Yahoo Mail is the email service provided by Yahoo. I started using Yahoo! Mail many years ago when I first started using the internet, it is the first email address I got.

It has since had a number of updates to it and will be describing the latest and current version of it in this review.

It's free to sign up from the yahoo.com homepage by clicking on the 'Mail' tab. Once registered and you sign in, this takes you straight to the inbox.

The Inbox has a simple layout with your mail inbox in the center of the page and several tabs on the left: 'Inbox', Drafts','Sent', 'Spam', 'Trash', 'Contacts', Calendar', 'Notepad' and 'Folders'.

'Drafts': If you start typing a message and decided to save it for later, it would be saved in this folder and you can return to this folder later and resume the draft and send the email.

'Spam' : This holds all emails that get sent to this folder once you indicate that they are 'spam' by selecting the option in the email once you open it in your inbox.

'Contacts': This is also your 'address book' and this holds all your email contacts that you can add manually by selecting the 'add contact' option or some are added after you send an email; when you send an email, you get an option that indicates that some of the contacts you have sent to are not in your inbox and you can add them that way.
You can also create contact lists by using the 'add list' option in the folder.

'Calendar': You can use this to organise your daily events and tasks using the 'add event' and 'add task' options just like you'd do with your diary and this is handy as you can access it anywhere you have online access.

'Notepad' is just like your normal notepad in the accessories of your PC where you can type notes to refer to later or even add links you'd like to come back to later by using the 'add note' option and I guess this would be more handy if you're on the move a lot, I personally use it to add site links I'd like to check later say when I have more time or if I am at work and there's links I want to check when I get home.

'My Folders': This you can use to group your emails into folders by using the 'add' option; e.g I have folder names like 'Important' which I use to store all sign up passwords and user IDs for other sites I am on, 'Follow Up' and 'Payments' which I use to store all my email notifications of payments into my PayPal account. Helps you save time sifting through your inbox if you are in a hurry.

'Message Search': Yahoo Mail has a search tool at the top of the folders on the leftwhich you can use to search through your email folders just like you would in 'Outlook' and this again saves you time looking for particular emails among the many you may have in your folders.

To type a new message you click the option 'New' at the top too and this opens up a new window with a small tool bar which consists of the 'Send', 'Attach' for attachments, 'Save Draft', 'Spelling' for a spell-check in whatever language is on the drop-drown list and 'Cancel' options.
There's another Word format toolbar at the bottom of the To:, Cc: and Subject: fields which you can use to format your email just like you would in MS Word with font style, size and colours, alignment, adding hyperlinks and there's also 'smiley faces'.

Yahoo Mail increased the amount of storage you could have about a year or so back and now you do not have to delete any emails from your inbox and that is one of the advantages.
It is also simple to use - very user-friendly, easy to navigate, it's fast, you can send and receive attachments, there's the other features like the calendar and address book that come in handy and it is FREE!

One of the more noticeable disadvantages with Yahoo is the amount of junk/spam mail you receive and in comparison to my gmail account, I'd say a lot more spam goes through Yahoo mail.

Google chrome is a new generation browser developed right from the basic design. It is developed to cater to the needs of the present day's web pages. Also it is free to download and use. It has many features which are missing in the other web browsers we use. What i like in Chrome are:

COMMON FEATURES

(1) Tabbed : Tabbed browsing is possible as in other browsers. I would have been disappointed had this feature not been there.

(2) Search from address bar : Type anything in address bar and Google (default) will search for it. You can also select any other search engine you want. You can also add any search engine not in that list. This is purely user friendly.

(3) Application shortcuts : Application shortcuts can be used to directly load your favorite applications form the browser.

(4) Password manager : Inbuilt password manager is provided to remember your login passwords fro different sites. Special security management has been used to prevent password theft.

(5) Instant Bookmark : Bookmark or remove bookmark instantly by clicking the bookmark (star) button close to the address bar. Its very simple ti use.

(6) Download manager : A built-in download manager is there in Chrome which helps download files faster and without breakages. Download is faster and reliable than Internet explorer, Opera and firefox. I use all four of them.

(7) Dynamically movable tabs : Drags the tabs anywhere you want and rearrange the tabs to help you. This is more like playing a card game. Keep playing by dragging.

