Ini ada berita tentang berita virus terbaru yg berbahaya bagi para pemilik handphone. Virus ini bukan menyerang komputer, tetapi handphone. Cara kerjanya sama dgn virus komputer. Virus ini berasal dari eropa dan sdh mulai menyerang Amerika dan Asia (berita juni - infomedia edisi Juli 2001), sekarang sdh masuk ke Indonesia.

Cara kerjanya :

Handphone anda akan berdering dan menampakkan nama pd layar, antara lain : XXX, YYY, OOO, 123
Bila anda menerima kode pd layar handphone seperti demikian, jangan diangkat/diterima, biarkan saja sampai deringnya mati sendiri.
Setelah "missed Call" periksalah dalam daftaf call-register hp anda, anda akan mendapatkan huruf XXX, YYY, OOO, 123. Tampa nama dan tanpa identitas lainnya.
Kembali ke menu utama layar HP anda.
Cobalah kembali ke call-register/missed call anda.
Nomor aneh tersebut sudah hilang.....aneh bukan..!!

Jika anda menerima hal yg sedemikian, berarti seseorang sedang berusaha mengirimkan virus ke dalam HP anda.

Motif :

biasanya si pelaku memilih korbannya secara acak, bisa orang dalam negeri sendiri atau bisa juga dari luar negeri. Mereka biasanya mendapatkan nomor HP anda , bila anda pernah memasukkan nomor HP via internet utk melakukan suatu registrasi e-mail atau konfirmasi pembayaran. setelah si pelaku berhasil memasukkan virus ke dalam HP anda, virus akan mengirimkan data identitas, No SIMCARD dan PIN anda (bila anda pelanggan GSM pascabayar) dan mengirimkan nomor PIN dan No SIMCARD anda (bila anda pelanggan GSM prabayar). dari data yg ia dapat, orang tersebut bisa menggunakan pulsa anda dari jarak jauh dan memakai identitas anda utk hal-hal yg buruk. Sehingga anda akan kehabisan pulsa secara mendadak atau perlahan (karena pulsa anda dipakai secara bersamaan dgn si pelaku).

Cara kerja virus :

Virus yg berhasil masuk, akan segera menyerang simcard anda dan mengirimkan informasi yg berguna bagi si pelaku.
Virus akan segera menguras pulsa anda.
Virus akan berpindah ke software dalam HP anda
Virus akan mengendap dan terus bercokol dalam Software HP anda, jadi jika anda akan berfikir utk mengganti SIMCARD,maka dgn segera virus akan menyerang SIMCARD baru anda.
Setelah waktu tertentu Virus akan menjebol software anda, dan.........Tamatlah riwayat HP anda, karena tidak akan bisa dipergunakan dan diservis lagi.
Gawatnya, bila HP anda tsb dihubungkan pada komputer/modem, maka virus tsb akan menyerang komputer anda.

Daerah yg sudah mewabah : Surabaya dan Bandung

Mungkin satu-satunya accecories yg bisa anda gunakan hanyalah Casing dan Bateray. Mudah-mudahan informasi ini berguna bagi mereka yg memiliki HP dan bagi mereka yg suka bermain SMS.

BlackBerry 9630 Niagara to Arrive from Verizon Wireless

The Niagara is the future BlackBerry 9630 which should arrive from Verizon Wireless in the future. It will have support for CDMA 1x, EV-DO Rev. A, GSM, GPRS, EDGE and UMTS. Unfortunately there’s no WiFi support in this Niagara. The phone might arrive in May or June but we definitely need confirmation. And we could use some pricing details too. Considering that the Pre and possibly the third-generation iPhone are also coming out around the same period, which one would you choose?

Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot 8.1 Megapixel Camera Phone

We saw the Sony Ericsson C905 leak out a few months ago. The phone was ultimately released and is one of the way better Cyber-shot camera phones out there. Boasting an 8.1 megapixel camera, the C905 is equipped with a 2.4 inch screen that can be used in both portrait and landscape modes thanks to the built in accelerometer. Measuring 104mm x 49mm x 18mm, the phone weighs in at an arguably hefty 136 grams (4.8 oz), and is compatible with GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and UMTS 2100/HSDPA networks.

Packaging

Our review unit, provided by the folks over at PureMobile, came with the following items in the package:

USB adapter for the memory stick

The phone comes with a slide-out keypad with standard T9 input that is common on most other Sony Ericsson phones. The phone features a crisp 262k color display, which doubles up as your camera preview window.

The Camera

Interestingly, the photos for this review were taken from another 8 megapixel camera (a Canon PowerShot SD1100 one). While images from the Canon are marginally better than the ones from the C905, the image quality on the C905 is an order of magnitude better than just about all the other camera phones out in the market. The face detection feature lets you easily focus on the subject, while photo fix lets you adjust contrast and light balance after you’ve shot the picture.

