Amos 5: 21-24

“I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects,
your pretentious slogans and goals.
I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
That’s what I want. That’s all I want.”

Savannah is a different breed of cities. It has one of the largest homosexual populations in the country, it is home to one of the most prestigous art/design colleges in the world, it is best known for its crazy St. Patrick’s Day party, and yet at it’s deepest roots it played a huge role in the Christian church and the beginning of the protestant church in America.

It is a city that has had seeds planted by many of the biggest names in Christian history. John Wesley, the Moravians, and many others have come to Savannah seeking revival. The history of the church in this city is remarkable and I truly believe that at this moment the seeds planted back in those days are about to take root and bear fruit.

8 months ago I moved to Savannah from rural Georgia to get a foot in the door. I began a short stint at a suburban pentacostal church (The Lake Church) as their media director and am in the process of helping them get ready for their new state-of-the-art building. While helping TLC I have continued my work with the company Shift Creative and been planning a church plant with my friend Jim Simpson. Some recent events have pushed up the date for this plant and that is why I am writing this blog.

In early May I will be a part of an exciting new church in Savannah. This church will be a modern multi-generational church that uses media, relevant teachings, and passionate worship to help tell the story of God in a creative way to a creative generation. It will be an outward focused church that truly seeks to love the city of Savannah into a relationship with God.

Right now it is a nameless and buildingless church that is just the vision and passion of a handful of people who have a heart for Savannah. As the weeks and months get closer we will finalize a name, location, website, service times, and all the other details. We will also be sending out letters, emails, facebook blasts, twitter posts, texts, phone calls, and whatever else it takes to get donations to fund this huge undertaking.

Between now and early May I will continue to help TLC  and even after the church plant I hope to be a part of everything awesome going on. Pastor Reyes and Pastor Brandon and the whole leadership team have been a great team to work with and I plan on helping out and hanging around whenever possible. I also will continue to travel with Brandon and the Warfare worship band running all of his media stuff whenever I am needed.

It all has lead up to this!

It’s been 6 months or so since I’ve been to Ohio so I’ve had some people ask how much free time I’ll have and what my plans are… here are the plans as of now…

Nov 21 – Driving from Savannah to Beavercreek
Nov 22 – Head south to Cincinnati for church at The Vineyard, lunch at Skyline, and taking Amber to a few points of interest around Cincinnati (Jungle Jims, Newport, Downtown, etc)
Nov 23 – Hanging out around the Dayton/Beavercreek area
Nov 24 – Hanging out around the Dayton/Beavercreek area
Nov 25 – Heading to Zanesville, Ohio or Wheeling, WV with my family to meet up with my brother Jonathan
Nov 26 – Heading to Lodi, Ohio (near Cleveland) to meet up with family for Thanksgiving
Nov 27 – Hanging out and shopping around the Dayton/Beavercreek area
Nov 28 – Driving from Beavercreek to Savannah

There’s a lot coming up in the next 6-8 months here in Savannah and with travels. I am on a team that is planning a new church plant downtown, I am running media for a growing church that is getting ready to move into a brand new state-of-the-art building, I am travelling with and running media for a worship band that has a lot of big events coming up, I am designing graphics and websites and videos for my company Shift Creative, and on top of that I am dating and trying to spend as much time as possible with girlfriend Amber who has been by my side through all these adventures.

There are a lot of things that aren’t public knowledge yet that I can’t share but here is a tentative schedule of what I’m doing over the next few months:

November 21-28: Ohio trip with Amber for Thanksgiving
December 7-12: St. Louis trip with Amber
December 14-17: Possible Trip to The Ramp in Alabama
December 18: Lake Church Christmas Banquet in Savannah
December 21-30: Ohio trip for Christmas
December 31- Lake Church New Year’s Eve event in Savannah
January 20-21: Possible trip to Virginia for Mali Music DVD recording (Warfare is opening)
February: few possible events
March 26-28: Warfare is possibly playing at Sonfest in Orlando, Florida
May 9: Big event in Savannah… details soon!
Summer of 2010: Possible week of camp in Florida with Warfare (doing media), possible huge event in Missouri with Warfare, and more that I’ll share later!

So as you can see things will be busy! Can’t wait to see all you Ohio friends soon!

Part 1 of the huge news is that the video myself and Brandon made famous through Facebook and twitter (shane sings 5 octaves on piano) will be featured on the comedy central show tosh.0 this week! 10pm on Comedy Central this Thursday! Maybe they’ll even throw a shout out to me?!!?!?!??!?

Brandon and I are working hard to help someone become famous. His name is Shane Lee and he posted a video on youtube called “Shane sings 5 octaves on piano” and we ended up finding it. We posted it on Facebook and our friends posted it on their facebook and now its an international youtube hit! Over 300,000 people have viewed the video… when we first posted it that number was 700…

Last Friday we found out that our landlord (Michael Parker) was going to be selling the property we were renting so we would have to move out. Yesterday Brandon and Michael talked and looked at some properties and found a nice little house in Pooler. It’s a three bedroom place with a bigger kitchen, full fenced in backyard (that is big enough to have  pool), a fireplace, and it is not next to a crack house!

I guess we move in sometime in the next few weeks… I’ll let you all know when I get my new mailing address and all.

First of all lets go back to the week my parents were in town… it was great being able to see and hang out with them and it was cool having them meet Amber and get to know her! I’m not too happy with all the embarassing stories they shared with her but it wasn’t anything too horrible!

They left on Friday the 11th which gave me a few  short hours to finish up everything for Reverse Rebellion on the 12th. Then on the 13th Southside had Eddie James in for morning worship and evening worship which was amazing! After that I had a decently normal week until Saturday when Amber and I went to Carowinds to see Skillet and BarlowGirl and Superchick.

Then yesterday (Monday) I headed to Baxley to meet with Jim and Cory about ministry stuff and left around 11pm. I got back to Richmond Hill and was driving past the high school when I got pulled over. Apparently the first 30 feet of that road it is 35 before it turns into 45.. I was clocked going 43 in the 35 so the officer took my info and went back to fill out paperwork. I guess during that time a more urgent call came in and he just left. He never told me it was just going to be a warning or nothing…. so I waited a few minutes and then called the police department. The dispatcher radio’ed the officer and he said I wasn’t going to get a ticket and I was free to leave. It was just a weird incident… but I’m glad I didn’t get a ticket!

Anyways today is a pretty somber day here in the church office as one of our members, Mama J, passed away after battling sickness. Just pray for her family/friends and our church family… thanks!
