Tried looking at my Nokia 5530 settings but did not get the proper settings until I’ve read this blog entry by Aice Lahora. And I think I’ve seen her at school..

Anyways, here is the catch. If you have email accounts registered in your mail app, you will be using the internet service. Mind you, it will cost around 15 pesos (not sure of this pricing though) for every 30 minutes and a minute is rounded off to 30 minutes (this is how telecom companies in the Philippines does the rounding off, if teachers used the same way, nobody will ever fail!). For this reason, I usually set my Edge and 3G services off all the time, except when I travel and need to use my phone as a GPS navigator.

Disclaimer: Use these settings at your own risk, which is paying thousands of pesos to a monthly bill because of playing with your iPhone. As if the price of the iPhone is not enough!!!

The settings are as listed below. Also make sure that the SIM you are using with your iPhone is already able to send and receive MMS as well as access the Internet when used with a Nokia or any other handset. Before using these settings, disable 3G service in your Settings, unless you are living in a city where 3G network is available for Sun Cellular.

Sun Cellular Internet and MMS Settings for iPhone 3Gs

Cellular Data

APN: minternet

Username: none

Password: leave blank

MMS

APN: mms

Username: none

Password: leave blank

MMSC: http://mmscenter.suncellular.com.ph

MMS Proxy: 202.138.159.78:8080

MSS Max Message Size: leave blank

MMS UA Prof URL: http://mmscenter.suncellular.com.ph

So that’s it. Turn off Wifi and leave Edge (or 3G if available) turned on. Try browsing in Safari. Also try sending an MMS message.

Hope this will be useful to those people who love their iPhone as I do.

Add: For those who want to activate their Voice Mail in iPhone 3Gs using SUN SIM, dial in your phone *5005*86*200# and press Call. Then try opening your Voice Mail, it should now ask you for the PIN.

Technorati Tags: mms/gprs/edge sun cellular iphone, iphone sun cellular settings, iphone sun cellular network settings, iphone sun cellular mms settings, iphone sun cellular internet settings, sun cellular iphone settings

It has the latest versions for both the iPhone and iPod, similar to what you can obtain if you would update your device using iTunes.

Aside from the free firmware download, the site also contain instructions on how to apply the firmware to your device.

Quick reminder to when using the firmware:

1. Use the firmware as exactly instructed in the site.

2. Make sure to identify your device properly so that you will download the right firmware. For the iPod touch and iPhone’s, make sure you know whether you have the first or second generations of the device. 1G is for the first generation iPhone and iPod and 2G for the second generation of the device.

3. Do note that when installing the firmware, you will loose all the data in your device. It would be better to perform a backup before doing the installation.

4. You can then jailbreak your iPod or iPhone after installing the firmware and doing the backup restore. The easiest way to jailbreak your device is by using blackra1n’s software.

5. If you want to go to the site where to download the firmware, just click the image above.

Technorati Tags: ipod iphone firmware download, ipod iphone ipsw downlad, ipsw download

Frankly, I had the same pain, took me more than an hour to configure everything properly, including the port forwarding options and DynDNS. So I’ve written a step by step guide on how to do this for you guys who’ve spent hours scouring the web to no avail.

I know you are eager to resolve your configuration issues but I encourage you to read the setup description below. It will give you an idea how things work. When you have everything figured out, I’m quite sure that the step-by-step guide will be easier to follow.

Hardware Setup. Above is a picture of my rig. As you can see, there are no ethernet cable attached to my wireless router except for my NAS (Network Attached Storage). Also, I’ve crimped a shorter cable to connect the modem (Ethernet port in the modem) to the wireless router (WAN port in the router). To make everything tidy, I used a mounting tape to stick the modem on top of my router and placed the rig behind a huge speaker. So, far, I haven’t experienced heating of both the modem and router as well as degraded data transfer rates even when the speaker in turned on. As I have configured quite a few of this rig, I’ve seen a router (Wireless N from Encore) that I immediately attached to the modem and everything worked like magic. Good thing for me the configuration went well without a glitch. If that’s what happened to you, you have the option to use or not this guide. But if you are experiencing internet connectivity and port forwarding issues you may continue reading and try the steps below.

Hardware Settings. The trick in configuring Globe’s ADSL modem to work with any wireless router in the market is to configure the darn thing properly. That means setting up the modem to use UPNP, setup the DCHP server (modem) to bind with the machine ID of your router to gain a Class 0 Static IP address for your router, and finally add the routers WAN IP Address to DMZ. This way, you will have to do the port forwarding in your router, not with the modem. For the router settings, you have to setup a Static IP for the WAN settings and use 192.168.1.2 as the IP Address, 255.255.255.0 for the Netmask, and 192.168.1.1 for the Gateway and Primary DNS Server. As for the LAN settings of the router, use 192.168.2.1 as the IP Address and 255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask. And finally, you need to properly configure port forwarding in the router. This is for those you have special connectivity needs – p2p that is…

Since the overview is done, it’s time to get to work. Now, I might not have presented everything clearly or even forgot some steps in this guide. If so, please post a comment in this blog entry. Everything is welcome here. Including comments in my grammar and typos.

Step-by-step Guide

Setting the Globe ADSL Modem

You might receive a different modem model from what I have (which is an Aztech ADSL Modem) but the setup is almost entirely the same. You need first to plug the modem to your laptop or desktop using the ethernet cable (usually the yellow cord that came with the package) and establish an internet connection. That means you need to test whether you can access websites such that of Yahoo! and Google.

