My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has told Rock Sound that fans should get excited as the group put the finishing touches on their fourth album, currently being mixed with Rich Costey in Los Angeles:

“It is pretty safe to say that fans will not only enjoy this new record more than any of our previous albums but I think they will also get a clear picture from it, one that they will like. It is more raw and honest and a better snapshot of the band.”

The singer went on to hint that the album could be My Chemical Romance’s defining work:

“A friend who heard the record recently said he now had no interest in listening to our older work anymore, that we had made all our old material redundant. I took it as a compliment, the next thing you do should always make the last thing seem unimportant and I think that will happen when we finally release this album.”

Guitar Center announced today that MÖTLEY CRÜE’s Tommy Lee and the STREET DRUM CORPS’ Frank Zummo will present “Bezerk” — an exclusive project commissioned by Guitar Center, featuring some of today’s top drummers and artists — as part of the upcoming Drum-Off Grand Finals, taking place January 8, 2010 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Artists performing in “Bezerk” include Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), Matt Sorum (GUNS ‘N ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER), José Pasillas (INCUBUS), DJ Aero, Sully Erna (GODSMACK), Jay Weinberg, BANG! and others to be announced. When is the right time to release a greatest-hits record? After news broke that Britney Spears would be releasing a retrospective this fall — the 27-year-old’s third hits disc — and that Foo Fighters and Fall Out Boy would be doing the same, fans began arguing the point. Now the Foos’ own Dave Grohl has weighed in on the debate, telling the BBC that collections often feel like “an obituary.” Though the Foo Fighters’ 16-track Greatest Hits is out this week, Grohl reveals the band was asked to do a hits LP earlier in their career — and he refused. “They started asking about four years ago, and we said, ‘Don’t we need some hits?’ ” he said.

Grohl and Co. recorded two brand-new songs for this set, “Wheels” and “Word Forward.” But Grohl argues, “It still seems premature because we’re still a functioning, active band. … It’s like a CliffsNotes version of what we’ve been doing for the last 15 years.” He even quibbled with the album’s track list: “I think there are better songs than some of those.”

Guitarist Zacky Vengeance of AVENGED SEVENFOLD has issued the following update:

“It has been awhile since we have shed light on our current doings. Well, here is a long-awaited update into the world of A7X.

“We came off of the road amidst one of the most turbulent times in history. Everything going on around us was overwhelming, frightening, frustrating and confusing. I must confess that it was also very exciting to me. I’m sure you can share my sentiment.

“We have been focused on only one thing: writing and preparing to record what to me is our most personal and epic AVENGED SEVENFOLD album. The reason is the fact that everything happening around us in the entire world might be a once-in-a-lifetime source of inspiration and direction. We have been harnessing every aspect of what makes A7X truly unrelenting and building off of that. I don’t think we sleep too much anymore because of the excitement we feel while writing this album. Only a world spinning out of control could inspire the music and vision we have now. Once again, it is fucking exciting.

“We will continue finalizing our songs until we feel every note does both you [the fans] as well as us justice. We are also in the final stages of solidifying our production team, studios and engineers so that the second the axe falls and the album is written we will spend day and night in the studio until it is complete. This album will definitely take you on a very dark journey…”

AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s DVD/CD package, “Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough”, was released last September. The live DVD features the band’s April 2008 hometown show at the Long Beach Arena headlining the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour, while the CD contains previously unreleased b-sides that were recorded during the making of “Avenged Sevenfold”, plus various covers, and other never-before-heard material. The DVD was directed by Core Entertainment’s Rafa Alcantara, who also worked on the band’s critically acclaimed 2007 road documentary “All Excess”.

Kristin Winsents of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK’s weekly pop music show “Lydverket” recently travelled to Seattle to interview ALICE IN CHAINS, NIRVANA “Bleach” producer Jack Endino and GRAND ARCHIVES, among others, for a feature story on the grunge scene (looking back on its rise in the early ’90s as well as examining why PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS are experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity in 2009). Her unedited chat with ALICE IN CHAINS can now be viewed below.

As previously reported, “Project Runway” season three model Amanda Fields is featured in the new video from ALICE IN CHAINS, “Your Decision”, which was recently filmed in a “giant house between Santa Monica and Malibu off the Pacific Coast Highway.” The clip is being directed by Stephen Schuster, who previously worked with ALICE IN CHAINS on the “A Looking In View” video.

