It’s funny how a single moment can change your life forever. For me, that moment was a few weeks after I turned 40, when I was driving home from dinner at a friend’s house. I was at a stoplight when I was suddenly rear-ended by a man who was experiencing some sort of diabetic episode and hadn’t recognized that the traffic in front of him was stopped. He slammed into the back of my car going approximately 40 mph.

At first, I didn’t think I was hurt, and I was even able to drive home from the scene (my car sustained $8500 in damages, but somehow was still drivable). But as the normal aches and pains of whiplash subsided in the days that followed, pain in my lower back began to increase. It was eventually determined that I had torn one, if not two, lower lumbar dics, which meant that the discs were not only inflamed and bulging, but also leaking fluid that felt like battery acid on my spine. And structurally, my alignment was thrown off, causing more inflammation and pain in my right sacral iliac joint and hip.

I underwent four separate epidural injections and months of physical therapy, but the pain was persistent. Activities of daily living became extremely difficult for me, and instead of trying to move more, I responded by moving less and less and less (which I now know is the exact wrong thing to do for back pain). And I had to begin cutting back my hours at work until eventually I had to quit my job altogether. For the next few years, I grew weaker and weaker, life with chronic pain became my new normal, and I became mentally and emotionally depressed and exhausted.

And then one day I woke up and decided that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I knew I had to do something, but I hadn’t exercised since my mid 20’s and had no idea what to do or where to start. So I simply began walking on my treadmill. In those early days, I was lucky to walk for 15 minutes at a very slow pace before experiencing total exhaustion. But I kept at it every day, slowing increasing my time and pace and slowly feeling stronger and stronger.

After about a year of walking, I knew I needed to progress to something more, but I knew I couldn’t withstand any pounding movements (running or jumping) on my spine. So I began searching for “low impact” video workouts online, and that’s when I stumbled upon Cathe Friedrich.

I ordered one of her Low Impact Series videos – Cardio SuperSets – and couldn’t even get through it the first time I tried. But somehow Cathe made me feel safe, and I liked her, and so I kept trying again and again until it became achievable. And then I bought a few more of her LIS videos and did the same with those. And as I began to see progress and feel myself becoming stronger, I ventured beyond her low impact videos to other series and just kept going. I looked forward every day to my date with Cathe!

And during this time something magical happened – I began to see myself as being stronger, braver and more capable than I thought I was. I really wanted to start pushing myself out of my comfort zone and see what I could do – and each time I found that I could do more than I ever thought I could. This was revelatory mentally and emotionally, as well as physically, and allowed me to finally begin reclaiming my life from years of constant pain — it was like a dark fog lifted! As I continued to progress in my workouts over the next few years, my personality became more pleasant, my self-esteem grew, my marriage got stronger, my life got better. And, of course, I lost weight, reshaped my body, and over time gained a significant amount of strength, power and flexibility.

A single moment that changes your life forever… Well, for me it’s now two moments. The moment of my car accident, and the moment I found Cathe. I’m not sure I would be where I am today without her. She made me feel safe when my world was upside down, she motivated and encouraged me to keep going when I didn’t think I could, she taught me the fundamentals of exercise and proper form and progressions, and she instilled deep within me a passion for the transformative power of fitness. And since we are the same age, she has always made me feel that if she can do it, I can do it! And all that from a lady on my TV screen!

I live a life now that is mostly free of pain. At 50, I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been. I’ve attended several Road Trips to work out with Cathe in person (a true honor and highlight in my life!!) and am constantly encouraged and blessed by all my friends in the Cathlete community. I’ve also obtained certifications in both personal training and fitness/sports nutrition, and I love nothing more than to motivate others to get moving and discover that they, too, are stronger, braver and more capable than they ever thought they could be.

Thank you, Cathe, for being my moment!