Once you’ve established your internet connectivity to be Ok, it’s time to determine the IP address of your modem to enter to the web configuration option. By default, it’s 192.168.1.1. But if want to determine if it’s really 192.168.1.1, you need to use the ipconfig /all command in the command prompt. Look at the DCHP Server address (which is most likely to be the same with the Default Gateway address), and that’s your modem’s IP address.

Launch your web browser (Internet Explorer recommended) and type your modem’s IP Address followed by /globe. It should look like this: http://192.168.1.1/globe. You can click on the link here and you should immediate see a web page asking for a Username and Password.

Type Admin for the Username and 3UJUh2VemEfUtesEchEC2d2e for the Password.

From this point of the tutorial, I will be using the web configuration of Aztech modem. You might have different configuration options than mine but what is important is for you to enable or complete the tasks set here. First task, setup UPNP. That would be in the Advanced tab then Applications and finally UPNP. Make sure to Enable this option for both the WAN and LAN connections.

Next, we need to bind the machine ID of our router to the DHCP server (modem) so that the router will always be given the WAN IP Address of 192.168.1.2. This will also enable the DMZ option for the next step. As to determining your routers machine ID, you might want to begin at the bottom of the router and in the documentation or the CD that came with it. The ID should look something like 00:B0:0D:51:B1:6A. If you can’t find it anywhere, you need to access your router’s web configuration page. To do that I recommend visiting the manufacturer’s site. There you will sure be guided in finding the machine ID of your device.

Once you have the machine ID, open LAN then LAN Clients in the Advanced tab. Use 192.168.1.2 in the IP Address and Manufacturer name of the router in the Hostname and finally the Machine ID in the MAC Address and click Apply.

Once completed, we need to enable the DMZ Settings from the Application then Port forwarding options in the Advanced tab. The Port forwarding option will only be available in the first place if you have set at least one static IP address, if not, it will return an error, so don’t skip steps 6 and 7. Once in the DMZ Settings page, check Enable DMZ and select 192.168.1.2 in the LAN IP Address option. Don’t forget to click Apply. Also, click Save Settings at the top of the configuration page to commit these changes to the modem. If not, once the modem is rebooted, all your work will be lost.

Just for checking, I’d encourage you to reboot the router after clicking Save Settings and double check everything if the changes we saved in the configuration page. If not, do the setup again. If you have successfully followed the instructions and was able to do everything correctly, then congratulations, you are done configuring your modem. Let’s proceed to your router.

Setting your wireless/wired router

Here is the bloody part. For each manufacturer, different ways of configuring the router is available. I simply don’t have the luxury of going through each manufacturer’s web configuration so I’ll be outlining the the router’s WAN and LAN settings instead. You have to visit the website of your router’s manufacturer for the instructions on how to perform WAN and LAN setup for the router.

Here, I am assuming that you have successfully logged in to your router’s web configuration page. The first thing you need to do is to set the internet connection mode, choose Static IP for the mode. Use 192.168.1.2 for the IP Address, 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask, 192.168.1.1 for the Gateway and 192.168.1.1 for the Primary DNS Server. Make sure to save these settings. So, why use Static IP? Why not use bridge mode or Assigned by DHCP? For one, this is the only way you can match your modem’s settings above. Secondly, when you do do port forwarding, you might have to do it in your modem and your router at the same time. And lastly, there are routers, like the ones manufactured by Belkin, that would allow you to monitor your internet connectivity within the router. If you use bridge mode, these monitoring capabilities won’t be available to you. Also, this will ensure that you will not have IP address conflict.

Next, we need to setup the LAN Settings of your router. Use 192.168.2.1 for the IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask. Also, enable DHCP Server for your router. Save the changes you made.

From here, you can configure Wireless Network Password from here or simply use a cable to connect your router. You can also skip the password setup and continue to next section.

Connecting the devices

You are almost done. What needs to be done now is to connect the modem and the router.

Using the ethernet cable, plug one end to the router in the WAN port and Ethernet port in modem.

Plug the DSL line in your modem. Plug the power lines.

Turn both the router and modem on. Wait for the light to be green and that you have a steady green or blinking green light in the Internet LED indicator of your modem.

Connect to your router either wired or wireless.

If you have done everything correctly you should be able to surf the web. As for the port forwarding, tutorial, I guess I need to place it in a separate blog entry. It’s Christmas you know… I need to rest my fingers… LoL

Hope this helps! Cheers and Merry Christmas everyone!

Technorati Tags: configure globe dsl, configure globe modem, setup globe modem, connect globe modem to a wireless router, connect globe modem to router, configure globe modem with wireless router, setup globe modem with router, modem and router ip conflict

What you can do with your files or folders larger than 10 MB is to split it into archives of 10 MB using WinRAR. Of course, before you try this guide, you need to install WinRAR in your pc. This is not to endorse WinRAR, but I just find the software to be better than the others I’ve used.

Step-by-step Guide

Before you begin, download and install WinRAR first.

Navigate to the folder containing the folder(s)/file(s) you want to send as an attachment.

Right click on the folder(s)/file(s) and then select Add to archive.

You will be given a window where you can rename the archive and most importantly, the option to split the archives into specific files sizes.

Now instead of selecting from the combo box in the Split to volumes, bytes option, type 10485760 or 10000000 to specify that the entire folder(s)/file(s) you have selected be cut into 10 megabytes file size.

When you click Ok, you will see a progress bar and that you will have several WinRAR archives of 10 MB size. You can then attached each of this to an email.