To coincide with the band’s European tour, ALICE IN CHAINS will release the “Your Decision” single on November 16 in the U.K.

“Your Decision” is the second single to be lifted from band’s first all-new album in 14 years, titled “Black Gives Way To Blue”, which sold 126,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart (behind latest albums from PARAMORE, MARIAH CAREY, BARBRA STREISAND and BREAKING BENJAMIN).

ALICE IN CHAINS recruited pop legend Elton John to contribute piano to the CD’s title track, which is written in tribute to Staley.

Singer William DuVall had played with his own group, COMES WITH THE FALL, as well as in Jerry Cantrell’s solo band, before joining up with ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006.

“Black Gives Way to Blue” was recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH) at the Northridge, California studio of FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

One of the most notable bands to break out of the Southern Florida music scene in the late Nineties, NONPOINT will be release an acoustic digital EP, “Cut The Chord”, on December 8 via their own 954 Records in partnership with Rocket Science Ventures / RED / Sony. The five-song effort features acoustic renditions of NONPOINT classics “What A Day”, “Circles”, “Rabia”, “Victim” and “Your Signs”.

Formed in 1998, the hard rock quartet from Ft. Lauderdale burst on the scene with its major label debut, “Statement”, on MCA Records. Since then, they have sold nearly 700,000 albums and played over 1,000 shows. Known for its dynamic performances, NONPOINT has shared the stage with such acts as MUDVAYNE, SEVENDUST, DISTURBED, HELLYEAH, DROWNING POOL and PAPA ROACH, and has taken part in Ozzfest.

In continuation of a successful 10-plus-year career, NONPOINT is back with a new guitarist, management and record label. The band has entered Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin to work on their full-length album with YEP! Productions’ Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett (also members of MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH) at the helm producing. The CD is slated for a spring 2010 release.

To close out the momentous year, NONPOINT will be perform live in Madison, Ft. Lauderdale and Tempe (see dates below) and in celebration of the holidays, 500 digital downloads will be given to the first 500 ticket purchasers at each show.

According to the courts, the Sublime that performed at California’s SmokeOut festival last week was not actually Sublime. A California judge has instructed the surviving members of the ’90s band, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, that they cannot use the name Sublime for their group with new singer Rome for any additional live appearances, merchandise or similarly named Internet domain names. The band’s We Are Sublime Website has since been replaced with a photo of a muzzled dog with a sign around its neck that reads “Free Sublime.”

As Rolling Stone reported, the estate of former frontman Bradley Nowell, who died from a heroin overdose in 1996, protested “Sublime” ’s appearance at the SmokeOut, stating that Nowell had trademarked the moniker and never intended for any band to use it without him. Wilson and Gaugh spent the last decade performing as the Long Beach Dub Allstars until recently, when they recruited Rome and renamed the band “Sublime.”

Wilson and Gaugh responded to the ruling with a statement that reads, “Our goal continues to be sharing the music and message of Sublime with all of our fans around the world. We intend to take the court’s advice and work on a business solution to this issue. We hope the Estate follows suit so the music of Sublime can live on and be accessible to everyone.”

Before their SmokeOut performance, the reformed Sublime successfully won the right to play under the name and issued a statement saying that despite the Nowell estate’s objections, “we are pleased that the United States District Court has allowed us to perform as Sublime for all of our fans.” The band said they wouldn’t call the band’s resurrection a “reunion,” but instead a “celebration’ of the band’s past.

In an interesting twist, Wilson and Gaugh are currently in litigation with another band currently performing under the name Sublime LBC, according to the Sublime MySpace page. Gaugh called the defendant in that case “the dumbest animal on the planet.”

Muse debuted their new video for “Undisclosed Desires” on MySpace today as part of New Moon’s musical invasion of the site. Interestingly, though, “Undisclosed Desires” is not the Muse song that appears on the movie’s soundtrack — that’s “I Belong to You (New Moon Remix)” — and you won’t get a glimpse of Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart in the clip. What you do get, though, is Matt Bellamy and Co. belting out their INXS-esque track from The Resistance and a whole lot of tangled instrument cables.

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor has finally confirmed rumors that he tried out for Velvet Revolver’s vacant lead singer slot, telling Altitude TV, “I had a meeting with those guys, we did some demos together, and it just didn’t work — for whatever reason.”

Since Scott Weiland’s departure from Velvet Revolver in April 2008, everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Sebastian Bach to Chris Cornell to obscure Canadian singers have been rumored to be the permanent fill-in for VR, but Taylor is among the first to reveal that he actually tried out for the job.

