So we moved this weekend into a house that my wife and I have been fixing up for the greater part of a year now. My daughter has never like the house, when we were working on it she hated going over there. now that we live there she likes it better, but she wont sleep in her room, in fact she wont stay in any room with out one of us. the past two nights i have been getting in her bed with her until she falls asleep. When she wakes up in the morning she wont get out of bed, she just sits up and crys. I don’t want her to get into a habit of not being able to sleep in her bed alone or expecting to be able to come in our bed every morning. how should I go about his?

I learned of a website that gives reviews and I thought that I would rather be informed than sorry. My wife is expecting in January and I have a lot to learn. I want to know which is the best car seat?

Tell me what you think. Which is the best and which is the worst?

My son is 5 yrs old. I potty trained him when he was 2 but he had troubles during the night up till a few months ago. I finally got him to quit wetting himself. Now just a couple weeks ago he has started getting up in the middle of the night walking a couple feet and then whips it out and pee’s where ever he is. When I try to tell him no he will stop but he doesnt seem to really register what I am saying. I have led him to the bathroom helped him out and he finishes in there and I help him back to bed. The other night though when this happened I led him to the potty after him not reggistering me telling him to go there and I left him in front of the toilet while i went to clean the mess up and put the sheets in the wash. After starting the washer he was still in the bathroom so I went to check on him and he was wondering around in circles in my tiny little bathroom and didn’t seem to know how to get out. I am sure this is some sort of sleep walking but why is he doing it? Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue? will he grow out of it? Should I take him to the Doctor?

Hey everyone 1st post!!!!

So I was talking to an old college buddy the other day about the past and what we wanted to do, to become, and our current lives in general.

When I was in my early twenties and right out of college I wanted to be an Architect (my major) and design buildings where nature was part of the structure. Well I couldn’t find much work in that and after getting married and having a child I put their well-being ahead of my personal goals. So for about the last 25 years I have been a real estate agent. I don’t hate it but I definitely don’t love it as nearly as I do architecture.

Now don’t get me wrong I am very happy with my wife and kids but my goals and expectations have changed throughout life as they generally do with everyone at different stages. I think all boys want to be Astronauts when they are young :-).

So my question is this: when you were in your early/mid-twenties is this where you thought you would be: Job, Family, Money, Life, etc….? If not what was it and are you happy? Oh also please include your age, I’m 50.

Thanks.

a death to your kids. the basics: their granpa has been in and out of the hospital since july. he was sent home late last week to be more comfortable. the family expects it to SOON.

Dh and i weren’t raised to believe one way or the other about god and religion so we don’t really have an idea how to handle this. especially when we ride the fence ourselves…..i think since they do use the methodist daycare that going the way of "heaven" and being "up there watching over them" is going to be the best thing right now. but still how???????????????????? i don’t think we’ll do a very convincing job of things…..

this on top of all the other worries we’ve had……………

How have you dealt with this sort of thing….

A friend of mine was off to another town and I looked after her little boy, Peter whose 4 yrs. old. We were strolling along the park and he was discussing about this old man his mom and him are visiting. He told me that he feels sorry for this old man cause he really liked him and would listen to Peter talk about a lot of stuff. I asked ….Honey, why do you feels sorry for the old man? Is he’s sick? ( Thinking that the old man had probably something contagious ) And out right, the boy replied, NO. He’s dead. That’s why I feel sorry for him. ( I could have probably corrected him in saying it’s sadness that you feel ) I tried to control my laugh not that I don’t feel sorry for the old man but because of the way Peter replied to my question and he was so serious when he said that. Had anybody ever experienced funny situations like these?

Ok, so I am as guilty as the normal parent today of not letting my 11 and 8 year old play outside by themselves, let alone take public transportation alone. Granted I live in NYC and I use that excuse to justify this but I was wondering if you had read this article: Why FreeRange? « FreeRangeKids

What do you parents think about the idea of letting your kids (let’s say ages 8-12) out of your sight? Crime is down in New York but parents rarely let their kids play outside alone anymore…do you think this makes sense?

Do you think that we just know too much nowadays or do you think it is actually better that children are more supervised than they were in the past?

Personally I think I am more afraid of other parents calling social services on me than I am off kidnappers but I still have tended to keep a close eye on my kiddos…