Technorati Tags: attach large file to an email, split files to specified size, using winrar to split files, split files in winrar, split files to specified size in winrar, using winrar to split file size

What usually happens after doing a clean install of Windows 7 is that I’d install ArcGIS Desktop and with it installation of a lot other software in the background. What I have noticed is that when done with the installation and doing a reboot, Windows feature would not display anything, windows features is empty or blank. This becomes a problem when you want to install something, say Safari, it will not complete the installation process. Even updates won’t install.

After spending more than 6 months with this problem, I got a little bit lucky and was able to find a solution. Now this solution is for x86 systems cause the problem does not exists in x64 versions of the operation system.

Here is the registry tweak you can use to solve this problem.

Step-by-Step Guide

You need to run Registry Editor, to do that press and hold Windows Key in your keyboard and then the letter R.

Type regedit in the Run Command window.

Locate this key on the left pane
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control

You should find this DWORD value on the right pane
RegistrySizeLimit

Double click on RegistrySizeLimit and paste the Decimal value of 4294967295 (ffffff in Hex).

Close the Registry Editor and restart your pc.

Hope this helps. Any ideas on how to solve this problem is very much welcome! For those people who wanted Vista to remember the username and password of network shared folders, your request has been answered – or shall I say partially answered. The fact that vista now remembers the username and password is a good update, however, I do not know which update that I installed helped fix this problem.

I installed several updates released from the 13th of July to 17th of July, 2009. After that, I noticed Vista now remembers. At least this is a good new to people who has been bugged of using a the batch file implementation to make logging in to network folders.

If anybody knows which update was it, you can post your information in this blog.

Technorati Tags: Vista won't remember passwords, vista network password, vista won't remember network passwords, vista network problem

I first used SmartBro, because I’m used to a decent internet connection at home, it was so much pain to wait for 30 secs to load a single page. It also took quite a while to update my emails in Outlook and my Yahoo! IM was in lag. So, I kept working because I had to finish my presentation for the following day. A night after I realized that I had a post paid Globe Visibility in my back pack, which I bought a few months ago. I used this device I think only twice when I really had no choice. For the third time I had no choice, so plugged the USB device and found out that the device was not detected because I installed SmartBro a night before.. THE F**K!!!! So i ended up uninstalling everything and reinstalling the darn Globe Visibility and to my surprise, the darn thing won’t install its drivers.. THE F**K!!! Does Globe products behave like this? Maybe their iPhones are the same thing – I WON’T EVEN TRY. We had plans in our office that all of us will buy iPhones but what happened with me, they surely can count me out! Back to the darn kit, since I’m quite handy with tech stuff, I was able to install the driver and got the thing working. Set everything and tried opening a web page, Google’s home page that is. Imagine, it took more than a minute to load the darn page! THE F**K!!! This is freakin’ stupid! I know that I’m only in GPRS and that with the same connection type, SmartBro was way better! Now I tried opening my IM. WOW! 3 minutes just to login! SUPER F**K! And as for my Outlook, more than 5 minutes… AMAZINGLY SSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW for heaven’s sake!!!!!
After this experience, all I can say is the “F” GLOBE – the “F”… I wonder why I signed for the Globe broadband. But one thing I can promise. If the internet speed that I will have is way below than they claim, then kiss my freakin’ “A” goodbye cause I won’t be paying anything. As for my GLOBE Visibility, in the trash to which it deserves…

I think, NO GLOBE service/products for me from now on. Sorry Globe lovers, you can never convince me otherwise.

Technorati Tags: Globe Visibility,SmartBro,between Globe and Smart,Globe Telecom,Smart Communication, wireless broad band

Downloaded that software and it was very much like the older version but probably changes were done under the hood. I used Avira (the Free version) for more than 3 years now and I have no problem with it.

When installing the software, everything was nearly automated and all performed without a glitch. I now have the latest version of Avira running in my pc.

You can download Avira from here and you can configure the software by following the instructions here. A small note though, you can also configure the Extended threat categories from Configuration – General. You can use Select all or have the configuration modified to your liking. As of me, I don’t play games that much, so I used Select all. Also, when you configure the Actions for concerning files, you have the choice to do an Automatic or Manual action. For me, I used Automatic with Repair as the Primary action and Delete for the Secondary action. I also unchecked Copy file to quarantine before action cause what it did was place file that it detected as virus to the quarantine folder and had my drive space occupied by these files. But it is your choice though, just try to delete the quarantined files once in a while to free disk space.

Technorati Tags: new version of avira antivirus, avira new version, configure avira, umbrella antivirus configure

After all, this is what I do most, then why not blog about it. So, here it is a new label in my blog – GPS. I will try to write the simple things that you can do with your GPS, and yes, that includes Geotagging. For now, I will just have a tutorial on how to download GPS data from any (As long as EasyGPS supports your device that is) GPS unit.

I’d recommend using EasyGPS because it’s FREE and you don’t need to a geek to use it. It’s as easy as clicking buttons. You can also open the .gpx file from EasyGPS in Google Earth and that this is the only software that I now that can help your easily geotag photos. Follow the step by step guide below to download your GPS data.

Needed software: EasyGPS and device driver for USB attached GPS (mine is in COM so I do not need a device driver)

Needed hardware: GPS unit (Magellan, Garmin or anything supported by EasyGPS – see Configuring your GPS receiver in the software’s manual) and GPS data cable

Step-by-Step Guide of downloading GPS data using EasyGPS.

You need to download first EasyGPS here.

Install the software. Just follow the instructions and you can never go wrong.