Liz Balmer

This is not some great weight loss success story, my story is more about staying fit as I age. I always hated exercise in my younger years, but as I started aging I did not like the direction my body was heading in. I had no energy from lack of exercise and from hypothyroidism. At age 41 I decided it was time to take charge and get myself fit and healthy.

I am so grateful to have found Cathe 8 years ago, not only has she kept me motivated throughout the years with her amazing DVD collection but she inspires me every single day to be able to reach my goals!

I’m turning the dreaded 50 this year, and being hypothyroid there are so many days I don’t feel like working out, but I pop Cathe into my player and am immediately motivated, seeing how energetic and how amazing Cathe and crew look is very inspiring to me! I have much more stamina now than I had in my 20’s, not to mention how much muscle I have gained!

I have become friends with so many amazing Cathletes who are extremely supportive and such an inspiration to me! I hope to get to a road trip soon to meet them all in person!

I own just about every DVD Cathe has put out! From the very early ones to the very latest, they never get old. I am absolutely loving the ICE series right now, this may be my new fav., but I say that about every series she comes out with.

Even though my upcoming birthday is quite intimidating, I know that if I stick with Cathe I will fight the aging process every step of the way! After all age is just a number! Thank you Cathe for being you!!!!!

As I approach my 30th birthday this February my husband recently told me he thinks I look stronger and better than I did when we met 11 years ago. For the first time in my life I could acknowledge to my husband and myself that I agree with him. I could actually say the words, “Thank you” instead of arguing that he was wrong. Thanks to Cathe and her passion I have discovered and maintained true strength, health, and confidence in my life.
A few days before my youngest son’s first birthday I began having constant heartburn, nausea and abdominal pain. I was unable to eat anything without it making me sick. I was living on a liquid diet and was losing weight. After a year of doctors visits and tests that revealed everything was normal I finally went to see a specialist. Within a month they discovered that I had gastroparesis and my stomach was not emptying on its own. I struggled with anorexia through high school and college and my doctor believes this is the cause of the gastroparesis. The solution was medications and a low fat, low fiber diet. I was unable to eat any fresh fruit or vegetables or whole grains. I was used to eating a healthy, balanced diet and found this to be a true challenge. After living for a year with gastroparesis I found myself getting sick frequently and having low energy levels. I was exercising using multiple different at home dvds. My doctor said strengthening my core and walking would help my stomach empty. I was trying my best to control my health through fitness since I could not control it through my diet. Despite my best efforts I was still struggling.
A year after being diagnosed with gastroparesis I faced another challenge. I was furiously cleaning the house two days before Thanksgiving as my parents were coming for the holiday. I started to feel incredibly tired and achy. I developed a fever of nearly 105 degrees and went to the ER. I was diagnoses with Toxic Shock Syndrome and spent three days in the hospital. At that point in my life I was underweight and if I was truly honest with myself, quite depressed.
I continued to get sick and was unable to take care of my two sons. My youngest has a genetic disorder and I was struggling to be able to care for him. As he continued to get older and bigger I knew at some point I wasn’t going to be able to carry him out of the store if he decided he wasn’t going to cooperate that day. I was not strong enough and did not have the endurance. I was also spending more time sick in bed than time making memories with my two boys. I knew I needed a change and that’s when I found Cathe.
I decided to get back into step aerobics since this was something I had enjoyed through high school and college. I ordered a step and it came with Cathe’s basic step and cardio and weights video. I loved working out with Cathe and her crew the first time I tried the video. I remember thinking I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to follow the steps in her cardio and weights dvd, but it looked like so much fun I had to try. I now own most of her step dvds and the dvds with more intricate choreography are my absolute favorites. The time flies by because I am having so much fun with Cathe and her workout crew. Instead of feeling like I have to work out, I find myself wanting to work out because I finally am getting results and enjoy Cathe and her workouts so much. I have recently begun using Cathe’s workout rotation and find myself doing her HIIT, kickboxing, and boot camp dvds and loving those as well. Cathe has a true passion for health and fitness and i t clearly shows.
Because of Cathe and her passion I have regained my strength, emotional health and quality time with my two boys. Her workouts have helped my gastroparesis symptoms immensely. I can now eat some fruits and vegetables and my core is the strongest it has ever been. I don’t struggle with nausea, abdominal pain and heartburn as much since working out helps my stomach empty faster. Because of Cathe I have the physical and emotional health I craved all these years. I can spend quality time with my boys and teach them the importance of good health. I can finally say to my husband “thank you” when he tells me I look strong. I feel satisfied and complete. I truly believe I will be working out with Cathe and only Cathe for the rest of my life. Thanks Cathe for giving me my health, family time and confidence back!

