The Social Media and I: Bridging the Past, Present and Future

I am a Filipino blogger, writer and concerned citizen of our native land – the Philippines. Let me elaborate its essence in determining which way I could maintain my development as a person. Thus, rearing to be self-motivated kind of an individual, I can gladly recommend social media as a new modern form, ways and attitude, changing greater impact on mankind; in which I had learned so much from it. While I was developing my true self in discovering my talent and skills, it entwined within my heart, mind and soul. Because of that, I balanced things into proper perspective by my own respect and enthusiasm in the past, at present and the next generation to come.

To begin with, the Social Media has had one of the greatest impacts on the twenty-first century. Websites such as Facebook and Twitter make it possible for people to contact family and friends across the globe at no cost, unlike in the 80's, the situation was truly vague. This has opened a brand new way for people of all ages to communicate with loved ones, meet new people, and express themselves freely and openly. While there are risks involving this new technology but they can easily be avoided, checked and monitored. It gives the easy way to interact with different kind of people who had the initiatives to inform and be informed.

Social media has gained a false reputation as a place for scams, fraud and predators but in fact these problems can be easily prevented. Most social media websites have privacy settings, minimum age requirements, and provide a list of safety precautions to follow. Some of these security measures include hiding your photos, avoiding publication of personal information, and controlling who can access profile content. Easy access to both safety and socialization provide a whole new world of communication.  Prior to the social media, means of communication were limited.

Social media makes communication fast, convenient, and free of charge. Users across the globe can connect with one another within seconds. They can share photos, have conversations and even talk face to face. A few examples include: students are able to discuss educational topics, OFW's can communicate with family and friends without any hassles, no matter how far away they are from home. Not only does this allow users to meet new friends that have common interests, but it allows users to maintain friendships and complete business transactions. A convenient yet affordable social network brings people within a society together like my fun-loving countrymen.

The Filipinos around the world emerged as one of the top users of the internet as a form of interacting together in fun-filled ways and endeavors. It’s really the haven for me and to all people who used intelligently to forward their thinking in the twenty-second century.

Thus, the internet and social media marketing are changing the face of business marketing. An extreme-shift of changes developed and opportunities come into view with so many different methods and forms. It helps the very core of every company who uses social media as a form of advertising their products. Business people composed themselves to the present behavior of reaching-out their own loyal customers; patronizing products that gave them the total satisfaction and worth for their money.

So, from the onset of social media, it greatly affects my views and personality, as to why I valued most of my endeavors online. As a Filipino writer and blogger, I could promote myself to the new generation of our beloved country - the Philippines.

A weak young man…A first true love…A beautiful-rich woman obsessed with love…A kind-loving wife…A circle of friends…Chasing their dreams abroad as OFWs…All brought together with their destiny to love aflame with conflicts, lies, lusts, ambition, hatred, revenge and the struggle for life in a faraway place.

Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW): The Game of Life is a story of young man from a small island of Negros Occidental, the Philippines, who treaded his life to a city and found his true love. He never thought that life in Manila (The City of Hopes) is a rugged terrain of heartaches, lies, hatred and revenge. He found his true-self when destiny engulfed him working in a faraway place called Dubai (The City of Dreams) as an OFW. Lied and played his game so well to reach his dreams; used his charms to build corporations and became the first OFW Billionaire in the history of the Philippine Islands!

Marco Fernando’s new status in life was confronted by a series of discoveries he never imagined. Poverty consumed him to continue his journey until a rich woman Danielle Gustilo shed light playing the game he mastered; she never thought that Marco became her enemy for life. Marco decided to play the dirty game of love without the knowledge of his wife Ayah Isabel Gonzales while reaching his dreams abroad, and a lifetime journey in molding his future. He longed for happy-family-life through his money, but boredom surrounds him that nearly broke his family.

Excerpt:

She gave me what I wanted for her, the satisfaction, the orgasms…but, let me set the scene, just for your total information.

