Life Boat to Sober Shores

In his new book, "Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?," Tyler rips both the VH1 show and its host, addiction-medicine specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky, who formerly worked at one of the hospitals where he sought treatment.

Tyler recounted that he was at the Los Angeles-area hospital, Las Encinas in 2008, at the same time as Steven Adler, the former drummer for Guns 'N Roses. Adler, who was kicked out of the band in 1990 because his antics were too wild even by the standards of his hedonistic colleagues, was told to fake his drug stupor for the "Celebrity Rehab" cameras, Tyler alleged.

"They wanted him to act out his own messed-up state when he entered rehab. It was ghoulish and unreal. They gave him 30 grand for the episode, he snorted it all, crashed his car, and he ended up in jail detox," Tyler wrote.

"It didn't seem to me all that ethical using actual f---ed-up people like Steven Adler in a reality show, but who am I to say? Not to mention getting trashed celebrities to mime their own self-destructive nosedives which they then sensationalize on a melo-f----ing-dramatic reality show, which so traumatizes them they end up in worse shape than ever -- from the drugs they bought with the money from the show."

A spokeswoman for Pinsky declined comment, suggesting that queries be directed to Tyler himself. Emails to spokesmen for VH1 and Adler were not immediately answered.

Tyler went on to describe the addiction theories of Pinsky, a board-certified physician, as "psychopharmalogical dogma."

"It's interesting that Dr. Pinsky never came up to me, never made any advances," Tyler wrote. "He certainly didn't ask me to be on his celebrity rehab (sic) because -- at best -- I would have gone, "Are you f---ing kidding me?"

Pinsky, a bestselling author who rose to fame as co-host of the syndicated radio call-in show "Loveline," is no longer associated with Las Encinas, the object of a series of complaints about care at the facility.

Pinsky comes off relatively lightly compared to others in Tyler's book, particularly his own bandmates. Tyler describes them as "pricks" -- hypocritical, henpecked husbands, some of whom have lingering drug problems.

Brandi Favre, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly manufacturing crystal meth at a condo in Mississippi.
Brandi Favre, 34, who lives in Pass Christian, Miss., was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and generation of hazardous waste, both felonies, according to the local newspaper. Undercover agents raided the condo in Diamondhead, Miss., after buying meth from two suspects at a gas station off Interstate 10. The apartment had "an overwhelming odor [with] smoke and fumes," and meth was found cooking in the bathtub, a police sergeant said.
Favre and two other suspects in the condo were arrested. All five suspects were taken to the Hancock County Barn for decontamination and then charged. They were due in court Thursday. Brandi Favre reportedly has a history of trouble with the law, including prior charges for shoplifting and unlawful use of a weapon.

Lindsay Lohan meets Betty Ford and Tom Arnold

Lindsay Lohan may prefer the jail over the hardline structure of the famous rehab facility where she has been reported to have become friends with Tom Arnold. The Betty Ford Center is known for having some strict rules, especially in the "most severe" treatment, which Lohan is learning the hard way. For example, Lindsay does not have a cell phone. Lindsay is not allowed ever to be alone outside the center; she must always have either a fellow rehabber or counselor or volunteer with her. Lindsay is not allowed to wear sunglasses or hats, which can be used to hide contraband or the effects of drug use. Lindsay is being drug tested regularly. Lindsay is allowed to leave campus, but must be supervised and have earned leaves. Among her field trips: a shopping expedition.

Lindsay is not allowed to have any alcohol-based products, including nail polish remover, hair gel, hairspray, medicines. Lindsay is not allowed to have caffeine, but she is allowed to smoke in a designated area. All this fun is setting back Lohan about $50,000 for what's anticipated to be a 90-day stay. Should she meet the progress requirements, she'll then move to a group house off campus next month in addition to attending regular AA meetings.

Lohan and Jail

For some, the only interventionist that works is the reality wake-up call of jail. Often, the legal system by default is the acting interventionist. But, there are alternatives to jail. Most courts view treatment programs in favor of incarceration.

Rehab over further incarceration for Lindsay Lohan

Treatment was given priority over incarceration in the case of Lindsay Lohan. Sheriff Steve Whitmore confirmed that the 24-year-old actress would go straight to a court-ordered treatment facility upon release, but he would not name the program. "The court order specified that certain named people would pick her up. It's our understanding she went directly to a treatment center," he said, adding that, "when an inmate is released, they leave with the clothes they came in. She was given two huge bags full of mail and books. She was noticeably moved by the amount of mail and books sent to her. She thanked everybody as she left." The paper reported that there was the expected crush of media outside the Century Regional Detention Facility awaiting the release of Lohan, who on July 20 began serving her sentence for violating probation on a 2007 DUI conviction. She was originally slated to check into a different facility, but the judge in the case changed the location after fearing information could be leaked about Lohan's treatment. "There was concern that [Morningside Recovery] was not a secure enough facility," district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said. Judge Marsha Revel was reportedly also concerned that drugs could be easily passed to the "Mean Girls" actress at the other facility.
Lohan could potentially be sent back to jail if the court is notified of any additional probation violations during her treatment. In the year following her release, she will be subject to random drug testing.
Lohan is a textbook case of spriling addiction that gets caught in the snowball of punishment handed down by ruling judges. Indeed, incarceration often is the only intervention that works despite what you see on TV. If she truly surrendered in jail, then Lindsay can enjoy the freedom of sobriety.

Lindsay Lohan is due in court on Tuesday morning for a probation revocation hearing that could end up with the actress behind bars - but the actress' father is hoping for rehab. In deed, alternative sentencing should be recognized by the court as the appropriate punishment.

"I pray the judge mandates [Lindsay] to rehab, regardless of anything. It's the only way she will get off the [prescriptions], which have literally, taken her life away," Michael Lohan told Access Hollywood on Tuesday. "The sad part is that she doesn't even realize it!"

Recovering addict Jeremy London was held at gunpoint and forced to use drugs last week by alleged kidnappers in Palm Springs, Calif., police say. A suspect, Brandon Adams, 26, has already been arrested in the case.

London, 37, was attempting to change a flat tire on his car on June 10 at 2 p.m., when a group of men approached to assist him.

"After the tire was changed, [London] offered the men a ride home," a police statement reads. "A short time later, he was held at gunpoint in the vehicle by one of the occupants. The gunman forced London to drive to various locations throughout the city, purchase alcohol and use illicit drugs." After approximately 12 hours in captivity, London was able to escape on June 11 around 2 a.m. and notify police.
