A KL Trip To Remember: When Zest Air flies to Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur

It is indeed a good news that Zest Air is now expanding. Three destinations are now added in their flights, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur for their international flight and Bacolod for domestic flight in which these three flights are coming from Manila.

Last friday (May 10, 2013), I was so lucky to be part of Team Kuala's Familiarization Tour to Malaysia, and one of the first to experience Zest Air's inaugural flight to KL.

Our flight Z2948 left Manila at 6:45AM bound to Kuala Lumpur's LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) at 10:25AM while flight Z2501 bound for Kota Kinabalu left the NAIA T4 at 9:35AM together with Jim Paredes.

I have lot of friends currently working in Malaysia. Aside from work and business, tourism is also expected to growth according to the Director of Tourism Malaysia Philippines.

We noticed that flight crews were in red uniform. It happens that Zest Air now has strategic alliance with Air Asia PH boosting up an improved low cost airline in terms of in-flight, service, etc.

SEAIR now flies to Laoag!

Southeast Asian Airlines, Inc. (SEAIR) has announced its newest destination, Laoag, started flying last April 4, 2013. Flights will originate from the Manila Domestic Airport or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4.

Laoag is also the best jump-off point to some of the most breath-taking sights and destinations in the north such as Kabigan Falls and Blue Lagoon Cove in Pagudpud; the windmills in Bangui; Paoay Lake National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Paoay Church, and the Malacañang of the North or Balay ti Amianan (former President Marcos's official residence in Ilocos Norte) in Paoay; Cape Bojeador in Burgos; and the Sand Dunes of La Paz.

After our Guimaras trip, we went back to Iloilo to explore more. We reached the city around late afternoon. From Ortiz Wharf, we took a cab to reach Ong Bun Pension House.

So where to stay in Iloilo?

One of my favorite blogger Ambot-Ah suggested to try Ongbun's Pension House because of it's location (in the heart of the city) plus it is affordable. We don't have any reservations prior the trip, reason we weren't able to get the cheapest room. But I think for Php 580/night for two (deluxe room), this room is quite cheap! Our room has air-condition with own toilet and television. WiFi is free too! Isn't it sweet to get a good sleep for an affordable stay?

Our simple yet clean room!

We left our bags in our room and went outside to make way for our Iloilo City small foodtrip! From Ong Bun, we took a jeepney (minimum fare) to reach SM. We wanted to try La Paz Batchoy here. Batchoy is a noodle soup made with pork organs, crushed pork cracklings, chicken stock, beef loin and round noodles. (see wiki for more info) It is relatively famous in Iloilo, where it is said that Batchoy originated in La Paz, Iloilo City, hence it is called La Paz Batchoy. There has been a lot of debate as to where is the best La Paz Batchoy in town. And finally, we'll be able to taste it.

Foodtrip 101: Deco's Lapaz Batchoy

We headed ourselves to Deco's inside the mall. Jason love their version because of the abundance of chicharon (crushed pork cracklings) in it. Their puto (steamed rice cake) is really good. I wanted to taste their pandesal too, as it seems like a big hit to the customers as most of them has a plate of it. Unfortunately it was out of stock when we were about to order.

Foodtrip 101: Ted's La Paz Batchoy

Thank goodness we were inside the mall because next on our list is Ted's La Paz Batchoy. Jason like Deco's better, but I prefer Ted's maybe because I love pork liver. It's hard to verdict which is good because we have different taste palate.

Foodtrip 101: Original Biscocho Haus

Original Biscocho Haus is one of the famous bakeshop in Iloilo. We did our pasalubong hunting for their tasty Biscocho, Butterscotch, Barquillos, Piaya, Pinasugbo, Yemas, Barquiron and Galletas.

