Momentan mache ich mit im online Workshop mit Alisa Burke CREATE DAILY. Ich liebe online Workshops, da ich in meinem eigenen Tempo arbeiten kann – dann, wenn ich Zeit habe. Zugegeben: es braucht auch eine gewisse Disziplin, die Lektionen dann auch tatsächlich zu machen.

Was ich von euch wissen möchte

Wie ihr sicher wisst, organisiere ich für TexArtAcademy Live-Events – sprich live Seminare. Es nimmt mich deshalb Wunder, wie eure Gewohnheiten sind.

Nehmt ihr an online Workshops teil? Wenn ja, an welchen?

Can you believe it: we are more than two weeks into the new year!

I fully enjoyed my staycation. After Christmas, I have been cleaning my studio/office space, sorting through boxes and drawers (finding stuff I didn’t even know I had). Now the space is tidy again and working there is a joy.

How did you start your new year? With a creative bang? Did you sign up for a class? Did you buy a book you’ve always wanted but never got around to purchasing? Did you buy art supplies? Did you finally start that sketchbook? Please leave a comment and share!

I signed up for Alisa Burke’s Create Daily class and I’m having a blast! It takes 30 days to form a new habit – that’s why this is a 30-day class. Every day, Alisa suggests short exercises (from doodling to exploring abstraction to playing with drips … and much more). Exercises which don’t take more than 30 minutes and show us that we can be creative every day even if we don’t have time to head to the studio. Is anyone else taking the class?

Es ist kaum zu glauben: das neue Jahr ist bereits über zwei Wochen alt!

Ich genoss meine Ferien daheim in vollen Zügen. Zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr habe ich mein Atelier/Büro daheim geputzt und aufgeräumt (das Angelina ist weg, es hat noch Avalon). Nun ist wieder alles an seinem Platz, schön sauber und es ist eine Freude, dort zu arbeiten.

Wie seid ihr ins neue Jahr gestartet? Mit einem kreativen Paukenschlag? Habt ihr euch für einen Kurs angemeldet? Oder endlich das Buch gekauft, von dem ihr schon immer gesprochen habt? Neues Material gekauft? Oder etwa das Sketchbook angefangen, das ihr doch schon so lange anfangen wolltet? Wir sind neugierig - hinterlässt einen Kommentar und erzählt es uns bitte!

Ich meldete mich für Alisa Burke’s Onlinekurs Create Daily an und habe riesig Spass. Man sagt, es brauche 30 Tage, um sich eine neue Gewohnheit anzueignen. Aus diesem Grund dauert der Kurs ... 30 Tage. Alisa schlägt uns jeden Tag eine Übung vor (z.B. Doodles, Abstraktion entdecken, Farbe tropfen/laufen lassen ... und vieles mehr), die in 30 Minuten gemacht werden kann und zeigt damit, dass man auch täglich kreativ sein kann, wenn man nicht die Möglichkeit hat, ins Atelier zu gehen und stundenlang zu arbeiten. Ist noch jemand von euch im Kurs?

Ich habe zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr mein Atelier/Büro entstaubt, geputzt und aufgeräumt. Dabei entdeckte ich einige Materialien, mit denen ich früher gerne und oft gearbeitet habe - und die jetzt einfach in Schachteln liegen, da ich meine Arbeitsweise inzwischen geändert habe:

my one-word theme for 2012: CLARITY

It’s that time of year again … I have been ruminating for a while on which one word I would like to choose as my guide for the following year and I have picked CLARITY. I have found that by picking just one word as a theme for the whole year, all kind of opportunities and experiences show up. Very powerful stuff!

My word for the year 2011 was EMBRACE. In January I have been writing: “Embrace vulnerability. Embrace new projects outside my comfort zone. Embrace uncertainty (and stop worrying). Embrace imperfection.”

I have fully embraced all this – and much more: new challenges, creating a new life after my husband retired ….

What is your word for 2012? Please share!

Ja, es ist wieder Zeit dazu ... Ich habe ein paar Tage lang darüber nachgedacht, welches Wort ich als mein Thema für 2012 wählen möchte und meine Wahl ist auf CLARITY (Klarheit) gefallen.

Ein Ein-Wort Thema für ein ganzes Jahr zu wählen ist an sich eine kleine Sache, die jedoch äusserst wirkungsvoll ist.

Mein Wort für das Jahr 2011 war EMBRACE (umarmen; aber auch annehmen, akzeptieren; ergreifen [Gelegenheit]; wahrnehmen; etwas mit offenen Armen begrüssen). Ich habe dazu im letzten Januar geschrieben: „Verletzbarkeit akzeptieren. Neue Projekte ausserhalb der eigenen Komfortzone begrüssen. Ungewissheit annehmen ohne sich zu beunruhigen oder sich zu ängstigen. Unvollkommenheit und Fehler annehmen und zugeben."