Imagine.... the night's cool, brisk, quiet, and heavy with the fresh rain. A small breeze swayed through the bottom of the slightly open windows, bringing in the scent of the sweet fresh rain. It mingled scantily with the fragrance of fruity-sweet-apple emanating from the several candles strategically placed around the room that flicker slowly in the breeze. The pale blue curtains danced and tickled in the skimming breeze. The cool breeze touched over the thick blue carpet, mingling the scent of the beautiful rain with the fragrance already laced into the weaves. A candle sits nestled in one corner of the room on a black wrought iron glass top table, illuminating the pale blue behind it. A candle sits on the two windows across the room from each other, the flames dancing tightly in time and in tune with one another, but never going out. Two more candles sit on the center of two end tables snuggled close to either side of the bed. The faintest music of wind chimed that hang in the last window behind me can be heard over the sweet tinker and echo of the rain. Our king sized bed sits in the center of the room, draped in glassy red satin sheets, topped with a thick red feather blanket, with several plush feather pillows lining the cherry wood headboard. The light was so very dim, but even so I can see everything clearly in the muted glow.

I can see Danielle’s form sitting on the bed, head resting comfortably on the lush pillows. She’s wearing a red silk nightgown with her body curve drawn from inside. Her feet are crossed and propped up on the folded down blanket. Her arms are crossed over her soft breasts pulling tightly against the taut fabric.

I was standing naked in front of the bed looking at her.

I wore the crooked sexy smile that she had always found so dreamy on me and it always made her weak at the knees. I stretched my muscular body, arms raised over my head and her feet reaching towards me. My body relaxed again and scooted down a little, still looking at her.

Her eyes slowly slide down my body, then even more leisurely back up. Again, her gaze lingered on my muscular body.
Her arms are around my shoulders now as she feels my move more on top of her, feeling every curve of her body welding with mine. Our breaths get shallow and quickened, but neither of those things matter right now. All that matters in this one moment is Danielle and me. She began to close her eyes when I begin to enter her lovely heaven. I whisper to her to open her eyes and look into my eyes, and my first blow made her totally energized.

We rock back and forth in this sensual dance. Time goes by us, until she’s calling my name and her nails are drawing blood. I hugged her so tight and kissed her so hard. We collapsed together, our passions spent, and gave her silver ring as an engagement. She rested into my arms breathing slowly and contentedly.

We soon fall asleep in each other’s arms, knowing to myself that I captured her, like a prisoner in a cage!

Once in my life I was indescribably sad. My girlfriend broke our relationship up, and I didn't know why. I was completely devastated. I felt like my life had come to an end. I don't know how I managed to keep doing my everyday duties though I made it despite my deep sorrow and anger. Then it was like the storm clouds that kept my life under the darkness for so much time opened apart to let a sudden ray of light enlighten my mind. I realized at that very moment that one of my long time friends, a very nice and attractive girl called Valery, had tried to help me getting over my condition by all means. She was in fact the only one of my friends who didn't give up trying to help me. In fact she had tried to help me more times than a simple friend would do. I started to realize how indifferent I had been to her efforts to lend me a helping hand. A help I had been disregarding for a long time. Just for a moment I found myself thinking if she would like me at least a little.

I always felt attracted to her, but I'd never imagine that kind of girl would feel attracted to an average guy like me. In fact, my low self-esteem had blurred my vision enough to ignore that I was attractive enough for a girl like her, and that she was trying to help me because she was in love with me. I knew it from that very moment when I started to remember all the attentions she had brought to me, the caressing sound of her voice when she talked to me about some other person who could come into my life to heal the pain, the letter she once wrote for me though I hadnt paid enough attention to. In fact that letter was forgotten into a drawer I looked for it, and by reading it once again I found that her words expressed her love for me. Then I realized what a fool I had been for a long time. I had at my hands reach the solution to my trouble since the very moment my ex had left me!

Now I have my girlfriend and we are so in love that we are planning our wedding into just a few months. Now I can realize that the power of a simple phrase could help me more than any other thing because it opened my mind to another way of seeing my condition. That magic change in my life was triggered by a person who left a legacy of wisdom into a simple set of words that helped me more than I could imagine.

