An Accutower LightScribe duplicator looks and functions just like a standard Accutower, but with one important difference: it can record LightScribe images directly onto compatible discs! How cool is that?!

Here’s how it works: the Accutower LS comes with a disc that contains the LightScribe design software. Once you load the software on your computer, you can design your own artwork and save it as a LightScribe image file. This file can be stored on the Accutower LS as an image.

With the image of your artwork stored on the tower, you can simply insert your blank LightScribe CD-R or LightScribe DVD+R discs in the tower with the printable side down. The drives will print your artwork directly on the discs! Print times will vary depending on the level of detail in your artwork.

With LightScribe, you can record text and monochromatic images on your CD and DVD discs from the same machine used for burning data! Best of all, LightScribe uses a laser to produce the images which means you will never have to buy ink or ribbons again!

The Accutower LightScribe DVD/CD duplicator is available with your choice of 3, 5, 7, or 11 recording drives for maximum productivity. A 10-drive Xtreme tower and a 1-to-1 LightScribe duplicator are also available. Each tower comes in a sleek black case that fits nicely on a desk or countertop. Making copies is easy thanks to the intuitive 4-button controller with backlit LCD display.

If you’re looking to streamline your duplication, the Accutower LS duplicator is the answer! This amazing machine can copy both CD and DVD discs as well as print on LightScribe media.

For many years, the task of buying blank CD and DVD media was like living in Alaska: it was a world of extremes. Just like the temperatures in Alaska range from very comfortable to below freezing, the same is true for media prices. Shoppers could either pay a high price for the best media available, or take their chances on dirt cheap discs and deal with the consequences. Fortunately, USDM has introduced a new line of media that hits the sweet spot of both price and performance.

The USDM “Super” line of media includes blank CD and blank DVD discs with a variety of different surfaces. Discs with the “Super” label provide reliable burns at a good value. It’s more affordable than our Supreme media (which features a unique Smudge Guard coating) and offers more printable surfaces than our Value media. USDM Super is the perfect middle-of-the-road, no compromise line of media.

USDM Super CD discs are available as a shiny silver top CD, a white inkjet hub printable CD, and as a white thermal hub printable CD. They feature a maximum recording speed of 52X and are compatible with home computers, DVD/CD duplicator towers, and Pro Audio equipment.

USDM Super discs will hold up to 80 minutes of audio or music and up to 700MB of data. With prices as low as 29 cents per disc (100 pack of M40117 Super Blue CD-R), the USDM Super CDs are just too good of a deal to pass up.

Now before you head off to check those out, I’d like to spend a little time on the USDM Super DVD media. Like their CD counterparts, these DVD discs are an excellent value for the price. USDM Super DVDs are available as a silver top DVD, white inkjet hub printable DVD, and as a white thermal hub printable DVD. They feature a 16X max recording speed and a data storage capacity of 4.7 GB, or approximately 2 hours of video.

When it comes to blank media, shoppers no longer have to choose between two extremes. The Super line of blank CD and blank DVD media from USDM is the new middle ground, and it is a great value any way you look at it! USDM Super media is available now in the USDM Media Store at CDROM2GO.

Today, hundreds of reporters and journalists will be walking the floor of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles at the second Blu-ray Convention: Blu-Con 2.0.

It is here that industry giants such as Panasonic and Sony will feature their latest innovations for the world to see. Major movie studios including Lions Gate, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, and Universal will also be present.

The Blu-Con 2.0 event is put on by the Digital Entertainment Group, which is a trade association of hardware and software manufacturers. This conference helps both parties maintain a close working relationship and helps promote the use of the Blu-ray format in markets around the world.

Blu-Con 2.0 features a variety of presentations and speeches related to the Blu-ray format. The star of the show is legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese who will be speaking about how Blu-ray impacts the movie experience. Other keynote speakers include Jessica Reif-Cohen of Merrill Lynch and Mike Vitelli of Best Buy.

Additionally, the schedule includes presentations about consumer adoption rates, portability, gaming, and more. A talk on the future of Blu-ray including 3D movies is also on the agenda. What this tells me is that as a next-gen media storage format, Blu-ray is definitely here to stay.

