Yesterday, David Vitter insisted that former aide Brent Furer was not assigned to “women’s issues” after being arrested for domestic violence. Sure, there are the numerous congressional directories that list Furer as his “legislative assistant on women’s issues,” as Talking Points Memo reports — but it’s all one big misunderstanding. You see, as Vitter told reporters today in the video below, Furer was actually assigned to “abortion” issues, not “women’s issues.”

Dr. George Klopfer says in court documents that after the lawsuit was filed in May he got a call at his home during which a man threatened to “blow my brains out.”

The case of the girl from Alagoinha is only one of many incidents that happen every day, which are not in the news and exposed in such an astounding manner as this. According to the System of Information on Live Births (SINASC), from 2000 to 2006, 10,860 girls aged from 10 to 14 gave birth in the public and private health systems of our state. This little girl´s pregnancy has to do with the situation of social vulnerability, lack of information and access to health care, as well as the prominence of sexual violence. How many girls are, at this moment, in need of information, care, shelter and access to quality health care?

There is no “common ground” in legal terms in abortion, nor will there, or should there be. Abortion is legal, and is likely to remain that way, as more than 50% of Americans believe that abortion should be legal, and nearly 75% believe it should be legal in the case of rape/incest/violence. So, while revoking abortion may appeal to a base, the fact it, it’s not a political winner.

That being that case I wonder why the fetishers of the foetuses are willing to subject them to potentially harmful ultrasound tests? Oh well just further evidence this has nothing to do with the foetus and everything to do with the control of women.

Three randomised controlled trials of Doppler Sound, the powerful form of ultrasound now used in most hospitals, have found an up to fourfold increase in perinatal (just before or after birth) deaths. [1] One large study found 20 miscarriages in the group given ultrasound scans, but none in the group which was not. [2] Another reported a doubling of pre-term labour in the scanned group. [3] Another linked ultrasound scanning to retardation of the baby’s growth in the womb. [4]

Animal-based studies suggest that there may be subtler effects which have, to date, not been measured in humans. Monkeys repeatedly exposed to ultrasound showed clear behavioural problems, such as social withdrawal. Another study which exposed monkeys to ultrasound found evidence of low body weight and poor muscle tone.

Experiments with guinea pigs showed that ultrasound scanning could raise the temperature of brain tissue near bone by as much as 5.1°C. [5] If the same occurs in human babies at the time the developing brain is at its most vulnerable (16 weeks old, when ultrasound scanning tends to be carried out), it is possible that vital cells could be damaged or destroyed with little possibility of replacement. This could lead to long-term neurological damage. [6] Changes in brain development sometimes lead to lefthandedness. [7] Not a problem in itself, but lefthandedness is linked to an increased risk of dyslexia, [8] learning difficulties [9] and speech delay. [10]

The video footage shows the Senator looking at emails on his computer while a fellow official speaks out against abortion.

Bennett is seen opening the attachment of an email and a picture of four women, three of them topless, pops up on his screen.

When questioned by The Sunshine State News about what he was doing Senator Bennett told the publication that he had no idea about the inappropriate nature of the picture.

“I was just sitting there, bored as they were debating the abortion bill. I opened it up and said holy [expletive]! What’s on my screen? and clicked away from it right away.”

Despite a veto by Governor Brad Henry, two bills restricting women’s rights have passed.

The first requires that women/girls watch an ultrasound while a tech points out every structure of the foetus this regardless of whether the woman/girl is a victim of rape or incest. Informed consent is so important to the anti-choicers of course. Or…maybe not so much.j

The second bill passed into law Tuesday protects doctors from malpractice suits if they decide not to inform the parents of a unborn baby that the fetus has birth defects. The intent of the bill is to prevent parents from later suing doctors who withhold information to try to influence them against having an abortion.

Oops there goes that all important informed consent. Wonder if in those cases they will deny women the right to see the ultrasound?

One would allow doctors to lie to women regarding the health and viability of their foetus, the other would force women to have an ultrasound and listen to details about the foetus, there is no exemption for rape or incest victims.

Governor Henry said;

“It would be unconscionable to subject rape and incest victims to such treatment,” adding “State policymakers should never mandate that a citizen be forced to undergo any medical procedure against his or her will, especially when such a procedure could cause physical or mental trauma. To do so amounts to an unconstitutional invasion of privacy.”

Lo tried to bring a restraining order against police to stop them from arresting him or doing him any harm as he planned to go to a clinic and “use deadly force to defend the innocent life of another human being”. He wrote in part,

My religious beliefs include the beliefs that an individual is alive at the moment of conception, abortion is murder and is the worst murder of all murders possible because these babies are completely defenseless, and I am entitled under my religious beliefs to use deadly force if necessary to save the innocent life of another.

Lo has also brought suit against the Supreme Court asking for damages of 999 trillion dollars and a salary of 1,000 an hour in attorney fees.

Lo has been charged with

one count of using interstate commerce to communicate a threat to injure and one count of threatening force to intimidate and interfere with clients and employees of a reproductive health service in order to intimidate that facility’s clients and employees from obtaining and providing reproductive health services.