How to Combat Mental Fatigue

Getting the right brain to work in harmony with your left brain is quite a challenge.

I have this mental picture of my brain as a lion tamer. My left brain is cracking the whip, forcing my right brain to perform artistically as it roars loudly, but complies nonetheless. Needless to say, this tug-of-war between cranial regions can produce mental fatigue. And prolonged mental fatigue is the preface of burnout, which must be avoided at all costs.

There are few things you can do to relieve the pressure on your gray cells, and taking these precautions will quickly extinguish the flames of burnout before you are charred beyond recognition. When you start to feel a little crispy, remember these things:

1) Keep your sense of humor. Laughter, seeing the humorous side, will always relieve your mental strain and brighten your outlook on life.

2) Make to-do lists. When your head becomes filled with the minutiae of all the billions of details you need to remember, take time to write it all down. Make a list of everything that is bothering you. The physical act of writing lets your left brain stop nagging you long enough to allow your right brain to get down to the business of creating.

3) Take a nature break and spend some time out of doors, no matter what the weather is like. Just a few minutes to breathe fresh air, feel the sun on your skin, study the sky and cloud formations, watch a bird fly past, make a snowball, pick a flower or go barefoot in the grass will renew your energy level and refresh your spirit.

4) Exercise daily. Even a short walk will help get oxygen to your brain, and the brain chemicals (endorphins) released during aerobic exercise help the brain to function better.

5) Eat regularly. A brief interlude to have snacks and perhaps some chocolate will give your painting a fresh new perspective.

6) Stay organized. Take the time to straighten out your paperwork, materials and other undertakings which relates to your professional job.

7) Seek assistance, gather support and rally the troops during the busy spells. Delegate as much responsibility as possible, and pass on every task that you do not have to do yourself.

8) Take a holiday. This is a variation on the theme of the proverbial mental health day. Go to a place of your choice that could allow your thoughts to assemble peacefully with your motivation.

9) Reward yourself. Pat yourself on the back often, and indulge yourself with a little treat when you’ve accomplished something on your job.
If the quick fixes don’t seem to douse the flames of burnout, you probably have a more serious case. True burnout is the hopeless feeling you get when you have too much to do, with too many responsibilities and not enough time to get everything completed in the manner you want. If you function this way for too long, you will begin to feel like blackened toast.

Beware of the symptoms of burnout: the fleeting desire to go get a “real” job; being totally exhausted even after a full night’s sleep; suffering from recurring or chronic illness; or finding yourself short-tempered and overly cranky. There are other dreaded symptoms of burnout: Procrastination, Pessimism, Peevish Perfectionism. If you can use any of these four words to describe your current frame of mind, it is time to perform triage and salve the blisters.

Work is as natural as play or rest and protects man from boredom and vice.

Work is as natural as play or rest. There is a strong impression that people dislike work and they always try their best to avoid it. It is vehemently asserted that people are naturally lazy. But that is not so; work is a natural activity. Everybody needs to do some work. The reason is very simple. The human body is an organic system which converts inputs of food, water and air into outputs of behavior. Work is the most important form of such behavior. The human body generates a certain amount of energy, physical and mental, for which work is the best outlet. In the absence of work a human being will atrophy. A noted author has said: “You ask…why I go on working. I go on working for the same reason a hen’s goes on laying eggs.” Work can be a pleasure, an energizing activity. It recharges the human body and mind.

Man is endowed with many faculties. He can think. He can learn and store knowledge. He possesses imagination. He wants to understand himself. He wants to communicate with the outside world. He wants to be creative. He wants to achieve the impossible.
Work gives man an opportunity for self-understanding, self-expression and self-development. Suppose a man is writing a report. As he proceeds, he gets to know his limitations: so he understands himself better. His thinking and writing is a matter of self-expression. And this exercise gives him an opportunity to develop his talent.