While the Blu-ray Convention is geared towards industry specialists, CDROM2GO puts Blu-ray technology in the hands of consumers. Their online storefront is an excellent source for Blu-ray duplicators such as the Accutower Blu plus blank Blu-ray media and printable Blu-ray media.

As Blu-ray continues to gain market share with consumers, the demand for Blu-ray services will also increase. Fortunately, CDROM2GO has got you covered there, too. Their Blu-ray duplication service is ready to produce quality Blu-ray discs for you in any quantity you need!

If you were in Los Angeles for the Blu-ray Convention, please post a comment and tell me about it!

Now, Macintosh users are also hearing good news from the Minnesota-based manufacturer of CD/DVD printers. Primera has just released two major software updates for Mac users: PTPublisher and the PTBurn SDK!

PTPublisher™ is an all-in-one program that handles both burning and printing. You can use it to design your artwork and print directly on a disc with your Bravo CD/DVD printer. The interface is easy to use for both beginners and power users.

The other neat thing about PTPublisher™ is that it can also be used to create new CD and DVD projects from scratch. Whether you’re recording audio, video, or data, PTPublisher™ makes it easy to get your information burned on to your discs quickly and accurately. Jump over to the Primera website to get your FREE PTPublisher download today!

The new PTBurn Software Development Kit (SDK) is also available for Macintosh users. With this kit, advanced users can set up custom actions and interfaces for their Bravo machines. Best of all, the SDK is available to developers who register with Primera at no charge!

Both programs are compatible with the latest release of OS X v10.6 “Snow Leopard.” Primera have also posted updated Bravo Mac drivers for download in the Support section of their website.

With the introduction of these new software programs, Primera demonstrates its commitment to Mac users and to the development community. The announcement of a new 12X Blu-ray recorder is just one more jaw-dropping example of Pioneer’s commitment to innovation.

CDRInfo is reporting that the new burner, known as the BDR-205, will write to single-layer and dual-layer Blu-ray discs at a maximum speed of 12X. Let’s pause for a moment to break down this tremendous achievement for what it is.

Bear in mind that a measurement of “X” or “times” is the minimum amount of bandwidth needed to record information on to an optical disc. It is also important to mention that speed ratings for recording drives do not use the same scale.

For example, a 1X CD burner records approximately 0.15 megabytes of information per second. Most CD burners these days (including the ones in our Accutower CD duplicators ) record at 52X, or 7.99 megabytes per second. These ratings differ from DVD burners, which use an entirely different baseline for its rating of “1X.”

A 1X DVD burner records information at 1.35 megabytes per second. A typical DVD burner, like the ones in our Accutower DVD duplicators, can record at 18X, or 24.3 megabytes per second. This is much faster than a CD burner, but it still seems like a tortoise compared to a Blu-ray drive.

A 1X Blu-ray drive will record information at 4.5 megabytes per second. You’d be hard pressed to find a 1X Blu-ray drive today, because they have been replaced by faster and newer models. Currently, the fastest Blu-ray recorders (including the ones in the Accutower Blu-ray duplicator towers) are rated at 6X, or 27 megabytes per second. Wow!

27 MB/s per second is very, very fast for an optical disc being recorded by a laser pickup. And now we have this announcement that Pioneer has launched its first 12X Blu-ray burner overseas! That’s twice as fast as drives are right now. Just let that sink in for a minute.

With a 12X recording speed, the BRD-205 will be pulsing its laser at an astonishing 54 megabytes per second. That’s more laser action than the first Star Wars trilogy! At these tremendous speeds, this drive would cut the time it takes to record a full 25GB Blu-ray disc down to just eight minutes. But of course, we would expect no less from Pioneer.

This new Pioneer Blu-ray burner is not available in North America yet, but it is scheduled for a US release in early 2010. Maybe there will be a new 12X version of the Accutower Blu to follow! I’ll keep you posted.

As users begin the process of upgrading their computers or purchasing new machines over the next few years, they may be concerned about compatibility issues with their existing hardware. Well I’m glad to report that if you own a Primera Bravo CD/DVD printer or publisher, your can lay your worries to rest.

