West beats East, 143-138

Kevin Garnett saluted the fans and tapped his heart.

The Boston Celtics forward doled out a few fist-bumps to teammates and foes. Then he took to the court, played six scoreless minutes, and took a seat. His 15th All-Star Game appearance amounted to a harmless cameo, just as he and coach Doc Rivers had hoped.

“Six minutes, yep, right where I wanted it to be,” Garnett said.

He missed his only two shots. He grabbed three rebounds. He had an assist. When the game quickly turned into a dunk contest, he deferred to the younger players, letting them run and gun.

When his time was up Sunday night, Garnett left the 62d All-Star Game at Toyota Center and walked toward the bench, put on a warm-up shirt and pants, and wrapped a towel around his neck.

He watched as his Eastern Conference team fell to their counterparts from the West, 143-138. He watched as Clippers guard Chris Paul earned MVP honors with 20 points and 15 assists, and as Oklahoma City swingman Kevin Durant scored 30, becoming the first player to score at least 30 in three straight All-Star Games.

“They respected each other, nobody got hurt, the fans had a great time,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who coached the West team. “That’s what it’s all about.”

As usual, it was only competitive near the end.

Paul hit two late 3-pointers and Lakers guard Kobe Bryant had two key blocks on Heat star LeBron James to help seal the West’s win.

In previous versions of this affair, Garnett was heavily used. In 2003, for instance, he played 41 minutes and scored 37 points. But the 36-year-old wasn’t going to get that much run a decade later, nothing near it.

Garnett could’ve used the rest of an entire weekend, but he came here, waded through promotional appearances, and then, finally, the game itself.

He played, but more as a figurehead than competitor. He all but sidestepped a contest that annually lacks hustle and defense, his calling cards. The Celtics begin their second half with nine of their first 11 games on the road, starting Tuesday in Denver, and Garnett knew it was it was more important for him to save his legs.

“Everything was cool, but in the back of my mind, I’m thinking we’ve got Denver Tuesday, Lakers Wednesday,” Garnett said. “[I’m] just thinking about the schedule and what it’s about to be this second half.”

Did he feel rested after this weekend?

“Absolutely not. Absolutely not,” he said. “I would love to say that, but absolutely not.”

But the weekend was also a good deal of fun for him.

“To be honest, what was on my mind was getting the proper rest and trying to enjoy myself, trying to make sure everybody that was with me enjoyed [themselves],” he said.

His young daughter Capri had never attended All-Star festivities before and was hounding her father about changing that. So, he brought her this weekend.

“For my kid to see that was cool,” Garnett said. “It was cool for me.”

Garnett started his 11th All-Star Game. He started alongside Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and James, clearly making him the East’s elder statesman.

In all his All-Star Game appearances — he’s tied for the second most in NBA history — Garnett attempted his fewest shots and played his fewest minutes Sunday.

Garnett said he told Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who was coaching the East, “It’s a young guy’s game, play me a couple minutes and then I was cool.”

During the game, Garnett sat leaning forward, his elbows on his knees, his chin resting in his hands. He cheered his teammates, some of whom are fierce rivals.

“We have the same jersey on,” Garnett said. “When you have opposing jerseys on, then that’s obvious, but right now, that’s what this weekend is. You come in, give your time, enjoy each other. There’s not too many times you’re going to be interacting like this throughout the year. It’s a time to let your hair down and relax.”

Now comes a trip to the Rocky Mountains. The Celtics practice Tuesday in Denver, gathering after a break that didn’t seem nearly long enough for them to recuperate.

Is Garnett looking forward to it?

“It’s good to see everybody; you look forward to that,” Garnett said. “Practice is work, but it’s good. You’re getting better.”

The Celtics, who are 28-24 and in seventh place in the East, hope to do the same.

Garnett had said last week that this All-Star appearance would “definitely” be his last. He clarified that comment by saying he just wasn’t sure if he’d be selected as an All-Star next year.

If it was his final time playing in a game where he’s practically a fixture, Garnett signed off with his eyes on the rest of the season, his 18th in the NBA.