“It was just really cool. It was one of those things where it’s like I could have got to jam with legends, man, in my opinion,” Taylor said, adding that he’s still on good terms with the band. Slash had previously said in passing that Taylor had worked with VR, and while it seemed like Taylor might take over as lead vocalist, the band decided against it, Blabbermouth writes.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, even though Slash is currently hard at work at his own solo album, he’s still devoted to the singer search. “We (VR) know the right guy is out there somewhere,” Slash wrote in a MySpace post in August 2009. “It’s possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world.”

Rob Zombie’s North American trek kicked off last Thursday (October 29) in Phoenix, Arizona. The singer is performing with the same band that toured behind his 2006 CD, “Educated Horses”, consisting of guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D. and drummer Tommy Clufetos.

Zombie said on a conference call with reporters last week that fans can expect surprises in both the set list and stage production on the current trek. “We have a lot of new things this time, you know,” he said. “We didn’t want to go out and just do the same old show, so we’ve dug deep and we’ve kind of tried to mix it up. You know, there’s always the obvious songs that you have to play for people that they want to hear, but we’re actually going back and we’re grabbing some songs that I’ve actually never played live ever. And as far as the stage show, there’s been some pretty incredible advancements in digital technology, so we have a pretty high-tech show going on. It’s pretty awesome.”

It was announced late Wednesday (October 28) that Zombie has left Geffen Records, his label home for 18 years, and signed a new deal with Roadrunner Records’ Loud & Proud imprint. The label will release his new album, “Hellbilly Deluxe 2″, in early 2010.

Zombie sold more than 15 million records on Geffen as a solo artist and with WHITE ZOMBIE. He said in a statement, “It certainly wasn’t an easy decision to make after all this time, but it had to be done. I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label. Roadrunner seems to be the perfect place.”

Geffen was initially supposed to issue “Hellbilly Deluxe 2″ on November 17. It was abruptly yanked from that date, with sources saying that Zombie was at odds with his longtime label.

The singer also said he “toyed with” the idea of bringing out the original “Hellbilly Deluxe” stage set from 1998, but decided in favor of an updated version.

In October 2008, Malakian announced via SCARS ON BROADWAY’s web site that the band’s headlining tour — which included an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” — was being cancelled, with no plans of rescheduling. Malakian cited his lack of enthusiasm and “his heart not being into touring” as the chief reasons behind the decision to call off the trek. “The music of SCARS will live on, but now is a time when aspects of my life need to be tended to,” he said in a statement.

SCARS ON BROADWAY sold just under 24,000 copies of its self-titled debut album in the United States during its first week of release to debut at position No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number represented roughly 36 percent of the 66,000 opening tally registered by “Elect the Dead”, the debut solo effort from SYSTEM OF A DOWN lead singer Serj Tankian, which came out in the fall of 2007 through the Warner Music Group.

“Scars On Broadway” has shifted just 78,000 copies in the United States since its July 29, 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Apparently tired of the criticism and negative reception of his latest solo album Scream, Chris Cornell will reportedly re-record the entire album with more of a guitar driven rock sound. The Timbaland produced album was poorly received by hard-core Cornell fans and was largely ignored by the general public, with the Soundgarden and Audioslave singer releasing a record featuring club beats and pop production.

The record debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart when it was released in March, but plummeted 55 places in its second week and was off the 200 after 10 weeks. Explore Music is reporting that musicians such as Jordan Zadorozny, from indie band Blinker The Star, have been reworking Scream’s tracks to have more of a rock style.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that Cornell staunchly supported the release when interviewed earlier this year.

“As a songwriter and creative person, I have to do what makes me happy,” Cornell told Alternative Addiction during an interview in March. “That changes; it goes into different worlds,” Cornell explained. “Sometimes its going to be in the world that those core fans of my earlier period love, and sometimes it won’t.”

Cornell defended his unlikely pairing with Timbaland, explaining that the chance to take a fresh approach was really the reason he was making a solo record in the first place.

“I sort of thought, well why not? That’s sort of why I am a solo artist – so I can do anything I want, when I want. That was really all the thought that went into it.”

