Imagine an organization or a company that does not give importance to an entity that could give harmonious, ordered and effective workplace…. one word, chaos. Human Resource Management (HRM) is purposely injected and deemed significant in any organization. It is an act of overseeing, managing and injecting activities of and to every individual involved in the organization from recruitment, to improvement, to retirement.

Human Resource Management (HRM) is the main function of the Human Resource Department (HRD). It aims to provide efficient individuals that would contribute to the success of the organization. From recruitment, it is the HRD’s role to choose the best fitting applicant to be part of the team. And, follows with planning, presenting and facilitating activities, of which mostly focus on work ethics.

So what is work ethics? Is it that significant that most organizations put emphasis on? A human resource with good work ethics will go a long way. It is the key of the many successful organizations. However, such does not come in handy. It would take myriad of programs which highlight good work ethics for the betterment of each individual and the organization as a whole.

One of the most important job of Human Resource Management is to always attentive to business ethics. Being the department that handles directly with the employees, they are expected to deal different ethical challenges that can hurt the company or the organization’s reputation and if not handled properly, can even threaten the organization’s financial sustainability. Breaches of work ethics in human resources can lead to the company or organization into the world of legal trouble – civil and criminal arenas, an area that companies or organizations would wish to never get involve to. This is why companies or organizations develop a comprehensive work ethics programs to avoid work-related, expensive, troubles resulting in lower costs for litigation and out-of-court settlements.

Ethics has always been present in every individual. It is just up with the management to keep and cultivate it among their employees. Getting a good reputation as an ethical employer can help to attract exceptional talents to the organization since employees look for the most beneficial employment relationship they can find. As expected to an opposite employment relationship, the skilled, creative and experienced employees would rather submit their resumes elsewhere.

Ethical treatment of employees can help organizations to garner long term employee trust and loyalty. Loyal employees gain more experience in work and master production processes that can increase employee efficiency and productivity overtime which can help the human resource management keep the recruitment and training cost under control.

The Martians (2015) Movie Review

The Martians is based from the New York Times best seller novel by Andy Weir and translated into a movie adaption by Drew Goddard, a producer of known TV series such as Lost and Alias. The movie was directed by Oscar nominated Ridley Scott who is also a producer of several known movies such of Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014), The A-Team (2010), and Prometheus (2012), to name a few. The main actors of the movie are Matt Daemon, best known for his character as Jason Bourne in the block buster movie series The Bourne Legacy, Jessica Chastain, also from relevant movie Interstellar, Jeff Daniels, and Kristen Wiiga.

The Martians is about an astronaut who was left in Mars after a strong sand storm and managed to stay alive in the red planet way longer than expected considering the scientific circumstances.

A group of astronauts/scientists were sent to Mars for a manned mission. Among the astronauts is Mark Watney who happened to be a biologist, was hit by debris and was presumed dead after left behind by his crew during a fierce storm. But Watney survived and finds himself stranded and alone in the unfriendly planet. With insufficient supplies, drawn upon his cleverness, wit and spirit he managed to survive and find a way to signal and communicate to Earth that he is alive.

The concept of the movie is very timely since Mars has been on the talks lately when experts discovered that water is present in the planet that leads to the assumption that it could be a livable planet like earth. Like any other planetary adventure movies, the setting of The Martians is practically focused on a satellite base with crawling rovers snooping around the every crater of the planet. The movie is quite fictional but does not totally slap the face of science. In other words, most of the scenarios and solutions presented in the movie are actual portrayal of space travel, gravity, and planet rovers. The Martians also succeeded portraying the usual characteristics of astronauts who are usually borderline genius and risk taker, hot-tempered, team players. Overall, The Martian was on point in the portrayal of the men and women in the field of space exploration.

Personally, I like the movie a lot. Credits to Ma’am Analiza for sharing about the movie to us in fulfillment of the supposed to be book review assignment. I think the whole point of the movie is to accept and understand that universe is very powerful and there are lots of planets out there that are very intriguing yet very deadly to mankind. As what Watney said at the end part of the movie, the space does not work on your favor. The movie also portrays the importance of communication - being able to reach, communicate, and understand a message is very vital.

The movie reemphasized science and that indeed knowledge is power. Watney was able to survive and was rescued because he applied his knowledge in the field of botany, the science of crops to reproduce foods while waiting for rescue. The brilliant minds on earth on the other hand, used science to find and formulate ways to communicate, prepare, and execute a rescue plan for Watney. Science, knowledge and skills can keep us alive. So we should never ditch any opportunity to learn because we might need it someday to survive.

