This is a two bedroom cabin crafted from Larch trees. The client opted to keep the golden colour of the timber by using Cutek clear, this will then preserve and protect the timber but keep the rich colouring.

A four bed, lakeside log cabin in Norfolk utilizing Cutek wood treatment.

This is a four bed cabin in Norfolk on a log cabin development next to a lake. A team of eight log builders were needed in the construction of this cabin, in which Dan was involved. The cabin was built off site and then moved to its intended location and, upon completion in late september 2010, will go on the market for sale. As you can see, the wood has a distinctive colouring which is the effect of Cutek. You can choose from several different colours with Cutek, a wood preservative that we advise Canada Wood customers to use on their cabins.

Here at Canada Wood our passion for log construction is irrepressible. We believe that it is the future of pre-fabricated, low-carbon buildings with the flexibility of tailor making your own personal dream.

Log cabins are extremely affordable and durable. A building that can take just 12 weeks to construct can last a lifetime.

Each hand-crafted log cabin is created to your own personal specification, and because of the construction technique will give the building optimal strength, much more than you would find in a machine profiled log cabin.

Once completed will I have to treat the wood on my cabin?

Your cabin, if left untreated will naturally turn grey, this is the effect of the ultra violet rays that will break down a woods finish, the more pigment a wood has the better it will resist UVA rays. A darker wood will maintain its colour for longer. You can apply linseed oil, which is the traditional method. Here at Canada Wood we use Cutek, a treatment that is specially formulated to resist fungus and mould, it is also designed to penetrate deeply, providing water repellancy. This treatment also gives you the option of choosing the colour you wish your cabin to maintain, as you may prefere the natural greying, or may wish to stain the wood completely, there are various coulours to choose from.

The location for this log building was the platform of an old railway station, no less, and provides two stables, a tack room and a hay loft for storage or even accommodation.

Logs are an excellent choice of building material, they out-perform a 9 inch cavity block wall on insulation, warm in winter and cool in summer, making log construction ideal for stables. There is also the possibility of applying for a change of use to residential after a few years. All in all, a good investment.

A block wall was built up to the damp course with half logs placed on top ready to carry on the construction in log work. the roof was designed with a very large over hang at the front to give shelter in winter and shade in summer.

If this type of building was on piers with a suspended floor it would conform to the caravan act making planning more favourable. Because this building was 4.8 meters high a full planning application had to be made, but a 4.5 meter high structure would qualify for a permissive build, which would only require a notification, a very simple process generally taking just 28 days.