(8) Import settings : There are options to import setting from other browsers. Isn't it easy. You need not have to set them again here.

(9) Import or Export bookmarks : Import bookmarks from other browsers or from html files. Similarly you can export bookmarks to an independent html file.

(10) Recent visits : This feature is there in Firefox and Opera in different forms. Chrome gives the list of a few recently closed tabs. This can be used to reopen a website we closed by accident.

(11) For todays websites : This you would have read in newspapers or websites. Today's websites use more of java and flash. The present day's browsers were developed many decades ago after which only incremental changes were made. So they are not suitable to handle today's trend of websites. This requires rewriting of the browser codes right from the basic to handle today's and the future's websites better. That is what Google has done and has given it as Chrome.

SPECIAL FEATURES - available in Chrome only

(1) Task manager for browser : This is very different to hear the name of a task manager for a browser. But Chrome has come up with this unique concept. This facility helps manage the various websites we are visiting. We can monitor the memory used and can also end the browsing of certain websites.

(2) Crash control : Wow... this is a unique feature and i was really stunned when i first experienced it. Everyone would have experienced this horrible thing. I used to open a lot of tabs while browsing. Suddenly when the browser crashes or hangs, it would really frustrate me. Its not because i will have to visit those sites again but because i would have lost some of the links as the browser crashed. This would mean a double work. I would have to start the search all over again.
Now such a pain is releaved by Chrome. When a particular website hangs, the tabs related to that site aloe can be safely closed while the browser is still active for further browsing. This can be done using the browser task manager.

(3) Browsing history : I am really amazed with this option. I browsed the other day and wanted to search for one of the sites. i lost the name of the site. I could only remember some key word that i used to search. I would have not got the url again had i used some other browser. Other browsers have got search option for history but they search only the url or the website title. But in Chrome it is entirely different. It searches the contents of the page also. So why you need to remember when Google is there to search for you.

(4) Memory management : You can view the memory used by each of the tabs and plugins running in each page. If other browsers are running simultaneously you can also compare the memory usage with other browsers, right from chrome.

(5) Faster browsing : I mean this. I have all the four browsers in my PC and i am used to all these browsers. I have found that Chrome which is a multi-processing browser provides much faster browsing experience than the IE, opera or firefox.

(6) Safe browsing : There are many safety measures incorporated in Chrome which will make browsing safer and secured. It warns every time we are about to enter unsafe website.

(7) Search website : Now you can search for websites right from the address bar. If you visit a site which has an option search in its url then Chrome will identify and add it to your search engine list so that you perform search in that search engine right from your address bar. Isn't it made easy.

(8) Dynamic address bar options : As you type in address bar, the Chrome searches your history and bookmarks for possible urls matching the text typed. Say you type "gma" for gmail then you will see gmail.com as an option below the address bar to help you navigate easily.
Also options like "Search google for gma", Gmail (from bookmarks), google.com/gmail, ... also are shown to help easy navigation.

(9) Incognito window : I don't understand the meaning of this name but this is one way to improve privacy. Open pages in incognito window to avoid them from entering the history. This help in improving privacy.

SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

The acronym "SEO" can also refer to "search engine optimizers," a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. AdSense: Google's AdSense program lets you sell advertising space for other people's ads on your website--and not just any ads that Google chooses, but ads that are relevant to your site's content pages. The service is free, and you earn money every time someone clicks on an ad.

AdSense is a great program, though Google has given it a confusing name. If they'd called it AdSpace, you'd know right away what it's about: selling advertising space on your website. Despite the nomenclature issue, AdSense (www.google.com/adsense) has become popular with bloggers and other people who run noncommercial sites. You sign up, carve out some space on your pages for the ads (Figure 1), paste a few lines of code from Google into the HTML for your site, and let Google fill in your pages with color-coordinated ads. When somebody clicks one of the ads, Google pays you a fee (the amount varies, and the company doesn't disclose its payments).

Note: AdSense can be tricky for e-commerce sites because you can't fully control which ads appear on your site, and you wouldn't want to run ads for your competitors' merchandise right next to your own displays. You can, however, filter out some ads.

