Are your purple cakes turning blue?

Hi all,
Whenever I take pictures of a cake that has a purple hue to it, pictures turn out blue instead of the actual purple/mauve/lilac color. Any trick out there to make it look purple? Apparently, I am not the only one with this problem! I try to edit the pictures but the “real” color does not come through !

Any advice?

Not only pictures turn blue but the fondant itself, if left for more than a day or so, turns blue too. I read that Wilton purple colors remain the same, but the one I used on my latest cake was wilton and it did chnage color slightly and that Americolor changes drastically! They said to use some baking soda with your purple colored fondant to bring the actual color back (if not used yet). Has anyone tried that?

Sponge Bob Form cake pan?

Can anybody tell me where I can find the Sponge Bob Form cake pan beside the one made by Wilton? It seems like the one that I want is only available in other countries and I can’t seem to find a company that ships to the United States. I’ve included an image of the cake that looks like it was made from the pan I am in search of. Thanks.

Egg Free Sponge Cake

Hello
Please can someone help me with a recipe for an egg free vanilla sponge cake? I received a request to make one, tried out an online recipe, which appeared on the internet on various websites, but to be honest it did not taste too good. It was dry, for some reason quite salty and crunbled easily. If anyone has any good ideas, please can you let me know. Many thanks.

Dry butter cake

Hi everyone,

I have only just joined your online caking community and am in awe of the all the work I have seen!

I have been self teaching myself cake decorating for just over a year but it is only a hobby so I am havent done that many and I am still very green.
One part of the cake decorating process that brings me the most fear and anxiety is the baking! :/.

Whilst I have a few very good recipes, I am stilling having problems finding a butter cake that is dense, tasty and not too dry.
I was kind of hoping that maybe someone on here maybe kind enough to share their recipe or a few tips with me ?

Fingers crossed,
Sharon

Transferring images onto a cake

I read online that the only way to transfer an image to a cake is by using buttercream. I am not a fan of buttercream… I am also new at this. I started out just making my kids birthday cakes, and now I am making cakes for family and friends. I would love to try a transfer.

Could I using whipping icing for the whole cake, then just use buttercream for the transfer part? I really do not want to use buttercream on the whole cake. I would love to learn new and different ways to make other cakes.

Can I fix a cracked figure?

So I made my Doc McStuffin figure with 50/50 satin ice chocolate and white fondx. I stopped using satin ice for figures because as it dries it ALWAYS cracks. I thought maybe if i mixed the chocolate SI with Fondx I would be ok, but nope.

I wanted to use the chocolate SI so i didn’t have to do a lot of dying of the fondant to get the color I wanted and I had some chocolate left over.

Does anyone have suggestions on what I can use to fix the big old crack down her face?

Boxed cake vs Scratch cake?

Which is better to use? Cake made from scratch? Or cake mix from a box? I feel in the long run from scratch is best, but if I’m just practicing I can use box cake right?
