The wedding and reception was at Grace Fellowship Church. After their crazy send off (be sure you see below), we followed the newlyweds to Stonehurst Place for a few extra shots. Thanks to Melissa for your help.

I’ve known Carol for quite a few years mainly through her son Joel– we went to the same high school and the same church since my middle school days. Even my wife has been friends with Joel for probably the same amount of time. Of course I was so happy when Carol asked me to photograph her wedding. It was a super laid back day and everything went so smoothly.

One of the coolest things of the day were the emotions on everyone’s faces when Joel arrived– he has moved Australia and this was the first time he’s been back in over a year!

I was connected with Mickey through a former wedding client, Margaret Reynolds, who works at Mickey’s studio. Mickey recently created an eco-friendly jewelry line exclusively for sororities and was in search of lifestyle promotional material. I was both honored and excited by Margaret’s referral. I really didn’t know what all was going down for the shoot or what to expect.

I met Mickey and her partner Seth for the first time the day of the shoot– they are so awesome and were such a pleasure to work with. They recruited five sorority girls from Georgia State to help out as models and they did a great job. They were able to take direction and look natural doing so. Everything went so smoothly and after a couple hours of shooting (when the sun set) we got some great shots.

I had a great time with Mary Heather and Brandon. They were relaxed and fun-loving, which can be pretty contagious especially on busy wedding days. While the bridesmaids were getting dressed, I borrowed Mary Heather’s dress for one of my first images of the day. I was really digging the space you see in the first image below (what would you call that? atrium… lobby… open area? ;) ) and thought it’d be perfect for a really dramatic dress shot.

I love the emotion here– such a joyful smile on her mom’s face.

I think this makes my top 5 favorite cake shots. This made an awesome spread in their wedding album.

Darlene & Jerome had such an intimate wedding with their closest family and friends, I think there were around 30 guests.  The ceremony was outside (thankfully it didn’t rain.. there were some questionable clouds above) and included the unity sand pouring. Shortly after the ceremony when I was spending some “alone time” with the happy couple in the vineyard, the sun was starting to set which provided incredible color.

They had their reception in the Cask Room… A-mazing space. It fit perfectly with the whole feel of Darlene & Jerome’s wedding– it’s an intimate room that seats a limited amount of people. It’s a simple yet elegant room.

I was given the responsibility of providing the mock formals (as I called them) for the event. So I set up a lovely, but oh so tacky, background, let the students do their thing, and took some shots.

It was incredible to see the enthusiasm and creativity of all the kids. I had so much fun taking their pictures and loved all the crazy outfits!

If you didn’t know, the “jump” shot is all the rage these days. Well… it’s been all the rage for a while now. Don’t know what I’m talking about? You’ll see.

I don’t get to do portrait session very often, so when my friend asked if I’d be willing to take pictures for her family I jumped on the opportunity. We chose the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia because it absolutely rocks! In fact, I got married at the Day Chapel located in the gardens. When my wife was in school at UGA, she spent a lot of time just hanging out in the gardens. So it is a very special place for us. We loved getting a chance to go back. Though the weather wasn’t perfect, the rain held off enough for us to get some great shots outside.

The entire Childs family is crazy fun to be around. Such goofy, fun loving, and likable folk :). I’ve known Kathryne (the oldest child… not to be mistaken with oldest Childs) for several years. We go to the same church and the first time I recall meeting her was on a trip we both took to Peru in high school.

If you get a chance and you are in the Athens, GA area, be sure to visit the Botanical Gardens.

Okay, Okay… that all was a long and sort of not really maybe slightly related introduction to the following.

I’ve started a new blog that is completely unrelated to the world of wedding photography. It’s a Food/Beverage type blog mainly created so I can keep notes and thoughts on different things I’ve tried– an experience log perhaps. I don’t have  intentions of it being an internet sensation, but shucks that sure would be swell ;). However, I do hope that it will be valuable to someone out there.