During the final stage of the installation, you have the option to Launch EasyGPS so launch EasyGPS.

What you need to do now is plug your GPS receiver in your pc using your data cable and turn it On (In case you do not know what a data cable is, this is the wire that came with your GPS unit. If you don’t have one, you can purchase the cable alone). If you are using a cable that hooks to COM port then you can proceed to the next step, if not, you need to install a device driver for your USB cable. Most of the time, device drivers is included in your GPS unit’s package, if not, then you can visit the manufacturer’s site of your GPS receiver and download from there the USB driver.

Once your GPS receiver is connected to your pc and that drivers have already been installed, go back to EasyGPS and click Receive.

There should not be anything in the GPS receiver list. So click Add GPS and you will see the window below.

You will be given a list of GPS manufacturers, select the manufacturer of your GPS receiver.

From the Models column, select your GPS model and click Ok.

Select the Port where your GPS receiver is attached. This can be quite daunting sometimes, the best thing to determine which port is your GPS receiver attached to is to right click on My Computer, then select Manage and choose Device Manager. Look for Ports and you will find there the port that are active or available. My device is attached to COM port 1. This is where most of the of the GPS receivers are attached. For the Speed, do not change the default value. Click Ok.

You will have your GPS receiver listed, click Ok and you will see the window below.

Just click Ok. EasyGPS will download your GPS data.

Once complete, you can Save your data in .gpx (GPS Exchange File) file format. You can also open your gpx file in Google Earth.

You are done. If you still have questions. Feel free to post a comment. Next to this blog is how to geotag images the easy way. After a registration process with a credit card (of course to create the iTunes account you need to have one), I managed to make the Genius playlist in my iTunes work. By the way, I just signed up for iTunes during the activation process, I did not buy anything. You need to have an iTunes account to make this thing work.

So what is Genius and is it really for you? Genius is some sort of an automatic playlist generator based on a song. When you have a song playing in an iPod/iPhone, tap the screen once and you should see the lyrics of the song (if there is any that is. At the top center of the screen you will see a Genius icon. When you have that function activated, it will bring you to the Genius playlist based on that song where you tapped the icon. Now one thing is very unique with this function, it seems that it manages to bring your favorite songs (probably based on the number of times you played the song or comparing the song with other genius users and creating a playlist out of the top songs or simply by creating a playlist based on the same genre, or a combination of it all– I don’t really know, just guessing). This is a very nice feature if you have a vast collection of songs from different genres. I have written here a short guide on how to activate and use iTune’s Genius player.

Step-by-Step Guide

Open iTunes and create an iTunes Store account. You will need a Credit Card when you create an account.

Once done with the account, you can go ahead and click Genius in you playlist in iTunes. Activate the genius player. For the first time it has activated, it will information from your library, if you have a large collection of songs, you need to stay back, this might take quite a while. I have mine done overnight, probably because I have large song collection located outside my network accessible to some sort of network drive mapping.

Once you are done, sync your iPod/iPhone.

Now play your favorite song, and then tap the screen ounce. At the top center of your screen, you will see the Genius icon, tap.

You will now have the playlist of the songs related to the song that you have tapped or chosen the Genius icon.

So, that’s how easy it is to activate and use the Genius playlist. I hope it worked for you. Have fun!

Technorati Tags: iTunes Genius playlist,Genius playlist, activating Genius playlist

My problem with its wifi connection started when I was trying to connect to our office’s wifi. Not only that, all laptop’s running Vista had the same problem. The Network Connection icon does not display internet connection, or it displays internet connection however any web browser can’t connect to the internet.

So I search the web for an answer to this problem and I found out that it’s not only me that’s having the same problem. In one of the posts, I have encountered a software solution to this problem. Most people resolved their Vista wifi connection issues by running something that is not available in Vista Home and Home Premium editions. So I downloaded the software called Vista DHCP Broadcast Fix 1.1 and it solved my problem. I hope it will work with your wifi connection issues too.

You can download the software via RapidShare here and follow the step-by-step guide to fix your internet connection below.

Step-by-Step Guide to fixing Windows Vista wifi connection problems

Download Vista DHCP Broadcast Fix 1.1.

You need to copy this software anywhere in your hard drive, do not run this on a mapped network drive or from the network.

Run Vista DHCP Broadcast Fix 1.1 as administrator. To do that, right click on its icon and select Run as administrator.

If prompted with the UAC (User Access Control = User Annoyance Control ), just click continue and you will a window like the one below.

What you need to do first is identify which of your adapter is for you wifi connection. So click Query Adapters.

Once you have the query results, look for anything that says Wireless in the Description column, that should be your wireless network adapter.

Now in the Adapter column, click the name of your wifi adapter and make sure that it is selected. You will know that it is selected because it will be highlighted blue.

Once selected, click Apply Fix. It will say something about you praying for the fix to work. Just click Ok. It worked for me, it might also work for you. I hope…

Now you have been asked to Restart, so do a restart.

By now, your wifi connection should be solved. If you still have questions, just post a comment on this page or send me an email. If you find this information useful, you can Digg this page.

Hope this helps…

Technorati Tags: Vista wifi connection, repair vista wifi, wifi problems with vista

Unless you know how to properly control the software, then you will get good enough quality videos. I think most people don't want the hassle of tweaking the settings. I think this is the software for you. It's called Format Factory, and here is the RapidShare link to download the installer. Installation is easy and fast, as well as the conversion. Just follow the step be step guide below.

Step-by-Step Guide

Download and install FormatFactory.

