How To Add A Contact Form To Your Blog

Have you always wanted a Contact form which would automatically redirect your readers' messages to your e-mail (inbox)? Adding a neat ads-free Contact Form to your blog is simple. You can get a whole lot of free form providers over the internet. But my personal favorite is FormSmarts. And here in this post, I shall discuss how to set up a Contact Form in your blog using FormSmarts free forms. Click on my Contact link on the top navigation menu to see a demo.

Firstly, set up your free account in FormSmarts [formsmarts.com]. After the registration process is over, log in to your account and click on My Forms. This will take you to a page almost similar to the one shown below:

Fill up the necessary fields - Name of Form, Instructions, etc. For Return URL field, you may simply enter your blog url or a thank you page in your blog. Save it for now. Once you're done saving, your incomplete form will appear right on top of the fields you just filled up. [Refer to the pic below].

Click on Add Fields Now. This will take you to the actual form creator. Add all the fields you want to. Example - Name, E-mail, Message, etc. [See pic below]

Once you're done adding necessary fields and indicating their respective field types, click on the Forms tab (top left). There you will see something like the picture shown below. [The white rectangular area will not appear in your page; I'm only keeping it to hide my other forms].

Click on View to preview your form. Mine is shown below:

If you're not satisfied, you can make changes by clicking on the Edit button which is indicated by a Pencil sign. When you're finally done with the necessary changes, select and copy the Form Code/Script. The Code/Script is to the left of the View link.

Now, open your Blogger Dashboard and create a new Post. You can have the title of the post as Contact or anything. And within the post content area, Paste the Code/Script you copied from the previous step. You can also add any other text you want to within the content area. Publish and link it to your Contact link in the Navigation Menu.

I always thought having expandable posts is cool. I still think it's cool. In fact, I've quite given a try to adding one such for my blog. Several times. But I never could quite get even close to it. But I think I've finally done it. Or have I? This post is a test to see if the 'Read Full Post' (expandable post summary) which I'd just added really works.

Instructions on how to do the complete set up is given in eBlog Templates [click here]. Let me know if it works for you. I hope mine is working. I'm going to check it out now. I'm going to end this post.

Desperate Measures For Desperate Times

A month from now, I'd have completed my 3^rd year in college. Then my entire future would be decided by the outcome of the events that are to happen in the 4^th year (7^th semester).

The economic crisis continues. Word is software companies will not be coming for campus recruitment before the 8^th semester. Core companies will probably start recruiting next semester though. And word is only the best students will be selected - which I definitely am not one.

The National Institute of Technology(NIT), Jamshedpur, my dear college, may certainly not be the best in the land, but it has been boasting of a 100% campus placement since a few years back. That is, all final year students would've got at least one job offer, some bagging as many as three offers, from both private companies and public sector units by the time they finally graduate.

And it could very well have gone on as it used to - a 100% placement - and I could very well have been assured knowing there's a job offer waiting for me three months from now. I could, had not the ugly face of economic depression show up.

Some firms won't hire for the next 10 months. Some, we don't know if they'd ever come to our college. The few that will be coming would have to hire the best of the best from my batch. Competition will be strong.

Competition will be harsh, I know, and yet I'm still writing a blog post. Writing a blog post and wasting my time. Yes, a waste!

A waste because I'm not that kind of person who could do two things at a time. I never can quite shuffle two balls at a time however much I try. If I write a blog post, that's what I do. My mind is in it. And coming out of that blogging world is not easy. If I turn on my computer, there's no turning it off until I've spent at the very least about 5 hours staring into it. If I indulged myself in a reverie, I dwell in the reverie until it ends with a happy ending. I am a freak and I love being one.

So, blogging could pretty much adversely affect my studies and my future as a whole. Which is why I've decided to stop blogging for a long time. I've decided to halt all nonsense activities and, for once, get real, act like a student (which I am). It's my life that's in question; I'm not going to take chances.

I'll check my inbox and scrapbook from time to time. And that's about all I'll be doing with the internet, I hope.

Because steel companies are the major recruiters for my branch, I'd have to re-learn all those boring processes of steelmaking, iron-making, petroleum refining...all those boring metallurgical crap. And given my so-called love for computers and programming, I'd have to learn the major programming languages like C, C++, Java, etc to get into software companies. All within 2 to 3 months!!! To worsen the already hopeless situation, I'd have to do a two-month summer training (internship) this summer [May - June] as part of the academic curriculum.