Obviously Cornell has had second thoughts about that decision, leading Cornell to ultimately re-record the entire album. A new rock version of the track “Never Far Away” has been released, you can listen to both versions below:

Legendary hard rock drummer Chuck Biscuits (born Charles Montgomery), whose lengthy résumé includes stints in such flagship underground acts as Black Flag and Social Distortion, appears to have been the victim of a death hoax involving a Facebook page and several months’ worth of correspondence from someone claiming to be Chuck. (More information can be found on the blog of James Greene, Jr., a freelance music writer from Brooklyn, New York.)

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada’s The Straight contacted Biscuits’ former bandmate Joey Keithley, singer-guitarist of D.O.A. He confirmed that Biscuits is very much alive. BrooklynVegan also received word that Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks has refuted reports of Chuck’s passing.

A person using the e-mail address that was previously believed to have been utilized by Biscuits sent out an e-mail Tuesday morning (October 27) claiming that Chuck, who is 44 years old, died on October 24 after a prolonged battle with throat cancer.

“In response to the inquires, thank you for all the support,” the e-mail stated. “Chuck did not survive his battle with throat cancer. He passed surrounded by his family on 10/24/09.”

Since the original death story went viral, several people (including former Danzig bassist Eerie Von and Chuck’s brother Bob Montgomery, who was apparently “somewhat estranged” from Biscuits for a time) have openly questioned the reports of Chuck’s passing. It is also being claimed that Biscuits was seen at work earlier today and that he is “pissed off” about the rumors of his demise. As of this writing, however, he has yet to come forward and pubicly confirm that he is alive and well.

Chuck Biscuits is probably best known for his work with Danzig. Beginning in 1988, Chuck played on that group’s first four albums, which are often hailed as Danzig’s best (thanks in no small part to Chuck’s powerful drumming style). The percussionist also appeared on 1993’s “Thrall: Demonsweatlive” EP; that release yielded an unexpected chart-burning hit for Danzig in “Mother” a song the band originally included on their self-titled debut.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced plans for their new album.

The band, who are currently working on a follow-up to 2006’s ‘Stadium Arcadium’, have revealed that a new album could be released by October 2010.

“We’re gonna write for a while, it usually takes us a while,” drummer Chad Smith told Clash Magazine, before speculating that a release date for the album would be “sometime next year, maybe this time [next year]“.

Also asked if Flea’s experience working with Thom Yorke might affect the band’s new material, Smith said the bassist had given him a CD of electronic beats to inspire him but that, at the moment, there wasn’t an explicit electronic direction.

“You never know. We’ve got songs with piano on them right now,” he added.

In an August interview, Smith said the band were “ready” to return to the studio following their break.

As previously reported, Red Hot Chili Peppers are amongst the acts to make the shortlist for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

“It’s a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility” said Chad. “Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste.”

Foo Fighters have teamed up with Facebook to stream a show live on the social-networking website.

As the rockers are releasing their ‘Greatest Hits’ album on November 2, they’ll celebrate by performing live from their own Studio 606 in California on Friday (October 30).

AFI have just released a video performance from this Weekend’s Ulalume Festival in Columbia, Maryland. The clip can be seen on Mtvu.com. The video showcases an energetic performance of “Beautiful Thieves” to thousands of adoring fans. “Beautiful Thieves” is a new track off of the critically acclaimed album Crash Love, which is available everywhere now.

MTV has also posted an exclusive set of recent photos of the band that feature Davey Havok and co looking their sharpest.

The Ulalume Festival was an all day Halloween themed festival that saw Paramore co-headline with AFI. Other artist’s of note that performed were Dead By Sunrise and Kid Cudi.

30 Seconds To Mars are filming a video for the track ‘Kings And Queens’ in and around Los Angeles.

MTV recently went on set with the band as they filmed a segment with a load of fixed gear bikers riding through the streets at night and frontman Jared Leto explained the idea behind the sequence:

“I think this city is a beautiful place at night, and we have these empty streets, and it’s kind of a haunting, forgotten landscape … very serene,” the singer said. “It’s about reclaiming public spaces. It’s been an incredible adventure, but it’s also been really difficult, because there are so many people, and we’re shutting down streets of Los Angeles, downtown, bridges, some tunnels, Hollywood Boulevard, Santa Monica Pier, we’ll be up on Mulholland [Drive], overlooking the city.

But the idea, the night rides, I just had some friends that were doing Critical Mass and Crank Mob and People’s Ride in L.A. And it’s that sort of serendipitous thing, where people started talking to me about it in my life, and then my friend got a fixed gear, and then another friend of mine got a fixed gear. I thought the world was really interesting, and I thought it would be a really beautiful backdrop for the video.”