All dies habe ich getan, mit voller Überzeugung – dies und noch so viel mehr: neue Herausforderungen annehmen, ein neues Leben gestalten nach der Pensionierung meines Mannes ...

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is around the corner and a new year is starting soon.

It has become a ritual for me to review and acknowledge my accomplishments (and not focus on what I didn’t do). And I invite you to do the same. You will be amazed by all that got done. I promise! And then celebrate all your small and big accomplishments!

So … get out a sheet of paper and a pen or open up a document on your computer and start writing your list.

What accomplishments are you most proud of? Leave a comment and tell us about it. Brag! :-)

Over the last couple of days I reviewed my accomplishments and the list is long. Some of them are very personal, so I just picked the following ones:

I started working with the brilliant Christine Kane. The program Uplevel Your Life changed my life and my way of thinking. Hugely. Profoundly.

I/we decluttered our apartment and the basement. Felt good!

Our living room and entrance hall has been repainted. Finally!

I scheduled a massage once a week from July to December. Pure bliss!

I revamped the seminar website, switched to another webhosting company and another platform and launched the new one in October.

I revamped my newsletter. It’s now called Inside Information, is being published in English, Italian and German, and if you haven’t signed up yet you can do so here.

I am about to revamp my personal art website and merge it with the blog. Stay tuned!

I have been at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.

For the first time, TexArtAcademy 2011 has welcomed a teacher from the US (hi Melly, it was such a pleasure to have you here!). And we welcomed many new students. It makes me extremely happy that most of the new students have already signed up for next year’s classes.

I set up a Facebook business page for the seminars. Please pop over and like us!

I still have some items on my to-do list, but once they are done, it’s time to slow down, to relax and to give myself permission to do nothing. The plan is to take 2 weeks off from work and fully enjoy the holiday season. How about you?

Es ist kaum zu glauben, dass Weihnachten vor der Türe steht und schon sehr bald ein neues Jahr beginnt.

Es ist für mich inzwischen zur Gewohnheit geworden, im Dezember Rückschau zu halten und die Dinge aufzulisten, die ich während des Jahres erreicht habe. Das ist doch so viel schöner als sich auf das zu konzentrieren, was man alles nicht gemacht hat. Ich lade euch ein, dasselbe zu tun. Ich bin überzeugt, ihr werdet staunen, was ihr alles getan habt. Feiert anschliessend all die grossen und kleinen Erfolge!

Deshalb: nehmt ein Blatt Papier und einen Stift oder öffnet ein neues Dokument in Word oder Open Office und fängt an zu schreiben.

Während den letzten Tagen habe ich also das, was ich 2011 erreicht habe, Revue passieren lassen und aufgelistet. Und wiederum ist die Liste sehr lang geworden. Ein kleiner Auszug davon:

Ich begann, mit Christine Kane zu arbeiten. Das Programm Uplevel Your Life veränderte mein Leben. Wirklich tiefgreifend. Grundlegend.

Ich/wir mistete/n unsere Wohnung und den Keller aus. Und fühlen uns so viel leichter!

Das Wohnzimmer und der Korridor wurden neu gestrichen. Endlich!

Von Juli bis Dezember plante ich wöchentlich eine Massage ein. Himmlisch!

Ich gestaltete die Seminarwebseite neu, wechselte den Webhoster und die Plattform und lancierte sie im Oktober.

Ich gestaltete meinen Newsletter neu. Er heisst nun Inside Information und wird in 3 Sprachen veröffentlicht (deutsch, italienisch und englisch). Wer ihn noch nicht abonniert hat, kann das hier nachholen.

Ich bin daran, meine persönliche Webseite neu zu gestalten und den Blog darin zu integrieren. Näheres folgt!

Ich war am Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.

Zum ersten Mal konnte TexArtAcademy eine Kursleiterin aus den USA begrüssen – sowie viele neue Teilnehmerinnen. Und ich bin äusserst glücklich darüber, dass sich die meisten der neuen Teilnehmerinnen bereits für nächstes Jahr angemeldet haben.

Ich habe eine Facebook Seite für die Seminare aufgeschaltet. Hier findet ihr sie und ich freue mich, wenn ihr auf „gefällt mir“ klickt.

Ich habe immer noch ein paar Punkte auf meiner to-do Liste, aber wenn diese erledigt sind, ist es Zeit, kürzer zu treten, zu relaxen und mir die Erlaubnis zu geben, nichts zu tun. Ich plane, über die Feiertage 2 Wochen Ferien zu machen und die Zeit voll zu geniessen. Was macht ihr?