From the start button, select All Programs then FormatFactory and click FormatFactory.

You will now have the FormatFactory interface. On the left pane, click on Mobile Devices\PSP\iPhone.

From the choices, select All to iPhone MP4.

To add videos to convert, locate in you pc the directory where you saved the video file, most probably that would be a video file in .avi format. You can click Add File to convert a single video file or click Add Folder to convert all the video files in that folder to the format which can be played in your iPod Touch.

Once you are done adding the video files for conversion, click Ok. Video file conversion will then start and wait for it to finish.

Once done, are now ready to all the converted files to iTunes. To locate where the converted files were saved click Output Folder at the top of FormatFactory. Sometimes, the converted files are saved in the same folder as the original file to be converted. Make sure to also check that folder.

Open iTunes and drag and drop the converted video files and you have these files available in iTunes. You can now Sync your iPod Touch.

Technorati Tags: sync movie to ipod, sync video to ipod, sync video to itunes, sync video to iphone, convert video to iphone format

Microsoft for instance has remote desktop connection. RealVNC and TightVNC also exists. For several years, I’ve used RealVNC and TightVNC to remotely control desktop pc’s both at home and in the office. Just a year ago, I have switched to an ISP that uses a fixed IP and that the modem itself is preconfigured that no matter how I control my router I could not do any port forwarding and port triggering. A friend introduced to me to TeamViewer. As long as you have an internet connection, you can remotely control a pc. I have outlined the steps below on how to use TeamViewer.

Requirements: You need to download the TeamViewer software. Two versions exists, a portable version and the other an installable version. You’ll also need an active internet connection for 2 pc’s.

Step-by-Step Guide

Download the free version of TeamViewer here. There are two versions of the software, one is an installer and the other is a portable version where you can extract in your USB stick and have it with you everywhere you go. You can download the portable version in the download section of TeamViewer’s website.

Install the software using the default settings. When asked how you will use the software, select personal/non-commercial use.

Accept all license agreements.

You will now be prompted of the Installation type that you want. As for me, I used Normal for my laptop and Start automatically with windows for my desktop. The reason for this was merely because I usually use my laptop to control other pc’s. If you have chosen to install the software in Start automatically with windows mode, you need to supply a password, remember this password cause you will need this when connecting to the remote computer .

Click continue until you are done installing the software. Once done, install it to the other pc. REMEMBER: When windows or any firewall software will ask to grant permission to teamviewer.exe to access the net, ALWAYS select ALLOW.

Choose whichever pc you want to use as remote pc and the controlling pc. Just make sure that both are running TeamViewer.

When you first start TeamViewer, you will find that it will generate an ID for you. This ID number is quite unique since it will not change, no matter where you will go. So take note of this number. As for the password, you will have there predefined if you have installed the software to run with Windows or it will contain something else if you have installed is using the Normal mode.

In one of the pc’s that you have, open TeamView from Start then All Programs.

A window will open. Type the ID of the other computer (the one that you want to control) in the ID field of Create session column.

Select Remote support and click Connect to partner. When asked for a password, type the Password you encoded during the setup process or if your used Default installation, you can see the password of the pc below its ID.

If everything went well, then you should see that other computer’s desktop in you monitor. Sometimes, it takes a while for the remote computer’s desktop to be displayed, be patient.

It is that easy to remotely control a pc using TeamViewer with no wireless router and modem configuration! Enjoy!

Technorati Tags: remote control pc,desktop pc control, remote desktop using teamviewer, teamviewer to control a remote pc,configure teamviewer

I badly need to download my emails from Yahoo and I want these to be downloaded in Outlook 2007. Out of desperation, I started searching for an alternative to YPops! – and I found Freepops. Though not similar to YPops!, Freepops will only allow you to download emails from Yahoo! but you will not be able to send email in Outlook if you would use a Yahoo! account. Because of this, I am now using Gmail, which automatically creates POP3 settings for me in Outlook.

Below is the step by step guide how you can configure Freepops to work with your Outlook. I know a lot of Outlook users out there would want to know this. If you want to know more about Freepops, here is the Wiki link.

Download Freepops for Windows here. Do not use any download accelerator for this because I have this file uploaded in RapidShare.

Once you have downloaded the file, install it using the default settings.

Before you configure Outlook, it is advisable to update Freepops frist. Click on the Freepops updater from Start – All Programs – Freepops. Just click Next to all choices, Freepops will automatically update all files.

Now, I would also recommend running Freepops as a service. This way, once you boot your pc, you will be able open Outlook and download emails from your Yahoo! mail account, because Freepops is running in your background. To set Freepops to run as a service, click Start – All Programs – Freepops – Service and choose Install Service (default options)

Once done you need to make the service active. You can do this by restarting your pc or my manually starting the service. To manually start the service press and hold Windows key in your keyboard and press R.The run command will open, type [NET START “FreePops”] without the [] and press Enter.

You should receive a message that says service has been successfully started.

You are now done configuring Freepops, it’s now time to configure Outlook.

Click Start – All Programs – Microsoft Office then choose Outlook. If you are using outlook for the first time, then you can continue below, if not you should click Tools – Account settings – New in Outlook.

What you should have by now is Add New email Account window. Make sure you have Microsoft Exchange, POP3… selected and click Next.

At the bottom of the next window, there is an option to manually configure server settings, click on that and click Next.

Choose Internet-email and click Next.

