Big Wheel at Mall of Asia!

Last December, I had a chance to see this site at Mall of Asia. It is so far the largest Ferris wheel in the Philippines - it is so huge and I am pretty amazed with its hugeness. You will see yourself like in the other country, like in UK and Singapore. :) But don't compare the size, okay?

At night, this huge wheel is lit. Since, it was Christmas season, it's like a giant lantern at the see side. :) It changes its colors and beautifully crafted. It just operated last month and they say, it has air-conditioning. I hope to go back here and ride in it. :)

Since I am from Davao City, I do hope that there will be a big wheel placed at the downtown area. It will surely be a huge break in the city. :) Tourists will surely flock the city and boost more its tourism industry. Travelers and alike will surely love the place as the city's horizon will be very at view. :)

New Year's Eve Celebration

I celebrated the New Year alone but it doesn't mean I am sad. I welcomed the year with a blast as well. Look at the photo above, it's a sweet celebration, just like a birthday party. :) Just like any other rituals, it is also present at the table then the food are sweet. I am pretty sure that this will be a very sweet year. :)

5 Ways to Serve Great Food Without Knowing a Single Thing About Cooking

With the immense number of recipes that can be found online and in books, it is easy for individuals to learn how to cook on their own. Even if they have never been through actual culinary training, they can prepare their own food and be proud of it. Thanks to these sources, anyone can be a home cook and get their meals done in less than 30 minutes. By knowing some plating tips, the served food can look ten times more appetizing than it really is.

Here are 5 ways to serve great food without knowing a single thing about cooking, and have fun in kitchen at the same time:

#1- Use Plain Plates

No matter how tempting it is to buy intricately designed China, it is always best to work with plain plates. You can reserve intricate designs for plain dishes that cannot be spruced up. In addition, choose plates that come in a plain color white. This is a general color that will work with any dish you come up with. However, if you have white colored dishes, a good option is to use a rustic terracotta plate to highlight the hue.

#2- Size of the Plate

To be truthful, the size of the plate depends on your preference. While there are many who opt to fill a small plate with food, there are others who choose to have a large plate. You can choose whichever size of plate you want as long as you keep the food in the center. It should not overflow and appear like a gooey mess.

#3- Plate Presentation

Before you start plating, always see to it that the plate is scrupulously clean. During plating, it is common that you will move food around the plate. Make sure that you remove the marks and drips with a kitchen towel. This will make your plate spotless!

#4- Positioning Food

When you plate food, it is important that you keep the main part of the dish in the front. Ensure that the garnish or sauce is positioned in the back or side so that it does not steal the attention of the diner. The best way to do this is to place the main dish first before adding the garnish.

#5- Use Garnishes

If you plan to garnish your plate, keep them nice and simple. A sprig of fresh parsley or coriander leaves is a great garnish to a colorful dish. For salads, pick out the best lettuce slices in the bunch. Love your meal and put design to it, even none expensive meals deserve this.

Even if you don’t have proper knowledge on cooking, you can make your food look extra appetizing by following the tips mentioned. Think of cooking as a game, think of cooking games where you can always have fun without fears. So experiment and enjoy cooking!

Long or Short Hair?!!

I grew my hair from July until first week of October. Then, it looked like the photo on the left. While my hair right now is the one at the right.

Which do you think is better? lol

Growing one's hair is not so hard, but when you are going outside your house with strong winds - good luck to your hair. :) Mirrors are not available at an instant. It turns out to be a new hair fashion. lol

Having a short hair will be better. You will even feel lighter and only few concerns on the hair arrangement.

Well, it depends on your reason why you grow your hair. Just enjoy your hair, it can also be your protection against sunlight. lol

World's Largest Colony of Bats!

Do you know batman? Of course, it's not me yet many of us know him... But is he for real? He should have been here... :) AT THE WORLD's LARGEST COLONY OF BATS - MONFORT CAVE!!!

It is estimated to have 1.8 million bats inside the cave. Before the darkness comes, all these bats fly! Wow! Isn't it exciting? You will experience these bats cover the whole place as they fly from the cave. It's a very beautiful work of nature.

It's morning when we go there yet the bats are still flying around while others are sleeping.

In the conservatory, there are 5 holes where you can see the bats. You can see the bats from those wholes. Just an advise, visiting the Monfort caves, you have to bring a hand towel to cover your nose aside from a handkerchief. It is because the place is very aromatic, it might stress your nose. :)

So far, the Monfort Bat Cave is recognized by the Guinness World of Records to have the most number of fruit bats estimated 1.8 million as of 2006. How many are these right now? :) Anyways, visiting Davao Region, it's a must see! Visit Samal Island and ride with a habal going to Monfort Bat Cave. There's an entrance fee of 40 pesos for its conservatory. :)

Every year, October is the feast of beer men. Yes, it is the beer flooding month. A lot of people are rejoicing over a bottle of beer or even splash with it.

Aside from that, it's a special month for me. It's my birth month! I am glad that a lot of people are celebrating my birth month. It is even a month round celebration every where in the world.

This is a time of rejoicing. A time of remembering good memories of the past year that happen. So, for all who celebrate with me and the beer men, CHEERS!

FIFA will Sponsor Building a Football Pitch in Mindanao

Yipee! I read a great news from Manila Bulletin dated March 3, 2011 and the news goes like this - i quote.

"FIFA to finance Mindanao pitch

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Football Federation is looking at building a football pitch in Mindanao under the International Football Federation (FIFA) grant hoping the move will create a bigger base for Philippine football and encourage grassroots development for the sport.

