You can get an Internet merchant account through your local banks. Notice I say banks; to get credit card processing of all the major credit cards on your website you may need to get Internet merchant accounts with two separate banks as many banks only deal with some of the credit cards involved.

You can also get an Internet merchant account through a third party merchant account provider, such as Beanstream, Moneris, PSiGate or InternetSecure.

The advantages of getting an Internet merchant account through a third party merchant account provider are that most don’t require any security deposits (unlike banks), are quickly set up, and often can be bundled with ecommerce service packages that include the Internet gateway you need for online credit card processing (Web point-of-sale) and a shopping cart.

The disadvantage is higher fees. Discount fees in particular tend to be higher than if you had set up your Internet merchant accounts through the banks.

Wherever you get your Internet merchant account, you will have to also purchase an Internet gateway service. The gateway verifies information, transfers requests and authorizes credit cards in real time. All four of the companies I’ve mentioned above offer these credit card processing services as well, but there are many others that do too – including PayPal.

2) PayPal

PayPal is now also an all-in-one online payment solution. Their Website Payments Standard program lets you accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit card payments as well as bank transfers and offer PayPal as well – with no monthly fees, setup or cancellation fees. PayPal charges you a fee of 1.9 to 2.9 percent of transaction plus 30 cents per order, depending on your company’s sales volume.

PayPal also offers an upgraded version of Website Payments Standard called Website Payments Pro, where customers check out right on your site rather than on PayPal’s (currently available only in the U.S.).

UseMyBank is another Canadian company that provides online debit payment services. Like Interac Online, buyers use their existing Online Banking bill payment service with their own bank to pay for your goods or services online and the payment is directly debited to the selected bank account.

UseMyBank fees “will be assessed upon activation of account” according to their website. A discount rate of 1.5% to 5% and a minimum $1.50 fee per transaction are posted. There is also an account fee. To get started using UseMyBank on your website, apply directly through the UseMyBank website.

4) Give Them Offline Payment Options Too

Some of your potential customers are people who just aren’t comfortable with any of the online options outlined above or people who want to talk to a live person. But, if you boast Advertisers on your diary or Website you should consider using  PP as a way of getting your commissions and payments. Some Advertisers only pay through a PayPal account, but most will offer it as an option instead of using checks for remittances.

If you have your own products and/or services that are featured online PP is a quick and easy way to get payments from your customers. The only thing they need is either an account of their own or a Credit/Debit Card. Remittances are made directly to your E-mail address and are credited directly to your PayPal Account.

There is a $500 limit to transactions per month on a personal account which if fine for a Small Business just starting out. You decide when to make withdraws and transfer of funds to your personal or business bank accounts. Personally, I prefer using either a Checking or Savings account through my bank (even though there is an option of using a Credit Card) for a few reasons.

* Deposits can be made directly to your bank with No Fees
* Interest will accrue on funds with most banks
* Availability of funds for Offline use ie. paying bills, employees, office expenses

However, if a Credit Card is used as security will cost interest on any funds you transfer Into PayPal. PP doesn’t charge you but your CC will. This is a personal choice and it depends entirely on your situation and how you conduct your business.

PayPal is a very secure and trusted service for Online Business of any type. Payments to you are fast and are credited as soon as the payment is verified. PP is easy to work with if you have any questions or problems and they follow up right away with an E-mail for confirmation that your problems have been resolved.

I feel that a PayPal account is a Must Have for any Online Home Business and I highly recommend using it for Internet Transactions for Business or Personal use.

One of the most interesting link development techniques unveiled itself to me today. Many link developers and SEOs might be a little upset at me that such a great technique is not being used privately for my own gain but in my mind I fell I should share this with the SEO community as I really doubt  anyone else knows about this.

I was doing some thinking and I started thinking about job postings like corporations do on monster and simplyhired etc. Then it came to me, what if I posted a job application for college students on there .edu? What would happen, is it possible and would it be SEO friendly? Well, to my suprise, it is!! There’s no doubt that buying a couple of high page rank back links can significantly boost your rankings. Reciprocal links used to be the link building strategy of choice a couple of years ago. Basically it’s an exchange of links between 2 sites. You link to me and I link to you. We both benefit, right? Well, not anymore. Reciprocal links are fast becoming absolute as Google is catching on to this practice. With link farms springing up all over the net, getting thousands of reciprocal links became too easy. One way links carries a lot more value and although reciprocal links are an easy way to get free links, it is time intensive and probably not even worth it anymore.

Link building Mistake #2

Google’s page rank algorithm is getting smarter and smarter. One of the big changes in the way page rank is calculated is Google’s ability to determine relevancy. This is where anchor text comes in. Anchor text is the highlighted hypertext that contains the actual link. What this allows Google to see is what the link is for. It helps them determine how relevant the link is based on the keywords and the site it’s linking to and from. When building free links you should always try and use anchor text in your back links. It will give you some additional link juice.

Link building Mistake #3

These days a lot of forums and blogs have a tag called the “nofollow tag” which basically tells the search engine spiders not to follow links in the site. If you get a backlink from a site with a nofollow tag it won’t be picked up by the search engines and it won’t count as a link. Although there’s a lot of debate on whether these actually count as links it is probably not worth your time and effort to build links from nofollow sites. Building free back links is all about getting as much link juice as possible for every link you build. It can take a lot of time to build free backlinks and maximizing the effects of each link goes without saying. By just avoiding these 3 mistakes you can exponentially increase the effectiveness of your links. Regardless of what you do, you have to keep building links. Links will get you ranked and links will make you more money.
