Happy New Year everyone. This is the first post in a long, long, time. I’m glad to be back and ready to jump back into the website with a renewed interest. That’s what 2011 is about for me. Renewal. I used to hate starting over from scratch every year and rebuilding accomplishments and such throughout the year. This year, I can’t wait to get started. So what’s new for 2011 you ask?

I’m fat. Nothing new there, but I am working on losing the pounds and keeping them off for good.

CaptainsCast is coming back. Ben has a renewed interest as well and wants to do the show again. I also realize how important it is for me to communicate with my boys and keep them on track. This is the way to do that.

Time Machine Toychest is coming back. More classic toys from yesteryear. This week brings the Frisbee!

Overgrown Boyscout is starting up anew. Since I have been thrust into the world of Scouting, I feel it is important to help others not that familiar with it. Look for me to hopefully be joined by Eagle Scout Jeff Hertlein as my co-host.

The Weekly Word Podcast will continue. For those looking for a great spiritual message, come listen to Dr. J, John Daniels, give his weekly message.

Coming soon – more blogging, more 70′s & 80′s history, and a few new podcast projects.

The boys were earning their scientist achievement in Scouting tonight. Mrs. CaptainsCast, a science teacher I might add, instructed the boys on various points of science. she mad it interesting and fun all at the same time. The boys did some fun little demonstrations as well as shooting off Diet Coke with Mentos. The night was capped off with the boys launching their own model rockets. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. As one of the boys said, “this is the best den meeting ever.” More to come on Saturday as we head out to the United States Air Force Museum. Enjoy the short video.

Just playing around with some video today. I figured I would ask the boys about 4th of July. Hunter’s response is going to get me killed by my wife. I remember growing up and 4th of July meaning heading to Ft. Loramie for the huge parade as a youngster and seeing the guy dressed as Uncle Sam on stilts. What was up with that? That parade seemed to go on for what seemed like 4 hours. In later years we had a summer house on Indian Lake in Ohio. I remember mom making homemade ice cream. That seemed to take 4 hours too. I remember one time we took the boat out at night to watch the fireworks. Of course it is pitch black on the water, so you pick out landmarks on the shore to help you get back home. We always picked the blinking red & blue light on this house near ours. We followed it back, but it seemed to take forever. It ended up we went across the lake in the opposite direction two miles from our destination. Nowadays we don’t have the lake, we have some of the ice cream, and we still have Uncle Sam on stilts. And according to Hunter, we have drinks like volcanoes. We plan on shooting some fireworks off, enjoying time with our friends and family, and most of all, enjoying our independence. Happy 4th of July everyone.

We started our Disney adventure today with a trip to the Magic Kingdom after getting checked into our room. We started off with Mickey’s Philharmagic, It’s a Small World, the Haunted Mansion, Tea Cups, Tomorrowland Speedway, Goofy’s Barnstormer, the Disney train, Splash Mountain, & Big Thunder Mountain. And all that was done after 2pm. Friday is EPCOT. Stay tuned for more.

Where’s the podcast?

People have been wondering why the updates have stopped with the podcast. The simple answer to it is we’ve got too much on our plate right now. Work, school, scouting, soccer, housekeeping, yard work, you name it. Every time we try to sit down to do an episode, something gets in the way. Hopefully now that soccer just finished yesterday, we can get back on track. I do not want to provide Ben with too many distractions from school right now. He seems to be struggling a bit, and has had a few surprising disciplinary issues we are dealing with as well. Kind of funny now. We’ll talk about it on the show soon.

In the meantime please keep checking out the site for daily history updates from the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s, & 90′s. We’ll also be re-vamping the show a bit as well as a logo change. Stay tuned.

Take 1…crash

Our first recording of the CaptainsCast was a failure. We had great material, great dialogue, and a great recording. Until the power went out for 2 seconds. As you can guess in my excitement to record all of the segments of the show, I never saved. Therefore, we lost all of the work we put into the show. At least it was a great dress rehearsal. We now have a better understanding of what we need to do for the next attempt.