“Phenomenal job! You earned this stretch […]. Grab lots of water, thanks for joining us
today and I will see you next workout!”

For the past six years, my mornings begin with Cathe Friedrich and her stellar fitness crew, which also includes Amanda, Katie, Nancy, Greg, Rob, Denise, Deazie, Stuart, Marc, Marlo, Kate, and Al.

My journey as a Cathelete started September 2009 after several years of doing other workout DVDs at home and later experienced a plateau where I did not feel appropriately challenged anymore. A friend of mine highly recommended Collage Video, a company that reviewed and sold exercise DVDs, but most importantly, I could preview before buying them to avoid any undesirable surprises. As I perused through the advanced category, Cathe’s name appeared and I felt impressed by the great variety of workouts she offered (step, cardio, weights, kickboxing, etc). Although the previews looked formidable, her chiseled physique, charismatic energy, enthusiasm, no nonsense, ‘yes-you-are-really-going-to-do-this’ tough love demeanor and high fitness level of all crew members involved convinced me to try her workouts.

The first DVD I purchased was Kick Max, and boy, did I get KICKED! Even though I had exercised for years, the warm up floored me completely. It was another shock when those famous four words were uttered: “Okay, let’s move on!” Wait, there’s more? I loved the combos, but felt even more annihilated by the blast challenge drills that followed and could not even attempt them. It was official. Kick Max kicked my keester, but I was hooked and felt extremely determined to get in better shape. Afterwards, I ordered more DVDs and the five I used during my first year are: Kick Max, Butts and Guts, Cardio Core Circuit, MMA Boxing, MMA Fusion. After three and a half months, I could do Cathe’s workouts five days a week and felt extremely proud of my progress! Yet little did I know that another test of my determination loomed on the horizon.

In October 2010, I woke up one morning in horrible pain and felt extremely nauseated. On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain ranked as a 13 and it felt as if someone was beating me across the abdomen with a baseball bat nonstop. I was rushed to the hospital and after a battery of tests, the dilemma stemmed from a blockage in my biliary tree that also involved the gallbladder due to a faulty duct at birth and two intestinal operations as an infant. After surgery and a long recovery, I began to slowly exercise again by January 2011, but felt extremely frustrated since my core was still healing and I could not jump.

One day, I noticed a reference to Cathe dot com on the DVD packaging and decided to look through the site. Just then, the Low Impact Series was for sale and the perfect solution to assist me in getting back into shape. Therefore, Athletic Training, Afterburn, Slide and Glide became my favorites.

As I became stronger that year, Lower Body Blast, Drill Max, Low Impact Circuit, 4 Day Split, Intensity, Athletic Step and Hiit joined my collection as I began Cathe’s step workouts, which were a real adjustment since I was a complete novice to step aerobics. “V step, Repeater,
figure eight here […]. Sculpt seven, sculpt three, get down there. Straddle, let’s take this around the world again, you got it now! Now for combo three, jump on the step, jump off the side, and jump on again. A step here twice. Now a basic for three […]. You’re putting that left foot on,
now that right foot on. You look great! Now for our blast challenge […]. ”

