Autodesk a world leader in 2D and 3D CAD Company founded way back in 1982 has been always moving ahead with change in technology. Today the company has products that cater to Media & Entertainment, Manufacturing, Architecture Engineering & Construction and event to consumer industry.

In India, Autodesk has offices at 4 places – Delhi, Pune, Mumbai & Bangalore. I’ve been attending Autodesk India Road Shows (Solutions Days) since 2006 at Bangalore., these are a physical events that are usually hosted in convention centers or popular 5 star rated hotels across the country.

Starting this year Autodesk India has moved to a virtual launch event activity & this is the first of its kind. Before we go ahead with complete details, let’s see what a virtual event is

What is Virtual Event ?

A Virtual Event is a gathering of people sharing a common virtual environment on the web, rather than meeting in a physical location. Virtual events are highly interactive, looking and feeling a lot like their physical counterparts.

Inventor Language Pack fails to uninstall

Have you been using Autodesk Inventor 2103 beta earlier ? Now when you uninstalled Autodesk Inventor 2013 Beta product that is part of a suite, the language pack occasionally may not fully be removed from your system. The Beta product entry is removed in the Control Panel, but the language pack is left behind on the machine although it will no longer show up in Add/Remove panel. This prevents any future successful installation or re-installation of Autodesk Inventor 2013.

To over come this problem, there is a simple tip / trick to uninstall the Inventor 2013 English (enu) language pack.

Type the following Windows Command line(s) in the Start > Run Window:

For 32 bit:

msiexec /x {7F4DD591-1732-0001-1033-7107D70F3DB4}

For 64 bit:

msiexec /x {7F4DD591-1764-0001-1033-7107D70F3DB4}

For removal of other language packs, refer to this table to find the string that needs to be placed between the curly brackets {…} in above command sequences:

How to find Product Key for Autodesk Products

Ever since the launch of Autodesk Suites, there has been a lot more confusion about how to input product keys for various autodesk products. The information below, will help you understand how one software using a product key will differ when under Suites.

Solution

Product keys are used to differentiate products that are both sold independently and sold as part of a product suite. For example, a user installing AutoCAD 2013 would use product key 001E1 while a user installing Autodesk Product Design Suite 2013 (which includes AutoCAD 2013) would use product key 783E1. The same AutoCAD is in both software packages but the product key differentiates one package from the other.

The serial number and product key for your Autodesk software can be found in a variety of locations, depending on how you obtained your product.

Physical Media

If you have physical media, you’ll see the serial number and product key printed on the label of the box.

This example shows the label from an Autodesk Education Master Suite for 2011 but the location and format will be similar for 2010 and later products. So, if you are installing from a DVD or USB key, the first place to look for this information is on the product packaging.

Subscription Center

If you’re a Subscription Customer, you can find this information in the “Contract Administration” section of the Subscription Center. Log into the Subscription Center, click “Contract Administration” > “Coverage Report”. Once you’re looking at the Subscription Coverage Reports, pick your contract number and you will see your serial number and product keys listed under the “Products” section.

Autodesk Education Community

If you participate in the Autodesk Education Community, you can find this information by logging in and locating the product in question. If you have not already downloaded the product, picking the download button will start the download and will display the products serial number and product key.

If you have already downloaded the product and just need to know the serial number and product key, pick the “Get Serial” button for your product to have it display this information.

Online Autodesk Store

If you ordered your product using the online Autodesk store, the serial number and product key will be provided in the “Order Details” confirmation screen after the purchase, as well as the subsequent “Thank You” e-mail that you will receive after the purchase process is complete.

Other Options

If, for whatever reason, you cannot locate your product key, there is another method:

Using your installation media, (USB key, DVD, download folder, etc.) navigate to the location of the setup.exe file for your Autodesk product.
In that folder, look for a file named MID.txt, MID01.txt, MID02.txt or some variation on that name.
Open this file in notepad and verify that the product name is what you expected it to be.
The first five characters of the part number should also be the product key for that product.

Example:

MID: Autodesk_Product_Design_Suite_Ultimate_2013_64bit_SWL_ENU_C009_EXE1
Product Name: Autodesk Product Design Suite Ultimate 2013
Platform: Windows XP/Vista/Win7
Part Number: 783E1

Configure Default Templates in Inventor 2013

Autodesk Inventor 2013, has made a significant improvement in the user interface experience. That’s true when you read the tip below

Configuring Default Template in Inventor 2013 is even easy. In the earlier release of Autodesk Inventor, in case you wanted to have a default template, you would make the settings during the installation of the software and when you wanted to change these it would be really difficult. However, there were options for you to choose the metric tab or english tab and in turn select the appropriate template before you proceed with the modeling. Also when you wanted to change the units in the earlier release of Inventor you need to do the following

Click Tools tab Options panel Document Settings to open the dialog box.
Click the Units tab to open it.
To change the setting for any of the measurement types or precision, click the arrow next to the edit box. Select the setting from the list.
When you have finished the desired changes, click Apply to save them.

But with the release of Autodesk Inventor 2013, both the above problems are now solved., as you can set the default unit and template before you start any of the modules.

When you start Inventor 2013, a startup screen also popsup., as you see below