Mindy McCready dead at 37

Sad news broke on Feb. 17 with the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office stating Mindy McCready's suicide apparently took place Sunday. This is a tragic end to what has been, for several years, a tragic and painful life for the troubled country star.

Mindy McCready's suicide comes barely a month after the apparent suicide of her partner, David Wilson. McCready is said to have shot herself in the head, and also shot her dog. Her two sons had been removed from her care on Feb. 6 when she was committed to a treatment facility for evaluation. She was released from the facility two days later.

McCready had tried to kill herself at least twice before, in 2005 and 2008. Sadly she had been struggling with addiction and mental health issues for a number of years, and it appears the death of Wilson became more than she could work through.

Mindy McCready's suicide was discovered Sunday afternoon after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. She was found on the front porch of her residence. Fans mourn this sad ending not only for McCready, 37, but also for her two sons and the rest of her family.

Harrison Ford signs on to play Han Solo

The original "Star Wars" trilogy would have lost a lot of its luster if it didn't have Harrison Ford running around playing the roguish bad boy/good guy Han Solo. If a scoop from movie and pop culture site Latino Review is true, Ford will soon get another shot at running around the galaxy.

Latino Review, citing "legitimate sources," unveiled an exclusive scoop saying that Ford's signing for "Star Wars: Episode VII" is a done deal. This could be dismissed as just another rumor, but Latino Review has a pretty decent track record for breaking this sort of entertainment news.

Ford has already shown a willingness to revisit roles that made him famous as a younger actor. The most recent Indiana Jones film came out in 2008. He's taken a longer break from "Star Wars," but has already expressed interest in revisiting the role.

Ford is now 70, so we can probably assume the next move won't pick up immediately after "Episode VI" left off. I can't see Han Solo sitting around quietly playing space bingo in a retirement home.

This leaves us waiting for official confirmation or denial of Ford's role in the new movie. If it's true, it could be a small cameo or a significant role. It's enough to leave many "Star Wars" fans with sweet dreams considering the possibilities. If Ford signs on, what's to stop Carrie Fisher or Mark Hamill from joining up, too?

As a fan of the first trilogy, I have to confess that the thought of an original cast reunion gets me pretty excited. I'm rooting for the Ford rumor to be real.

IKEA is giving a free crib!!

IKEA is giving a free crib to babies born in the next nine months. In other words, the company is hoping you had a very productive and satisfying Valentine’s Day.

If you’re an Australian citizen and your upcoming bundle of joy was conceived on Valentine’s Day 2013, then you stand to receive a free IKEA baby crib for free. According to the Examiner, any baby born on November 14 will receive a coupon for a crib valued at around $99.

Of course, conceiving your child on or around Valentine’s Day doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be guaranteed a November 14 due date. In order to redeem the coupon, your child must be born on date specified by IKEA. Unfortunately, no early or later vouchers will be accepted by the company.

The Wall Street Journal explains that all parents need to acquire their new Sniglar cot is the clipped coupon and a certificate which authenticates the child’s existence. Once all of the requirements have been met, the free IKEA baby crib is ready to be assembled.

The advertisement reads:

“To celebrate Valentine’s Day, IKEA is offering parents-to-be a free cot if your baby is born on November 14, 2013. Limit one cot per baby. Proof of birth must be provided. Voucher must be presented to redeem offer. Delivery not included.”

Those who discover they are having several kids in nine months may want to start setting aside a few extra coupons right now. Since IKEA only offers one crib per child, additional vouchers will be necessary for those parents who are expecting twins, triples, and so forth.

Right now, it would seem that IKEA is only offering the “free crib to babies born in nine months” deal to folks living in Australia. Although it’s too late for other markets to get in on the offer, the company could expand into other territories next year.

Man Slaps Crying Baby on Plane

A man slaps a crying baby on an Atlanta-bound flight while yelling a racist epithet at the infant boy, and for his effort gets tossed in handcuffs and charged with assault.