Work is like a mirror in which one can see one’s real self very clearly. When an individual is working vigorously, it is clear indication of his physical and mental health. Work in fact sums up the past of the individual, his habits, his ability to concentrate, his educational and cultural background, his motivation and his values. Work provides the individual with an objective scale for assessing his progress and self-development. For instance if a worker is not well, if he is a habitual late-comer, if he is not well-trained, his performance will be poor. His work therefore reflects all these factors. He can, if he so desires, improve himself. His work again will show how much progress he has made. Therefore, an individual should be as interested in his work as he is in his health and his well-being.

Work protects man from boredom and vice. Work is an essential as air, water and food. When a man is without work he is bored and boredom is the cruelest punishment that can be imposed on anyone. Boredom destroys a person physically, mentally and spiritually. It is a silent but soul-killing form of torture. Generally, a person who has no work tries to escape boredom by engaging in other activities such as gambling or becoming addicted to drugs and liquor. He may become quarrelsome and destructive.

Even an ordinary worker who takes his daily work seriously attains some measure of contentment and peace of mind. He is self-disciplined. He develops good habits. He is regular and does not overspend. On the contrary, a worker who neglects his work is bored, undisciplined and develops various vices. He is denying himself one of the essentials of good life – work which will utilize his time and energy meaningfully.

The 2nd OFW and Family Summit 2012

Yesterday, 22nd of November 2012, I attended the 2nd OFW and Family Summit 2012 at World Trade Center which took me and my wife to walked from corner EDSA and Roxas Boulevard around seven in the morning. Our place from Camella Homes Springville in Molino 3 Bacoor City took half an hour to travel.

I wanted to walked this way when I felt the morning breeze and the new environment touched my heart. While walking going to our destination, I took these pictures as a remembrance that I was here, on this day, walking along the street of this peaceful place.

The event was a success in terms of its organization and presentation. I took some pictures of the interior with my cellphone camera.

Are You Old Enough to Do The Exercises for Later Life?

Young muscles that are not used come to resemble the muscles of the aged.

To a very considerable extent, the reverse of that statement is also true: symptoms of aging may in fact be symptoms of disuse. Many senior citizens who exercise can hold off these symptoms and cussed in preserving a youthful appearance, psyche, and level of fitness.

The mention of “psyche” is important. Upon entering his 60’s, or the retirement period, or any significant stage of later life, a person may feel that he is dying a small death. He may find it difficult to face the changes that later life brings: reduced involvement, more time to think about himself, a sense of diminishment and decreased importance, and so on.

He may find it less difficult if he has remained physically active, or if he can become physically active. By retaining some vigor, he may also retain a positive feeling about himself. He may have greater courage, and thus be able to try out new and stimulating experiences. He may move with greater ease and grace, presenting a trim and attractive figure. And the fit older person has a degree of independence that his less fit neighbor does not have. He need not call on friends, relatives, or others for help. He retains a large measure of personal freedom.

The principles behind a golden-age fitness program are essentially the same as those already specified for younger and mature adults. But the older person, perhaps even more than the younger one, has to move in easy stages. Even after testing and medical clearance, he should not undertake too much too fast. He will probably want to increase repetitions as his program progresses, and gradually add more difficult exercises. The main alternative, to overload by increasing intensity, might cause undue strain.

Physiologically, the older person faces a slight different problem from the younger. He cannot reach the same high heart rates that the younger one achieves. Thus the older person has a correspondingly lower target heart rate.

The older person may be exercising just as hard as his younger counterpart. But the older person’s pulse rate response will be lower. He will have reached the same percentage of his maximum as the younger person, only sooner. Those realities apply to women as well as to men. Women can achieve approximately the same maximum heart rates as men of comparable ages.

Warm-up and cool-down are as important or more so for older people as for younger. Running in place warms up the body effectively; so do easy stretching, pulling, and rotating exercises. In the main part of the workout, vigorous exercise should be alternated with periods of less strenuous activity.

A Warm-up Routine. The older person planning his or her own fitness program may want to invent a warm-up series of exercises. Alternatively, he may want to try the plan: the routine is performed over a five-or-six-minute period.

1) Take a deep breath while rising on your toes with arms extended over your head. Exhale slowly. Repeat three times, then lift your left and right knees in succession. Repeat the knee lifts ten times.