Foodtrip 101: Steps of Rome at Plazuela De Iloilo

Beside SM mall in Iloilo, is Plazuela De Iloilo. It's like a simpler and smaller version of The Venice Piazza in Mckinley Hills in Taguig, where few restaurants line up for customer's selection on where to eat. There's a Breakthrough Restaurant here, a famous seafood restaurant in Iloilo, and I saw numerous people waiting for their reservation. It must be good!

We were already full after eating a lot of La Paz Batchoy from Deco's and Ted's so we decided to just try some desserts here at Steps of Rome. The place looks fancy and expensive but I'm surprised the dessert only costs around Php 100-150 more or less.

It was a fun filled night we had getting our stomach full. Tomorrow will be exploring places! Most sites I've read was exploring churches for a whole day in Iloilo. I plan my itinerary to check some churches only because I believe there's more to it. Google maps became my friend.

DAY 3

Since it is our last day, we packed our things the night before and checked out of Ong Bun Pension House early morning. They were kind to allow us to leave our baggages in the reception area, so it would be easy for us to explore Iloilo.

First Stop: NADSADJAN FALLS IN ILOILO

When I saw this on ate Gaile's (pinaysolobackpacker.com) blog, I bookmarked it and include this in my itinerary. Igbaras has a great waterfalls that I think should give a chance too!

How to get to Nadsadjan falls?

Here's how we did it.
1. Ride a jeepney/cab to Iloilo Terminal Market/Palengke/Wet Market in Fuentes St. (We ask Ong Bun receptionist just to make sure)
2. Ask the people, where is the Igbaras jeepney terminal, and wait until the jeepney arrives.
3. You'll reach Igbaras town in more or less 1 hr and 15 mins.
4. Get off at Igbaras town (you'll see a municipal hall & plaza once you reach it) and ride a habal habal (motorcycle) to Brgy. Passi (15-20 minutes). You can just tell them you're going to the falls.
5. A thirty minutes trek/walk to reach the falls. :)

I read that you can ask help at the municipal office but it's a weekend so the office was close. Our habal-habal driver supposedly, will only drove us until the end of thr road but we don't know where to trek so we asked him to be our guide for that morning.

Slippery part going to the falls. Be careful, nadulas at napaupo ako dito sabay tayo agad thinking of my camera huhu. (My motto: 'Di bale nang mabasa wag lang camera ko hehe.') Thanks to my camera bag for saving my camera. :)

We ate our lunch in Igbaras town (nearby carenderia) and off to our next stop!

Second Stop: MIAG-AO CHURCH

Our second stop, is the Miag-ao church. From Igbaras town, we dropped off at crossing/main road because Miag-ao is farther town from city proper. We took a jeepney to reach Miag-ao.

The Miag-ao Church, or Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva, was built in 1786 by Spanish Augustinian missionaries. It was declared as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Baroque Churches of the Philippines" in 1993. On the front facade, which is flanked by two watchtower belfries, one can see the unique blending of Spanish and native influences plus the beautiful intricate design

Third Stop: GUIMBAL CHURCH

We took another jeepney to get into the next town called Guimbal. Parish of St Nicolas of Tolentino, or Guimbal church is made up of yellow adobe and coral stones and is said to be one of the oldest church built in the country for around 400 yrs old.

Fourth Stop: BREAKTHROUGH RESTAURANT

It was a great day for us to end in one of the famous restaurant in Iloilo - the Breakthrough Restaurant. It is special for me because of the location is very much relaxing. Located in Villa Beach in Iloilo, it is a public gray sand beach where rows of restaurants and small local eateries were lined up, a perfect place to dine and savor your vacation moments.

It was getting dark and we still need to go back to Ong Bun to get our things and fly back to Manila. Yes, this is a short Iloilo escapade and I still want to explore more of Iloilo, but for now, I so love the simplicity of the province. :)

Part2: Iloilo - Guimaras Day 2 - Island Hopping in Guimaras and Guisi Lighthouse

Alubihod Beach in the morning

Good morning Guimaras! It was a pleasant first day and we're excited to explore more. On our 2nd day in Guimaras, we went for some island hopping before going back to Iloilo. As I've said in the previous part of this trip series, we chose Raymen Beach Resort because we need other travelers to join us in renting the boat to split cost. Another couple from Cebu join us as well. We're now 6!!

