-         Hip hop superstars De La Soul headline final night’s musical performances Sixteen year old Harley Clifford was today crowned the first ever Wakestock Abu Dhabi Champion beating three of the sport’s best riders in a world class wakeboarding final at Wakestock Abu Dhabi held at Al Sahil beach on Abu Dhabi Corniche. Dallas Friday won the women’s competition while JD Webb was victorious on the rails as Pool Gap winner.

And after the sun went down, Wakestock Abu Dhabi closed with a bang as hip hop legends De La Soul entertained thousands with their unique quirky lyrics and funky beats including some of their greatest hits ‘Stakes is High’, ‘Me Myself and I’ and ‘Breakadawn’. The free three day festival has seen jaw dropping wakeboarding action on the first stop of this year’s World Wakeboarding Association’s ‘World Wake Series’ and the evenings filled with live music from local, regional and international stars.

The results of the main wakeboarding competition:

• In first place is the youngest competitor and 2009 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour title holder, Harley Clifford from Australia. Harley rode to victory with the competition’s only toeside frontside 900.

• In second place came Canadian Rusty Malinosky, known as the “Bone-Crusher” for his sheer power and brute strength.

• American Phillip Soven, the “Iceman”, twice winner of world championships, the King of Wake, and the Pro Tour Wakestock Abu Dhabi Pro Finals came in third place.

• In fourth place came Canadian Aaron Rathy, 2009 King of Wake.

Orlando, Fla. - The King of Wake - the world’s elite pro wakeboarding series - announced today where and when the top pro riders will compete for the ultimate wakeboarding crown, with the release of its 2010 schedule. In 2010, the top pros will compete in a series of eight events throughout the United States for one ultimate season-long points chase to see who rules the wake.

The eight events included in the 2010 series are the Wake Games, the WWA National Championships, the WWA World Championships and all five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour.

The King of Wake opens and ends its 2010 series at the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The series kicks off with the Wake Games on April 29-May 2 and wraps up the season on Aug. 19-22 with the WWA World Championships.

The Pro Wakeboard Tour features five stops, beginning on May 22 in Acworth, Ga. The Pro Tour then continues on to Fort Worth, Tex., on June 12; Elizabethtown, Ky., on June 19; Colorado Springs, Colo., on July 24; and concludes in Knoxville, Tenn. on Aug. 14, where a Pro Tour winner will be crowned.

The WWA National Championships, held in the greater Reno area of Sparks, Nev., on July 14-18, will mark the midpoint of the season, and the Chase for the Crown will begin following this event.

The Chase limits the King of Wake crown to the top 10 riders in the standings midway through the season. Only the 10 riders involved in the Chase will have their point totals adjusted and have the remaining three stops for topping each other in the standings for the King of Wake crown. The overall winner will be crowned at the 2010 Wake Awards.

Canada’s Aaron Rathy is the current King of Wake champion and will look to defend his title in 2010 against the sport’s top riders, including Pro Tour titlist and 2009 Rookie of the Year Harley Clifford; current National champion Adam Errington; and defending Wake Games winner Rusty Malinoski.

At the hall 5 of the Beach and Boat exhibition a big pool was built. Normaly nothing to wonder at an exhibition with watersports. Stand-up canoe, liveguards and windsurfers took the chance to show the public what it´s all about. But something was different. On one side of the bank, a huge white funbox and a kicker were found in the water. And if you took a look in the sky, there was a “Pro in the Box” cableway. Round the pool some exhibitors, well known names in the Wakeboardscene as O´Brien, RONIX, ION Essentials and new brands as Company Wakeboards or Neverride presented their brand new collections. Furthermore a bunch of Europe´s Pro Wakeboarders were chilling around a beachsoccer court. So what should exactly happen at this exhibition?

Beeing a competitor myself, I´ll give you some impressions of my weekend at the contest, about the organisation and everything around:

After the exhibition closed doors for the day, the training for first IWWF competition in 2010 was about to begin. We, the competitors already had a ridersmeeting, where we had the chance to decide when we wanted to do our 4-laps-training. Germany´s female Wakeboardlegend, Eva Koch, was in charge to manage the cable. With her uncomparable smile she passed every rider the rope before the start. After 20m on the right hand side, the 18 m long Obstixx Funbox came out of the water. It was a bit tricky to hit it the right way, because after the docstart you had a short but hard pull of the cable. Already in the trainingsession the guys showed what was possible. Making it a bit save in the first try, latest on the second ride 360 transferts, a couple of nice presses and gaps were seen. Everybody tried to push the limit a little bit higher. And it worked!! After the funbox you had only a short distance until the turn had to be done. On the counterline also on the right side a kicker was put into the water. Everything was a little bit narrow, but there was no other chance to fit those obsticals in the pool. And what does a Pro in such cases? He searches for the best line. Everybody hit the kicker, made rotations, straight airs, grabs. Amazing stuff, nice to see. But some sympathic wakeboarders who don´t care about do´s and don´ts always want to push the limit as high as possible. In this special case, a young rider with lots of treadlocks on his head, made everybody go “whooooohohooooo” as he did a Ollie on onto the funbox. Unfortunately he was called back by officials not to do that again, because “it was tooooo dangerous”. I promised not to tell anyone who this rider was, but Fetzy, I liked it!!!