2) Start walking. You will want to increase the amount of walking you do by small increments. Walk erect, keeping your head up and remaining comfortable. Concentrate on walking heel to toe. That means that as you put your foot down, rock forward to your toes, thus strengthening your leg muscles. Gradually pick up the pace of your stride.

Whatever the older person exerciser does to extend or supplement the daily schedule, he should keep in mind that he can retain the high level of fitness by his own energy input. Always consult your doctor with regards to your daily exercise routine.

CHAPTER 6 – THE OFFER

Brando and James boarded the plane heading to Bacolod City airport, actually it’ll landed at Silay Airport, the newly opened airport. The abrupt transferring of the airport was actually a planned tourism development of the city of Bacolod and Silay City, for the unification of the Metro Cities Development Board.

The ticket seller explained to Brando and James about this new development. On the plane, one of the topics they talked about was the transferring of airport from Bacolod City to Silay City.
“James, you know what, this transferring of the airport is not a good way to uplift the image of Bacolod, as if, the city leaders gave Silay City a gateway for improvement that their own.”
“Yes Brando, I’m with you for that reason, but, you see, Bacolod airport is small, the runway is not safe for there are residents around its perimeter. So, I think, its better this way, in Silay City.”

“Let’s see in the future..”

“By the way friend, where are you heading after arriving in Silay Airport?” James asked.
“You know, I have to stay with my cousin in the town of Binalbagan…near the Sugar Central. It’s been a long time now that I didn’t visit them. In fact, this is a surprise visit.”
“You’re on vacation?”James asked.

“Yes…yes…yes friend.”

“Good Brando! Why not visit our place in Hinigaran first, before heading to Binalbagan? Our place’s truly fantastic; lots of rivers, falls, forest and amazing mountain view. My family will be glad if you can…”

“Yes..yes my friend. I’m happy for your invitation. I will go with you for..let’s say…2 days staying there? It’s okay with you?”

“Okay, I’m happy friend that you accepted my invitation. My son will be happy too! Also, my wife Melba!”

“James, you’re married? Can you tell me your story?...while we eat our breakfast?”

James told his story without any hindrances whatsoever to Brandon.

CHAPTER 5 - THE FRIENDSHIP

It’s early in the morning when Brando arrived at the domestic airport, the Philippine Airlines. He wanted to buy ticket going to Bacolod city, the capital city of Negros Occidental, but it’s closed. He had to wait for tomorrow’s trading hours to purchased airline ticket. Brando went to the coffee shop, bought a cup of coffee and settled at the bench near the shop. Some passengers were sleeping waiting for their flights; some were chatting just to pass the time.

He nearly consumed his coffee when a man sat near him, eating biscuit crackers. He’s carrying a backpack too, but he’s too shabby for his clothing. No one could ever think that this man lived a healthy and stable life. Tension showed upon when he finished eating. He’s looking at the darkness of the night, instead of sleeping. Curious about him, Brando looked at him with remorse inside his heart. All of the sudden, the man glanced at him with tears in his eyes.

Brando called him to know what bothered him so much. The man slowly stood, walked towards Brando and sat beside him. Brando extended his right hand.

“Hello friend, I’m Brando. I’m travelling alone going to Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. But, I don’t have a plane ticket yet, so, I have to wait for seven hours more to purchase at the ticket booth. Are you alone? Ohhh, by the way…what’s your name friend?”

“Ahhh…Ohh..my name is James…James Montero,” still holding Brando’s right hand.

“Are you alright James? What can I do for you to help?”

“It’s a long story…but I need financial help to be backed home in our barrio. I have my plane ticket but going by bus…my money is not enough. Could you help me Brando?

“You’re going to Bacolod too?”

“Yes amigo.”

“We’ll wait for the ticket booth to open and I’ll buy my ticket. We’ll going together James.”

“It’s fine for me.”

“You want to eat? Come on, there’s an open restaurant over there.”

“Okay Brando.”

James was very happy for knowing his newfound friend. He had a notion that Brando came from a well-to-do family. They ate together in a restaurant, and their friendship grew as the time passed.