Ricë Freeman Zachary did a podcast interview of Melanie Testa on cancer and creativity.

Who follows Melly's blog, her Facebook page or has been taking a class from her here in Cadro may know that back in January she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In this podcast she talks about how she made it through chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. How creativity has been helping her. And she talks about her teaching experience in Cadro and her stay in Switzerland.

I just noticed that I never posted the photo I promised to show you - the one of the batched, washed and ironed piece of cloth Melanie Testa gave me (find the post and the photo with the unwashed cloth here, scroll down). It is gorgeous!

I'm thinking of making a small whole cloth quilt. The size is about 22x16". Let's start stitching! Any ideas? I'd love to hear what you would do :-).

Soeben habe ich realisiert, dass ich euch nie den gebatchten, gewaschenen und gebügelten Stoff gezeigt habe, mit dem mich Melanie Testa überrascht hatte (> Blogpost hier, hinunter scrollen bis zum zweitletzten Foto). Er gefällt mir super gut!

Ich werde damit einen kleinen Wholecloth Quilt machen. Das Stück misst zirka 55x40cm. Fangen wir also an zu sticken! Habt ihr Ideen? Ich habe einige, würde aber gerne von euch hören, was ihr damit machen würdet :-).

It's now three weeks since this years classes finished. It was my intention to use the first week for cleaning up and bookkeeping and to spend the second one in the studio to implement everything I had learned with Melly.

But as you already know, a virus hit me. I'm still not doing great, but I'm on the mend (and so is Flori cat).

I'll post below some random shots to show you how TexArtAcademy looks like outside of the workshop area :-).

Inzwischen sind drei Wochen vergangen, seit die diesjährigen Seminare zu Ende gegangen sind. Eigentlich hatte ich geplant, die erste Woche mit Aufräumen und Buchhaltung und die zweite im Atelier zu verbringen. Ich hatte riesig Lust, alles bei Melly gelernte sofort auszuprobieren.

Aber wie ihr ja wahrscheinlich inzwischen wisst, hat mich ein Virus erwischt und ziemlich lahm gelegt. Es geht mir (und Kater Flori) nun endlich besser, aber ich fühle mich immer noch ziemlich schlapp.

Die Fotos oben sind eine kleine zufällige Auswahl mit der ich zeigen möchte, wie es bei TexArtAcademy ausserhalb des Kursraumes aussieht :-).

TexArtAcademy 2011 | Gisela Hafer: Abenteuer Gestaltungslehre (Exploring Design Theory)

Der erste Kurs anlässlich der diesjährigen Seminare hiess Abenteuer Gestaltungslehre. Seien wir ehrlich: wir lieben Kurse, an denen wir etwas "produzieren", auf das wir stolz sind und das wir anschliessend unseren Lieben daheim und unseren Freundinnen zeigen können.

Hand aufs Herz: wer hat sich schon mal an einem Kurs mit Design befasst? NUR mit Design? Das scheint für die meisten ein zu trockenes Thema zu sein. Dennoch haben sich 8 mutige Frauen zu diesem Kurs angemeldet. Gisela Hafer hat ein immenses Wissen über Design ... und die Fähigkeit, dieses Wissen spannend und witzig zu vermitteln.

Verschiedene Designprinzipien wurden angeschaut und zu jedem wurde eine Übung mit Papier geklebt und anschliessend in der Gruppe diskutiert und verglichen. Jede Teilnehmerin konnte so ein kleines, persönliches Skizzenbuch zur Gestaltungslehre mit nach Hause nehmen.

Leider habe ich alle Fotos verloren, die ich an diesem sowie am Collage Kurs, der am nächsten Tag stattfand, machte. Eine der Teilnehmerinnen, Sabine Fittkau, hat mir diese Fotos zur Verfügung gestellt (danke Sabine!). Wer ebenfalls teilgenommen hat und Fotos beisteuern kann, soll mir bitte eine Email schicken. The first class this year was called Exploring Design Theory. Let’s face it: we love to take classes where we “produce” something to be proud of. Something to show our friends and loved ones at home.

To be honest: who has ever been taking a class on design? Design ONLY? For most of us, this seems to be too much theory, not fun. Eight brave students signed up anyway. Gisela Hafer has immense knowledge of design … and the ability to equip her students with knowledge in a fun and exciting way.

Students have been looking at different design rules and made an exercise for each rule, just by gluing black and colored papers. These exercises have been shared and discussed in the group. Each student went home with a personal sketchbook with the fundamental rules of design theory.

