This 30th World Cup Stop took place on the magnificent lake in the centre of the official 1st World Leisure Games Village, putting it within easy reach of the visitors from 50 countries and Chuncheon residents. It was attended throughout by Mr Een-Nam Son, CEO 1st World Leisure Games & Congress.
The first class organization of the KWWA impressed all and added greatly to the occasion. As at every World Cup Stop, the boats were supplied by MasterCraft. This 30th IWWF World Cup Stop included Waterski Jump, Waterski Shortboard and Wakeboard. The spectacular Stars of Florida Ski Show also added a touch of glamour to the event. While heavy rain and 33C temperatures posed some challenges during the Preliminary Rounds, the Monday Finals enjoyed glorious sunshine and perfect water conditions for all. The six Heats of the World Cup Wakeboard Preliminaries attracted a full house of enthusiastic spectators. As the later Men’s Heats 1 and 2 were completed on the final day, some major stars had already dropped out. These included IWWF 2009 World’s silver medalist Austin Hair USA, four time European Champion Dan Nott GBR and Korean National Champion Jaemjan Padiwat. The Monday Finals included the two talented Phillip and Bob Soven brothers from the USA, past IWWF World Champion, Andrew Adkison USA, and Harley Clifford AUS, World Cup star and four-time US Pro Tour Champion. While Adkison lead the field with an outstanding performance, the eventual battle was between 17 year-old Harley Clifford and the more experienced 21 year-old Phillip Soven. At this 30th World Cup Stop, it was Harley Clifford who took the gold medal with a stunning performance. The six Women Finalists also presented a very impressive talent list. These included IWWF World Champion Raequel Hoffman USA, three-time World Cup Champion Raimi Merritt USA, and British National Champion, Nicola Butler. While Hoffman struggled to reach her usual form, Australia’s Pro Tour Champion Amber Wing set an early high score. Nicola Butler edged ahead but that left Raimi Merrit with a clear view of what was required to take this title. At just 17 years of age, she captured her fourth well-deserved World Cup gold medal in Chuncheon. In the Women’s and Mens Shortboard Preliminaries, there were some surprises. Both the World Record holder Clementine Lucine FRA and the past World Champion Mandy Nightingale USA did not make it through. Neither did Nicolas LeForestier FRA, recently recovered from injury and current World Record Holder, and Javier Julio ARG, the current World Overall Champion. In Shortboard, the four Women Finalists included Danyelle Bennett USA, Marion Aynaud FRA, Natalia Berdnikava BLR and Iris Cambray FRA. Bennett is a past World U21 Champion, Aynaud is a past World Junior Champion, Berdnikova is a past World Record Holder and 17 year-old Cambray is the current Junior World Champion. This guaranteed a thrilling challenge. While Bennett was close to her Personal Best score, Aynaud took the lead with 8310 points. Berdnikova quickly pushed this to 8520 points. Now it was all down to the 17 year old Shortboard sensation Cambray. Drama entered the scene. As she approached the Course, a skilled motorized Hanglider Pilot had some fun in coming within a few meters above her head. This resulted in a well-deserved re-ride. Showing extraordinary maturity, the 17 year old Iris Cambray went on to score 8850 points, just 250 short of the World Record. This guaranteed her the Chuncheon World Cup gold medal. The Men’s Shortboard Finals also produced outstanding performances. While Belarus athletes tend to dominate these days, Oleg Deviatovski was disappointed with his 9530 points on this occasion. Jimmy Siemers USA set the pace with an outstanding score of 10,720. None could match this till we got to the last two competitors. The reigning World Champion, Aliaksei Zharnasek BLR, pushed this to 11,770 points – just 630 short of the World Record. Twenty year-old Herman Beliakou BLR was the only remaining challenger. His great effort produced 11,490 points, just enough for the silver medal, leaving the gold medal for Zharnasek once again. The Jump Preliminaries also produced surprises in the Men’s event. The Women were more true to form. With some warm rain interruptions, the 2009 European Champion Damien Sharman GBR and World Cup star Scot Ellis USA did not make it through. In excellent water conditions, Marion Mathieu FRA set the standard for the Women’s Jump Finals with a distance of 47.1m. The 2009 European Champion and rising star Maj Lund Jepsen DEN quickly raised this to 48.1m. Now it was down to the past US Masters Champion Natalia Berdnikava BLR and the World Record holder June Fladborg DEN to take on the challenge. Surprisingly, neither succeeded. However, Fladborg did take the silver medal with a distance of 47.8m. As the sun set over the surrounding picturesque Chuncheon mountains in this beautiful region of South Korea, six Men Jump Finalists rounded off a wonderful day in hot sunshine. While the distances scored were unusually low, all pushed to the limit to try to capture this prestigious Chuncheon World Cup title. Russia’s National Champion, Igor Morozov, took an early lead with 59.0m. Surprisingly, third last off the dock, Ryan Dodd CAN, had to settle for 58.5m and third place. That left Mark Lane USA and World Record holder Freddy Krueger USA with the last challenge. Lane tried hard but failed. Krueger, who is now a World Cup legend for his ability to make the most of whatever challenge arises, brought the crowd to their feet on his very first attempt. His 62.0m distance was the gold medal performance of the day. Congratulations to KWWA and the 1st World Leisure Games organizers. This was an outstanding experience for all involved. The quality of the organization on all maters was certainly impressive. For all results, see : http://www.iwwfed-ea.org/classic/10FRA98 For World Cup updates, see : http://waterskiandwakeboardworldcup.com