Smashing Pumpkins will make their new album, Teargarden By Kaleidyscope, available for free via the internet a track at a time.

The record is reportedly made up of 44 songs and the first track could be available online as early as the end of this month.

“I want no limitations on what I can, and will do,” said frontman and sole original member Billy Corgan. “I think the size and shape of the traditional album is just morphing into something much more in the moment.

The tracks will also be released as 11 four song EPs at a later date.

“Four songs at a time will mean I can give my heart over to the music fully without giving away my now happy life,” Corgan added.

The move follows Nine Inch Nails who released two albums (Ghosts I-IV and The Slip) digitally via their website in March and May 2008 respectively, and British rock band Ash, who are releasing 26 singles over the next 12 months.

Atlanta’s SEVENDUST has entered Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, Illinois with producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, STAIND, MACHINE HEAD) to begin recording its new album for an early 2010 release.

The first two in a series of video updates documenting the making of the new CD can be viewed below.

Prior to hooking up with Johnny K for the new album recording sessions, SEVENDUST spent time writing and recording demos with Corey Lowery (former member of DARK NEW DAY, STEREOMUD and STUCK MOJO and brother of SEVENDUST guitarist Clint Lowery) engineering.

Regarding the band’s producer choice and new material, SEVENDUST said in a statement, “We’ve enjoyed [Johnny K's] work over the years and believe he is the guy for the job.

“This record is VERY important and we have some of the best songs going into this process than we ever have.

“We read [the fans'] comments [online] and we believe [they] will not be disappointed. We still have a ways to go but we hope to have [the new CD] out by spring next year.”

SEVENDUST released a very limited-edition box set in November 2008 entitled “Packaged Goods”. Each five-disc set was personally autographed by the entire band. The box set included SEVENDUST’s 2005 release “Next”, 2007’s “Alpha”, 2007’s “Retrospective 2″ (CD + DVD), and 2008’s “Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow”.

SEVENDUST’s last album, “Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow” (7Bros/Asylum), came out in April 2008. The CD sold 25,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release to land at position No. 19 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Las Vegas rockers, Adelitas Way will hit the road with Breaking Benjamin this winter in support of their self-titled debut, which released July 14th on Virgin/EMI Music and debuted at #16 on Billboard’s Top New Artist Chart. The tour will kick off in San Antonio, TX on Sunday, November 29 and will include a number of radio holiday shows through of Midwest.

The album’s kick off single, the power-rock anthem “Invincible,” has earned #1 Regional Heatseekers in this week’s Billboard and has climbed to top 10 on the Active Rock radio chart. “Invincible” has already been tagged as WWE Superstars theme song, been used for spots promoting the 2009 season of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN and will be used in the new WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2010 Video Game, which hits stores October 20. Since then, the single has been streamed nearly 300,000 times on Adelitas Way’s MySpace page.

According to EW.com, Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE) and Jerry Cantrell (ALICE IN CHAINS) made an appearance on stage last night (Tuesday, October 6) at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles for the third of four local PEARL JAM shows. Cornell joined Eddie Vedder for “Hunger Strike”, thus reforming the complete lineup of Andrew Wood/MOTHER LOVE BONE tribute band TEMPLE OF THE DOG. Cantrell then hopped on stage to close out the night with the guitar solo on “Alive”. A posting on the site adds, “When Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Matt Cameron, Jerry Cantrell, and Chris Cornell took a bow arm in arm at the end of the show, it was the sort of rock ‘n’ roll reunion you pray for as a fan, and, thankfully, it was executed with the sort of musical integrity that makes you glad you took the time in the first place.”

“Beautiful And Strange”, a brand new song from MUDVAYNE, is available for streaming on the band’s MySpace page. The song will appear on the group’s new self-titled album, which is due on December 22 via Epic. The artwork for the CD will be printed entirely in blacklight-reactive ink (see video below), making it only visible under a black light (a source of light whose wavelengths are primarily in the ultraviolet).

“Mudvayne” has been described by drummer Matt McDonough as “the best” CD “the band has recorded since our second album, ‘The End Of All Things to Come’.” The effort will be released in three different formats — a standard jewel case edition, a deluxe version packaged with a black light and a super deluxe edition that features a larger black light, a special edition blacklight-reactive poster and more.

