go with this setup because with the x1/x2 triples being wider than the stock triples.Allowed me to use rims with wider hubs or use bigger brake calipers and rotors. The bar clamp from the x1/x2’s seem to clamp better than the stocker.Plus the moved the bars foreward about an 1/2in.They also allow the bars to be moved out or closer in.So you can really make the bike more comfortable to your liking.
OH almost forgot.16. modded x7 foot peg brackets.
17.x7 fairings.
18.Slight chassis mods.
19.steering dampener.
20.Vapor trail tech digital speedo/rpm gauge/temp guage.
