My son had to do a collage work using different grains on the picture they had provided in school. Hence I got an opportunity to do some craft, especially this one after posting about something similar few days back. It does require lots of patience. But my usually impatient kiddo found this quite interesting and helped me in arranging the grains and sat with me doing it for atleast an hour. I think I should engage him in more of such activities in future. How about you?

An attempt on paper quilling

I was really fascinated by this art when I saw this on several blogs. I finally got the quilling tools during my trip to India last year. But never managed to do anything for sometime. Today, I had to do a collage for my son's school project and suddenly felt like doing some craft. So I went ahead with this one. This is my very first attempt. I have seen beautiful ones in many other blogs and hope to do like that with more practice. I had fun doing this one.

It was gifted to me by a friend who told me to that she has given this to me because she knew I will be trying this kind of craft at home. So , I will be certainly trying this. What about you? Pretty ethnic multipurpose baskets

I picked this pretty baskets from a local art and craft shop when I visited Indonesia last year.The plain traditional baskets or "tokris" as it is called in hindi is beautifully painted and then further decorated with small traditonal designs. They look so pretty!!Don't you agree??

I have used them during some religious rituals (pooja) to keep flowers.I have even used them instead of trays to give the vethalai pakku/haldi kumkum (A hindu custom of offering turmeric and Kum-Kum(Manjal-Kungumam) to married women to express goodwill and good fortune).

Below you can see a picture of the baskets when I had used them for some religious ritual.

This post is especially for those creative people who will now imbibe this idea and use it to create some beautiful baskets of their own in the comfort of their homes. Do share it with me if you do so. I will be happy to learn something new from you.

Wedding decoration show pieces with dry coconut and betel nuts

These beautiful articles or show pieces were exhibited on the dais during my sister's wedding recently. Its quite popular in the karnataka region.As it was appreciated by one and all, I decided to share this with my readers . These pieces are available in the market in Bangalore. You can also place an order in case of specific requirement. In our case, it was provided to us by the wedding contractor.

Visit to Peranakan museum - wonderful experience

Last weekend we visited the Peranakan musuem of Singapore where they are exhibiting a special section on Ramayan -revisited as they call it. It was a wonderful experience and we had a good time there. It was enjoyable for us as well as for the kids. There were volunteers who were telling stories of different episodes of Ramayan to kids and to the keen tourists interested in the ancient Indian mythology.

There was a Javanese dance performed by Indonesians in which they beautifully performed the Abduction of Sita.

Then there was a Kathakali performance which was so enchanting and was enjoyed by one and all. Kids had a great time as they also had lot of activities to do. In the picture below, my son learns to make a elephant using clay.

And then we moved towards sand painting...He puts the coloured sand on the readymade floral design...what enthusiasm!!!

Few paintings done in the past!!

So here I come up with some paintings which were done by me a couple of years ago. The first one is called emboss /ambose painting. The kit contained a cloth a black velvet cloth with the design and some colours. The cloth had to be ironed on the reverse side. The designs puffs up due to heat. This had to be painted with the given shimmering colours. The puffed portion creates a 3-D effect to the design.

The paintings below are called as nib painting. It is done with a special nib. The cloth with the design was readily available. The oil paint available in tubes is used for this purpose. It is a bit time consuming job, but I enjoyed a lot working on them.
I am so fond of these paintings that they had to take a position in my blog even though they were done years ago.

Greeting cards

I made these birthday cards for my hubby's birthday. I realized that its real fun making cards at home for your family and friends and show how much you care for them. You can use your imagination and express your feelings in your own words.
In this card, I have cut the felt cloth to make petals and pasted them on card paper to make flowers of different colours.

I got the idea for this card from here. My hubby was so happy to receive this card from our son.

Glitter painting - cute ..isn't it?

This is done from a ready made kit which contained some glitter glue of different colours and a design with a thick black outline. You have to just fill in the colours. Its that simple. This was completed in just 15- 20 minutes. I have put this up in the kid's room and it really looks so cute.