After a while, I could step cha-cha, do hip-hop repeaters, knee-side repeaters with straddles, hitch kicks, starbursts, uneven lunges, plyo box jumps, straddle jacks and swim lunges like a pro. By summer 2011, I had acquired the stamina to do Cathe’s workouts six days per week, joined a local gym and began to weight train five days a week. This pattern continued for the next several years as other DVDs became a part of my life such as Circuit Blast, Gym Style Legs, Crossfire, To the Max, Ab Circuits and the XTRAIN series.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck during the halfway point of my 90 day XTRAIN rotation. In August 2013, I awoke to more nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting. After a lengthy hospital stay and consultations with specialists, it was determined that the same problem had recurred
three years later, which completely baffled the medical team due to my healthy lifestyle. In order to remediate it, part of an organ was removed as the only viable alternative. Although I sailed through the surgery, I experienced septic shock several days later and was rushed back to the hospital. When I regained consciousness a few days afterwards, the nurses constantly repeated how fortunate I was to even be alive. Due to the severity of the shock, I had a 105 F fever, blood pressure 82/48 and an elevated heart rate of 162 beats per minute upon arrival. As I recovered in the hospital, my medical team often inquired about my exercise and lifestyle habits, and my response was always the same: “I do Cathe Friedrich’s workouts. Go to www.cathe.com and view the clips”. The next morning, my physician visited me and before he left, mentioned that my frequent, intense exercise program with Cathe had saved my life. If I had been sedentary, I certainly would have died at the age of 30!

After my release from the hospital and a lengthy recovery that included PICC line antibiotics and physical therapy sessions, I felt well enough to attempt my DVDs by mid-January 2014. In spite of having to start over twice during the first four years due to severe illness and two surgeries, I refused to allow that to deter me from getting back in shape. I re-started with the Low Impact Series, graduated to Hiit, tried lighter, then heavier weights and modified many exercises when necessary. By late March, I began the monthly rotations, which increased my strength and endurance to the degree that I was able to return to my local gym and begin lifting again. Cardio Supersets, High Reps, High Step Challenge, Total Body Trisets, STS Total Body and eventually X10 became part of my staple workout regime. By the end of May 2014, I was strong enough to regain my six day schedule with Cathe plus weight train five days at the gym, which I felt highly grateful for then and still ascribe to the same plan even now.

This year, I was able to attend the 2015 Glassboro Road Trip and meet Cathe, her crew, staff and make friends with other Catheletes from around the globe. Not only did I have a wonderful time, it was an accomplishment to even attend considering my past medical circumstances. In regards to other milestones this year, I completed a four mile obstacle course race (Rockabilly Riot Challenge), sailed through all twelve obstacles the first time through and ran it – when I do not run at all! During the last twelve months, I also finished four STS rotations (STS and Low Impact Series, STS 3 Month Strength and Cardio, STS-Ripped with Hiit and STS-Gym Style Series). Consequently, I made phenomenal progress in strength, muscle definition, endurance, and can do pull-ups without a problem at all. When Cathe mentions the weight she uses, I’m pleased to say that I can lift the SAME weight or a bit more! Actually, I would absolutely love to audition for and join Cathe’s crew as well.

As a full time Spanish professor for a local college, Cathe’s workouts are an integral part of my morning before heading to work, and time always flies once the DVD plays. Not only have I felt as if I am there in the studio since day one, the variety of workouts and premix options provide a perfect solution for days I am greatly pressed for time and only have 25, 30, 35, or 45 minutes instead of an hour. Additionally, the weekly newsletter, monthly rotations and healthy recipes convey such beneficial information regarding fitness topics, health and frequently asked questions about training and nutrition. During these six years, I have learned the importance of proper form, nutrient timing, progressive overload, periodization, 1 Rep Max, weight training for endurance, hypertrophy, strength, the five percent method, back off sets, working to failure, finisher exercises, maximum muscle recruitment, partial reps, tempo changes and so much more. Cathe, THANK YOU for your intense, no-nonsense workouts that are exceedingly thorough and leave no stone unturned as you push us to reach our maximum potential!