Exploring Guimaras By Boat

We woke up early and started the boat tour around 7:30-8am. Our plan is to do island hopping roughly for 3-4 hours only. We only have few hours to explore as we still need to prepare for check out and go back to Iloilo in the afternoon.

TIP: Ask the resort if there are other people who's going for an island hopping tour and if it's okay to join.

First Stop: SEAFDEC Marine Reserves Facility

SEAFDEC or South East Asian Fisheries Development Center is a government owned facility that studies development of marine life and the proper way to culture it in order to help fishermen work for better livelihood opportunities. This facility looks like a simple fishpond but there's more than meets the eye.

For a small fee of Php 25, the facility also served as a tourist spot which I think one of the best experience I had in Guimaras. The caretaker discussed different species of fish and how they are being cultured.

Guimaras is said to be one of the great exporters of abalone. The flesh of abalones are widely consumed raw or cooked for variety of dishes, a sought-after seafood delicacy in the world.

Seahorses and starfishes were also part of their research.

We were supposed to be touring for few minutes but ended up enjoying the place for almost an hour. This is an educational tourism worth visiting. :)

Second Stop: Pawikan Sanctuary

I think we should have gone to Lawi Marine Turtle Rescue Center but I'm just not sure if the guide/boat really brought us to the exact place. We went to an island and this pawikan/turtle seems like a pet to them. The turtle is quite heavy but the shell is really tough to protect himself from danger. The kids are quite fun to see too!

We also explored the rock formations of the island and took some pictures. The boatman/guide told us we could go to Ave Maria Island which is very near the area but due to limited time we didn't go there. Maybe we could explore the beauty of Guimaras on our next visit.

Third Stop: Baras Cave

We entered Baras cave via boat and took photos inside.

Back To Alubihod Beach

We went back to Alubihod beach after few hours. We took some photos, enjoyed the beach and savoured the moment while it lasts. We took our lunch in Raymen's as usual.

It was already 2pm, we already have an agreement with tricycle driver who drove us to resort yesterday that he'll pick us up at this time. I think it is much cheaper if you'll just go for any tricycle near the resort. Our tricycle driver is located at the port, so he will also charged for his travel from the port to Raymen's beach resort. At least I was able to haggle some discount. Before going back to the port, we went to Guisi Lighthouse to explore the place.

Guisi Lighthouse

Located in Guisi, in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, Guisi lighthouse was built during the Spanish Government around 1894-1896. Obviously Guisi lighthouse is more or less 15 to 20 minutes away from Raymen's. You willl pass by some ruins to get to this lighthouse. Obviously it is not functional anymore, be careful, going up is at your OWN RISK.

We haven't been to Guisi beach, Kuya told us there are few resorts there.

We took a short stop over along the highway because I'm curious as to where are the mango trees?

Our trike driver pointed this out just near the pasalubong area and I thought it's only a monument but it is Guimaras museum. He said it was Andres Bonifacio in the monument.

Guimaras' Alubihod Beach

Iloilo and Guimaras are provinces located in the Western Visayas Region. Guimaras is an island located few minutes boat ride away from Iloilo City, that's why most of traveler's route is to visit Guimaras Island as well when they are in Iloilo City. I only have few days to spare, gladly I was able to visit the places I wanted to see.

Iloilo International Airport is the airport serving the general area of Iloilo City, the capital city of the province of Iloilo and the regional center of the Western Visayas region in the Philippines.(see wikipedia for more info)

From Iloilo International Airport, the cheapest way to get to downtown city is to ride a public utility van that will get you to SM City Iloilo. This only costs Php 50 per passenger and travel time is about 30 minutes. From SM City Iloilo, you may opt to ride a jeepney or a taxi depending on your destination.

