To understand what it is a CRM tool can do for you in the management of your business, it is important to first understand what a CRM is. A CRM (customer relationship management) tool is a tool that helps a business intelligently find, service, sell to, and market to. In other words, it helps a business manage its relationships with their customers.

Why should your business use a CRM? Your business should use a CRM tool in that will promote:

• Better customer service - Your customers will feel the strong support that your business is giving them and give them confidence that your products and services are filled with professional enthusiasm because of the professional manner in which they are serviced. Having a CRM in place also keeps a record of their past inquiries, allowing you and your employees to understand what their expectations are. Because a CRM provides you with an up-to-date customer database, no more being lost in a customer’s demands.

• Increased work capacity – A CRM tool enhances the processes that are used in managing your customer relationships. Employees will not be exposed to inefficient or customer-related management tasks regarding customers. Data is readily available in an orderly manner; therefore employees are able to work more efficiently and may enjoy it more. Everyone who has access to the system has access to the most recent information regarding customers, which means the focus is placed on high customer service for customers.

• Company success – Good customer relationships can make a business even more profitable. When customers are satisfied, they are going to tell someone else about your business. Pretty soon, that someone else is satisfied and they tell someone else. In the meantime, these same people spreading the word are repeat customers. Also, by making work more efficient, employee turnover is less likely since hiring and training new employees is an expensive task.

By being able to effectively manage your client’s invoices, client quotes, appointment scheduling, e-mail marketing and so much more, productivity is increased exponentially. Existing customers will notice a difference in the way you do business in that a CRM tool allows for consistence in information when asking multiple employees the same question. New customers will walk away thinking, “Wow, they did a really great job. I am going to have to tell ’so and so’ about this.” In the end, your business will be more profitable than it was without a CRM tool.

Talent identification and management is very important for a business in identifying the talent within their business, retaining that talent, and putting that talent to good use. It is important for a business to have a system in place for many different reasons. For one, recognizing that talent will make the employee feel appreciated; therefore that appreciation may retain the employee within the company. No reward is better than letting an employee know they are valuable and that their unique contributions to the company have been recognized.

However, recognizing these special employees for their contributions must take place after ‘identification’ is accomplished. Identification is the primary step in managing a business’s in-house talent pool. Having a system in place to keep track of the individual performance of employees can make the identification process a lot easier. It makes it easier than walking rounds around the workplace all day looking for those who are unique within the business. A simple walk through makes identification almost impossible and too many companies rely on such a method.

What must be done to cultivate that talent?
All leaders within the company must be involved in the talent management process in that they can present ideas regarding how to develop the talent pool within the company. The process starts from the top and works its way down, so a mutual understanding and teamwork is key in identifying and managing that talent. Creating a system in which each leader reports their findings, such as a computer database, can keep everyone on the same page regarding the performance of each individual.

As for the management aspect, once the talent is identified it is good to divide each level of talent up into groups such as employees, lower management, middle management, upper management, those with high potential, and list the other positions within your company. Each employee is already in a category from the start, but at this point place them within the category in which their potential fits from the performance numbers and observations of company leaders. From there, manage this by placing employees within the positions that matches their potential as the positions need filling.

Effective talent identification and management can make an employee feel wanted and place them where they really belong in the company as those positions need filled. This can result in less turnover, more satisfied employees, better work efficiency, and increased profitability because important positions are filled with the right talent.

Engineers are one of the ingredients that form the foundation for any profitable business is sales. The art of selling has been studied for decades and it is always in a state of change. Yesterday’s selling solutions have been redefined and renamed and the word “sales” has been replaced with other marketing phrases that are less invasive and threatening to potential clients. The new business models that are reshaping the way business is conducted in the world market know that selling, especially selling solutions still plays a major part in bottom line returns, but they have made a conscious effort to raise the bar, as far as what the selling process entails.

Salesman through the years gained the reputation for being fast talking, free thinking and good natured front men who had the gift of grab and the ability to get buyers to say yes, in one way or another. Closing a sale usually meant spending time and money on dinners, perks and personal buyer pleasures that had nothing to do with what was being sold or how it would be used. As that selling process became a liability rather than an asset, companies began to restructure the salesman into a completely different person.

Today’s global businesses require that salesman be engineers. Webster defines an engineer as a skillful or cleaver manager or a person who can plan, construct and supervise a project. Professional engineers perform all of those skills in their daily routine and are constantly selling solutions to modern business challenges. They have credibility because like any professional they have invested time, money and a part of themselves in order to expand their abilities. The word engineer denotes responsibility, leadership and integrity and those are the qualities that every business needs to be profitable.

Every business has competition and one of the most important aspects of any successful business is to engineer a strategy that keeps the competition a step behind and that takes planning and managing skills. The salesman of today must be an engineer of selling in Webster’s sense of the word. That requires education, on the job training and more education. The new sales engineer must be able to provide solutions to business challenges and be a part of that solution by engineering a cohesive strategy, which includes all the mental tools that a professional engineer would use in order to construct a building or build a bridge. Every business needs selling engineers, as well as other engineers who perform the internal duties that keep a business profitable.

In the business world, as well as in personal life everyone is always engineering something. Business has identified that ability and is using it to develop new sales strategies that require salesman to be engineers that sell solutions to everyday challenges. Businesses are attracting and training their own professional engineers so they can use their management talents to represent them. Credibility and responsibility along with commitment are the buzz words that define any new selling solution strategy. In order for those buzz words to be effective, an engineer must take the place of a salesman. An engineer understands that the new order of business is using more than a smile and a credit card to get an order; now it’s all about smiling because the order has been awarded to the most qualified engineer.

How to be an Effective Team Leader

Being an effective team leader is important in keeping up morale while also getting the job done in the most efficient way possible. Unfortunately, sometimes being an effective team leader doesn’t mean acting like everyone’s best friend, but letting them know that you are doing all you can to help them develop their skills for their own benefit and the benefit of the company will help them to realize this.

In being an effective team leader, there are certain tasks that must be done when managing your team:

Be a coach, not a demonstrator – You want to provide supportive directions rather than demonstrate a task. You don’t want to make the mistake of telling them you will show them how to do something because this tells the employee that the motivation is in getting the job done rather than promoting their learning. This can be damaging to the employee’s development and can create a dependence on you. Before you know it, that dependence results in the employee relying on you do to everything for them.

Constructive criticism – This is very important because it involves communicating both the bad things and the good things. Criticism is important but can become a little too much for the employee if that is all they are hearing. That is why it is important to highlight the good things as well. Using the, “you need to improve on this, but you do this really well” model can cushion the blow of being told they are not being proficient in a certain task. However, not leaving the employee in the dark and making suggestions as to how the employee can improve will enhance their development. A great way to make suggestions is to share your own experiences with development.

You must be positive – Being positive is very important because it is very contagious. If you are excited, the employees are more likely to be excited as well. If they seem to be in a slump, then that’s your incentive to find out what is wrong and put a plan in place to make it better.

Doing these things in addition to other things such as valuing your employee’s ideas can make you an excellent team leader and make your employees like and respect you. You won’t necessarily always tell them what they want to hear, but going about things the right way means you are making an impact on their careers and their lives.