In closing, I write this to encourage others to exercise to the best of their ability as often as possible in spite of life’s many setbacks. Little did I know in 2009 that two major illnesses would occur to drastically alter my life at a young age, and while I have regained full health, my commitment to daily exercise has not diminished. A few of my goals for 2016 are to begin competing in fitness shows and pursue certification as a personal trainer. As a grateful Cathelete, intense physical exercise and conditioning saved my life, so I know it can do the same for everyone that reads this and fully commits to it.

Hello, I am 45-year-old full-time legal assistant. I have suffered from a movement disorder my entire life. It has taken me years to get my symptoms under control. But, with determination and a little (okay A LOT) of help from Cathe, my health issues have not kept me from being in the best shape of my life.

I use Cathe workouts almost daily. I belonged to a gym for while, but decided that the convenience of working out at home along with Cathe’s challenging and always interesting workouts are a better fit for me and the physique I want to maintain.

Almost two years ago, I had bilateral bunion surgery, which left me couch-bound and in a wheelchair for over six weeks. My weight ballooned to 190 pounds (I am 5’8″). I used Cathe workouts religiously

Jeanne’s before Pic

and maintained a good, healthy diet (lots of spinach!) to get my weight down. Last January, I was still at least 160 pounds with about 27% body fat. I knew I could do better than that and am now maintaining 145 pounds or less and am at about 13% body fat.

People can not believe that I am 45-years-old. I am constantly being encouraged to “compete on stage”. Although I am a bit too shy to do that, I love hearing it. It never gets old.

I am very happy with my physique, quality of life, and health, even though my movement disorder creates a constant challenge. A lot of people with my disorder give up on themselves and staying fit. But, with Cathe, I look forward to my early morning workouts and will even squeeze in a post-workday workout when I get home, occasionally.

I thank Cathe for giving us quality, challenging workouts with tons of variety and always being a step ahead, technologically, with things like On Demand and Cathe Live.

My success story is a little different than the typical story. My journey with Cathe began 10 years ago after the birth of my second child. I would record her workouts from Fit TV, onto my VCR and do them while my kids napped. I was immediately and permanently hooked. Working out with Cathe helped get my body into great condition. I felt fantastic, ran marathons for fun, and people often commented on my great arms, or legs.

Fast forward to September of 2014; while lying in bed, I noticed a bump in my lower abdomen. I called my doctor’s office and they suggested an ultrasound. When the tech put the Doppler on me, the “mass” was so large that no one could tell where it was attached because we couldn’t see anything; the mass took up the entire space. After a couple of doctor visits, some blood tests, and CT scan and an MRI I was booked for surgery. According to the information we had, it appeared to be a benign growth which would be removed in surgery; however, should it be malignant we discussed what would happen, organs that would be removed, ect.

On October 27th I went into surgery and had removed a cancerous tumor the size of a football. I was 37 years old with absolutely no risk factors. Six weeks later, I started chemotherapy for treatment of ovarian cancer. I did 12 weeks of chemo. During this time I lost 27 pounds, all of my hair, and the ability to do fine motor skills due to nerve damage in my fingers. I risked irreversible lung damage and kidney damage due to the drugs. Now remember I was at a healthy weight and in great shape when this whole thing started. Needless to say at this point I was sick, tired, weak, and just trying to make it through the day. I couldn’t clean my house, cook dinner for my kids, walk my dog, attend my kids school parties; I was only able to lay on the couch and go to my chemo appointments.

I had my last treatment in March of 2015, and had a great conversation with my oncologist. He said he was impressed that I was able to “fly” through this very intense treatment period without any complications. My body was able to tolerate the drugs, and the side effects amazingly well because of my level of fitness; due mostly to the amount of muscle my body had. I never had to have a treatment delayed, and while I felt terrible, my blood work and exams always came back great (considering I was in the middle of chemo).