Unfortunately, I have lost all the photos I have been taking during the course (and during the Collage class the following day). One of the students, Sabine Fittkau, provided me the ones in this blog post (thanks Sabine!). If you have participated in the class and have photos to share, please email me. Thank you!

I apologize for not having posted the pics earlier. But I got sick right after the seminars and staying at the computer and processing photos was just not exactly what my body needed.

My voice is still cracky and I'm sneezing, but with the help of hot tea, lemon and honey my sore throat will be ok soon.

Where did September go? It’s hard to believe that we are already in October. The weather here is still gorgeous, summery (REAL summer with high temperatures!) and it’s still possible to go to the pool.

I know (and apologize…) I have neglected my blog, but also Twitter and Facebook (not to speak of Google+…). Things have been quite hectic here. The new seminar website had to be ready to be published on October 1, together with the seminar program 2012. And yes, I did it!! Pop over (and bookmark the new URL) and have a look at the site and the 2012 courses. And please leave a comment below and tell me how you like it.

Next year, TexArtAcademy (former Creative Days Ticino) will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. For this special occasion, we decided to run the seminars simultaneously to offer everyone the possibility to celebrate together. The program is very attractive:

a 4 day class with Dorothy Caldwell (one of the very few ones she teaches in Europe!!). I’m pretty sure that Dorothy won’t need an introduction for most of my readers. Otherwise you find it on the website. If you have been at Festival of Quilts 2009 in Birmingham, I know that you have admired her exhibition.

two 2 day classes with Alicia Merrett (they can be combined into a 4 day class). Alicia is a very well known artist, not only in the UK, but also on the continent. What is particularly notable about Alicia’s work is her striking use of colour. It’s an excellent class to use your hand-dyed fabrics! If you have been at Carrefour in Alsace this year, you most probably have visited her exhibition.

Registration is open. Book soon to avoid disappointment. There are only 14 places on each course.

If you come for one (or both) of Melanie Testa’s classes next week, I am happy to tell you that Melly and her husband David arrived safely in Switzerland this morning. I picked them up at Lugano airport and dropped them off at the train station from where they headed off to Lucerne. They will be back in Lugano next Tuesday. And then the fun begins! We are looking forward to be playing with you!

Wo ist bloss der September geblieben? Es ist schwer zu begreifen, dass bereits der Oktober angefangen hat. Wir haben hier immer noch Sommer (kein Altweiber- sondern richtiger, heisser Sommer!). In den letzten Tagen hatten wir nachmittags 27°C und sind noch schwimmen gegangen.

Ich weiss, dass ich in letzter Zeit meinen Blog vernachlässigt habe, aber auch Twitter und Facebook (von Google+ ganz zu schweigen...) und ich entschuldige mich dafür. Hier ging alles relativ hektisch zu und her. Die neue Seminar Webseite musste auf den 1. Oktober fertig und online sein, und mit ihr auch das Seminar Programm 2012. Und ja, ich habe es geschafft!! Schaut euch beides an (und speichert die neue Webadresse unter den Favoriten). Ich freue mich auf eure Kommentare hier auf dem Blog.

Nächstes Jahr wird TexArtAcademy (ehemals Tessiner Kreativ Tage) ihr 10jähriges Jubiläum feiern können. Aus diesem Anlass haben wir beschlossen, ausnahmsweise die Kurse gleichzeitig statt nacheinander durchzuführen. Das erlaubt allen Teilnehmerinnen, miteinander zu feiern. Das Programm ist sehr attraktiv:

ein 4tägiger Workshop mit Dorothy Caldwell (eine der ganz wenigen Gelegenheiten in Europa, einen Workshop mit ihr zu besuchen!). Was einem an ihren Werken besonders auffällt ist ihr bemerkenswerter Umgang mit Farben. Ein idealer Workshop, um all die handgefärbten Stoffe zu verwenden! Wer dieses Jahr im Elsass war, hat ganz sicher ihre Ausstellung bewundert.

Anmeldungen sind ab sofort möglich. Um Enttäuschungen zu vermeiden ist rasches Buchen angeraten, denn in jedem Kurs stehen nur 14 Plätze zur Verfügung.

Wer nächste Woche für ein Seminar (oder beide) mit Melanie Testa ins Tessin kommt: Melly und ihr Mann David sind heute gut in der Schweiz angekommen. Ich habe sie am Flughafen Lugano abgeholt und zum Bahnhof gebracht, von wo aus sie nach Luzern gefahren sind. Sie werden am nächsten Dienstag nach Lugano zurück kommen. Wir freuen uns auf euch!