And bagging a job offer while in college is more than important for me. It's a necessity. A necessity given my current financial status and the fact that I won't last in an off-campus recruitment process.

Copyrights are owned by Brian Gardner of Studio Press under the GNU Creative Commons License or whatever (I don't really know the stuffs. :D) What matters though is that Brian has given me the permission to "go for it". And walla, here it is the Revolution Elements Blogger theme available for free download!

Given the time and labor spent on converting this theme from its Wordpress counterpart and on certain modifications, I thought I'd make it a premium template, maybe sell it for some few dollars. But I decided otherwise because this is my first Blogger template ever; I want to know how it's doing. So please do give your honest comments and most importantly, report any broken links or deviations from the Demo Site.

If you're looking for an Adsense optimised template, I'm afraid this Revolution Elements Blogger template might just not be the right one for you. Of course, you can display any number of ads you wish to. But this template is more about the looks than mere money-making. And I have to say it looks better with fewer ads. If you must however, image ads with proper customization are just the right ads (so I opine!). :)

The Tutorials

Setting up the top Horizontal Menu:

Go to your Blogger Dashboard > Layout > Edit HTML

Within the Edit Template section, scroll down towards the end and look for the following code within the <body> and </body> tags.:

If you can't find it, try pressing CTRL + F and type "LINK1". That is sure to take you to the desired location.

Now, make necessary changes to the Menu by changing the "LINKs", "LINK DESCRIPTIONs" and "LINK URL HEREs". You don't have to add the "Home" link, it has already been added.

Remember, the link to the right of "Home" is LINK1. LINK4 is the last link in the Menu. Don't try to add more than these 4+1 links, it will mess up the looks of the Navigation Menu as the background image is fixed.

Make necessary changes to the capitalised values, i.e, your "BLOGNAME.blogspot.com" and "TWITTER-USERNAME". If you want to change the menu header for your twitter updates from "TWEETS" to anything, just replace "TWEETS" (at the top) with it.

Setting up the "Read More":
The required code within the body of the HTML <body> tag has been added in the template. All you have to do now is go to Dashboard > Settings > Formatting and do the following:

Scroll down to the last option "Post Template" and paste the following code:

<span class="fullpost"> </span>

Yes, retain the space in between. Once you're done it should look something like this:

Now, save your settings and try posting a new blog post. You will notice that the editor area already contains the <span> tags necessary to bring about the "Read full post" feature.
Anything put above the <span class="fullpost"> tag would appear as the 'teaser text' in the final post. And anything below it will be invisible in the final post when viewed from the homepage.

Setting up the Picture Ads:

Go to Dashboard > Layout > Page Elements

On the right side of the page you will see the sidebar widgets like the one shown in the adjoining picture:

Click on the edit link of Sponsors and insert the following code in the content area:

<table border="0" class="table_ads"> <tr><td> Insert code for Picture Ad#1 here </td><td> Insert code for Picture Ad#2 here </td></tr> <tr><td> Insert code for Picture Ad#3 here </td><td> Insert code for Picture Ad#4 here </td></tr> </table>

Insert the respective codes for your Picture Ads or Referral Image Ads, preferably of size 125x125 pixels. Don't change anything except the texts "Insert code for Picture Ad here".

Save it and you're done.

Blozard - An Intro

Blozard comes from 'Blogger' + 'Wizard'. :)

This blog hopes to answer all blog issues, focussing mainly on Blogger blogs, from choosing between the thousands of templates downloadable from the internet or in uploading such, or from customizing the templates to setting up widgets.

Do a google search on 'blogger templates' or anything the like and you're bound to get thousands of results. Let's face it, not all of the templates created or converted from other sources meet the 'ok' standard.

This blog is an attempt to resolve such issues. I intend to review all (or most) of the free blogger templates available in the internet, modify the said templates (in some cases) and provide links and reviews of the templates I feel are the best. Wait, not just the best...the bestest!!

I shall also upload my own templates (converted from Wordpress and, sometimes, original creation) from time to time.

ALSO, I WILL BE BLOGGING ABOUT MANY OTHER THINGS. :)