PFF president Mariano "Nonong" Araneta told the Bulletin yesterday that the association is now looking for a viable site.

The construction of the regular pitch will be financed through the Goal Project 5 of FIFA, which will grant the Philippines a $500,000 (P21.7 million) donation for the purpose.

To get approval of the FIFA grant, the PFF must find a donor of a land who will allow the association to use it for at least 30 years for free.

"We have already sent letters to the football associations in Mindanao asking them if they are interested to have the pitch and if they could find a donor for the land," Araneta said yesterday, adding that the PFF has given them until March 20 to reply.

Bukidnon and Davao are the leading candidates for the football pitch.

Araneta said he's hoping to find a donor within the next few months or before FIFA holds a meeting on Goal

Project proposals in October, so a Memorandum of Agreement can be signed.

The announcement of a possible Mindanao pitch came a day after FIFA approved the PFF's proposal to build an artificial pitch in Parañaque City in a 4.5-hectare of land donated by El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde."

Dark Clouds in Davao City

Before the dark night falls, March 4, 2011, the dark clouds were there covering the city of Davao.

It is not new in the city - having dark rain clouds at night and a hot day in the morning. Blessed, right? It is better than having a wet morning and warm night (who can sleep at night with that? lol).

The photo is taken from 5th floor of Landco Corporate Center. The photos shows the first big mall in the city in the early 1990's and a food chain at the right side. This is along the J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada, Davao City.

Many has been so fascinated with effects put in a movie. This movie will never disappoint you with it. Especially the palms with lights (could you imagine a person with a built in flash light? lol).

Anyways, the story focuses on warriors from another planet. These warriors (coded with numbers) have special characteristics for combat. They combat to evil aliens who try to kill them. Hmmmm... I don't want to spoil the story... hahaha Better watch the movie and for sure, the movie has a sequel. lol

Chocolate Titans

An ice dessert enthusiast would really enjoy giant ice servings at Ice Giants. It comes in three different servings, and the one that you see above is the Chocolate Titans. It is a serving composed of a chocolate theme: chocolate pillows, brownies, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sticks and colorful mallows. Hmmmm... I, as a sweet tooth and chocoholic person, I superbly enjoyed it. :)

Anyone of you has a sweet tooth and loves chocolates so dearly? This dessert will not frustrate your taste buds. The ice would melt unto your mouth to savor this very enticing cold dessert. :)

Scuba Experience in Davao Gulf, Okay?

SCUBA (self contained underwater breathing apparatus)

When we are doing SCUBA, we cannot utter words. We only use hand signals. :) The photo at the right side shows an OKAY sign. Out from the water, people would usually use this sign as money.

Actually, there are 4 basic signs that a person, who wants to dive, should know. 1) THUMBS UP - that is going up. 2) THUMBS DOWN - that is going down. 3) JUST LIKE IN THE PICTURE - that is okay. 4) HANDS PALM DOWN AND SWAYING - that is problem.

I experienced this dive last year. I will try it once again this year. SCUBA diving is a fun adventure that any individual should not be afraid of, especially concerning about swimming. It is because SCUBA diving is not primarily swimming. For intro divers like me, the thing that we should always put into our minds while diving is breathe through the mouth. Then, a master diver will be there to maneuver the floater as we go deeper the vast scene of the Davao Gulf or any dive sites in the Philippines.

Try this remarkable moment in your life. Enjoy the scene that the Davao dive sites can offer. :)

Feast of Sto. Nino in Davao City

It is the feast of the Sr. Sto. Nino in the Philippines and in the world. Here in Davao City, I never thought of a street celebration on this feast.

While riding on a taxi going home from the downtown Davao, I saw some of these people parading along R. Castillo Avenue of this city to show their devotion to Sr. Sto. Nino. I am really amazed of what they're doing, carrying images of the Sto. Nino and parading even it's a very hot afternoon.

With this, I thought I need to go to Cebu City to experience or see a parade like this. Somehow, even the group that is having the parade is small, I can say, Pit Senor!!! Viva Sr. Sto. Nino!!!

Color flashes of the sunset!

It is said that this place of the earth is only the 30% of the whole planet. Underwater is the 70%. Hmmmm... We may always see the 30% of the world, the colors out the water surface are so amazing as well. :)

This year, I am often fascinated with the colors in the sky. It's either early in the morning or late afternoon. I can't resist it, it's often what I see beautiful up in the sky that my camera can clearly capture. :) This is one of the reasons why I still continue to smile amidst life struggles. Thank you, Lord, for the magnificent creation. The world may be industrialized, the works of God is still the biggest masterpiece. :)

The Peaceful Sunset Rays

One of the best sunset rays I've ever seen. :)

Do you do the hand peace sign? Hmmm... If you do, the rays somehow do it as well. These are peaceful sunset rays for me.

Opppsss... This year is the year of the metal rabbit. If you try to look at the rays of the sun, a resemblance of a rabbit is formed. :)

Sun Shines in Davao!

The new year was celebrated with rain in many parts of the Philippines. Here in Davao, there were reports of flood because of the continuous rain in the countryside.

Early this morning, I am very happy to see the sun shining once again (yipee! our laundry will get dry today! lol). I just hope that the sun will continuously shine today to ease the anxiety of having more floods and state of calamity in the country.

Hmmmm... It's a greeting of a new year! There is always a light after a tunnel. :)