If it had not been for my workouts centered around Cathe’s fun, hard, fantastic weight workouts, my body would not have had the muscle it needed to tolerate the drugs, and then rebuild itself when treatment was finished.

I have checkups every 3 months and so far, I’m still cancer free!!! I’m even more determined now to keep my body in top notch condition, not only because I look good and feel strong, but because being healthy allows my body to function more efficiently. I’ve always told my kids to “do hard things” because it’s good for you. Take the hard class in school, push yourself physically, and step outside your comfort zone. If you make the choice to do hard things; when you HAVE to do something hard you’ll know what you’re capable of. I choose to do Cathe’s workouts because their hard and they challenge me, and they show me what I’m capable of; not to mention her workouts are fun, and keep me in great shape. I know that Cathe’s workouts will help me to stay in good health; even as I age…..because I told my kids I plan on living to be 100, staying active the whole time.

My weight gain had been gradual: a few pounds in college, a few more in law school, and then after I got married, until I had my first son and hit an OMG number of 208 lbs. You have an image in your head of what you look like, and for me it took a day at the spa to snap me out of it. I had treated myself to a day of beauty at the spa before my first son’s Christening, and was mortified when I had to return to the desk and ask the receptionist who appeared to weigh 89 lbs. if they had a larger robe, as the one size fits all robe, was lying. I had tried many things over the years to lose weight, but after that life changing moment, this time I meant business! I began working out with home workout videos, and I think my first two Cathe workouts were Power Hour and Ab Hits. Since then my library now includes almost every one of her workouts from the Gym Series to STS to XTrain. I always tell people that her workouts rival a personal trainer. Previously whenever I had tried to exercise, I did only cardio, and now find myself quoting Cathe all the time telling other women, “Don’t be afraid of heavy weights, they do great things for you.” They certainly did nice things for me, as I was able to lose 96 lbs.!

I now regularly train with weights, do cardio and flexibility workouts daily, and really try to eat clean, whole and nutritious foods. I remember once trying on a pair of pants in a dressing room after losing essentially half of my former self, and the salesgirl asked how I was doing. I told her they didn’t fit, and she asked if she could get me another size. Through teary eyes, I called over the door, “no, that this was the smallest size available and it was TOO BIG.”

My fitness journey inspired many of my friends and family to adopt healthier lifestyles themselves, and I take this as the biggest compliment. My workouts with home video workouts, and especially my Cathe workouts got me featured as a success story in Good Housekeeping (where I’m shown surrounded by my Cathe library of DVDs!) I know my journey has encouraged a lot of people, so that I try to live up to it by continuing to make the right choices. My mantra is “you’re no busier than a fit person.” I think having been on both sides of the spectrum gives me an appreciation for the struggles of one trying to lose weight, and the work and effort put into keeping it off! I think everyone has a vision of where they want to be physically and mentally, and getting there can be a complicated road, but having Cathe was like having a personal guide!

I have three children and have used workout DVDs to get in shape after each of them. When I found Cathe’s videos (Fit T.V.!) I was very impressed. She truly is in a class of her own and leads the field in professionalism and putting out the most cutting edge, effective workouts.

I am in the best shape I have even been in, thanks in large part to Cathe’s videos. My favorites when I am short on time are the HIIT workouts and Circuit Blast. On a Saturday morning I love to get my butt kicked with butts and guts or drill max. Muscle Endurance helped me take my strength training to the next level.

Even my kids like to ‘workout’ with me. I’ve challenged my husband to try a Cathe workout with me but he will not because of how challenging they are (he doesn’t want to be upstaged!).
Exercising consistently has helped me to control my stress levels resulting from motherhood in general and my oldest child with special needs. It is critical in helping me keep an upbeat and positive outlook on life.

