The members of College Community Congregational Church, Fresno, CA have unanimously voted to install a large scale solar electrical system on the roof of their sanctuary, located at 5550 North Fresno Street, between Barstow and Bullard Avenues. In an ongoing effort to support practices and projects that help to conserve our precious resources, the Congregation has committed over $200,000 to the purchase and installation of the system, less rebates from PG&E their service provided. This very powerful system, installed by Unlimited Energy of Fresno, has a bi-directional meter, which allows the Church to be credited back by PG&E for the power that is generated and used.

For years, the world risked nothing to restore safety or peace to the people of Myanmar. In the last 20 years, ethnic minorities there – Karen, Shan and others – have been subjected to rape, murder, slavery and forced relocation at the hands of the ruling party. Thai refugee camps offer the only semblance of safety for those who escape. Global Ministries has teamed with the Thai Burma Border Consortium (TBBC) in helping to provide the basics – food, housing, medical care and primary education—for these refugees. Before the devastating cyclones in 2008, there were more than 150,000 refugees living in these border camps. Resettlement efforts have been stepped up, with the United States agreeing to accept 9,000 refugees in one year. The United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ are helping to resettle Myanmar refugees through Church World Service.

God of all creation, we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper. Teach us to reach out—to risk – in order to restore others’ faith in humankind.