TIP: As soon as you get out of the airport there are numerous drivers/barkers looking for passengers from airport. Asked how much is the fare rate per passenger before getting their service just to be sure they are not a crook or something. :)

It was a cheap transportation from the airport, I was impressed that Iloilo City has public vans available for transport. How I wished airports in Manila has public van transportation too to reach malls closer to our residential city. Anyway, we took our lunch inside SM City Iloilo before going to Guimaras.

How To Get To Guimaras | Transportation to Guimaras

I have already mentioned that Guimaras is few minutes boat ride from Iloilo. From SM City Iloilo we took a cab ride to Ortiz Wharf. Fare is less than Php 100. Fare of public pump boat to Guimaras is really cheap for Php 14/passenger one way. Travel time of the boat ride is around 15 minutes only.

Touring Guimaras

Guimaras Island is wonderful province with lots of places to see. Also, the province is well known for producing one of the sweetest mango so one should try it during its season.

There are two ways to explore the island:
*by land to discover tourist spots along the way - via trycicle or multicab (jeepney like vehicle) or your own vehicle
*by boat for some island hopping experience

We weren't able to contact any tricycle driver to tour us around prior our visit. As soon as we get off the pump boat from Iloilo we took one from a lot of tricycle drivers waiting at the port. It's around mid afternoon, so we only have few hours left to tour Guimaras. Our plan is to visit some places along the way before going to the resort.

First Stop : Smallest Plaza

Kuya Totong, our trike driver made a stop at the Smallest Plaza. It is along the highway and he said this plaza once became world record for being the smallest plaza. He also said it is Jose Rizal in the statue when he was younger. We took some pictures and then went to our next destination.

Second Stop: Trappist Monastery

Trappist Monastery is quite a peaceful place run by monks following rules of St. Benedict. It is a good place to pray, as well as talking with monks and praying with them (for Catholics).

Trappist Monastery is also famous for their wonderful mango products made by monks, their way to earn for a living. I suggest you try their mango bars, quite pricey around Php 80-90 per pack but tastes heavenly haha. What they sell here are great food products you don't want to miss. :)

Third Stop: Valle Verde Mountain Spring Resort

Our driver brought us to Valle Verde Mountain Spring Resort. The spring pool looks inviting as it is surrounded by lush green scenery. The place has a great overlooking view near their restaurant. We don't have plans of swimming yet for our first day so we just gave a small fee for exploring the area.

Fourth Stop: Raymen Beach Resort

One of the resorts along Alubihod in Guimaras is Raymen Beach Resort. We're supposed to book a different resort far from here but because we will go on island hopping tour the next day and we're on a tight budget, it would be cheaper if we share expenses. I already talked to someone from gt forum prior the trip and she agreed her friends (she's supposed to come too but cancelled her trip) will be doing the island hopping the next day with us. :)

Raymen Beach Resort has a restaurant where you can eat. They also have open cottages for daytrips too. Anyway, we took their fan room as we don't have enough budget to avail their aircon room. I just asked the receptionist to let me take a photo of their aircon room too for your options. :)

Our first day ended well, and we were up for island hopping the next day. We ate our dinner in their restaurant because I don't know if there are other place to go to eat.

Tagaytay | A Weekend Getaway at Taal Vista Hotel

First weekend of January, I was in Tagaytay City and I got a chance to experience an overnight stay in Taal Vista Hotel. The hotel has been running since 1937 and its great advantage is the location as you get to enjoy a stunning view of Taal Volcano.

Upon entering the hotel, the Lobby Lounge & Bar caught my attention because of its high ceiling and beautiful glass window that makes it more relaxing. Later on, I got the information that anyone, even without accomodation in the hotel, can unwind here as long as you have a minimum purchase. (around Php 150.00 I think).

