Hey guys, so I have a friend and her name is Charlotte Peys and instead of having actual fingers, she has pencil-fingers. I know, right... weird. Five pencils on each hand. Most of them are greyleads of varying thickness, and she's also got one stumpy yellow pencil where her pinky would normally go. She keeps them very neatly sharpened at all times, which is admirable if not a tad dangerous. Her back scratching is divine though! And what she lacks in ability related to kneading cookie dough with her bare hands, she makes up for by being an incredibly good illustrator. I mean, she has pencil-fingers, so duh! How unjust a world do we live in that a girl born with pencil-fingers would be bad at drawing?

Pictured above is Charlotte's take on my name game shame scribble sheet, proof that 1) she's a very good illustrator and 2) those pencil-fingers are not going to waste! I like how she says "I think stones are living beings" because me too. It is so sticky-hot in Melbourne right now that I'm wearing a bag of frozen peas as a tiny shawl because my bedroom is a hot box and - get this! - all the fans in the city have sold out. Madness. TOTAL MADNESS. CHAOS. SWEATY CHAOS! SALTY MADNESS! My thighs are much too slippery to be writing blog posts in this sans-fan bedroom but whatever, I have an interview with my sweet and clever pal Lee Crutchley to share with you today. His new book The Art Of Getting Started is more desirable than a onesie made of ice packs. Did she really just say that? Totally. Admittedly it doesn't lower your body temperature but it does offer playful ways to get unstuck and loosen up your creativity. See? Now must go find more frozen vegetables to fashion into a chilled bonnet. Enjoy the interview!

What the heck! So you're telling me 2013 is nearly, almost, just-about over? I don't mean to scoff but you might be getting a litttttle ahead of yourself, fat bearded man in a santa suit. It's only like, August? October? Wait. December? December 23rd?! Oh my gosh you're right, 2013 is almost dunzo. That means 2014 is starting to poke its newborn head out of the birth canal of time! It also means this is the last post of 2013, featuring these lovely scribble diary pages by artist Marissa Rossi. Highlights (for me) include: love thyself, make a "couch-bowl" (COOL) and initiate lots of "up top" high-five action. Solid life tips, right there. See ya'll in the new year!

Sketch Interview with Alyssa!

So I was poking around on Alyssa Mees's tumblr the other day, thinking "SKILLZ" and then I was curious to see what her start-of-the-day routine looks like. So I emailed her to ask that question (plus a few more) and she was sweet and sent over a cute series of hand-drawn answers, such as the morning haze pictured above. Then I shared those answers on our Instagram. And that, kids, is how an interview is born! Any questions?

The Volcano Goes Pop

Today's blog post is interactive (for maximum enjoyment) so please equip yourself with a cold can of fizzy drink. Like, right now... (pause)... Got one? Cool. Now I want you to pick up the can and give it a shake. Shakey-shake-shake! That's the way. Feels good, right?? Loose yourself in the reckless sloshing of combustible liquid! Now I want you to open the can. Wait: maybe go outside first. Okay, now open the can. Enjoy the thrill as your trembling fingers grip the pull tab. Then... pop! Fizzy brown lava EXPLODES from the aluminium volcano! Fizzzzzzzzzzz! Fizzzz! Fizz. Okay, now please giggle your face off because this is a totally silly thing to have done and you are now covered in sticky liquid-sugar. Haha. What a mess. Who's going to clean this up? I guess you are. Gosh, life is so messy and ridiculous. Sometimes all we can do is giggle like maniacs and enjoy the small sweetnesses - like licking exploded soda off our wrists.

Hello! I'm back. Did you notice I'd snuck out of the party for a moment? I just nipped off to buy more beers - but then I somehow ended up on a plane? headed for Berlin? with a backpack full of of clothing and travel-sized toothpaste? So weird. It took me like, two months to get to back here. But that's not important - what did I miss? Oh dammit I forgot the beers. Anyway. Look! I found a friend on the way home! Her name's Chelsey Pettyjohn. She goes by the name Hideous Things. Yeah, she actually painted that jacket herself. Crazy, right? I knew you two would get along. Hey, do you guys want a beer? Okay. Today's scribbler is Duza, aka Dusty Brasseur! Duza's scribbles are like a nighttime walk through the forest without a flashlight. The more you look around and your eyes adjust, the more you see little faces pop out and - wait, what was that noise?!! If this was real-life I'd poke you in a ribs right now and make you squeal! Today's scribbler is Famous When Dead and honestly? I'm not sure what to write for this one. Not because I don't like it because GOSH DAMN I DO... but my eyeballs are tripping out! If my eyeballs had little hands (stick with me here) then those eyeball-hands would be touching my brain all over the face in a very distracting way right now. Like, WOAAAH BABE LOOK AT THAT. You know what I'm saying? Sure you do. And now (if you don't mind) one of MY eyeball-hands is grabbing one of YOUR eyeball-hands so they can skip off into the sunset together. Bye guys! Have fun! Not Amusing At All

