I'm at Morningside Makers Market this Saturday, the market takes place in the Columcille Hall, next door to the Dominion Cinema in Morningside.

Commissions, Make Me A Thistle

I met a lady during the West End Craft Fair this year who was looking for a modern twist on the traditional Scottish thistle. She recently got back in touch with me and I've started work on a series of brooches and cufflinks for her.

New Sales Venue

I just opened up a free shop on Big Cartel. The free option gives you 5 listings, with no commission fee when an item sells.

My AliBaliJewellery shop on there has 5 of my popular coral designs. I am considering upgrading to having more listing and the ability to point my own domain name to it. Big Cartel has some good functionality including the ability to create different options for customers at different price points within one listing.

Autumn is here!

Edinburgh has felt very autumnal over the last month, although we are supposedly going to get some late summer sun this week!

With autumn in mind, I've been adding some leaf imprint items to my shops.

Lots more still to be added over the next week, including some more new pendants, rings and earrings.

Exhibitors at the West End Craft Fair

I'm getting pretty excited, the West End Fair is now less than a week away! It starts on Saturday 6 August and runs until Sunday 28 August.

I am fairly organised now, just some more stock to finish, some pieces to collect from the Assay Office and then I am good to go.

I thought I'd share the work of some of my fellow exhibitors, now and during my updates throughout the fair.

Single Tier Bee Hotel by Wudwerx Mike will be exhibiting during the 1st week of the Fair, with his collection of premium wildlife habitats for your home and garden. My dad is the proud owner of one of Mike's Bee hotels and Bird boxes!

Manuscript Inital Letter M by Clare McCrory. Clare will be at the West End Fair from 15 August for 2 weeks. A freelance calligrapher and heraldic artist, her painted letters and cards make wonderful gifts. I recently bought a lovely painted letter as a baptism gift.

Jenners & Scott Monument by Stephen O'Neil. Stephen is exhibiting for the full three weeks. He is a digital artist, drawing on the wealth of architecture within Scottish cities for his images, as well as iconic Scottish brands such as Iron Bru and Tunnocks. I have my eye on his Ramsay Gardens print!

The Bicycle of Choice Necklace by The Reworkd Workshop. Amanda is also exhibiting for the full three weeks. Amanda and husband Ryan work with antique typewriter keys and other charms to create on of a kind jewellery. This year, one of Amanda's necklaces shall be mine!

Edinburgh by Jerome Lorieau. Jerome is also exhibiting his photographs for the full 3 weeks. He's recently moved to Bristol, but back here for the festival.

I'm setting up this Thursday, which gives me time on Friday for any last minutes changes to my stall. I'll share some pictures once my stall is set up!

Edinburgh Festival West End Craft Fair 2011

3 weeks today the West End Craft Fair opens in Edinburgh and runs for the duration of the famous Edinburgh International Festival.

I will be exhibiting my jewellery from the 6 August to 28 August. Here are some photos from last year!

This is my second year at the fair and I am already getting excited about it! I'm frantically making stock to be better prepared than last year. It was hard to estimate how much stock I would need last year since it was my first time at the fair. This year I hope I am going in with my eyes open and better prepared.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to share my preparation for the fair here and I will also feature some of the other artists I met last year, who are exhibiting again this year and who have become great friends too!

Holidays and New Enamel Range

Just back from a rather wet week in Dumfries and Galloway. The change of scene and the wonderful sea view did me good though!

I used my time well, creating some new pieces with enamel. I used my coral texture again but using enamel gives me the opportunity to create singe colour pieces and well as the multi-colour approach I have used with patina. All the pieces below were created last week using enamel.

Look out for lots more colours being added soon!

It's June, it's summer! Shame we had a thunderstorm complete with large hail stones today!

However, my design has taken a summery turn, even if the weather cannot.

A New Range for Summer

I managed to lift my head from Father's Day orders over the last couple of days and took time out to create a new range of jewellery.

My new Orange Blossom range includes earrings, rings and pendants. Here is a taster.

The range has 8 designs at present and I will be adding them to my shops over the next couple of days. The ring is already available on Etsy, Dawanda and Folksy.

It's not just Royalty doing it!

Wedding season is well and truly upon us!

I do a lot of custom orders for brides in wedding season and really enjoy working with each bride to create something unique for their big day.

I have just finished a bridal order and thought I would share it with you. It's a departure from my normal metal clay! The bride has a very plain dress and so wants a touch of 'bling'!!

The heart has a crochet silver base, with pearls and crystals weaved into it. It is strung on tigertail with the pearls and swarovski crystals held in place with sterling silver crimps.

The bride has a low backed dress and so she asked me to create something 'interesting' at the back.

I created a small crochet silver heart and then encrusted it on both sides with pearls and crystals. It can be removed from the main pendant and so the bride can wear the pendant again without the back piece. I have suggested that I can make a small pendant for her to wear after the wedding with the back piece.

I also made a crochet cuff bracelet which matches the pendant.

I made plain pearl studs (we felt the necklace and cuff provided enough of the bling factor!).

It was a fun set to make and made nice change from metal clay!

A Week of Significant Numbers and New Things!

This week I'm hoping to finally hit 500 sales in my Etsy Shop and 700 in my Dawanda shop!

I have finally had time to work on a variation of my popular coral range of jewellery. This has been planned since before Christmas.

So finally here is a twist to my coral range, in silver and 24k Gold. The gold is applied using the Keum Boo technique of fusing gold to silver.

The range also includes 3 pendants, and several more earring designs. I will be adding them to my shops this week.

I am delighted that AliBaliJewellery now has a shop on Not on the High Street. This UK based website was established in 2006 and features a wide collection of handmade predominately from UK based small businesses.

I finally have time to make a lot of the items I thought about over the busy Christmas period but had no time to make, here is a taster of my new products!

My first event of 2011 is the Morningside Makers Market Valentine Fair on 5 February.

New venues this year include Makers Markets in Ghillie Dhu, Edinburgh and at Hillhead Library, Glasgow.

Metal Clay Today: Ya Meana Patina Competition

Metal Clay Today runs a series of competitions for Metal Clay artists and the latest challenge is entitled Ya Meana Patina.

The purpose of the challenge was to create a piece with no naked metal, the surface having a patina of some kind. I decided my coral range was perfect for the challenge and submitted my Coral Patina and Texture Ring. It has blue, purple, green, yellow and bronze colours with a patina created using a weak mix of Liver of Sulphur XL Gel and ammonia. I was delighted to be selected as one of the finalists! Voting for the challenge winner runs until 5 November.

My Etsy Travels

I have been taking a short break from all things Etsy to erm, well.... visit some other Etsy sellers.

First on my itinery was Maisy aka One Little House.

Maisy is the one on the right, MissyMoo is on the left! Apparently moocow walking is all the rage in Dorset (or so Maisy says).

We spent a lovely weekend crafting together, eating, drinking wine and giggling! Here is some of Maisy's work in progress!

Tomorrow I start my journey back north, but will be stopping off to visit Caro of Overspill and Caroline Hardy.