Drinks and cakes are available here. They have this kare kare cheesecake (bottom center) which is one unusual cake if you're an adventurous eater.

Cafe on the Ridge

We arrived around lunchtime hence we went first to hotel's restaurant named Cafe on the Ridge because it is too early for check in. Cafe on the Ridge offers themed buffet lunch and dinner. I highly suggest to try having lunch here on a weekend as you get to watch the cultural show for free. Even without accomodation, you can visit Cafe on the Ridge just wear something casual (avoid sando/shorts especially for men).

Because it's a Saturday, their themed buffet lunch is Taal Vista Heritage Cuisine. There's a special stand of dishes in the middle of buffet that promotes proudly Filipino food.

Like what I said earlier, a group of dancers is usually performing cultural dance while you are enjoying a sumptuous lunch every Saturday and Sunday. I enjoyed the performance and I think we should support this kind of show. I instantly remembered my elementary days dancing folk dances for Teacher's Day Program or United Nations. Nakakarelate din ba kayo?

You can also eat outside at The Patio and it is an open area to gaze at Taal Volcano.

Our room is located at the Lake wing where you get to see the view of Taal Volcano. The bathroom is stunning too with toiletries provided by the hotel. I love the room, do I need to explain more? The pictures tell it all.

We also tried their aromatherapy massage at Taal Vista Hotel's spa - the Asmara Spa. Talk about pampering!

Tagaytay Suite

One of the best rooms in Taal Vista is the Tagaytay Suite. This is usually booked by bride or groom for weddings. It got the closest view of Taal and the window is remarkably huge, wedding photographers may find this cinematic for a shoot.

We had another fully loaded dinner and one of the highlights that everyone enjoyed the most is eating Bulalo. It was cold and windy and you're in Tagaytay. Period.

Robbie, Elal, Joan and I ended the Saturday night packed with fun stories, and we didn't realized the time. We set the alarm at 5:30am, although we heard it, we fell asleep again. Good thing it's never too late to catch it when we woke up few minutes before 6am. My very first sunrise, taken from the room. Ang hirap gumising haha!

The Pool

We visited the very inviting pool near the Mountain Wing. Most families booked Mountain rooms because it is near the gym, spa and last but not the least the swimming pool where kids get to enjoy. The weather is so cold early morning and at night but really hot before 12pm until afternoon. Yes, it is very tempting with this great weather.

The Function Room

For just an overnight stay here, I've seen around 4 weddings in Taal Vista. Yes, their hotel is known for weddings, and here it is, their spacious function room.

The Farm

For fresh vegetables served in the buffet, most of it came from their own farm. Saw a lot of lettuce and eggplants here.

We went back to the open area and saw a lot of kids playing with bubbles!

Overall it is one great weekend getaway I savored blissfully. Got a thousand photos for a weekend trip haha. :)

Tagaytay | Aromatherapy Massage at Asmara Spa in Taal Vista Hotel

First week of the year has been good to me as I got to visit Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay. Not only have I experienced a wonderful stay here but I got to enjoy the relaxing massage in their own spa called Asmara Spa.

Before we went inside for a spa experience, we checked the surroundings where Asmara Spa is located. I think Asmara Spa's location got the best view of Taal Volcano! You may catch the sunrise here too, that is if you're ready to get up very very early!

On the left side, the view from Asmara Spa is Taal Vista's open area grounds for Taal Volcano overlooking. From the photo below, I was able to see another Ferris wheel in the making just beside Taal Vista Hotel. Smells another attraction in Tagaytay. :)

After taking some pictures, we went inside to check out the spa. Right now, they have 2 single rooms and 1 couple room. There were four of us who will hit the spa, so we discussed who will be in the single room and in the couple room. It was decided that me and Elal (girlfriends!! couple kunyari!) will be taking the couple room.

What I like about this spa is the mood. The color combination is so relaxing in the eyes, achieve na achieve ang ambiance!