The weight loss has been tougher after my third baby. I had to take it easy to keep my milk supply up. I kept at it though. I am not at my pre-baby weight because I have put on 10 pounds of muscle on my previously too-thin frame. I eat a lot of healthy fats (coconut, butter, fish oil) nuts, cheese, chicken, and veggies. I try to keep the grains to a minimum. It is great to be strong and it really comes in handy when I am carrying around my heavy toddler or bringing in 7 grocery bags. I can do 8 unassisted chin-ups (I never thought that was possible!) and I can easily keep up with my kids.

Consistently challenging yourself is just that- challenging. But once it becomes a way of life it is very satisfying and confidence-boosting. I actually really enjoy and look forward to the tough workouts.
I love Cathe because she epitomizes what it means to be a strong, successful and beautiful woman. Plus when you start up a new Cathe DVD you know it is going to challenge you! Thanks Cathe!

My fight against obesity goes back to 1999. I weighted 74 kilos, I was in my twenties and studying at University. I decided I had to do something to lose weight, so started to correct my diet and lost 12-14 kilos, but stayed overweight for a long time. The scale was stuck, I thought that a clean diet was all I had to do and exercise was something I thought I could not fit in my daily routine.

Eight years ago I started to work-out, at first with Kathy Smith, dropped some other kilos, the scale reached 55 but still I had good layer of fat around my body. Then I got pregnant and during pregnancy I started think about my fitness level and what was not working with me. I did a lot of exercise but still had no good results and this made me very disappointed. Then, surfing the net, I discovered Cathe Friedrich and her website with so many tools: a forum, monthly rotations, a lot of information about fitness, nutrition and so on. And above all, a wide variety of workout I could easily download and try immediately.

I resumed working out 2 months after delivery, in July 2010 ( picture above is of that period). This time I decided to follow Cathe. My first digital downloads were Low max, Power Max and Step fit. I loved this woman since the first time I pressed the play button on my remote control. She was so energetic, encouraging, and the workouts were so much fun! I start ed to see results: my post-partum belly was going away and I was getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I started to buy other dvds, such as Intensity, Lower Body Blast, Butts and Guts, Imax 2 and Imax 3, Gym Style legs… and one by one, I think I have bought most of her dvds. Obviously I started to discover the beauty of lifting weights. I was no more scared of dumbbells and barbells also because my muscles were toning and I liked my new shape.

I followed many of Cathe’s rotations until 2 years ago, when I decided to resume running ( I had started to run just before getting pregnant). I think I wouldn’t have been able to do that first run of 5k if my body hadn’t been conditioned by Cathe. I was so happy about the fitness level I had gained through the years! That first run was followed by many others, now I run 30-35 miles per week but Cathe is always an important part of my routine. I stopped lifting for a while and discovered that I was gaining weight again despite all my hours of running, so I promptly came back to my beloved STS total body, Total body trisets, Muscle Max and Power Hour. And when I am short on time, I do love the X-train series which offers a great variety of workouts of different lengths. I try to dedicate to Cathe at least two days every week, I get inspired by her rotations and I am so happy beacause she targets my body in different ways, her metabolic /circuit workouts are really my favorite way of exercising, I love all of them even if I often reach for Afterburn or Supercuts or Flextrain.

She has done a lot for me also when I got injured this past spring and had to stop my runs for a while: I turned to LIS to keep cardiovascular conditioning and muscle tone and then increased the amount of stress on my muscle/joints moving through kickboxing ( 4DS kickbox and kick, punch and crunch from the Timesaver collection) and then stepping at a low impact level .I felt that my recovery was sped up by all those functional moves and she probably helped me to correct some muscles imbalance I had.

I still have some weight to loose, my “wide hips” are still my biggest problem, but I dropped 3 sizes since I started to workout with Cathe, and I am in the best shape of my life. Cathe has done a world of good to me and she will always play a major role in my fitness routine and in my life as well. And now…can’t wait to try those RWH workouts!!!!