As they say brilliant minds think alike and it was very prevalent in the movie. Since they can hardly communicate at first, Watney from Mars, and NASA from earth exhausted all the technology, old and new, to be able to communicate. Communication is communication, regardless of forms and the manner it was executed. For as long as message is conveyed and understood, it can make a difference. The unspoken communication between Watney and his co-crew members is also exemplary. It is very touching to think that they are willing to risk a lot knowing that their teammates would also do the same for them.

Lastly, the communication between countries is also taken into account in the movie. Who would have thought that China would step in to assist the US government, lending their classified technology to be able to help? I really don’t have an idea if this can be realistic, but it’s a scenario that depicts good thing happens when people, community, and countries would continue to communicate and help each other for the greater good.

Jack the Giant Slayer: A Review

Jack the Giant Slayer, a movie based on the fairy tale story of Jack and the Beanstalk, bombed at the box office over the weekend. This has been a harsh lesson to Warner Brothers when it comes to marketing, subject, release date, among others. The movie actually raked in 29 millions dollars, which is good for a movie to make it to number one. However, this does not really make it a success since the film cost a lot of money to make.

Along with a financing partner, Warner Brothers shelled out 190 million dollars to make the movie. In addition to the costs of the movie, they also spent approximately 80 million dollars for marketing within the United States and foreign countries. But the executive vice president of Warner Brothers defended the box office performance of Jack the Giant Slayer, stating that the box office results were good in Canada as well as other international countries. He contends that the movie just needs some time to make it big in the box office.

One major problem that the movie has encountered is the presence of another film, Oz the Great and Powerful by Disney. This movie has almost the same audience, and will be released on the coming weekend. This movie has managed to capture the interest of audiences, which makes it even more difficult for Jack the Giant Slayer to get the attention of moviegoers.

In several Asian countries, Jack the Giant Slayer managed to rake in 13.7 millions dollars. Warner Brothers is very much pleased with the results. As a matter of fact, it also has high hopes that the movie would be able to get 225 millions dollars with its international audiences. This would be sufficient to get a break even for the expenses incurred in the making of the film. Take note that half of the international sales of movie tickets go to the theater owners themselves.

However, Jack the Giant Slayer is still considered as a box office problem for the studio. While it has managed to snag the Best Picture award at the recent Academy Awards for the movie Argo, it still has a string of losses with its last few movies. These movies include the Gangster Squad, Beautiful Creatures, as well as Bullet to the Head.

There have been mixed reviews for the movie, based from the exit surveys among moviegoers themselves. This movie was actually touted to be a solid film, especially with its director who is popularly known for his work with the X-Men movies. So where did Jack the Giant Slayer go wrong? Analysts say that it is generally difficult to follow up on the success of similar movies, such as Alice. Imitation usually happens when a movie hits it big, and other studios will now follow suit. But the results are usually not that good, and this is certainly what happened with the movie. The executives at Warner Brothers still remain to be optimistic, stating that it truly is a challenge if a movie aims for a wide audience.

So I ended up watching Letters to Juliet from my mobile while eating and slept at around 3:00 AM. It was a great movie and I really regret why it took me so to watch it. A Trip to Waig Crystal Spring Resort

A former co-worker of mine told about a beautiful place situated in the province of Bukidnon. Nature lover as I was, I didn’t wasted time to search about the resort. Right upon seeing the site, I couldn’t just relax and decided to plan an immediate gateway to such a wonderful creation.

Waig Crystal Spring Resort is a 3.6 hectare of land with myriad of interesting adventure-filled score of activities to do. It is located in the beautiful province of Maramag Bukidnon that is about four to five hours of travel from Davao City and about three to four hours from the city of Cagayan de Oro. In our case, we came from Davao City and left at about 2:30 in the afternoon. We reached the municipality of Maramag at around 8:00 p.m. because of some delays on the way; road repairs and accidents. From Maramag bus terminal, we negotiated a tricycle (there are other means of transportation in the said municipality, only buses and tricycles) to bring us to the resort. It costs us, (only two of us) P100.00 pesos for the fare. We are totally stranger to the place so we actually don’t have an idea how much is the minimum fare. Another 15 minutes of travel was taken. Since it’s already quite dark, I got a bit frightened because the way to the resort is very dark, no street lights and you often encountered vehicles around.