MUDVAYNE’s forthcoming album was produced by Dave Fortman’s (SLIPKNOT, EVANESCENCE) right-hand man, Jeremy Parker, and is “a little more retro for MUDVAYNE” from a songwriting point of view, according to singer Chad Gray. “We’ve been kind of making this natural progression, and I think for this one, we just sort of naturally regressed,” he told Noisecreep. “We took the smarter songwriting guys that we’ve become and mixed it with the not-smart songwriting guys that we were … I mean, we used to just take 20 parts, cram it together, and call it a song. Over time, playing in a band, you kind of know what to expect. It doesn’t really make it easier, but you kind of have this thing in your head that you kind of know where you’re going. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel before entering the tunnel. It’s faint, and dim, but it’s there.”

MUDVAYNE’s fourth studio album, “The New Game”, has sold more than 200,000 copies in the United States since it came out in November 2008, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD shifted 48,000 units in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Double Grammy-nominated rockers Buckcherry have unleashed their first ever live album, Live & Loud 2009. The album features the band’s biggest hits like “Sorry” (#2 on Billboard’s Hot AC chart), “Crazy Bitch” (#3, Mainstream Rock), “Lit Up” (#1, Mainstream Rock), “Ridin’” (#9, Mainstream Rock), “Everything” (#5, Active Rock), and songs from the band’s current hit album Black Butterfly.

In putting the live album together culled from a week of Canadian shows this Spring, singer Josh Todd explains, “We are at our best at a live show so we wanted to capture what this band is all about live.” Guitarist Keith Nelson adds, “We set out to give fans an accurate representation of a great night out at a Buckcherry show.”

Jordan Wagner of Premier Guitar magazine conducted an interview with ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell on September 20, 2009 at the Rave/Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cantrell discusses the band’s new album and his current gear used on the ongoing “Black Gives Way To Blue” tour. Watch the seven-minute chat below.

The video for “Wheels,” the Foo Fighters’ first single off their upcoming best-of collection Greatest Hits, debuted over at MTV.com. Like the band’s clip for “The Pretender,” also directed by Sam Brown, “Wheels” is a low-key affair, with Dave Grohl and the gang simply performing in the studio. It’s a far cry from those fun Foo videos of yore: the faux Mentos commercials and the fever dreams with giant hands and Tenacious D wreaking havoc on an airplane.

“Wheels” rejoins Grohl with the producer who helped thrust his former band into the mainstream, Butch Vig, but their collaboration 18 years later is far removed from anything that would appear on Nevermind. “Wheels” finds the Foo at their most adult contemporary since “Big Me,” a track that seems like it was snatched off Bon Jovi’s Lost Highway. Maybe Grohl is just saving his energy, considering he’ll likely spend the better part of the next few months back behind the drums with his supergroup side project Them Crooked Vultures.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, Greatest Hits will feature one more Vig-produced new song, dubbed “Word Forward,” plus 14 more of the Grammy-winning band’s biggest hits. The deluxe version of GH will come with a bonus DVD featuring all those Foo music videos, including “Wheels,” plus some live performance footage. The collection is due out November 3rd.

In their first late-night network performance in more than 10 years, ALICE IN CHAINS appeared last night (Tuesday, September 29) on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. The much-buzzed-about event kicked off on the Bud Light Outdoor Stage — the largest outdoor stage among the late night talk shows — with an electrifying performance in the middle of Hollywood.

On Wednesday, September 30, ALICE IN CHAINS will perform a special intimate acoustic set on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”’s indoor lobby stage. The performance will once again include one song from new album “Black Gives Way to Blue” and one classic hit. The September 30 show will spotlight new acoustic track, “Your Decision”.

ALICE IN CHAINS’s new album, “Black Gives Way to Blue”, was officially released yesterday. The CD was recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH) at the Northridge, California studio of FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

Members of Guns N’ Roses, Weezer, Jane’s Addiction and MC5 were among the artists to perform at a benefit concert was held this weekend, September 26th at Los Angeles’ The Roxy to help raise money for Scott Ford, a bassist from the Twilight Singers and a founding member of the all-star Camp Freddy. Ford recently underwent surgery to have his teeth pulled out due to a periodontal condition that was poisoning his system and threatened to give Ford a heart attack if action wasn’t taken. The procedure cost $50,000, and left Ford bankrupt and barely able to talk.