Decorating glass!! So easy and pretty!!

Its a long time I updated my craft blog. Things had been really busy for the past few months though I kept updating my food blog once in a while. But of course, readers have been asking about my recent craft work. Thanks a ton for visiting this blog and for your sweet comments.

In this post, I thought of presenting some work on glass. Glass literally means used bottles or bowls. I just used glitters and glass colours on empty coffee bottles and they look so pretty. I have placed them in my kitchen and they are indeed very attractive.

Glitter tubes were used on the first two bottles(from left) and glass paint was used on the third bottle.

Glass paint colour tubes were used on the vinyl sheets. I placed the vinyl sheets on the design and then marked an outline with black colour and then filled in the other colours. It was dried and then the vinyl sheet was pasted on the glass of a window.
Here too, I have done the same thing. Glass colours were used on the vinyl sheet. I pasted the vinyl sheet on the door, though sticking them on transparent glass would have made it more attractive.

Wall hanging with felt cloth

I made this wall hanging with felt cloth. I cut different coloured felt cloth into different shapes and then pasted them on a square felt cloth and then decorated it with sequins to give a brighter look.
Using a double sided cellotape , I pasted it on a cream colour door. So it gave a attractive look to the dull plain white door.

Temple of heaven- Woodcraft

This is made from pieces of wood from a woodcraft construction kit I bought from the popular book shop more than six months ago. Somehow I kept on postponing it. It seemed to be very easy. Of course, it is easy, but you have to have lot of patience, I think. I started with great enthusiasm and it was taking a good shape, but during the final construction, the pieces kept on falling. I lost my patience and kept it back and somehow I never brought myself to complete it.Finally, today my hubby said he will help me with this and we decided to complete it. It looks so elegant that it is certainly worth the patience and efforts you put into it.

I am also planning to colour it. Will update the post with the painted pictures when I do it and if I do it!!!

T-shirt painting.

As the painting fever goes on..I also tried my hand on painting a tshirt. Priyanka has been a great inspiration for me. Her work is very impressive. Though I have done work on fabric before, painting on t-shirt was something which I have never done or thought of. After asking few tips from Priyanka, I decided to work on this t shirt. I was quite satisfied with the results and plan to do somemore.
Please do give me your suggestions and tips to do better.

Magnets with felt cloth!!!

I cut the felt cloth in the desired shape and stitched the sides with embroidery thread using blanket stitch. Then I stuck a small magnet on the back of the cloth. Fridge magnets are ready.
Tell me how you like them. So I made magnets with felt cloth. If you have any other idea on making magnets do share it with me. I will make them and put it here. If you have made magnets , do send me the photos at creativesaga@gmail.com. I will place them here.

I made this flowers with chart (card) paper according to the pictoral instructions Vani has given in her blog. I made them slightly bigger by rolling them on a skewer. This flowers are being sent to Vani for her flower collection.

Paper roses in a vase!!!

I made this long time ago again. I used different coloured chart papers to make the roses. For the petal, I cut the chart paper into small circles and pasted all of them together at the base to give a rose like structure. Stem was again made by rolling the chart paper and pasting it to the base of petals. For the vase, I simply pasted chart paper on a used cylinderical can and decorating with chart paper cut in different decorative shapes.

So this beautiful piece is ready with scratch. All the things are easily available at home. You can really create beautiful things with what we think as waste.

I am pleased to start a new blog for my handwork , which I have been wanting to do for a long time. Inspired my other bloggers(especially my foodie blogger friends in Singapore) , I thought it was high time to start my own space to display my creations. Though the pace of my other extra activities (Art and craft)has reduced than what I used to do before , I try to do something whenever I find time.
First I will be displaying my crochet work and other handicraft which was done by me a couple of years ago. Then will post by recent activities. I hope I get to learn more this way and present it to you all.
I look forward to your views and suggestions. Do share your creations and ideas too which will be useful to me and people who visit the blog. Thanks a lot.