You now need to enter user information. Your name should be anything about you. Email Address would be your Yahoo email address. For the Account Type, make sure have chosen POP3. For the Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server, type 127.0.0.1. You can not use localhost here because we have chosen the default settings for the Freepops service. If you want to use localhost, you can remove the other service and Install Service (-b 0.0.0.0) service installation option. For the logon information, make sure to type your complete email with @yahoo.com entry in the username and your password in the password box. You are almost done, click More settings to configure the final touches. On the Advanced tab of More settings, type 2000 for Incoming Server (POP3). Also, set the server timeouts to 10 minutes and check Leave a copy of the message on server and Remove from server when deleted from “Deleted items”.

Click Ok. You need to test first if it is working, so click Test Account Settings. In the task you should be able to Log onto incoming mail server and have a Failed Send test email message. This is normal because Freepops could not use SMTP, unlike YPops!.

Once you have everything tested, then you can click close, then Next and Finally Finish.

You now have your Yahoo! mails forwarded to Outlook. If you have several attachments in a email, all of these will be downloaded in your Outlook. Less hassle of downloading each attachment if you would use a web browser to open Yahoo! mail.

Technorati Tags: FreePops,YPops alternative, download yahoo mail to outlook, configure outlook with yahoo mail, yahoo mail use with outlook

In this case, my answer is different, use Magic Disc. Why? Because it's free and very convenient to use aside from having support to most of the available disc images for download. To download the file from RapidShare, click HERE.

Step-by-Step Guide

You need to get the software installed and when asked to reboot, do so. Once the computer finishes rebooting, you will see an icon in your system tray that looks like a disk with a hand. That will tell you that you now have Magic Disc running in your machine. You will also notice that you will have an additional CD-Drive in your machine, that is your virtual drive created by Magic Disc.

Now you have the software installed, it's time to open an iso file. Navigate to the folder in you computer where you saved an iso file. You will know that it is an iso when the icon for the file looks like a disc - what else do you think it would look like?

Right click on the iso file and choose MagicISO, then select Mount the media.....iso then choose the drive letter created by Magic Disc - the virtual drive that is.

If you have autorunning of disc from drives enabled, then you should automatically see a selection of choices what to do with the loaded disk. If you have disabled autorun because of concerns with virus infection through autorun process, then you have to open My Computer then select the virtual drive created by Magic Disc and open that drive. You should now see the contents of the .iso file or any disc image file.

Once you are done with using the virtual drive, make sure to unmount all drives or else you will have problems ejecting any USB device where your iso file was saved. To Unmount all drives, right click the virtual drive and select MagicISO then choose Unmount all drives. This will unload all your loaded iso files and hopefully, you can now eject your USB drive.

If you still have problems with this tutorial, please do not hesitate to post a comment. I will post a reply as early as I can. Thanks.

Technorati Tags: open iso file,open iso,daemon tools,magic disc,open uif,uif open

For those who have been asking me to create a modified installer for PEBuilder, your wish is granted. Click on the RapidShare link below.

Take note, if updating McAfee virus definition file fails via HTTP and FTP download, please manually download the SuperDat file. I have included the instructions on how to manually download, and extract the downloaded files for use with BartPE CD.

Aside from this installer, you will also be needing an XP installation disk. For proprietary reasons, I can not help you with that, find the XP installation disk somewhere else, in Piratebay maybe. ;-)

DO NOT MODIFY the default installation directory (C:\Program Files\pebuilder3110a) or else you will have problems extracting the SuperDat file.

Once you have created the CD, you might want to take a look at this post as well.

BartPE Installer by Borge (Modified)

Technorati Tags: BartPE,PE CD,PE Builder,Scan Viruses from CD

Since I blogged about using ad hoc WiFi connectivity to share internet connection, I might as well include how to immediately establish connectivity between connected pc's by manually assigning IP addresses. What it does is it makes connectivity between pc's to be established a lot faster because of the already defined IP addresses. Also, since the have the connected machine have then subnet, you can easily share files from one pc to another. This step by step guide may not be that difficult, but if you still want something to be clarified, please leave a comment.

What you need: Windows XP or Vista machine (though this will also works will older versions of Windows OS) - you need to machines by the way, but it does not matter if these machines have different OS's installed

Step-by-Step Guide

1. You need to open the settings for your network connectivity adapter. For Windows Vista, you can do that by right clicking on the network icon near the system tray and selecting Network and Sharing Center. For Windows XP, that's selecting Open Network Connections, also in the system tray.

2. In Windows XP, the window that will open will automatically give a list of the pc's available connectivity adapters while in Vista, you need to select first Manage Network Connections before seeing the list of available adapters.

3. From here, you will now choose which adapters will you be using to connect directly to another pc (ad hoc connection) or a network (infrastructure). Say you want to have a wireless ad hoc or infrastructure connection, then you will need to open the network connectivity adapter for your WiFi. In most laptops, that would indicate something that has the word Wireless. Right click on that connectivity adapter and select Properties.

4. What you will then have is the properties for that certain connectivity adapter. From the This connection uses the following items option, find Internet protocol version (TCP/IPv4) while for Windows XP, it's only Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

5. After locating TCP/IPv4 item, you need to click Properties. You will be given another window that will now allow you to manually set the IP addresses and other options for the connectivity you have previously chosen.

6. Make sure to click on Alternate Configuration tab. We need to do this so that whenever we want to use the adapter to connect to another network, we would not want to go through steps 1 to 5 just to be connected. The purpose of using the alternate is that you have the freedom to use the set IP address whenever the network allows you to use these settings or else, the network will automatically give you another IP address. This option is the only mobile solution I know to work with ad hoc wireless connectivity seamlessly while preserving my connectivity with other infrastructure networks.