Finally we reached Waig Cystal Spring Resort and even though it’s already dark, I just can’t help but to appreciate the peacefulness of the place. It is truly an ideal place for nature lovers and for people who want to temporarily be away from the stressful noise of the city. Tired from the travel, we headed to the information and talked to a very polite attendant for our reservation. The rate for a standard room, good for two people is P1,200.00. This is for an overnight stay and includes free breakfast for two. We are very much lucky because the room that we occupied is fronting the entire view of the resort. The place is very cold and very much conducive to long hours of sleep. It is also wifi covered so it would be a lot more fun if you have your gadgets along with you. After taking a nap, we heard our stomach growling so we decided to go to their dining area for dinner. Orders are served until 12:00 and it was still 11:00 so we are just lucky. Since it’s about to be midnight we just ordered sandwiches and two bottles of juice drink. Based from experience, we recommend that you bring your own food because the affordable room rates are justified with the rates of the food, our very light snack costs us almost P250.00 pesos.

Nothing can be compared to the beauty of sunrise along with the cold wind that greets you in the morning. Plus the laughter and the smiles of families and children playing in the resort’s 4 huge swimming pools are truly heart warming. We hurriedly took our breakfast and joined our selves to the refreshing waters. The resort has also a cable car and a zip line amenity for added adventure. Since our check out time is 12:00 noon, we left WAIG CRYTAL Spring resort with a smile and a decision that we will definitely coming back to such a marvelous place.

I just saw this boy in YouTube and by then I just can’t get enough of him. He is Sungha Jung, a young Korean boy. I’ve searched his profile but all that I found was his videos. He is amazing and totally gifted. Even in his young age, he rocks! If plays the guitar much more brilliant than other adults do. As if he has his own world when he plays the guitar. If Charice from the Philippines was discovered from Youtube and went international, then I guess he deserves to be known too. See him play and you’ll sure agree with me.

My first Lorega experience

My trip to Lorega, more or less two hours travel from Davao City. We left our houses at 7:00 for the Ecoland terminal. We waited for 30 minutes before having the trip. The way to Lorega is really nice. Lots of sceneries and people busy of their daily routines are the casual things that you might encounter on the streets. The fog is heavy so there were some areas where you really can't see the views. Salute to the bus driver coz he still managed. Upon arriving at Lorega I was really amazed of the temperature. It was really cold. I haven't been to Baguio yet but at least now I know what to expect. I should have brought thicker jacket so I could have enjoyed the cold temperature more. such a nice place.. but very cold.. thanks to kuya Gil and family for the invi. too bad I spoiled the fun.. and Alex's too.. sorry.. :(

We went to the highway to wait for abus to ride. We went down at 5:00 and guess what, its already dark. People at that place sleeps early. It its kinda new to me that as early as 5:00 you can no longer see people loitering around. But surely, that isn’t going to be my visit to Lorega, for if invi goes on my way again, sure I won’t say no!

“Forgetting the feelings that you have for someone is one of the most difficult things is life. For the greatest battles are not fought in the most dangerous battlefields but in the heart.”

I have read this line from a school paper and I just can’t help to smile knowing that this was written by a student. Her article was about “Holding on and Letting Go”. This girl must have fallen in love so early to write such stuff. Or she must have been through a very deep heartache to realize such thought. Funny coz I can perfectly recall that when I was her age I don’t give a single damn about love and being hurt. All I care is assignments, movies, cartoons, food, and sleeping..

As we all know, time passes by, people grow, fall in love, and get hurt. Like any other normal being, I experience a lot of pain. I had cuts from playing skipping rope, had bruises from running here and there, had injury from falling from the trees, and had muscle pain from bicycle accidents. But none of these can ever compare to the heart aches I’ve been through.

I have experienced a lot in my 24 years of living. I felt how crazy and difficult it is being a part a broken family. The shame and complexity of living in two different stones banging each other for the quest of pity pride. I felt how it is to be executed by your own conscience because of being carried away from anger and loosing someone in times that you least expected it to be. I felt the deadly feeling of loosing a family member without having the chance to say sorry. Yes, I went through all of this and these made me vulnerable and strong at the same time.

Now I am struggling to new emotional difficulties. Pressure from the career that I chose, pressure from the realities of life, pressure from unattained ambitions, and hurting from my beloved ones.

Indeed physical pain is far less than the pain in the heart that I have experience. Emptiness and disappointments are the greatest that sometimes I thought I could not bear. Especially if I can do nothing about it. For we have different feeling and emotions. And we cannot force someone to treat us on how we wish to be treated. Life is just like that. You’re lucky if you will be loved.

But regardless of what is, I have learned to always remember that I am not living for myself alone. I have responsibilities to fulfill and friends to be paid attention to. The most dangerous battlefield might be the heart, but still I believe t hat heart can still be overruled by the mind. So it is just all up to me.

what i want, what i am, who will i become...