Well well well... what do we have here? Is it today's scribbler? I think it might be. And her name is Paulette Jo! Did you notice those fungi lungs? See this is why I didn't eat mushrooms as a kid. Give those suckers a damp place to hang-out (aka, my internal organs) and they're bound to get comfy and never leave and have mushroom-babies all over my insides. Ew! But Paulette makes it look so pretty, I almost wouldn't mind a little fungi garden in my lungs. The air would be fresh and tasty, right? See how well I paid attention in Health class? WHO IS TODAY'S SCRIBBLER??! That's the question on everyone's lips this morning. I see a handsome milkman fumbling with his glass jars and pre-pubescent boys scraping their kneecaps - everyone is so clumsy with anticipation! The sunrise this morning was like an agonising slow-clap yet to reach it's glorious climax of applause! Nuns and expectant mothers and chubby bachelors on the streets whisper, "sh shshh shh, today's scribbler, shh sh... who is it? who is it?" as they nibble on their cheese baguettes.

OKAY MY FRIENDS! NO LONGER MUST YOU WAIT! Today's scribbler izzzz.... (cut to closeup of drippy brow being wiped)... izzz... (ad break)... iz... Blood Of A Unicorn & Stardust Juice

This may be my favourite post title ever on this blog! Blood Of A Unicorn & Stardust Juice. Sounds like the sort of stinky potion you'd hold your nose while drinking then feel your feet fatten up like cloud-pillows and float you into a maze of your own drippy mind. ORRR, maybe it just tastes like chocolate milk and keeps you alert to catch up on The Voice UK? That doesn't seem worth paper-cutting a unicorn for, though. Hmm maybe it does? The Voice UK is really good this year and I've fallen behind.

Anyway! Today's scribbler is Joanna Krótka! So if you're curious about this soon-to-be celebrity fad of Unicorn Blood & Stardust Juice (UBSJ for those in the know), you should ask her about it. Get in there before Eva Mendes does. BONUS: One awesome side-effect of UBSJ seems to be drawing skillzzzz, cos Joanna got those!

We can only hope that Michelle doodled these pretty lines while balancing her tush on that tiny foldable bicycle seat. While speeding down a steep hill. With fluro streamers on her handlebars. Hello sweet-cakes! Give me a cuddle you beauitful creature! Hey, wait. Why are you backing away slowly? That smile of yours is getting a bit wobbly. Are you worried that I'll bounce in for a bear-hug then linger too long around your neck-area until you feel that egg taco I ate for breakfast tickle your earlobe? Yes that'd be creepy. But that won't happen because this is the hugless internet. Hurrah! Today I am a chubby-bubby in a thick cloth nappy! I have a feather-light bow slung across my left shoulder and my cheeks are crimson like a nappy rash! The fingers I am typing with are stumpy and fat, but surprisingly skilful at archery. Who am I???

I reckon if this blog was Lady Gaga in her many festive skins than today would be her "day off" where she doesn't wear a lick of makeup and just hangs out in bed with her dogs, farting and eating lots of cereal. Today we keep it simple! Today we rock bed-hair, with a happy little smile on our mouth! Today we eat three bowlfuls of pasta and cheese because it's the best thing ever! Two ingredients. Done. Lookie lookie! Our first ever Scribble Match! Yesss! Our "yin" is Paati Matsushita from Brazil (remember Paati?) and our "yang" is Spanish illustrator Ana Sebastian. Today's scribbler is lovely mina-milk! I know, I know... the word "lovely" is a bit overused for describing lady-illustrators. But I think in this scenario it's really true! It's a simple matter of deduction (yes I did just watch six episodes of Elementary in a row). I mean, how non-lovely could an illustrator who draws sweet sleeping kittens really be? And oh! Look! Up there. Yes: a sleeping kitten drawn with pink pen. What kind of non-lovely person owns a pink pen? Exactly. mina-milk is lovely! CASE CLOSED, bye!

I thought we'd have a bit of fun today. You like fun, yes? No? No fun for you? Ohhh you had a mouthful of cheeseburger and your "yes" was muffled into a grunt and I mistook that grunt as a no? Yes? Right? Cool. Okay let's have some damn fun then! Wipe that gooey cheese off your bottom lip (or leave it there for later) and let's get started.

It's much less awkward than a blind date and you don't even have to put on pants or wipe the gooey cheese off your bottom lip. Cosmic Nuggets!

This week's scribbler is Cosmic Nuggets! And his crew of glowing monsters who seem to have been freshly woken from a sweet sleep and are only a bit grumpy about it. I also have a conspiracy theory (yes! yes I do!) that Mr Cosmic Nuggets printed off my scribble sheet then scrunched it into a fistful and swallowed it whole. Then he waited (for one hour, two days, I can't be sure) until his nose began to itch and out sneezed this glorious shuffle of half-awake, hand-drawn monsters! It's actually pretty obvious now that I've said it aloud. But feel free to do your own research. Orrrr.... just follow me blindly into the Sneeze & Scribble Conspiracy Club!