After the Chill and Ride 2009, which had at some point actually been on the rocks, it was clear that over the course of economic recovery the edition of 2010 would evolve into a much bigger event. Here is the Chill and Ride story by Benjamin Wiedenhofer.

“On Friday over 35 boat crews started the Chill and Ride 2010 off with the qualifications of the wakesurfing ladies’ and wakesurfing men’s contests. Especially the skim-style wakesurfing viceworld champion Dominic Lagace, who came all the way from Canada only for this event,
impressed the proficient audience. Besides the Canadian the freshly crowned and three times German champion Tobias Reißmann also came up with an outstanding performance. The ladies’ competition quickly revealed that the defending Chill and Ride champion, Korina Smyrek, was the woman to beat.

The highlight of the day was surely the men‘s amateur competition. On a warm and sunny day and in front of a huge crowd the amateurs were competing for three entry spots for the pro contest. Alex Neuwirth showed massive KGBs and landed in third place. The places one and two went to the Swiss Andy Meyenberg and Marc Müller. Andy showed a extremely solid run with big spins and inverts and rightly took first place.

In the evening the first after-show party kicked off and the Chill and Ride DJs Jan and Daniel as well as SWR DAS DING provided the party-crowd with the right tunes to celebrate late into the
following morning hours.

The wakeboarding team challenge was the big competition on Saturday, while the hosts Harry and Sandro were entertaining the audience with informative and humorous commentating. Altogether
ten different crews had registered for the team challenge, but it became obvious quiet quickly that first place would be made out under the two teams of Sebastian Spielmann‘s WATERWORLDLAND.

Some of the big names which rode for the WATERWORLDLAND teams were the new european champion Dan Nott, the ‘Bavarian Machine‘ Bernhard Hinterberger and former world champion Robbie Rando from Argentina. In the end it was WATERWORLDLAND 1, consisting of Lucas Langlois, Dan Nott, Cyril Cornaro and Robbie Rando, that won the team challenge and the L‘TUR travel vouchers that came with it.
Sunday‘s competition started with the finals of the wakesurfing contests. Here no big surprises really happened and as supposed Korina Smyrek and Dominic Lagace dominated their competitors. Korina showed nice cuts and the highest airs and took home the victory in the ladies‘ contest. Dominic impressed with massively grabbed airs, insane spins, such as 1080s, and well performed skateboard manoeuvres such as Bigspins and Shuve-Its.

Next on the agenda were the qualifications of the men‘s pro contest. The performance-level was really high during the whole qualifications and many riders could please the numerous spectators.

However, it was Dan Nott from the United Kingdom, who was on top of his game and seemed to be the crowed‘s favourite. Along with Dan, Yann Calvez, Alex Neuwirth, Bernhard Hinterberger, Andy Meienberg, Lucas Langlois were the riders that made the cut into the final. While giving the men some rest, it was time for the ladies‘ final. Here it was a competition of the big names, which ended for Elke Venken with third place. It were Lauriane Masson and Robbie Rando who fought a close battle for victory. Both showed perfect rolls, spins and grabs, but in the
end it was Robbie who left the best impression on the judges and claimed first place.

The men‘s final started off with Alex Neuwirth, who unfortunately crashed early on during his run. Similarly, Lucas Langlois and Yann Calvez both seemed to have gotten on their nerves and could not fulfil high expectations. Bernhard Hinterberger, whose terrain is actually the cable, seized the opportunity and finished in third position by demonstrating huge frontflip tailgrabs, Whirlybirds and several different spins. Andy Meyenberg, who made his way all through the amateur‘s contest, surprised with a second place. He combined good tricks, including the KGB in a clean run and was only beaten by the outstanding performance of Dan Nott. Dan backed his excellent
performance throughout the qualifications with Whirlys, KGB and off-axis spins with good style and became the Chill and Ride champion 2010.

The incredible NISSAN Chill & Ride collection war also shown during the event – available now! All in all the Chill and Ride 2010 came to a happy end for everybody involved. It provided an eventful weekend and celebrated wakeboarding worthily. Therefore, big thanks go out to the sponsors NISSAN, WATERWORLDLAND and STAGE CONCEPT, the riders, the boat crews and everybody who helped to create this wonderful event.”