For the past years of my life i have been struggling... always worried about finances, school activities, family, and a lot more concerns.. til i finished up college and started to work.. still i had a lot of troubles. always wishing for a stress free working environment. no phone calls to attend to, no paper works, just work for only eight hours, no uniforms, and work with friends.. luckily i am not into this.. finally i quit my stressful job, and had a new one, having all of these that i have wished for. but why is it that i am worried? as if felt like it's just too good to be true. uneasy and restless that it wont last long...

my friend's departure was moved a month to its scheduled date. and i was happy.. very happy that i will still have a lot of time with him. but why do i feel I'm alone. what's wrong with me? huh!i wanna sleep all day but i can't..hope i'll get over this.. i really hope..

i wonder what will i become.. wanna have my own place.. wanna feel solemnity.. wanna have privacy.. free from rascals and big mouths.. again i hope to. i really hope it'll be... soon..

May, ended, June passed and now it’s already July!!

It’s been a while since I last documented events in life. June has been a very memorable one. Lot’s had happened… June 3, was the birthday of my bf, June 24 was my bday, and it was also in June when I got into a whirlwind situation of tendering my very much looked forwarded resignation..

Yes, after two years of being connected with BC family, an opportunity came and without further elaboration, I decided to leave the institution. In the past 2 years I have learned a lot being with the most brilliant, intelligent, wise, and friendly people.. Truly memorable..

Now its time to move on for a new opportunities…

Summer is over; I want to go snorkeling again!!! I can still recall those moments I had an adventure during those travels. Isla Reta was so far the best place for snorkeling for me. Feels like I’ve experienced heaven upon seeing those very nice corals and school of fishes. To the point that you’ll really enjoy viewing it that you will no longer notice how long you’ve been staring at them (of course you need to be comfortable with snorkels and you must know how to swim since you’ll be drive away from the shore). But that moment I was really thankful that I was able to witness such(yes you’ll end up thanking God for all the details).. For those who have gone to Isla Reta I guess you’ll join giving thumbs up with me. For those who have not, here’s a glimpse of how such beautiful place looks like…

However, such beauty of nature requires really time and effort since compared to other beaches in IGACOS, it’s last trip via boat is only by 3:00 PM. I can still recall the first time me and officemate went there, was such an escapade.. We arrived at Santa Ana wharf at 2:30 pm hoping that we can still make it for the last trip. Unfortunately, the boat for Talikud Island was already loaded as early as 2 PM. With our eagerness to be at Isla Reta we took the risk and headed for the alternative route. From Sta. Ana Wharf we rode the Bus for Samal Island which is about an hour or more travel with P35/person fare. Upon reaching Peñaplata, again we rode motorcycle (habal-habal) for another 30 minutes or less for Kaputian and cost us again P120. From Kaputian, finally we rode a bangka, which can carry maximum of 10 passengers but since its past five o’clock we need to pay the entire amount of the travel which is P200. Luckily, we reached Isla Reta before 6 PM. It was all worth it. We just set a tent up and requested for a table for a food. It was really a great means of relaxation, talking till you’ll run out of topics to talk with, enjoying the solemnity of the place, eating, star gazing, and of course swimming. That was a really great experience, the expenses and hassle in travels was all more than the worth. Truly unforgettable…

A supposed to be happy and exciting vacation turned out to be a disappointment. Was it because of me or was it because of people whom I really don't understand.. I'm sick of this life.. responsibilities, expectation, boredom. Wish I can fly far away from here. Away from the usual and welcoming new opportunities, positive living, free from expectations..

Responsibilities?? I can live with it.. But I really want to get away from toxic people.. The ones who supposed to be your wings but turned out to be an anchor. Keeping me stagnant and irremovable yet pressuring for more…

My sister Jacky is my life.. Seeing her so upset is such a painful view for me. Though we often argue, she means a lot to me. When she's around I'm sometimes annoyed with her never tiring mouth talking and shouting. And yet when she's out I miss her.

My sister makes me smile. Even just by looking at her. Can't imagine my life without her.. She who opens the door when I arrive, who wears my shoes though she looks like a clown on it, who never cease of waking me up when she feels like doing so, who always plan of what to eat on snacks and on dinner, my chocolate eating partner, my TV competitor, my friend. She’s my life.

And it troubles me so much to see her wondering. She’s not the sister that I knew. It’s unlikely her.

Don’t worry my dear sister. I’ll always be here for you no matter what. That’s a promise.

