Only one quarter of the Colorado Rockies baseball season has been played at the present time and anxious fans have thrown in the proverbial towel before Memorial Day. Tis a sad day ’round here for baseball fans when it appears that the ownership sees fans in the stands as dollar signs and their players on the field as geese laying golden eggs. Fans come out in droves regardless of the product on the field because of the social event aspect of the game and Coloradoans typically like being outdoors. The plane has crashed into the mountain and pitching ace Jorge De La Rosa’s rehabilitation needs a nudge because the organization appears to be lifeless and stagnant at the present time. I’m pretty sure this isn’t what CARGO and TULO had in mind at the beginning of the season. The whole team swings for the fences and aren’t aware of the concept of clutch hitting. The pitching staff would probably be best served by relieving pitching coach Bob Apodaca of his duties as a member of the organization. How many more days till Denver Broncos’ training camp?

It’s been a little while since we had any ATDI, Sparta or ANYWHERE news here at C=T. Last time we heard from Cedric Bixler-Zavala and his new acts, ANYWHERE, all we had was the Record Store Day news, new shizz has transpired and a full length will be released July 24 via ATP recordings.

Jim Ward wasn’t messing around when he said that he was bringing the band back together. Sparta is back with their first taste off of their new album with the single, “Chemical Feel.” Catch them at the Neon Desert Music Festival in El Paso this weekend.

I had the pleasure of visiting the motherland on my honeymoon five years ago. Barcelona, ES is a living and breathing art installation which is where the duo ,Pegasvs, hail from with the two primary members, Sergio Pérez García and Luciana della Villa. Their pounding beats and hazy vocals from Luciana could serve well on a sequel to “Drive” and a definite favorite for fans of the Chromatics. The self/titled debut saw the light of day this past March via the Canada label and currently on tour with Chilena, Javiera Mena.

Hamilton Leithauser is still crooning away in the latest album from the Walkmen, “Heaven,” set to be released May 29 via Fat Possum. The amount of output from one of the most durable acts in music comes in the form of seven albums in ten years. That’s almost on par with Frank Zappa or pretty damn close. The Walkmen become more refined with every album and like a good bottle of aged wine, the body of this album definitely has legs. Stream the new album via NPR over here. Look for the Walkmen to play with Florence + the Machine at Red Rocks come this July!

It really feels like disco has died. The tragic news of Donna Summers last week coupled with the latest passing of Robin Gibb has solidified the final straw that disco is dead. Many people are quick to pass judgement on a genre of music that blended dance, soul and a lifestyle that many tried to emulate during a time that was filled with unemployment, war and wait a minute, doesn’t seem like much as changed in the last couple of decades. SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER FOR LIFE!

Mick Jagger breathed some new life into SNL as the season finale’s host. The iconic Rolling Stones’ frontman brought the Foo and Arcade Fire to serve as his backing bands. I’ve been getting into the Stones over the last couple of years, dismissing them for the Beatles and the Kinks. The last couple of tours that the Stones played I felt that they were just doing it for the money. And rightfully so, however, watching Jagger do his thing last night has me mesmerized with how youthful he appears.

Beach House are pushing their latest album “Bloom” and I’ve said it before, but listening to a new Beach House album with the weather being so warm is too damn weird. The album feels like a beginning of the school year type of album.

It’s around this same time every year that I look at the movie calendar with Memorial Day coming up in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the summer blockbuster of yesteryear was plentiful. However, due to a creative outage in Hollywood, we’re stuck with getting movie reboots and/or movie spinoffs of boardgames I use to play when I was a kid. “Battleship?” Seriously? As much eye candy as Rihanna provides, I’m not sure I could even waste $1.29 at the Redbox to see how bad that movie is waiting to suck. It’s quite possible that the movie may tread along the waters of a steaming cauldron of dog feces. I can almost guarantee that it will probably rake in the dough at the box office and a sequel will probably be in the works. The only other bright spot this summer will see will be the last Nolan “Batman” movie. I’m a little nervous about having Anne Hathaway playing Catwoman because her potential could be as bad as Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance. Wonder if Angelina Jolie was too busy?