That’s because Primera announced yesterday that its entire line of currently-available CD and DVD printers and publishers are compatible with the new Windows 7 operating system. This includes the Bravo SE, Bravo II, Bravo Pro, Bravo XR, and Bravo XRP family of products.

The updated drivers now cover Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. If you already own a Bravo unit and have upgraded or are planning to upgrade to Windows 7, you’re in luck because Primera has just posted the newest drivers for download on their website. There’s even a new illustrated guide to installing the drivers for Windows 7, complete with screenshots. New units will begin shipping with the updated drivers starting October 22nd.

The Primera website also contains drivers for Apple computers, which are available in the universal binary format. These drivers are listed to be compatible with Mac OS 10.6 “Snow Leopard,” which was released about two months ago.

As if that weren’t enough, all Primera Bravo units purchased before the end of the year will receive a VISA gift card for up to $750 dollars with mail-in rebate. More details on the Primera rebate can be found in this previous post.

Whichever computer platform you use, you can rest assured that you will enjoy the full use of your Primera hardware well into the future.

The Fall of 2009 is an exciting time for computer users around the world. Both Microsoft and Apple are in the spotlight once again as they debut their latest and greatest operating systems. From Apple we have OS X version 10.6, known as “Snow Leopard” which was released on August 28th. From Microsoft we have Windows 7, which is due out later this month.

Each of these highly advanced operating systems promises to provide users with greater security, communications, and entertainment than ever before. However, both operating systems do not include native, out-of-the-box support for Blu-ray playback. I think this is a huge mistake for the computer industry and for consumers.

Of course, this does not mean that Windows 7 and OS X cannot handle Blu-ray media at all; they certainly can. What it means is that to enjoy Blu-ray movies on your home computer, you must purchase and install a third-party program. CyberLink’s PowerDVD and Intervideo’s WinDVD are two of the most popular choices for PC users, while Toast is your best bet for enjoying Blu-ray on your Mac.

PC manufacturers such as Dell and HP will also step in to provide support for Blu-ray playback on newly purchased machines, and drive manufacturers such as Sony and Lite-On often bundle the appropriate software with a burner drive when purchased from the store. But you’ve still got to pay if you want Blu-ray.

So why would two of the biggest software companies intentionally leave Blu-ray compatibility in the hands of third-party developers? It is an issue of cost. The developer of a Blu-ray playback device (whether it is a software program or a set-top box) is required to pay royalties to the Blu-ray Disc Association for each device they produce. This would increase the retail cost of both Windows 7 and OS X 10.6.

This leaves consumers like myself feeling shortchanged. Blu-ray is the high-definition video format of today, and it is here to stay. By not supporting it, Apple and Microsoft are doing nothing but shooting themselves in the foot.

The funny thing is, there are plenty of options for creating your own Blu-ray content. Blu-ray duplicator towers and Blu-ray disc publishers are more affordable than ever before. With a good video camera and special video editing software, you can create your own high-definition masterpieces in high volumes with no trouble at all.

When it comes down to affordable Blu-ray playback though, you might as well get a PlayStation 3 for $299. Hey, you could always play some cool games on it if nothing else!

Take care and thanks for reading!

The USDM Store is the home of the Accutower, which has been the most reliable DVD/CD duplicator in the industry for the past ten years. Accutower duplication towers are available in beige or black and in all different sizes. The Accutower Blu brings Blu-ray recording into a convenient, stand-alone form factor while the Accutower Flash USB duplicator is the best machine for copying flash drives in high volumes.

Creating copies of your data is easy, but what do you do when it’s time to get rid of your information? Shred it! The USDM Store features our line of disc shredders that will safely and permanently destroy any information stored on a CD or DVD. The USDM CD/DVD shredders work by breaking the disc into thousands of pieces, which destroys the organic dye layer that contains the stored information. This is a great solution for disposing of confidential information and preventing identity theft.

Finally, the USDM Equipment Store features useful products for the do-it-yourself duplication environment. These include a CD/DVD shrink wrap machine for wrapping your own disc cases, and a cleaning kit for the TEAC P-55 printer. We also offer a rugged Metal CD/DVD Spindle for storing up to 200 CD or DVD discs and a Spindle Cart for moving spindles of discs with ease.