Though you can't decide which ads appear on your site, Google does a very nice job of assessing your pages and supplying ads that might interest your visitors. For example, if you run a site about the history of window treatments, Google is likely to dish up ads for vintage blinds and specialty curtain rods. That kind of relevance is important, because Google doesn't pay you when somebody sees an ad on your site; it pays you when somebody clicks an ad. So you want Google to fill your space with blurbs likely to interest your readers.

The $64,000 question is, of course, how much can you make? The exact answer is: it depends. If your site gets tons of visitors, and you focus on a narrow topic, there's a good chance Google will serve up ads that appeal to a lot of people hitting your site. For example, if you run a popular site devoted to mobile gadgetry, you might make enough to buy a new device every few months. If your site gets sporadic traffic, or more important, if it's not clearly about something, it may be hard for Google to supply highly relevant ads, and you might make enough to cover a box of paper clips every so often.

How to control third-party ads shown on your site

Optimizing your site to allow third-party ads
To allow third-party ads on your site:

Opt into image ads - Currently, third-party ads are only available in image or Flash, so they won't appear in text-only ad units.
Enable advertisers to target your AdSense channels - Most advertisers who use third-party ads are brand-conscious. They prefer to specify websites where their ads will appear in order to optimize the targeting and effectiveness of their campaigns.
Opt into placement targeting - Placement targeting will allow advertisers to target their ads specifically to your site.

Following these steps will enable your site to accept third-party ads. However, we can't guarantee where or when third-party ads will appear on your site.

Is Really Long Content Beneficial?

There are often people that get into disputes about what type of content is the best for their site. For some, brief content is the best, while for others, the best content is the lengthy content, that contains "multiple posts" by other standards.

Now, it may be impossible for me to analyze your site and determine what type of content works best for you within a minute of stumbling upon your site, but over the course of several weeks, you will have to analyze which type of content works best for you, and this can also depend on the amount of time that you put into your site.

For someone that doesn't have much time to put into their site (less than half an hour per day), you will typically find a single post per week or less, especially if they plan on writing a single long post, or at least one extremely short, but well thought out post per day.

People with more time to put into their blog will undoubtedly have more content within each post, sometimes spanning multiple pages.

One of the mains reasons that you want to focus on building posts with a lot of content is that you will be able to increase the number of keywords and phrases that are pointing into your site. You want them to appear in there, but not appear obvious to your readers. It is easy if you write a post with three sentences to be "obvious" about your keywords, while it is very discrete when you are able to disperse them throughout two thousand words.

Secondly, readers often take more time to read longer content. Now, you could also say that they don't have the time to read it, but when you write longer content, it makes it apparent that you are serious about what you are doing, and your subscribers will be, too. A second point on the same subject is that your readers will probably click through to your products or services or advertisements if you have them placed in a strategic position. Otherwise, you won't have much to look forward to - if you are in it for the money.

Finally longer content can help you reap more benefits down the road, including the ability to work for larger blogs, become more knowledgeable about certain topics, and connect with your readers - these are all indirect, but quite noteworthy.

No matter how you feel about lengthy content, be certain that you employ it properly on your site, or you will see undesired results and will have the exact opposite effects your were looking for. Split your sentences/paragraphs so your content isn't in a single block, make sure you add headings, and involve your readers into your content.

Unless you have huge plans of creating a social network or website that requires an advanced back-end area or features beyond what is included with many hosting providers, there will be a solution out there for you.

As long as you are able to copy and paste image links (when embedding images and video into your content) and have the desire to create unique content, you can get started today. It might only take three minutes to sign up for a Blogger or WordPress (more limitations) account, but you'll be able to begin marketing your blog within a few days of posting content.

Even if you need more resources (you want to be sure you don't have to transfer after a brief period of time), you can go with a paid service, which will dramatically increase what you can do and may even give you a free .com name. Many "value" hosts are between $5 and $15 per month, coming out to between $60 and $180 per year, again depending on what you are looking for.

As soon as you have ensured that your blog is being indexed, you'll probably begin noticing traffic coming in. You can, at this point begin monetizing your blog, as you will have potential customers and people who will be clicking on ads.

After that, it is ultimately up to you as to how you market and promote your blog. Every blog and website is different, so I couldn't present generalizations within a few lines at this point. Given all the opportunities and options out there, why not start a blog today?!

