In my yearly tradition of turning to an Oscar expert I chat with Burt Burgbum about who he thinks will take home Oscars this Sunday evening. Burt is one of the pre-eminent movie critics on the East Coast of America and has great insight into the film industry. He also feels that there is a major injustice at this years Oscars with the total disregard of one of the actors in a Best Picture nominated movie. During this interview I was also lucky enough to meet Burt’s wife who you will hear. She was beautiful.

Terminator 2 villain Robert Patrick waterboards Denzel

Robert Patrick was apparently dead broke when James Cameron gave him the role as the villain in Terminator 2. That scene in the psycho ward still scares the crap out of me. He at times made Arnie look scared! In the movie Safehouse Robert plays a lead of a CIA extraction team. It’s a small role but effective on the big screen as he and Denzel go head to head in an interrogation that involves the method of water boarding.

Denzel Washington rarely makes a bad movie. And that is what I was thinking when I was watching Safehouse. In the age of counter terrorism shows like 24 and the brilliant Homeland, we are now home-experts in how the CIA operates. So in this move Safehouse there are moments we are one step ahead of what is going to happen. This small observation doesn’t curb the excitement when Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds are pitted against each other. Denzel also has a pretty awesome afro in this movie about a rogue CIA agent.