There are bunch of massage to choose from but what we tried was the Aromatheraphy massage. It is a type of massage that uses essential oils with aromatic compounds to sooth your body and relieve stress. We were asked to choose the type of oil and I personally chose the lavender scent.

We then took a shower first. Each room has its own toilet and shower area. I am so happy to be pampered! It's a one hour massage for us we almost fell asleep.

Taal Vista Hotel Unveils Restored Lobby and Mountain Wing Rooms

One of the country’s most cherished heritage hotels, Taal Vista Hotel, recently unveiled a newly restored Lobby, Lobby Lounge and Bar alongside refurbished rooms and suites in its Mountain Wing last November 17, 2012.

Design firm MP Interior Design selected a palette of warm earthy natural hues in rich shades of chartreuse, chocolate brown and gold to give the feel of an elegant country home that is comforting and familiar.

Pulling up to the hotel’s butter yellow porte-cochere, guests are greeted by a warmly lit lobby bathed in soft yellow light that caresses the chocolate colored walls. A floor to ceiling wooden panel that features kiwi green and hay yellow fabric serves as the backdrop for the hotel’s front desk and a relaxed start to a country getaway.

This feeling of comfort extends to the interiors of the high ceilinged Lobby Lounge. Guests will feel at home in the warm open space that exudes an air of casual elegance. During the day, the lounge is illuminated with light streaming in from the floor to ceiling glass picture windows that look out onto the sprawling hotel gardens and the Taal Lake in the distance.

With the view from the windows as the centerpiece, the lounge brings in the colors of the lush outdoors. Vintage inspired floral fabrics in bright pops of red, pink and orange upholster the plush chairs and couches. The floral fabrics create a fine contrast paired with the opaque white glass tabletops with stainless steel corners that smoothly blend the old with the new.

The hotel’s iconic stone fireplace commands one side of the room but warmth spreads throughout the space. Thoughtfully positioned seating arrangements bring an air of intimacy to each table and create a unique feeling of privacy throughout the lounge. Seating options abound from plush club chairs, and comfy couches to high back winged chairs.

The Lobby Bar stands opposite the fireplace providing balance to both ends of the room. Gracefully curved bar chairs in light wood are offset by subtle metallic brown. The colors pick up the bar’s stone walls and bring a shine of glamour to the space at night. Here guests can relax and unwind with some choice appetizers and a selection of fine wines, while listening to the nightly entertainment ensembles.

The rooms in the hotel’s Mountain Wing were refurbished in a palette of soothing creams, dusky golds and rich blues with dark wood accents that blend seamlessly with the historic hotel’s existing structure.

The Tagaytay suite was also refurbished and features historic pictures of the hotel alongside exquisite views of the splendid Taal Lake. The desirable 196 square meter suite was done in a luxurious palette of satin creams and plush blues and features two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and floor to ceiling glass windows with an enviable view of the lake. It is the ideal choice for families, and gatherings with friends and business associates.

So where I've been this year?

1. Pasay City

Early quarter of the year, I went to Pasay City here in Metro Manila to witness another extravagant fireworks display at the 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2012. Here's my blog about it: UK vs. Spain and Finland vs. Portugal

2. Singapore
My second trip out of the country. I just love helix bridge that I went here twice. Also, the Transformers ride in Universal Studios is awesome!!! Proud to be a tourist! :)

3. Siquijor
Been eyeing this place few years ago, and happy to finally explore Siquijor with officemates. Waterfalls, caving, sunset, takutan, and a lot more!

4. Bataan
We had fun at Montemar! A fun-filled summer company outing in Bataan. :)

5. White Beach, Puerto Galera

Been here four times with different set of friends, this time with QCPC family. This is one place I never thought of blogging. I guess some trips are meant to relax, enjoy and not pressure yourself too much to post over the net.