7. In the Alternate Configuration option, choose User Configure radio button. The settings below this option will automatically be activated.

8. We now need to manually write the settings so here it goes. For the IP Address usually you can set this to 192.168.0.2. Now you can replace the last number (which is 2) to any number that you want from 1 - 254. For the Subnet mask choose 255.255.255.0. For the Default gateway, that would be 192.168.0.1. For the Preferred DNS Server, I use OpenDNS servers so I have 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 entered for that entry.

9. Once you have these settings, you can now click Ok to all dialogs, to save your settings. You can then close all network windows that you have. From here you can then create an ad hoc wireless connection (here are the links for Vista and XP) after you configure the other pc's TCP/IP properties.

NOTES: Make sure to set the pcs' you are configuring to different IP Addresses or else you will get an error indicating conflict with IP addresses. Sometimes, you may be required to do a reboot, please do so, this will help a lot with connectivity issues. You can change the IP Address to anything else like 192.168.1.2 and the Default gateway to 192.168.1.1. This configuration varies with the every network you will be connecting so have these settings verified first. If you still have questions or comments, please post it here in the blog.

Technorati Tags: setting ip address, configure ip address, manually define ip address, create fixed ip address, assign ip address

This method is very easy compared to that of configuring XP. Follow the steps below. Also note that you will need 1 host pc that has LAN and WiFi connections (adapaters) and at least 1 client pc that has WiFi adapater (connection).

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Make sure you plug your desktop pc or laptop via LAN cable - ethernet connection that is. Also make sure that you have a live internet connection, that is, you can access internet in your desktop or laptop that has been plugged via LAN cable.

2. Once you have an internet connection you can now begin the wifi internet sharing configuration process.

3. Click vista orb (Start) then Control Panel then click Network and Sharing Center. You can also access Network and Sharing Center in the system tray. Right click your internet connection icon near the clock - usually the one that looks like 2 pc's with 3 little blue blobs in front, and click Network and Sharing Center.

4. On the Tasks option, select Setup a connection or network.

5. In the Choose a connection option, select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network. Just click Next for the dialog boxes that would appear.

6. For the Network name, you can write anything you want. Then for the Security type, choose No authentication (Open). And make sure NOT TO SAVE the network settings by leaving the Save this network option unchecked and then click Next.

7. The final dialog box should give you an option to Share your internet connection. Click on this option and finish the configuration process. This pc will now become the host of other pc's to connect to. This will functions as some sort of an access points for other wireless laptops or pcs' with wireless adapters to connect to the internet.

8. Now you have setup the host pc, you need to have another pc or laptop with wireless network card or adapter.

9. Connect this pc to the host as if you are connecting to a wireless network. If you did exactly what was written in steps 1 to 7, you should now be surfing the web wirelessly through a shared internet connection fro a pc that is connected to the a

LAN cable that has internet access.

NOTES: Whenever the host pc restarts, you must reconfigure the wifi settings, that is, you need to follow steps 1 to 7 again. Also for the client pcs', make sure NOT TO SAVE the network since it is only temporary.

Technorati Tags: Share internet connection in vista, vista wifi sharing, internet connection sharing, vista ad hoc network connection

What you'll get is an explorer that works with tabs - no need to clutter your task bar with several folders when copying files from one folder to another. Also, you set this to show hidden system files, good for virus hunting in removable drive. I can sort my folders according to total file size inside the folder. Good for freeing up space in hard drives. I usually forget where I place my very large files and I use ExplorerXP to track these down and have it transferred to another media or totally deleted from my drive. On the down side, this does not work with Vista.

The software is actually a competitor of Diskkeeper, another disk defragmenting software that I reviewed ages back. So, here is the review.

First Impression: Well, I kinda hate the office like interface. A very poor copy of the office interface cause you could not hide the ribbon - very dull that is. You can not even change the color, it's always blue. Doing a manual defrag was at first stupidly difficult, probably because I was used to using Diskkeeper. I almost hated the software when I first installed it, but I still gave it a try.

Setup: Well, installing the software and have it running was never an issue with my Vista 32bit pc.

Configuration: Difficult at first but when you have it done, it's quite rewarding. Configuration is all about setting the Autopilot. In my case, I don't want to run scheduled checks so I had Full Auto Schedule created and Screen Saver Schedule instead. What this does is it defragments my drive every 5 days as well as defragment my drive when my screen saver shows up. This works for me because I usually leave my pc turned on even when I am asleep.

Experience: Well, it's as if I am running nothing in my background. I get the performance I should get with my machine and after I am done doing my work, disk defragmentation kicks in, not interfering with my work. I almost forgot I have a disk defragmenter running in background. People at PerfectDisk got this right - a disk defragmenter not interfering with your work or game when using your pc. However, using PerfectDisk to automatically defragment my external hard drive gave me a minor problem. After having my screen saver shown, trying to eject the external hard drive was next to impossible. Probably PerfectDisk was still accessing the drive or something that's why I had the option turned off. FYI: It's turned off my default.

Conclusion: Considering the interface and the minor glitch with my external hard drive, I give this software a rating of 8 out of 10. If you want a disk defragmenter that will work in the background without interfering with your work ,then this is the software for you.