The whole thing around, belonging the organisation of the contest, in my eyes was a class of its own. From the registration over to the hosting inside the hall, the organisation of the youth hostel and not to forget the contest, were exemplary! On this point a big thank to everyone who was involved. You all did a really great job!

As I told, we found accommodation in a youthhostel in the center of Leipzig. But I think, they didn´t expect that much request on drinks in the evening. Unfortunately the bartender seem to be a little bit under stress.

On Saturday, the early bird cought the fish. Contest started with the first heat at 8 am. Due to the fact, that inverts were not possible, the judges had no easy job to do. In addition, the rider´s level was very high, so everybody had to show his/her best. The longer the contest ran, the more the pool became a melting pot of the whole exibition. The tribune was filled quickly and around the pool lots of visitors took a chance to get an exciting inview into wakeboarding. This was confirmed by the companies who had a stand at the exibition. “I didn´t imagine, that so many potential customers make their way to my stand”, was the summery of the exhibitors.

Also the competitors were very proud about this contest. It was very cool to meet eachother during the winter, having a comp, hanging around together and do what we all love the most: wakeboarding!

To resume the whole weekend: it would be great to have more competitions like this during the winter. There are many exhibitions with watersport and it´s a great way to promote wakeboarding. If a contest is held during the summer, the audience has to come to a cablepark and everybody hopes for good weather for an outstanding happening. Competing in a hall, you don´t have to care about the weather, temperature or audience. The atmosphere and the cheering of the audience was enthusiastic. We all hope to have comps like this again. It seemed to be that we will have three Confederations Championships in the Region Europe and Africa (E&A) and also in South/ North America (PANAM) and Asia/Australia/ Oceana (AAO).

We will have the World Championships in Neubrandenburg!

We will have a lot of smaller Int. Competitions with 5000,- € like “Wake the Pool” and “ECWC Belgrad”.

Arriving at the Germiston Aquatic Club on Saturday morning was a sight every wake boarder wanted to see… a fully loaded Mastercraft X-Star waiting to roll, a brand new flat bar slider floating on the lake, an impressive Obrien stand selling all kinds of wakeboard equipment, Red Bull’s Betty jamming the tunes, and lots of activities for young and old!

Saturday qualifying rounds ran smoothly and all the riders were competing hard for a spot in the finals. Devon Nassif and Jono Joseph throwing a spanner in the works and finishing second and third respectively in the Pro Men division, forcing some of the favourites to rethink their runs for the final. Sundays riding was one not to be missed.

The Pro Men’s division was what everybody was waiting for, watching the top riders in South Africa go at it against each other! Since the riders were forced to change their runs due to the new judging criteria it was an open ball game. The riders were even more excited when they heard about the big prizes that were up for grabs! Jono Joseph who had a flawless run in qualifying unfortunately didn’t have the hammers in the finals seeing him place 5th. Morgan Krause a previous World Champion did not ride as well as everyone was expecting, even though he went big on some tricks it would not be enough for a podium and would place him in 4th place. Shaun Faccio opened up with a big Front Mobe scoring him some intensity points and his toe side nose grab batwing was really unique but unfortunately his rail skills let him down, placing him 3rd. Devon Nassif had one of his best runs to date in the finals and showed off everything the judges wanted to see laying down a flawless run, grabbing everything and absolutely smashing the rail scoring him a near perfect 8.5. His toe side back side nuclear 180 into the flats was an absolute monster putting him in 2nd. To top all of the other competitors was not going to be an easy task. You had to be really unique, go big, stylish and ride the rail really well, this was exactly what Clayton Krause did. The highlights of his pass had to be a 50/50 fsbs 180 off the rail, followed by a slow ball front roll, big nose glide, huge half cab 180, Dum-Dum and to end his run on the rail with a tsfs board to fs 270 off, narrowly giving Clay the overall win.

The Nike 6.0 build-out took place last fall and was completed just in time to host a small event with the Texas release of Aquafrolics. Team athletes came out to participate in the event and check out the new space that was the first of it’s kind and will be used as a test case by Nike 6.0. TSR has worked with Nike to ensure that the latest gear and fashions will be available year round. While the area is focused around Nike 6.0 they will also carry some product from Nike SB including the signature P-Rod shoes.

Liquid Force began construction of their area soon after and continue to tweak it out with help from the area rep Glen Morris. Glen has recently had a custom made, brush metal Liquid Force tear drop created. This drop has a seven foot diameter and weighs over 150 pounds. These unique fixtures and partnerships explain why TSR is able to thrive and continue to offer the best product not only in Texas, but across the country.

In addition to the two major partners, TSR’s BoardShop continues to grow and expand to keep up with demand. The restaurant at TSR is also undergoing a major facelift that will almost double the size of the current bar and restaurant. Look for the new café and sports bar to open sometime this spring!