Now, I am a large believer that digital photos above 5 megapixels in resolution are just a waste of space, so I lowered the resolution of images on the C905 to 5MP (it’s easy to set the resolution from the phone menu when you are operating in camera mode). Even with this modification, the photos were really pretty good. Check out the sample photos to see what I mean.

Sometimes, the camera shutter is off by a second when you shoot the photo - leading to blurry images, which you can avoid by turning on the image stabilizer. For low light conditions, there’s a xenon flash. While I did not try it, the camera also supports video blogging, letting you upload videos online in seconds (based on your cell phone network - better if you’re on WiFi). You can also geo-tag your photos.

The Phone

When the slider is closed, you can do a few things, including look up the recent call list (called, received and missed calls), from where you can call any of those numbers. You do this the usual way - by pressing the Call Answer key.

The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes with a shortcut button that lets you see new phone events (text messages, call alerts), switch between multiple running applications (yes - there is multitasking support), a list of quick shortcuts for the most commonly used applications, WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity and so on, and finally for web access. I realized that I spent quite a bit of my time with the shortcut key - and it is useful without having to slide out the keypad each time.

That said, when you want to send text messages or access other installed tools and applications, you will have to slide out the keypad.

Applications

One of the more important applications on any phone these days is the web browser. The Sony Ericsson C905 comes with the Access NetFront browser (one of my former favorites). On the earlier Nokia Series 60 phones, this was just about the best browser out there - until Opera came out and became the leading browser on phones. Opera is, as usual, available as a free download for the C905 - and I recommend downloading this if you are serious about browsing a lot on your phone.

The other applications are nothing to write home about: you have your default calendar, clock, notepad and task applications as well as a handy integrated FM radio receiver.

Messaging

For regular text messaging, there’s the default SMS application. Now, one of the features I liked on this is that it remembers the last few numbers/contacts that you sent the message to, so if you want to send the message to them again it is very convenient. The C905 supports POP and IMAP email accounts as well, but for some reason I could never get it to work with my Gmail account.

Synchronization

Sony Ericsson provides its PC Suite software for syncing data between your phone and computer. The software is easy to use, but I wouldn’t call it dead easy - that’s something that can be improved. The Media Manager, on the other hand, is much easier - drag and drop stuff that the average 6 year old can handle.

Conclusion

The Sony Ericsson C905 is a worthwhile investment. It sucks that the phone is not available subsidized here in the US, but you can buy it unlocked (see below for details). The phone has a wonderful scratch-resistant screen, impressive 8 megapixel camera and comes equipped with a 2GB memory stick.

Samsung S8300 Pictures and Specs Leaked!

The U900 Soul has been around since the beginning of the year so it’s hardly what we would call out-of-date, however Samsung has its replacement waiting in the wings and we’ve been treated to a sneak peak! The slider S8300 doesn’t have a super-cool name just yet, but it does have some interesting specs:

Features of the Samsung S8300:

* An 8 megapixel camera.
* A 2.8″ AMOLED touchscreen.
* It will be 3G with HSDPA support.
* Built-in GPS.

Unusually for this level of spec the S8300 will not be a smartphone, but it will run Samsung’s excellent TouchWiz system, and there is no mention of Wi-Fi on the spec list, however the rest is pretty special! The AMOLED screen is very interesting, as it has the benefits of a regular OLED panel (better contrast and no backlight, thus reducing power consumption) plus a thin film transistor allowing even better resolution, so the S8300 should look very special indeed.

The 8 megpixel camera looks set to be almost standard across upper range phones in 2009 and the S8300’s will feature a dual LED flash and autofocus. The phone will also boast the latest Bluetooth 2.1 version, an FM RDS radio and will measure just 12.8mm thick, making it a very pocket-friendly despite the big screen.

We don’t have any official statement from Samsung as yet, but the word is we’ll see the S8300 in stores sometime around March; so it’s not long to go!

Cellular modem sales set to boom

Cellular modem sales could exceed $22 billion by 2013, according to a new report from ABI Research.

The firm noted Sprint Nextel Corp. recently lowered its mobile broadband prices for using cellphones as modems but left the price of using PC Cards and USB modems unchanged. But cellular modem sales will weather that threat, the firm said.

“Customers want mobile broadband experiences like those provided by their PCs, meaning they want the fastest devices,” said principal analyst Dan Shey. “Phones with at least 3G radios threaten cellular modem sales; however shipments of these modems will not exceed 30% of cellular handset shipments by 2011.

”The firm said industrialized countries will see deeper penetration of mobile broadband devices, but business customers will who prefer convenience could opt for PC Cards and USB modems in greater numbers.

Also, the growing penetration of embedded cellular connectivity on laptops and notebooks will reduce the need for external devices.

