Find "Invisible" friends on Google Talk

There is an extremely easy way to find out if your friends on Google Talk have set their status to "Invisible" and they appear to be offline.

Use GoTalkMobile, a mobile Google Talk J2ME Client, and there you go, you can see all your "invisible" friends straight away! Your friends who are "Invisible", will be shown in the contact list as "Offline".

You will need an active GPRS/EDGE/CDMA/WI-FI connection on your mobile phone. (Data transfer charges will apply depending on your service provider). Point your mobile phone browser to wap.gotalkmobile.com to download and install. After you install GoTalkMobile, go to Options > Contact List and select "Show Offline Contacts". That's it, you are done! Scroll down in your contact list and find your hiding buddies!

Now, if you don't want to use your mobile phone and want to do this on your computer, it is possible. GoTalkMobile is a mobile application, so we cant just install and expect it to work on a computer. We will simulate a mobile phone with the help of an emulator and make GoTalkMobile work on the computer.

Follow these easy steps, and we should be done in minutes.

1) Click here to download SJBoy Emulator. Unzip it, run the setup file and follow the instructions to install it.

2) Go to the GoTalkMobile download page and download the mobile version of GoTalkMobile. You will have to choose your version for a particular phone. You can choose your version for Nokia 3100, Nokia N70, Motorola V300 or Sony Ericcson K750, whatever interface you are comfortable with. Make sure you download the "JAR" file to your computer.

3) Right click on this "JAR" file and open it with the SJBoy Emulator. From the "Choose Phone" menu, select the phone for which you have downloaded GoTalkMobile.

4) Use this emulator exactly the way you would use your phone, by clicking on the keypad to make inputs. Put in your Google Talk login details, go to Options > Contact List and select "Show Offline Contacts", and start scrolling your contact list!

Being "Invisible" on Google Talk is a good way to stay away from everyone when you are online, but do not want to be disturbed. But what if you want to be visible when someone important has to contact you, but at the same time you don't want to be disturbed by others?

www.galwaysidle.com has come up with a solution for this. You can set your Google Talk status to "Always Idle" or "Never Idle". All you need to do is install the setup, start your Google Talk desktop client, right click it and choose your setting.

The gAlwaysIdle website does not seem to work, but here is an alternative link for the gAlwaysIdle Setup.

Upload photos directly from Series 60 and Windows Mobile phones to Picasa

Google has not yet come up with a mobile uploader for Series 60 and Windows Mobile phones for Picasa Web Albums. They have a uploader only for the iPhone as of now. For the others, the way to go was, download Picasa on your computer, transfer the photos and videos from your phone to the computer and then upload, or directly upload from a computer.

www.shozu.com offers a great service to do this. You can directly upload photos from a host of mobile phones (Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericson and others running S60 and Windows Mobile) directly to Picasa. You need to download the application to your phone, and also activate it. In the activation part for Picasa, you have to grant Shozu access to your Google Account. You can stop their access anytime you want. You can add photos only to your existing Picasa Web Albums, so make a Mobile Upload folder in advance if you want, after which you can always organize your photos and make folders when you use a computer.

You can also upload video's directly to YouTube with Shozu. It really works, and its absolutely free! (except for the data transfer charges by your operator or internet provider).

With Shozu, you can upload your photos and videos to a number of websites.

Photos and Videos can be uploaded to any FTP server and sent to any Email address from Shozu.

You can also get your friends Flickr photo streams, videos, photos, music, news delivered automatically to your phone with Zucasts, which comes with the Shozu mobile application.

Shozu also offers a service to keep an online back up of all your contacts.

THE WORLD OF TORRENTS

Torrents can be used to download movies, TV shows, songs, latest softwares, videos, games and a lot of other things, absolutely FREE! Its not too difficult to get started with Torrents, and this is a mini guide, where you will learn just the things you need to start off and download efficiently.

The technology is called "BitTorrent". It is a file sharing protocol based on a Peer to Peer (P2P) system. That means you will be downloading your stuff from others users just like you, collectively called as "Peers" including you. The people from who you are downloading from are called as "Seeders" and the people who are downloading are called "Leechers".
In short, Seeders + Leechers = Peers

To start off, you need to download a BitTorrent Client like utorrent. There are a lot of clients available, just Google search "torrent clients".

Then, you have to search for what you want to download.You need to look for a "(something).torrent" file. This contains information like the names, size and number of files in a Torrent you want to download.

Search for the ".torrent" file on Inspired By TECH Torrents Custom Search (search box at the end of this post) or Google. All you need to do is put in your keywords and add "torrent" after them. Example: You want to download the game "Grand Prix 4". Search for "grand prix 4 torrent" on Google.
You will see a number of different websites offering the torrent file. Some of these websites might ask for a nominal one time fee. Its upto you, otherwise just try some other website. Some sites may also ask for a Sign Up.

You need to check the following things for getting a fast and working download.

Check the files included in the torrent to see if thats what you are looking for. (Sometimes they might be music videos when you want to download just the songs)
See the number of Seeders or Seeds. More the number of Seeders, faster the download.
Go through the Comments other users have posted. You will immediately get an idea if the torrent is a working one or not.

Now, download the "(something).torrent" file. Normally, your browser will ask you if you want to "Open With" or "Save to Disk". You can open it directly in the BitTorrent Client you have downloaded, or save and open it. Before your download starts in your BitTorrent Client, a list of all the files in the torrent will be displayed. Here, you can choose which files you want to download and uncheck the rest. Your download will now start.

Since this works on the P2P system, parts of your download (even if your download is not complete) will be uploaded to other users. An unlimited data internet connection is highly recommended. You can also restrict your upload limit to 1kbps, which will leave a good amount of your bandwidth for your download. Note that in most clients, you cannot set your upload limit to zero.

This post will help you use Google Talk (Gtalk) in different alternate ways if your network administrator has blocked Instant Messaging (IM) or if you are using an old computer. Try all the following steps one by one.

Download and Install Gtalk from www.google.com/talk
Open Gmail. You can chat inside Gmail after you "turn on chat".
Use the Google Talk Gadget
Use the Gtalk Sidebar add on in your Firefox Browser.
Sign in igoogle, your personalized Google Homepage. Go to "Add Stuff" and add Gtalk.
Use Meebo at www.meebo.com. Here, you can sign in AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber at the same time.
Use a Jabber Client. You can sign in to any Jabber Client with your Google Login. Google Search "jabber clients" to download one. Search for "online jabber clients" to use Google Talk in Jabber in a browser.
Go to demo.java2script.org/gtalk or izuz.net/gtalk. This is a copy of Gtalk, but written in JavaScript. Its slower than the original version, but it does work!
Use a proxy site to go to the Google Talk Gadget or Meebo. Google search "proxy sites" or "proxy servers" and you will find many. If the first few don't work, keep trying more. (Do not use sensitive information like credit card numbers when you are under a proxy, as these sites cannot be trusted completely).
Try the Meebo Repeater. This will turn a computer which has internet access without problems (like your home computer) into a proxy server, to which you can connect any other computer and use Meebo.
Go to Mobile Instant Messaging on this blog to use IM directly on your mobile phone.

Follow these simple steps:

Install a good anti-virus software, a firewall and a adware/spyware remover.
Keep the main drive of your hard disk, the drive where your operating system is installed (C: in most cases) as free as possible. Transfer your files and other data to a different drive. (Always keep a back up of your important data)
Use a Registry, temporary and unwanted files cleaner (like CCleaner) regularly.
Defragment your hard disk at least once a month. Disk Defragmenter (Windows) is in Programs > Accesories > System Tools.