6. Boracay

Make way for a so called 'paluwagan ipunan' (every payday fund) to make a boracay trip possible. Thanks dear Pikapi for taking care of our funds! :D

7. Cebu

Literally, we had a good aura during the trip that we didn't get mad at our tour guide for letting us wait to fix his wrecked FX vehicle for 2 hours hahaha! Anyway, the photo below is my friend, Angel, taken during the trip. Don't like my shot here, but I just find it cool to have a portrait shot inside a cave.

8. Bangkok, Thailand

Sawa dee.... Khup Kun... Tao Rai... Learned the basic thai and had really fun in Thailand. I realized I can stay here, because we look like thai (pwede akong magcamouflage) and i love the food!! :)

9. Pasay City

Very fortunate to experience an overnight stay at Microtel Mall of Asia Manila and get full at Millie's great food.

10. Tagaytay

Reunions and get together is so in every December. Our supposedly U.P. isaw foodtrip, became bulalo dinner in Tagaytay. Short but full of stories. :)

Pasay City: Dining Experience at Millie's Restaurant in Microtel Mall of Asia (MOA) Manila

Apart from experiencing overnight stay in Microtel Mall of Asia Manila, we had a sumptuous gastronomic adventure at Millie's. Located at ground floor of Microtel Mall of Asia Manila, anyone can have a chance to dine here without accommodation in their hotel.

Who is Millie by the way? Millie is the mother of the owner of Microtel Mall of Asia Manila. She loves travelling and wanted to share the foods she tasted during her travels, hence the experience here is like a taste around the world.

With the new doctrine mostly used today, "shoot before eating", we had a chance of taking photos of the foods served to us cooked and presented by their resident chef Ana Go. It's a fun experience that we were joking around 'Ms. Ana pwede tumira sa inyo?' (can we stay at your house?).

We had our dinner at the rooftop (as it is a special event), but the restaurant is at the ground floor facing the entrance.

The restaurant is accentuated with Millie's collection of different piece during her travels.

I've seen few of her passports displayed as well. Daming tatak!

Instantly I remember my grandmother because of the bags, (I grew up seeing her different small bags when going to church) like what Millie have in her collection.

It's not everyday I get to stay in a fine hotel within the metro so when I got invited at Microtel Mall of Asia Manila my excitement level goes up. Few nights before, I was literally in lack of sleep due to a neighbor's party rock at 2am in the morning so the thought of staying in a relaxing place is really coming to my senses.

Microtel Mall of Asia - Manila is indeed in a very good location. It is few minutes walk from SM Mall of Asia where shopping and entertainment is at it, hence, most of the guests more often than not stay here because of the fun they're getting at the nearby mall. Conveniently, SMX Convention Center is within the vicinity the reason why business people choose to stay here as well. Philippine airports are also in the southern area of Metro Manila, and it is a short cab ride from there.

Don't be fool by the map, you don't need to cross the water to get there. From SM Mall of Asia, take few minutes walk to SMX Convention Center until you see the church (Shrine of Jesus The Way). From there you can see Microtel Manila.

Aside from a great location, the rooftop is fantastic! Upon seeing the rooftop pool, I was estactic and already thinking of booking here in the near future. With the warm weather in Manila, who would not want to dip into the pool as the sun sets over the bay?

If you're into photography or maybe love seeing city lights, the night is yours by falling in love at a romantic view of the bay plus the giant ferris wheel called MOA Eye. I had another encounter with MOA Eye again! Lucky too if you spend your friday or saturday night here as SM Mall of Asia usually set off fireworks at 7pm. Unfortunately we arrived late hence we didn't catch any.

The room is quite huge for two. It has two queen size beds, cable television, refrigerator, cabinet, a clean toilet and bathroom with basic amenities you need in a hotel like towels, soap, etc. They do have a glass & pitcher, there's available drinking water near the elevator.

To see a view of MOA eye in our bedroom is definitely cool! We didn't want to go home without our so-called 'pang fb profile pic'.