Great SERP Rankings Aren't Always Necessary

People have unnecessarily believed that it is necessary to get top search engine rankings, while I find this only partially true. As you create content on your site, you will find that more people are returning and visiting multiple pages per visit. Through search engines, it is almost always difficult to get people to visit multiple sites, unless they are clicking the relevant links under your title (and, this would mean that you have a well-indexed site).

For those of you who think that the only way to get a good source of income from search engines is to "dominate" the rankings, this might be a wake-up call: search engines aren't everything. Looking at income sources, yes, they do account for between a quarter to half or more of your traffic, but just because it is an easy way to get traffic, you have to realize that the visitors aren't necessarily looking to stay on your site.

Going elsewhere, the best place by far to get traffic is through links within other sites. By targeting sites that may be of interest to your visitors will provide a continuous stream of fresh traffic, from people who wouldn't have normally found your site.

Having high search engine rankings can do you well in the beginning, but over the long-term, you want to focus on the traffic that has the lowest bounce rate, highest return rate (low number of "new" visitors), and traffic/people who stay on your site for more than a few seconds.

Google has a system in place that rewards sites that might not do as well, and gives them a better ranking on the SERPs than sites that "game" the system, injecting a large number of keywords throughout their site. Using this to your advantage is key, as you won't be able to see the traffic until you are able to get at least a few of your pages indexed and ranking well.

The key in all this is to focus first on search engines, targeting keywords that will bring in the most traffic, then later focus on building links and traffic sources that won't go away, no matter what type of content you publish.

Separating Legitimate Opportunities from the Scams

After you have looked around at the marketplace for "make money online" products and opportunities, or are simply looking for legitimate work-at-home opportunities, you'll find that there are a lot of scams that people are falling for day in and day out. Once you realize that these people will probably never actually use the product, for one, because it is too hard/complicated to use, it tells them something they already know, or it just tells them to purchase additional products, go to seminars and meetings – not worthy of the $97 price tag.

The one place to look for legitimate opportunities are sites and blogs that contain proof that they have paid, and aren't in the thousands of dollars. Even though there are certainly programs that will pay you thousands per month, you probably shouldn't be signing up for them at this moment. They are too good to be true, and will require more work and experience than you currently have (at this stage).

You want to seek out honest opinions from others. If there are more negative than positive opinion polls and people complaining that they weren't paid, you probably shouldn't even think about joining it, unless you want to lose money (both time and capital). Get in contact with people that have had experience with it, who aren't necessarily looking to sell it to you as part of an affiliate "deal." Use their opinions and insight and make an informed decision, not one based on what another marketer you've never met has said.

In reality, all products sold for $97 are scams unless they reveal the secrets of others that no one else has. Unless you can make back the money you paid for the product by the time you have carried out all the steps in the book/movie/etc., you are being scammed and ripped off. You have to realize that many of these tips and ideas are already available for free online, but you have to search.

Back to the programs. There are many legitimate programs that you can use to make money online. A majority are associated with placing ads on your site, getting sales for products that you are promoting, while others are in an associated field. Honestly, the best way to make money by far is selling your own product, as you are in control of all the channels of income, and you generally don't have anyone working over you, who will be telling you when and where you can sell it.

Scam programs always have some warning signs that you have to be aware of. They include (this is a brief list):

Key words that inform you that you don't have to do any work, such as "post links to Google," "make money overnight," or "this program helped my purchase my $10 million home." Most likely, these people had to do some work to get there, making money 24/7.
Screenshots. If you see screenshots of payments that appear similar on other sites, or have large portions of information (other than the name or bank identification details), it is likely a "fake" check or payment proof. Sales figures (listed in a table, usually) are also "fake" as they indicate that you are doing direct selling to someone and need to have inventory/a website/experience in the field.
Other words that tell you that "this program is NOT as SCAM" should present you a flag, as a legitimate opportunity will be able to get to its position not by informing users that they won't be scammed, but will simply do a favor for its members and participants and PAY them for what they are due.

With these core ideas in mind, keep your eyes open for scams and opportunities that are too good to be true, specifically dealing with the amount you have to pay in order to earn the money. Usually, you want to keep that number as close to $0/free as possible, unless you are paying for hosting or other services that will help you grow.