In my posts and comments, I've always mentioned that I was able to put songs almost similar to the quality of the songs that I usually play at my pc but having only half or a third the original file size. Since then, many requested a step-by-step tutorial on how to convert mp3's to another file format that would have these attributes. The real secret with this method is with the software that I use to convert mp3's. And I convert mp3's into wma's (Windows Media Audio), is also the file format used when you rip audio CD's using Windows Media Player.

For this step by step guide, you need to install GoldWave first, which is the application that we will be using to convert mp3's to wma's. Although it is not free, it is worth more than you'll be paying for. And also, you need to have some mp3 files that we will be converting into wma.

Step-by-Step Guide

Once you have GoldWave installed, launch the program by clicking start - All Programs - GoldWave - GoldWave. You should see something like below.

This time click File and select Batch Processing. Another window would appear something looking like this.

Now, first things first. You must add mp3s to convert in your Files and folders to process dialog. Click Add Files if you want to convert say 3 to 5 mp3 files. But if you want to have an entire folder of mp3 files converted to wma, then choose Add Folder - after all, the name of this window is Batch Processing, converting 3-5 mp3 files would hardly fit the word batch.

After adding the mp3 files, click Convert files to this format and choose wma in Save as type. For the Attributes, select WMA 9.2, 32 kbps, 44 khz, stereo CBR. Refer to the screenshot below for details.

Click the Folder tab. This option will give you the choice to place the converted files to the directory where the original mp3 files are saved or to have all the converted files in a single directory that you have defined. Say for the settings that I have below, I have chosen to save all the wma's to a folder in my pc called TEMP in drive D:\ (See the screenshot below). This is a good option if you have mp3 files coming from different directories in your pc and want all of these converted to wma's in a single batch. Once you are done with these settings, then click Begin and wait for the conversion to finish.

After the completion of the conversion process, you can now navigate to the pc directory where you saved your wma's. Using a USB cable or bluetooth, you can then copy these files to your Nokia 6300. You are done. But make sure when you start using 6300's audio player, do a refresh of the audio files first, because there is a good chance that your phone did not automatically add the new wma's in the list.

Well, that's about it. I hope somebody out there would find this tutorial helpful. For comments, suggestions or clarifications, please post a comment, I am sure I will be reading all of it.

NOTE: WMA audio format is also supported by Creative mp3 players. So if you have one, you can convert your mp3's to wma and save disk space. I've even placed almost 450 songs in my 512 MB Muvo player. Just check it out, you would not notice the difference in sound quality.

Technorati Tags: mp3 to wma,convert audio into wma,wma settings,GoldWave wma to mp3

I've seen the software progress for from than 3 years now and every release is better than the previous. So, what can it do? Well, it will give that one click ability to clean unnecessary files in your pc. I usually did the cleaning of temporary files, such as log files, temp files, and Internet Explorer files, using a batch file in Windows 98, now why do that in my machine if I have CCleaner. Aside from that, using this software I was able to delete .NET framework which the Add/Remove Program that came with windows would not allow me to remove. This software is a must have for people who want to have an easy way to clean and maintain their pc. Also, it has this registry cleaner that I find sufficient for computer maintenance. All in all, the rating that I would give for this software if 5 out of 5.

Technorati Tags: CCleaner,cleanup computer,registry cleaner

I have also included the lyrics which you can see in episode shows as well as an album art which I took from the net. Here's the download link via RapidShare. Tried it on my iPod Touch and sounds good enough for me. For other Naruto audio files, go here.

I looked for a way to embed the song in this post but I can't seem to find any, so I have posted the lyrics instead. I also uploaded it to imeem and embedded it here, I am not sure if this will work.

Naruto Shippuden Opening Song

Habataitara modorenai to itte
Mezashita no wa aoi aoi ano sora
Kanashimi wa mada oboerarezu
Setsunasa wa ima tsukami hajimeta
Anata e to idaku kono kanjou mo
ima kotoba ni kawatteku
Michi naru sekai no yume kara mezamete
kono hane wo hiroge tobi datsu

Habataitara modorenai to itte
Mezashita no wa aoi aoi ano sora
Tsuki nuketara mitsukaru to shitte
Furikiru hodo
aoi aoi ano sora
aoi aoi ano sora
aoi aoi ano sora

NOTE: If you want the song that comes with the lyrics and album art, download the rapishare file, not the imeem file.

Technorati Tags: Naruto Shippuden Theme Song, opening song naruto shippuden, naruto shippuden song

Unlike the regular defragmentation procedure of Window's built-in disk defragment program, diskeeper can do a lot better with its Set-it and Forget-it option. Upon installation, you can set the software to defragment drives, including external hard drives, every time it has reached certain level of file and folder fragmentation. What you will see is a small disk icon in your system tray indicating that diskeeper is defragmenting your disks. You can also set the software to continuously defragment your drive in a scheduled time. Now this option is different from that I previously mentioned with the fact that for the indicated time, diskeeper will keep doing the defragmentation job once it has finished. There are a lot of other options, such as boot time defragmentation and manual defragmentation.

Pros: Good defragmentation threshold gives this software ultimate functionality as a maintenance tool while using minimum resources. Also, the Set-it and Forget-it option will make setting the software one-time hussle and the rest is fully automated.

Cons: Because the software automatically defragments your drive, there are cases when you will notice machine slow-down especially when playing games, and I even had an experience when WW3 crashed when I was winning the game because it has to defragment my drive. And since this is trialware, you have to pay for it after the trial period, but this is a good software worth paying for.

Conclusion: Good maintenance software for most users. If you have a machine that it say 10 years old, this is not the software for you. LoL

Technorati Tags: Diskeeper,disk defragment,defragment