The stay here includes a buffet breakfast from 6am to 10am at the ground floor by their own Millie's Restaurant. It was good they thought of including healthy stuff (vegetables/fruits) as some people preferred healthy eating.

I would love to go back! A vacation not so far from home. Happiness. :)

TIPS:

Look for free Hong Kong map in airport.

Water is expensive in most theme parks, so purchase it in 7-eleven / mini grocery stores near you.

When doing grocery, bring your own reusable bags.

Accommodation rates may alter based on season / peak months / holidays.

Ask your accomodation if they will provide adaptor for charging your gadgets, if not prepare to have one.

Food & Beverages are not allowed inside theme parks.

Based on Hong Kong airport's website: for departing passengers, all (liquid, aerosol, aels) LAG items carried in hand baggage must be stored in containers of capacity not exceeding 100ml each. Containers larger than 100ml will not be accepted, even if they are partially filled. of liquid is allowed and must be sealed in a plastic container. This is the reason why they took our 1 liter of H20.

Part 10: Hong Kong - Macau Trip Day 4 - Cable Car Experience at Ngong Ping 360

On our last day in Hong Kong, we went to Ngong Ping 360 and fortunately experienced a great cable car ride! Ngong Ping is one of must-see attraction in Hong Kong located in Lantau Island.

How To Get There

It is very easy to get there via MTR. You need to go to the Tung Chung station, the last station of Tung Chung line. As soon as you get off at Tung Chung station, locate the Ngong Ping terminus/terminal to buy your tickets. This is also the start of your cable car ride. :)

TIP: If you plan on going here first thing in the morning, then leave your hotel early: 1.5-2 hrs before opening hours. If you're coming from the mainland, allot one hour for the travel time, and 30 minutes to 1 hour for buying of ticket (because of long queue).

Ngong Ping Ticket Prices

When we went there a long queue greeted us. To avoid it, book your ticket in their website, as they provided a dedicated fast lane for online booking of tickets.

Two of four types of cabin are mostly used: the standard cabin and the crystal cabin. The crystal cabin is more expensive because the cabin is glass-bottomed.

We purchased the Journey Enlightenment Package via Crystal Cabin, but I think it's okay if you only purchase the cable car ride, as you can also buy entrance to Monkey Tale Theatre and Walking Buddha attraction at Ngong Ping Village if ever you change your mind and plan to check it out.

The cable car ride is superb. You get to see a lot of things below. Because Lantau island consist of mountainous terrain, the green scenery is amazingly a feast for the eyes.

Tian Tan Buddha also known as Big Buddha is a huge Bronze statue of Buddha Amoghasiddhi, one of the Five Wisdom Buddhas of the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism.

My friends noticed this sign of Adolf Hitler. Apparently it is also the Swastika sign, a chinese character representing eternity and Buddhism. There are lot of talks over the forum if Adolf Hitler is a Buddhist, but none proved it maybe it is just a coincidence.

It's time to go back for another cable car ride, as we go back to Tung Chung. This time, it's as if we own the cabin to ourselves. :)

No more pictures after! We were too busy shopping at City Gate Outlets Mall (also at Tung Chung). This mall is full of branded shops, and now I know why lot of people love to shop in Hong Kong. Some of our loved brands are way cheaper than Philippines. We bought some shirts, went to Achi-ban, and grocery inside the mall for pasalubong for our friends and family.

Note: Bring your own reusable bags. Grocery and 7-eleven stores will not provide any plastic bags for you.

We took the MTR (train) back to Tsim Sha Tsui to get our luggages, and took the bus straight to the airport. There were heavy traffic along the way, so when taking the bus, allow 1.5 hrs travel time going to the airport.

Thanks Hong Kong and Macau for a wonderful first time out of the country vacation! Thanks to everyone who find time reading the series. I get inspiration from my few readers so even if it's really time consuming, it became my motivation, blogging my trips. :)
