The play-date is MOVED from this Friday

to next TUESDAY January 31st from 10:30am-12pm.
$4.50 per child

Arcadia is a gym where the kids will have the chance to play on the mats and RUN around for a little while. We'll have the place to ourselves! Coaches will help manage the kids as well. No gymnastics experience required. Wear comfy clothes and socks.

Jada's Video

Jen is one of the moms in our MOPS family. Her oldest daughter is 6-year-old Jada. Last summer Jada was diagnosed with bone cancer that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs. She is currently cancer free but still has several chemo treatments to go, continued heeling of the amputation, and confronting basic mobility now as an amputee. A prosthetic is in her future but for now she gets around with a walker, quite well and quite speedily. She can often be found jumping on her parent's bed practicing for a trampoline that will soon be in her back yard.

Jada's Aunt Hannah made this video of Jada and Jen describing this journey.

This video was shown at yesterday's MOPS meeting... with a surprise LIVE appearance by Jada!

YOU are invited even if this is your first meeting with us or if you've never been to one of our meetings.
Come hungry! (don't forget food if you signed up to bring something for our regular meeting or the Moppets brunch)
Last chance to enter a ticket in the gift card drawings! If at anytime since September you've brought food, greeted at the door, or helped in the kitchen - you get to enter 1 ticket. If you babysat at a Steering meeting - you get 2 tickets and you get entered in the Steering Babysitter Only gift basket drawing. Ask a Steering member if you're not sure what to do. Drawings will be held at this meeting!
Bring your Secret Sister gift. Keep it with you and don't tell anyone who you have! We'll do the exchanging at a designated time. (Please attend this meeting even if you're not participating in the Secret Sister. Not everyone participates.)
Moppets Brunch, to thank the volunteers who so graciously watch our children during MOPS meetings, immediately following. Can you stay after our regular meeting and help with the brunch? We need help with room set-up, food serving, clean-up and babysitting. Anything you can do is wonderful!

Operation Christmas Child

We will be taking part in

Operation Christmas Child

at our next meeting, November 9th

Operation Christmas Child is a Christian gift distribution run though Samaritan's Purse. Each year at around Christmastime people all over the world fill shoe boxes with things that children need and enjoy. These boxes are sent to children who have very little. The children who will receive our boxes will no doubt open them with great delight and excitement!

Each DGL group will put at least one box together. If you would like to be a part of this, please choose one or more items listed below. There are boxes for boys and for girls so you can buy gender appropriate items. There are also age groups for each box - ages 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. We will also be collecting the required $7 shipping fee for each box. Bring your item(s) and/or cash to the November 9th meeting. For more information, contact your DGL or if your don't know who your DGL is, contact sbjensen20(at)gmail(dot)com.

GIFT IDEAS

TOYS small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch®, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky®, etc.

Mmmm Monday: Cream of Pumpkin Soup

2 cups chopped onion
4 tablespoons butter, melted
4 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
2 (15 ounce) cans pumpkin puree
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cups heavy whipping cream
cinnamon croutons, optional

1. Saute onion in butter in a medium in a medium saucepan until tender. Add 2 cans chicken broth; stir well. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes.

2. Transfer broth mixture into the container of a blender or processor. Process until smooth.

3. Return mixture to saucepan. Add remaining 2 cans of broth, pumpkin, salt, ground cinnamon. ground ginger, ground black pepper; stir well. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce, heat, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Stir in whipping cream and heat through. Do not boil. Ladle into individual soup bowls. Serve with cinnamon croutons, optional.

Women's Event / Fundraiser for Jada Reichart

Jada Reichart, 5-year-old daughter of MOPS Mom Jen Reichart, is battling bone cancer. Click here to follow her story. Pine Valley Bible Camp is run by Jada's grandparents, Matt and Susan Reichart. Susan is one of our MOPS Mentors. In addition to Jada's mom and grandmother, her Aunt Hannah and Aunt Caleh also attend our MOPS.

Mmmm Monday: Pumpkin Cookies

2 cups butter

2 cups sugar

1 large can pumpkin

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp salt

2 tsp baking powder

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp cinnamon

4 cups flour

Mix dry ingredients and set aside. Cream butter and sugar. Mix in pumpkin and then dry ingredients a little at a time. Drop cookies onto tray by tablespoon or medium Pampered Chef scoop) and bake 350 for 15-20 minutes.

Frosting: Mix 1/2 cup milk, 6 tsp butter, and 1 cup brown sugar, and boil for 3 minutes. Let mix cool then mix in 1 tsp vanilla and 2 cups powdered sugar. Drizzle onto cookies and let set.

What You Need::
4 large Granny Smith apples (about 2lbs), peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 c. packed brown sugar, divided: 1/4 c. and 1/4c.
2 tsp. ground cinnamon, divided: 1 tsp. and 1 tsp.
1/3 c. old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats
1/4 c. cold margarine OR 1/2 stick butter
25 vanilla wafers, crushed (about 1 c.)
1 to 1.5 c. thawed whipped cream

What You Do::
Preheat oven to 350 F.

Mix apples, 1/4 c. brown sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon. Pour mixture into 8"-9" baking dish.

Combine oats, 1/4 c. brown sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon into medium bowl. Cut in margarine until mixture resembled coarse crumbs.

Stir in wafer crumbs; sprinkle oat/wafer mixture over apples.

Bake 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender.

Serve with whipped cream.

Mmmm Good Monday: Spinach Mandarin Salad

served at the October 12 meeting

Salad:

2 10-ounce bags fresh spinach
1 can Mandarin Oranges
6 Slices of cooked bacon, crumbled
6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and chopped

Dressing:
1 cup oil
½ cup sugar
½ cup ketchup
¼ tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 medium grated onion (or onion powder)

Wash and clean spinach. The morning before our MOPS meeting, put spinach and oranges in a bowl and add bacon. Sprinkle ½ of dressing over all. DO NOT TOSS. Before serving, add eggs and remainder of dressing. Toss lightly and serve.