I have these two rings given to me by my Mom when I was still in third year high school. Since then I have been wearing it and that was more or less 8 years ago. By now I can hardly remove it for I feel bare without it in my hands. I remembered when I was in college, a classmate told me that I should not put rings in my ring fingers because there was this hearsay that this blocks my love life. She said that this will keep me away from men. I just laugh at it coz I don’t cling to superstitious beliefs. Funny though, I had this long time suitor who turned out to be her boyfriend. After college, I had my very first boyfriend. Unfortunately, he left for a job overseas so to cut the story short, the relationship didn’t work.

Our superiors in work advised us, (being all girls and singles in the office) to really pray to God to give us a loving man to be a partner in life. According to her, we should really pray for it so as not to fall into wrong persons. We just laughed at it again and decided to follow their advice. However, due to some busy schedule or just a mere act of stubbornness I really never had the time to pray for my love life. But a phone call came to me this morning with a friend and told me a story that she know a girl who have been in a relationship wherein she never felt being loved by her boyfriend. My immediate reaction is this, “why keep on holding a one way relationship??” But at the back of my mind, what if the same situation happens to me. Woman as I am, I am vulnerable to these kind of affair for who am I to be excluded. But a big no, no… A certain denial came in to me. Before going to work, I decided to drop by the church to have a moment of talk to my one precious and only LISTENER. I lighted a candle and prayed.

Consequently I noticed that the stone in my ring is gone. I remembered still seeing it this morning. I felt bad noticing it for as I have said, it has been with me for years. What does it mean?? Was it just a coincidence? I really can’t tell.

To love and to be loved, that’s all remains to be seen not only for me but for all of us. But the more important thing is that, we should entrust everything to HIM. For He knows what and who is the best for us…

An Illusionary Recreation

A friend of mine has been asking me to have a day off and just enjoy. Hands-off from the computer, get out of the house, do what I want to do and go where I want to go. But I’m a realistic type of a person. Not having the luxury of time & financial practicality considerations, I believe that’s way too far from possibility. However, I’m imaginative too. So I guess a little bit of fantasy won’t do any harm... Hmm... Let me walk you through my flight of imagination.

In one good day of the Lord, the President declared a three day non-working holiday, a gift for hardworking Filipinos. (Whoaah, I wonder who would that be??) And to my surprise, I received a phone call. The person calling is an employee of the department store where I bought a bottle of lotion (quite possible since I’m not comfortable w/o oneyuo inside my bag) informing me that I am the winner of P20, 000.00 cash for their anniversary raffle.(yes! This would be my first time to win any form of raffle coz I’m more on the unlucky type. Haha). We’ll then, all are settled. One perfect recreation coming up!

First stop, camera shop! Need to have one cute digital camera to capture the happy moments.

Next destination, IGACOS (Island Garden City of Samal) to Isla Reta. I have been wanting to go to this place. I’ve heard a lot of things about this resort. One of my friends told me that’s its really nice. A very natural place good for snorkeling (one of the beach activities that I enjoy the most. I will be staying overnight to do my routine every time I’m in a beach. Walk into the darkness of the seashore and just gaze to the stars. (not thinking of anything but appreciating its solemnity). In the morning, wake up early and witness the beauty of the sunrise. After that, swimming, picture taking, eating, sleeping etc.

Next venue, go south, speed ahead for a less than 5 hour land travel to Lake Sebu. My officemate, a local of General Santos City told me that the place is composed of 7 huge falls. (Whahh I can’t wait to see it in person!!!) I haven’t seen waterfalls in person yet.. Good Lord please let me see your creation. I want to experience nature again. Pls..pls..pls..

Now, I think I’ll be all filled up.. Head back to home again.. But before that, I’ll have a visit to the Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague.. attend mass and thank God for everything. Appreciate the place for a while and go home.

Upon reaching home, immediately hook up to the internet, make a blog and share my adventure. And then, sleep, sleep, sleep.. By then, I’ll be ready to go back to the basics..

Sleeping Disorders..

Been pressured to sleep just for the sake of sleeping? Being hooked up to the internet or TV series in the evening that you tend to forget the time and then end up pressuring those innocent eyes and loaded minds to shut off everything? If we share the same dilemma then I should say we might need to start thinking if this is healthy. I am 23 and if you’re the same or at least not that far my age, I guess we should consider putting away these unnecessary strenuous activities so as to have great conditions again. As we all experienced not enough or shall we say shallow sleeping makes us groggy even if it is just early in the morning. With this, I decided to have a little research about the common reasons, effects and the solutions of this problem. Check this site, http://www.helpguide.org/life/sleep_disorders.htm and know things about Insomnia, Apnea, and Narcolepsy. Better be serious of this stuff guys. Or else you might end up being a zombie look alike or an early 20’s trapped in a 60 year old body.