Hip-Notics, long known as one of the most beautiful places to ride, is hosting what is shaping up to be the largest cable world championship in history.

“Our early entries are through the roof,” says WWA chief Shannon Starling. “We chose Hip-Notics and Antalya to host the Wake Park Worlds for so many reasons — perfect conditions, proximity to Europe and the Middle East, and a great host organizer — but we never expected to see such a massive turnout. This is going to be one of the best contests and epic events in the history of cable.”

Is it time to see standing on the podium at the WWA Wake Park Nationals? We think so. If you’ve been riding like a cable rat all summer, or simply hit your nearest cable park’s obstacles a few times, you’ve got the chance to be crowned a National Champion. The WWA is calling all qualified riders (and that means any bona fide, card-carrying member of the World Wakeboard Association) to convene at the final stop of the Monster Energy Wake Park Triple Crown in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 17th.

The final stop is an open registration, meaning anyone can enter. Simply fill out at Registration Form by clicking here. Don’t delay — there are only a few days left until registration closes, and you don’t need to swallow a $50 late fee.

See you on the podium, .

A unique, new cable wakeboarding complex is set to open its doors in spring 2011 in Houston. The new family attraction will be called Wake Nation Houston and it is a cable wakeboarding park where riders can wakeboard, water ski and kneeboard WITHOUT A BOAT! At Wake Nation Houston we have eliminated a rider’s need for a boat by constructing an overhead cable system capable of towing up to 8 riders around our lake at speeds of 18-20 mph through a course of custom built jumps, grind rails and sliders.

Plans for the new water-sports complex, which will be located near Pearland, were announced today by Peter Kennedy, who is a partner in a similar cable wakeboarding park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Construction on the new Houston water-sports park will begin immediately with an anticipated opening in Spring, 2011.

“We are very excited about bringing the area’s only full-scale cable wakeboarding park to Houston,” Kennedy said, “and we look forward to joining the many great family attractions this area already has to offer.”

“Wakeboarding is the country’s fastest growing water sport,” said Mike Olson, Director of Business Development for the Wake Nation brand. “The cable system approach to wakeboarding and water skiing is particularly attractive to those without access to their own boats.” Since riders are pulled around the lake by an overhead cable system, there is no need for loud and often polluting motor boats, he added. Currently, there are only 10 full-scale cable wakeboarding parks in the U.S.

Wake Nation Houston will be located in Rosharon, near Pearland, south of the Sam Houston Parkway, 20 minutes from downtown Houston.

“Wake Nation Houston is being designed to provide the ultimate rider experience to both first timers and experienced boarders,” says Kennedy. “Beginners love that wakeboarding is fun, easy to learn, and allows everyone to progress at their own pace. Advanced riders love cable parks because of the unique opportunity to hit the many grind rails, ramps and floating jumps that are rarely accessible to those who ride behind boats.” Riders are welcome to bring their own gear to the park, or they can rent their equipment from us. The rental shop will include wakeboards, water-ski’s, kneeboards, helmets, life vests and wet suits all at reasonable pricing.

All riders must be at least 5 years of age and are required to wear a Coast Guard Approved (CGA) life vest and helmet.

Wake Nation Houston will be a “pay-as-you-play” facility. Parking and admission to the water sports complex will be FREE, including access to a large outdoor observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the entire lake area. Riders will pay only for “water time,” typically around $25 for two hours. The Wake Nation complex will also have a full pro shop, concessions area and numerous other services and amenities. Wake Nation will offer special group rates and several season pass options.

Wake Nation Cincinnati opened in May 2009 to rave reviews from the local community as well as professional wakeboarders worldwide. The venue has already hosted several nationally sanctioned tournaments, won several “best of” awards and this past June set a Guinness World Record for longest distance traveled on a wakeboard in a 24-hour period.

Wakeboard center Cable Krk will be hosting the first „Cable Krk Jam“, taking place from the 3rd till 5th of September in the bay of Punat on the island Krk. A dynamic entertaining sports spectacle combining wakeboarding, skateboarding and graffiti art along with appearances by renown DJs from the region.

The backbone of this creative project is the Cable wakeboard and wakeskate championship in with about fifty participants from Croatia and Slovenia competing for the prestigious title of national champions.

This will be the seventh Croatian wakeboard championship and the results will be scored for a final order of the Croatian wakeboard tour (Crikvenica-Krk-Pag-Porec) and for the world IWWF ranking list with prize money of 120,000 USD.

The event will be accompanied by DJ Preddy (Personal rec.) from Austria, DJ K-Pow from Slovenia and DJ Sony Wokman and DJ Jericho both members of the Balance Crew from Rijeka, who will be spicing the atmosphere with sounds of hip hop, R’n'B, funk and reggae.