Mobile WiMAX to Encounter Significant Hurdles on its Way to Mediocrity

Although proponents of mobile WiMAX are positioning it as the best choice for a next generation network technology, IMS Research believes that it will struggle to gain traction with operators, and will ultimately remain a niche mobile technology.

Many in the WiMAX community however are quick to emphasize the time-to-market advantage that 802.16e has over LTE. While it is true that mobile WiMAX networks already have subscribers logging on to 802.16e networks around the world, and LTE networks are still at least three years away from commercial deployment, this time-to-market advantage will not tip the scales in favour of mobile WiMAX. Network operators are just now beginning to see a return on their 3G investments as increasing numbers of consumers take advantage of mobile data plans.

The fact that LTE won’t be ready for another two to three years may actually turn out to be an advantage for LTE as the timeframe will allow mobile operators to get as much life as possible out of their existing 3G networks. Incremental upgrades to enhanced 3G technologies such as HSPA+ and EV-DO Rev B will allow for almost the same data rates as the initial LTE deployments. This will effectively set the stage for large scale LTE commercial rollouts in 3-4 years.

While it is certain that both standards will achieve some level of success, the road to mass adoption for mobile WiMAX will certainly be more challenging than that of LTE. This is further evidenced by the fact that the 3GPP has already tabbed LTE as the 4G standard for the GSM evolution path and the fact that the majority of cellular networks around the world are GSM does not bode well for mobile WiMAX supporters. This lack of wide-spread adoption will leave little incentive for mobile device manufacturers to develop products that support mobile WiMAX applications.

According to IMS Research Analyst Bob Perez, “The truth is that WiMAX is a very robust technology that has been quite successful in many parts of the world as a fixed broadband solution and will continue to do so, especially in underserved markets.” He continued by saying that, “although mobile WiMAX networks are already going live thanks to Sprint/Clearwire and Korea Telecom the prospect of additional mobile WiMAX networks from Tier 1 operators are looking pretty grim.”

The market for both fixed and mobile WiMAX is examined in detail in the new IMS Research report, “The Worldwide Market for WiMAX & Competing Products – 2008 Edition”. In addition, the upcoming report from IMS Research, “Mobile Broadband: 4G Network Evolution” will contain a comprehensive analysis of both the mobile WiMAX and LTE markets.

K-Touch announced 7 and 8 megapixel cameras for phones, capable of 3X optical zoom.

One of the most important features of a cell phone for many users is the camera in it, or better said the camera's quality. All manufacturers are trying to cram more and more advanced cameras in the smaller and slimmer phones, which doesn't always turn out to be a success. K-Touch, as opposed to most manufacturers, tries to solve the problem from a completely different point of view, as in their case the camera is the important element, not the phone. Of course the idea is not new, as Samsung has also announced similar devices. K-Touch C800 and C280 come with an 8 megapixel CCD camera, with 3X optical zoom, while C700 has a 7 megapixel CCD camera inside, which is also capable of 3X optical zoom. All three models support ISO sensitivities up to ISO1600, come with Xenon flash and a huge, 2.8" touchscreen. The handsets are made for China, and officially they will not be available in the region.

Google launches the Android open source operating system on the G1 handset with T-mobile

So the big news this month is Google launches the Android open source operating system on the G1 handset with T-mobile. Is this a hardware revolution, a software paradigm shift, an assault on the iphone or just news-lite?

Well, an open-source operating system (O-SOS?) is certainly unusual Android is based on Linux, and in theory any third-party can write software for applications. However, those of us who live in the real world are well aware that backwards compatibility theory and practice are often very different. But, nay-saying Luddites back in your corner, let’s assume that all third party programmers code like angels and compatibility is there. Comparing the hardware and functionality of the G1 and the iphone the handsets are roughly comparable, sure the iphone has a slightly larger screen though the resolution is the same. The iphone comes with embedded memory (8 or 16GB) whereas the G1 comes with a 2GB micro SD expandable to 8GB. Both have a qwerty keypad though iphone is purely touch screen where G1 is both. Cameras come with both but iphone has 2 megapixels to G1’s 3.1. We are left with the feeling that yes the tech is comparable but that is, in essence, missing the point.

Samsung Electronics will release its first Google phone in the second quarter of the next year in North America.

The launch of Google phone by Samsung is regarded as a signal of its plan for increasing the shares in the smart phone market by releasing handsets in various operating systems.

Also, as Samsung joins the Android group led by Google, the competition among the mobile platforms like Nokia’s Symbian, MS Windows Mobile, LiMo and Apple’s Mac OS X will become fierce.

On December 18, industry insiders said that Samsung Electronics is currently in the development process of its new Google phone to release out in the second quarter of the next year via Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA in North America.

To this end, it has added 30 experts in Linux and Java to the task force team of its information and communications division. Therefore, the team has up to 80 developers.
