San Diego, CA quartet Chasing Claymores take pop-rock to another level in their new EP, Hindsight's 20/20. Using the genre as a foundation, these five tracks build on the heavy integration of alt-rock and pop-punk, while a fiery passion moves them ever-forward. Between heated, hooky choruses and a preference for anthemic, group vocals, they've created a larger-than-life sound, and one that's too catchy to forget once the EP's ran its course. Spin it in full below.
When the Weeknd and Frank Ocean were getting famous and reaping tons of critical love last year, a small but vocal cabal of R&B-friendly critics carped that the indie rock writers of the world, people who historically haven’t cared much about R&B, were getting sucked in by showy art-school affectations, and that there were plenty of people already working within the major-label system who were doing great work to far less acclaim. Pretty much all these writers mentioned Miguel, an L.A.-born singer and songwriter who scored a few minor hits in 2010, as an example of the sort of artist who the critical zeitgeist was overlooking.
Foxygen is the bi-coastal songwriting duo of Sam France (vocals, Olympia, Wash., 22 years old) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards, NYC, 22). They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need.

They create a sometimes-impressionistic, sometimes-hyper-real portrait of sounds from specific places and times. Yet, it never comes across as anything but absolutely modern music.
"Granted, it won’t be for everyone, but when you can bring together the untouchable atmospherics of Sigur Rós with the heartbreaking, contemplative, and soaring finesse of The Antlers, it means you’re on to something, and Port St. Willow is on to something."

Port St. Willow is the music project of Nick Principe, originally formed in Portland, OR in 2009. His first album, “Even // Wasteland,” was self-released in Fall 2010.

In early 2012, PSW shifted from west to east, traveling back home to live and work out of Brooklyn, New York.

The first full-length record, “Holiday” was self-released on the 15th of May 2012.
AVAN LAVA began as a conversation between Producers/Musicians Le Chev and Ian Pai during an overnight bus ride after performing at the Sao Paulo Bienal with Fischerspooner, a band with which both still work and perform. That night in the fall of 2008, en route to Rio de Janeiro, Le Chev and Ian shared their love of Prince, Daft Punk, electronic beats, R & B, and Indie music and contemplated how those things could all be melded into one sound, one band. A few months later, back in NYC, while at a reading of “The Last Goodbye” (a musical adaptation of Romeo & Juliet set to the music of Jeff Buckley), they discovered vocalist Tom Hennes. They knew that they had found the perfect vocalist for their project the moment he sung the first words of "Corpus Christi Carol."
Self-released through her own Picture Show Records, By the Horns is Julia Stone‘s follow-up to February’s EP Let’s Forget All the Things That We Say and earlier debut solo effort The Memory Machine from 2010. Produced by Thomas Bartlett and Patrick Dillett (Antony & the Johnsons, David Byrne) it was supposedly inspired by The National’s High Violet; apparent in her compelling and stripped-down take on ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’, which appears early on, as the second track on the recording.

Julia Stone's new solo album 'By The Horns' will be available May 29th, 2012 via Nettwerk Music Group.
Forming in March 2009' New York based My Arcadia wasted no time establishing a name for themselves. The band's singer, Jacqui Sandell, fits the band perfectly, in an era where female-fronted groups are a rarity. Her pop melodies coalesced with intense, hard-hitting music provides a perfect blend that defines the band's sound.
The debut album 'we'll be the moon' by the fixers is released on dolphin love and is limited to 250 copies. A kaleidoscopic, psychedelic adventure, it features everything from middle eastern melodies to japanese pop, new york dance grooves to beach boys harmonies. It is one of the most thrilling albums of the year from this one-of-a-kind band. After emerging at the tail end of 2010, the band have released a string of critically-acclaimed singles, whilst featuring in nme, the guardian, the times, the fly and more. radio support has come from huw stephens and zane lowe. A special band, fixers are a breath of fresh air, inventive with a creative spirit that means they never stand still, constantly moving forward, and pushing and pulling melody and rhythm in different directions.

Expected release on 04/06/2012 on Rough Trade.
Hailing from Hobart, Tasmania and described by some as ‘unconventional’ and ‘theatrical’, the indie pop four piece Enola Fall combines sharp musical proficiency diverse instrumentality with captivating and interactive live shows. Singer Joe Nuttall’s almost operatic voice runs the gauntlet from whisper to sea-lion roar. His powerful ‘stop you in your tracks’ falsetto is best unleashed on the song I Don’t Drive from their ‘Glorious Five Year Plan’ release.

The band has recently completed their biggest tour yet showcasing their new songs which have been likened to The Arcade Fire with a splash of Tom Waits.
Richmond, VA's The Trillions fuse sunny garage rock with old-school punk and experimental elements on their latest album, Tritones. They're now offering up two of the album's standout tracks, "The Experts" and "You Gotta Be Kidding Me" as free downloads, so you can be sure to get your fill. "The Experts" offers up cool harmonies, slamming guitar riffs, and a slight, surf-rock feel, while "You Gotta Be Kidding Me" takes on a strong DIY mentality and integrates experimental elements for a more indie-centric sound. Despite their differences, they work quite nicely when played back-to-back, so make sure to grab them while you can and head to their bandcamp to grab the record in full -- and on a 'pay what you want' rate.
The San Francisco band Grass Widow braids apparitional vocals over distorted post-punk riffs. At the center of its songs are the troika harmonies of Lillian Maring (drums), Hannah Lew (bass) and Raven Mahon (guitar), who contribute vocals equally, echoing the band’s process.
Fort Atlantic, the carefully-crafted brainchild of Jon Black, started out as no more than an experiment. After his small label closed in 2009, Black tested his own limits for two years as a musician and producer. He built a studio in his own home and began writing and recording music constantly, releasing three EPs under his own name and playing the bulk of the instruments on those releases. Once he had finished recording late last year, Black took the music to mixer and producer Tom Schick (Wilco, Ryan Adams, She & Him), which resulted in Fort Atlantic’s self-titled debut album.

Fort Atlantic won’t be available until May 29, but you can stream the entire album in its entirety below.
Greylag hit us with a first taste of their new album, The Only Way To Kill You, a few weeks ago with the free download of "Tiger". And while its pretty acoustics and spaced-out vibe ensured us of the inevitable good that was to come, we still didn't know the half of just how good this full album would be. These seven tracks alternate between wispy acoustics and dreamy melodies, grassroots jam sessions and sweet southern rock. It's folk music peppered with personality and passion, insight and flair, and it's sure to bury its way into your heart. The album dropped May 1st, so spin it in full and then grab it for your collection via iTunes.
To say there is a bit of confusion around the current state of Slum Village and the group's legacy would be a vast understatement. Of course, the passing of J. Dilla and Baatin affected things, but the departure of lyricist Elzhi hampered things almost beyond repair, or so it seemed at the time. Although the details still seem more sketch than most, the group (which includes Illa J and RJ) returns with a new mixtape that's supposed to be a precursor of things to come. Dirty Slums is an output that will please old fans for now, even if the sounds aren't exactly as vintage as the ones we've been accustomed to hearing.

You can stream and/or download the full mixtape below.
