The Philadelphia Experiment (PEX) is excited to announce the Second Annual PEX Summer Festival July 1st- 5th in Darlington, Maryland, (1 hour from Philly and Baltimore, 90 minutes from DC, and 3 hours from NYC).

The festival will be hosted on 200 private acres overlooking the Susquehanna River with over 100 performers, bands, DJs, speakers and workshops.

Amenities include Multiple Stages, Swimming Pool, Ropes Course, Fire & Drum Circles, Catered Meals, Cabins, Tent & Car Camping, Sport Courts, and Saturday Night BBQ & Effigy Burn.

PEX Summer Festival is a participatory experience. Art is desired in every dimension! Bring your ideas, innovations, unique visions and creativity and help us to explore the depths of who we really are! We are inviting artists, performers, sculptors, musicians, dancers, builders, and creative people of all types! June 1st is the Deadline for guide submissions.

PEX Summer Festival is pleased to announce the availability of art grants intended to help defray the costs of materials and transportation related to creating and presenting works of art at the PEX Summer Festival. The deadline for applications April 30th.

Some of you may know that the creator of BUILT 2 BURN is also one of three artists that makeup the ANIMUS Arts Collective, which is Annie Vainchenker, David Ort and Preston Dane.

This year ANIMUS is creating The Honey Trap, the two central themes of “The Honey Trap” are the merits and disadvantages of big cities, as well as the inherent relationships between architecture and nature.   Whereas some might consider a metropolis unnatural, “The Honey Trap”  attempts to represent the similarities between what we humans do as a population, and an instance of a metropolis in the animal world.  The overall composition of “The Honey Trap” is a Fibonacci spiral.  In mathematics, this spiral is based on a sequence of numbers known as the Golden Ratio. The structure is made out of interlocking honeycombs, and each individual cell of the honeycomb is large enough to hold one seated person.  Simultaneously, and conversely, the cells being stacked together are an allusion to the coming together of individuals.  They represent the literal and figurative “building up” of a city, a society, and a community.

Honey Trap & Fibonacci Necklace

Today’s creation station is focused on Playa Boots.

Take any pair of shoes, make sure to break them in, new shoes can be rather uncomfortable in the desert. A fast way to dress up shoes to match your look is spray paint and accessories.

- In an open space take your shoes and fill the inside of the shoes with newspaper, this will help keep the inside of your boots dry and paint free. Otherwise it will take a long time for the inside to dry.

- Be sure to spray your boots twice, this will give a really great coverage and make your boots look brand new. Leave ample drying time between spraying sessions.

- When your boots are dry, you can take a paint brush to them and add your own design. You can also cut out shapes and spray paint over that with another color, leaving some really cool printed boots. think about using really cool lace or fishnet to create easy designs.

- Then I like to add mirror plexi with E600 glue or something stronger, this is pretty toxic glue so protect your hands with proper gloves and wear a respirator.  Work in an open and ventilated space.

- Add some funky colorful laces, and you are done!

COSTS:

Boots $20 in a flee market, Spray paint $12 at your local hardware store, Mirror Plexi found an old disco ball and stripped it of it’s lights – Total Cost $32

When you are done your boots may end up looking like this….