To help their friend pay his medical bills, Duff McKagan, Dave Navarro, Greg Dulli, Weezer’s Scott Shriner, MC5’s Wayne Kramer, Velvet Revolver’s Dave Kushner, Donovan Leitch, the Cult’s Billy Morrison and many more staged a concert in Ford’s honor to help raise the funds. Thus far, Ford has raised $8,000 through his Scott Ford Radio site, which features a link for further donations. “Thank you to all you generous folks who have the heart to help out a musician with no health insurance, I really appreciate it,” Ford writes.

“Hello Everyone,

It is really hard to say this, but Ian has left Inept and got a job with the band RED doing merch and lights for them. After we were notified of his decision to leave the band we sat down and all talked about everything we have going on and how much we love music still but we’ve decided that the end has come for Inept. Through many many years of hard work, dedication, we’ve decided that it was time for Inept to throw in the towel. We’ve put everything we’ve had into this band, given up going to college, friendships, awesome jobs, and more just to rock for you every single night we possibly could, and we loved every second of it, but The truth of the matter is that we as a whole have never been able to find guys that were as dedicated of musicians as the ones that are still in this band. Through constant member changes and such Inept just didn’t feel right anymore. However, don’t think for one second that we are done making music. This is not goodbye, this just a “see ya later.” some of us are working on new projects and coming out with some new stuff in 2010. We would personally like to thank every single one of you who attended a show, bought merch, listened to our music and supported our band. You guys mean the world to us and we will never ever forget that. We will be playing a few final shows to end out the year and then a grand finale @ Metro when we can get a secure date. Please come out to reggies on October 17th and hang out with us, we will be doing a few songs by request of you guys, so let us know what you want to hear and we’ll make it happen.

The White Stripes “Under Great White Northern Lights” tour documentary has debuted at the Toronto International film festival.

The film, which was directed by video director Emmett Malloy, chronicles Jack and Meg White’s 2007 tour of Canada.

Capturing the duo’s gigs at several atypical venues including bowling alleys, boats and city buses. It also features the band’s 10th anniversary show at the Savoy Theater in Nova Scotia and their famous one-note show in New Foundland.

“The idea was there was this gigantic frontier right next to where we grew up in Detroit that is just so untouched by our band, let alone bands in general,” Jack White said at a press conference but was quick to point out “I’m not too big of a reality TV show fan or peek-behind-the-curtains fan, especially in this day and age — there’s so much of that going on and there’s so little mystery about the world of music and creativity.”

During the film the duo eat raw caribou, meet tribal elders, walk along frozen tundra, don traditional kilts and even fire a canon.

“We were rolling into towns where a lot of people didn’t know who they were or what was going on. They just knew something big was going on in their small town and I think Jack and Meg knew that,” said director Emmett Malloy to Rolling Stone.

30 Seconds to Mars are gearing up for the release of their new album, titled This Is War. The album, which the band spent over a year and a half making, is due out Nov 24th.

The band’s rocky relationship with their label home at Virgin Records has been well documented, when the label filed a lawsuit against the band last summer, claiming the band refused to deliver three albums as required by its contract. The album’s title was rumored to be specifically about the band’s troubles with their label, but in a recent interview with Buzznet, lead singer Jared Leto said the album’s title was about much more.

“It’s representative of the battles that we were fighting, us with the record label, creative battles, personal demons,” Leto said. “We’ve discussed, like, is it relevant anymore? Some of the battles – obviously the creative, and the battles with the record label, have all come to pass, but I think it really still represents this record in the best way possible, so we’re sticking with This Is War…. It represents too clearly this period of time in our lives.”

He added that the title does not have to literally refer to any specific fight. “Also come the ideas about winning, ideas about compromise, about defeat, victory of course. But I think as I’ve tossed it around, it’s always been the working title for the record as well, This Is War, so it’s been important because I think it really represented the goal in a good way, a strong way.”

Prior to the album’s release on Oct. 20th, the band will be accepting cover art submissions from fans at their website http://www.thirtysecondstomars.com. The first 2,000 images submitted will be used as special edition cover art for the album.

Stone Temple Pilots have announced a tour of North America which starts next month with an appearance at Bayfest in Alabama.

The band have been working on their sixth studio album, their first since 2001’s “Shangri-La-Dee-Da”, which is set for release sometime in early 2010 although contractual disputes between the band and Atlantic Records are ongoing, reports Blabbermouth.

In the mean time frontman Scott Weiland who recently had a seizure on a flight from Los Angeles to Miami, has been touring in support of his second solo album “Happy In Galoshes”.