I had exercised with Cathe in the past as I have a lot of her dvds. When she came out with the Xtrain program I decided to start the program in April of 2013. Just a few short weeks later I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. Although we were so excited to welcome another little one, I was so worried about being able to get back my pre-pregnancy body for the second time, especially with everyone warning how much harder it would be the second time around. But I kept on working out while I was pregnant. I missing very few workouts, even during the first 3 months when the pregnancy really got me down. I continued to do Xtrain but with modifications and also did the elliptical and lots of walking, right up until delivery.

We welcomed out little girl on 12/23/13 so my postpartum journey began in January. At 5 weeks post, my dr released me to begin exercise again. I went right back to Xtrain, again with modifications at first, and then added flex training, afterburn, and others into the mix. I also started running again. Its not easy finding the time but health and fitness is important to me so I make time even if that means getting up while its still dark to get my workout in before everyone else in the house is awake.

At this point I am almost 9 months postpartum and within 3 lbs of where I was pre-pregnancy. My before picutre is at about 5 weeks post and my after picture was taken about a month ago (8 months post). As they say it takes 9 months to gain it and it will take 9 months to lose it. Thanks to Cathe and her videos I was able to lose it and get my pre-pregnancy body back once again!

Keila Smith’s Success Story

My fitness journey with Cathe started in 2005. I weighed almost 250 pounds. I had tried fad diets, different workout DVDs, and even gym memberships. It seemed nothing worked and I didn’t stick with any of them. Then one day, I skeptically purchased a step aerobics kit. It came with the step, hand weights, band, and stability ball and an instructional Cathe DVD set. I had never heard of Cathe but I purchased the kit anyway.

When I first attempted the workout I could not complete the beginner DVD. Day after day I would workout. Cathe became my motivator and inspiration! I would set goals for myself to get further each day, even if only a minute more. From there I set goals of moving on into intermediate workouts and then on to goals of completing advanced workouts.
I now have almost all of Cathe’s DVDs. She’s still with me after all these years driving me to new fitness levels. I had a dream of one day attending a Road Trip. This would be an opportunity for me to exercise along side the person I attribute my success. I would have the opportunity to meet my role model and thank her personally for all of the motivation and inspiration she has given me. Well, guess what? That dream is now a reality! I will be attending my first Road Trip in October! I couldn’t be more excited! I believe I am equally nervous!
Cathe and her workouts are now a part of my daily life. I would have never imagined that one purchase of a step aerobics kit could be so life altering. That purchase introduced me to Cathe Friedrich and she ignited a fire inside me I did not know I possessed. That fire is still burning just as bright! Thank you, Cathe!

I have followed Cathe since she was on Fit TV. Fitness and healthy eating have always been priorities in my life. I taught kickboxing for over 6 years and I enjoy helping people reach their fitness goals. A year and a half ago I found a lump in my left breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer. A week later I had a single mastectomy. Three days later I was rushed into emergency surgery because I was bleeding internally.

After my 2nd surgery I was told that the cancer had not spread into my lymph nodes so I did not have to have chemo or radiation but I would have to take tamoxifen, an estrogen blocker for 5 years. I started reconstruction journey 3 months later and had my right side removed and expanders put in. I had to go for weekly fills for my expanders and everything was going good until I developed a serious staph infection. I was put in the hospital for 6 days with an IV of strong antibiotics and then sent home with a pic line for another week. Thank goodness my infection cleared up.

I had my implant surgery this past April. In between my surgeries I would try to rebuild my strength through exercise. I would start to get fit again and then back into surgery I went. Let’s just say after having 4 surgeries and a bad infection within a year and a half it was getting pretty difficult to stay positive but I did. We all have hurdles in life. You can choose to let them absorb you or you can conquer them. I chose to conquer and now I am back to working out 5 days a week and feeling like a champ.

Breast cancer does not discriminate and the percentage of women getting diagnosed is climbing. Self examinations can save your life! If you find a lump get it checked immediately. I know it’s scary but if it’s caught early it can save your life
