I really don't enjoy this book. It;s basically stating that all australians are racist and it states that we everyone treats lebanese people in real life, like they do in the book. its boring. its annoying. and im dying having have to study it for School.

I was given a Kindle for my birthday this year - great for long trips away when there's no room for heaps of printed books, but for everyday I still buy and read paper.

We don't have daily late fines at MPOW (we still have damage/loss charges). I'm exceptionally glad we don't - I'm of the belief that it takes up too much time to administer and you probably end up hitting the patrons that need to access the library the most. I gather from a brief glance through the literature when I was studying that it's borderline whether it makes a positive impact on circulation figures.

Interestingly, we don't have that many people complaining about books that they're waiting for being late back (except for the Hunger Games, which this afternoon was sitting on 360 reserves).

I think "clients" fits your corporate environment a lot better than it would fit here.

Although I wonder if maybe some staff would do well to think of the people they serve as their clients rather than users.

Ashleigh - you should read the book :-)

Sammy - re-reading my review it does sound a bit less excited about the book than I remember being, but I still think it says I liked the book. Bernard Beckett is a fantastic writer, and of course I couldn't write a better book. Very few reviewers (and I don't really consider myself much of one) could write a book as good as the ones they review. But that's not the point. Reviewers are there to help people figure out if they might like to read the book, that's all. If we were only permitted to review books we could write better than, we wouldn't review much at all. And if we could write better books, we'd be in the writing business, not reviewing business.

i dont think this is an entirely accurate review. i thought Jolt was a good book and the end was pretty subtle and nice. i loved how the plots interweaved it was very intriging. i think it deserves more credit than you have given it. i highly doubt you could write a better book.