Skateboarders will be showing off their skills on a mini ramp located on the parking facility, and the graffiti writers will be portraying the retaining wall on highway D-102 (Krk-Baska) right next to the Wakeboard centre Cable Krk. In collaboration with Club Jungle in Krk, the popular R’n'B Exclusive party will be held on 4th September. A well known group from Rijeka “Fanatiks” will also be recording a song called ”Cable Krk Jam”, uplifting the whole event together.

The event organizers are non-profit organizations ”Wakeboard club Krk” and “Balance” from Rijeka. The goal of this project is the affiliation of wakeboarders, skateboarders, graffiti artists and all other admirers of music, fashion and this whole lifestyle which makes this event a unique weekend of sports and entertainment.

Hamburg, my action sports capital! Sunday, the 29th of August, saw a lot of amazing things happening at the third stop of the WWA Wake Park World Series 2010, which took place at the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds premises in Pinneberg’s Waterski Arena. In front of roughly 5.000 fans, 32 top athletes of the disciplines Wakeboard and Wakeskate Cable, as well as BMX Miniramp, battled it out for the prize purse of 40.000 US-Dollars. 17-year-old Frederic von Osten delivered the wakeboarding sensation by putting the complete world elite behind himself. In the wakeskating department, 17-year-old Tarik Ghoniem (Newhouse/Cuxhaven) secured his first place, while last year’s BMX Miniramp winner Mark Webb simply did it again, just better. The right type of music for this kind of entertainment was provided by Millencolin, Sublime with Rome and headlining act Gentleman!

A perfect sensation! Frederic „Freddy“ von Osten, 17 years of age, beats the complete wakeboarding world elite, including two times World Champion Nick Davies (UK) and Tom Fooshee (USA) – who was unbeaten in Hamburg for the last three years. Being a local completely paid off for Freddy. This amazing talent had the following tricks in his winning run: Mobe and Crow Mobe 5, Frontside 700 over the Kicker, Frontside 450 Transfer on the skatebox, 5 Roll to Blind, Olli on the rail, 315 and a Switch Tailglide over the kicker! The wakeskaters had their share of excitement as well, as the final was an all German one. Acting IWWF Junior World Champion Tarik Ghoniem clearly was the strongest contestant, leaving Moritz Thiele (Berlin), Lukas Süß (Duisburg) and Jan Grabski (Giessen) to take ranks two to four.

Last year’s winner Mark Webb (UK) did it again and took the first place easily. Michael Beran (CZE) and Ben Wallace (UK) shredded into positions two and three.

Another gem of the day were the Best Trick competitions, and they were British all the way: Alex Coleburn (BMX Miniramp) and Nick Davies (Wakeboard Cable) went most berserk and took their titles to the noise of an amazed crowd.

In between competitions, the festival stage delivered the matching sounds. Swedish punk rockers Millencolin opened the musical program with their second appearance at the Telekom Playgrounds and got the crowd going really good. But when Sublime with Rome entered the stage, the crowd immediately turned into one happy monster. Founded in the nineties, the legendary ska-punk band returned onto a European stage after 14 years of absence, featuring their new singer Rome. The grand sound finale was delivered by headlining act Gentleman. Germany’s most successful Reggae artist delivered songs like “Different Places”, “Intoxication” and his current single “To The Top”, and brought a lot of musical sunshine, making everyone forget that it was actually raining.

“It could not have been any better“, organizer Lars-Oliver Vogt of NICE Productions GmbH is happy to say. “I feel very honored that Sublime with Rome played their first European gig after 14 years at the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds. Hamburg has the best audience in the World! They stayed until the end, despite the rain!”

All the highlights of the Telekom Playgrounds can be seen on Sport1, September 11th, 13:00h.

Telekom Playgrounds winner Frederic von Osten will be a guest at TV Total on Pro7 on Wednesday, September 1st, 23:15h.

Here we have final results… It was hard to beat, but in front of Tom Fooshee was definitively pressure, being 3rd time champ at TEP. Mobe 5 that time was hard trick, now every kid is doing. He got definitively two young ones in front, beating his trick and putting too much pressure. He didnt finish his both runs in a finals. Nikky Guehrs had both stand up runs showing he is the most consistant rider in this season! But it wasnt enough. Freddy von Osten had more technichal tricks in his run… whirly 5 against 9 on the final kicker… it was hard decision for judges. Lior Sofer got 3rd place having stand second run stand up… Not so technical tricks, but definitively grabbing all he could… One of the riders who is now for longer time in a scene, showed he is hard to beat… so here it goes:

1. Freddy von Osten (GER)

2. Nicky Guehrs (GER)

3. Lior Sofer (ISR)

4. Tom Fooshee (USA)