The incident took place on a Delta Air flight from Minneapolis on February 8. The baby was crying as the flight was nearing its landing wen Joe Rickey Hundley of Idaho grew enraged at his crying, The Associated Press reported.

The boy’s mother, 33-year-old Jessica Bennett of Minneapolis, said Hundley was sitting next to her and then slapped the crying boy in the face, giving him a scratch under his right eye.

As he slapped the crying baby, Hundley told Bennett to “shut that (n-word) baby up,” a police report said. Several passengers then came to the mother’s aid.

The 60-year old man was then arrested for slapping the baby and charged with simple assault. He also had a 2007 incident in which he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and public intoxication.

His lawyer urged people not to rush to judgment.

“We think that it is important to let the case develop, and we’ll see how it all comes out,” Hundley’s attorney Marcia Shein said Friday.

Hundley’s child is adopted, and they were on the way to Atlanta for a funeral, the Daily Mail reported.

After the man slaps the crying baby, police also found that he was intoxicated. And his attempt to quiet the baby didn’t quite work, either — the police report noted that the baby cried louder after being slapped.

Meteorite explodes over Russia, more than 1,000 injured

A meteorite streaked across the sky and exploded over central Russia on Friday, raining fireballs over a vast area and causing a shock wave that smashed windows, damaged buildings and injured 1,200 people.

People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt the shock wave, according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 1,500 km (950 miles) east of Moscow.

The fireball, travelling at a speed of 30 km (19 miles) per second according to Russian space agency Roscosmos, had blazed across the horizon, leaving a long white trail that could be seen as far as 200 km (125 miles) away.

Car alarms went off, thousands of windows shattered and mobile phone networks were disrupted. The Interior Ministry said the meteorite explosion, a very rare spectacle, also unleashed a sonic boom.

"I was driving to work, it was quite dark, but it suddenly became as bright as if it were day," said Viktor Prokofiev, 36, a resident of Yekaterinburg in the Urals Mountains.

"I felt like I was blinded by headlights."

The meteorite, which weighed about 10 metric tons and may have been made of iron, entered Earth's atmosphere and broke apart 30-50 km (19-31 miles) above ground, according to Russia's Academy of Sciences.

The energy released when it entered the Earth's atmosphere was equivalent to a few kilotonnes, the academy said, the power of a small atomic weapon exploding.

AKB48 pop star shaves head after breaking band rules

A Japanese pop star has shaved her head and offered a filmed apology after breaking her management firm's rules by spending a night with her boyfriend.

A sobbing Minami Minegishi apologised to her fans and said she did not want to leave the band AKB48, in the video seen by millions on YouTube.

The production company behind AKB48 said Minegishi, 20, had failed to abide by its cardinal rule - no dating.

But fans have defended her, saying she is entitled to a normal life.

Head shaving is a traditional form of showing contrition in Japan.

'Disgusting'

Minegishi's apology came hours after a tabloid newspaper published photographs of her leaving the apartment of her boyfriend, Alan Shirahama, a dancer in a boy band.

Minami Minegishi is one of the original members of the hugely popular girl band, AKB48 In the video posted on AKB48's official website, she said she had made the decision to shave off her long hair to show contrition for her "thoughtless and immature" actions.

"I don't believe just doing this means I can be forgiven for what I did, but the first thing I thought was that I don't want to quit AKB48," she said.

At times sobbing and bowing her head during the nearly four-minute-long video, she also said: "If it is possible, I wish from the bottom of my heart to stay in the band. Everything I did is entirely my fault. I am so sorry."

Former first dog Barney Bush passed away

The former first dog has died. On Feb. 1, The Houston Chronicle reported that George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, are mourning the loss of their family pet, Barney. The beloved Scottish Terrier was suffering from lymphoma and lost his battle. He was 12-years-old.

"Barney greeted Queens, Heads of State, and Prime Ministers. He was always polite and never jumped in their laps. Barney was by my side during our eight years in the White House. He never discussed politics and was always a faithful friend. Laura and I will miss our pal," former President George W. Bush said in a statement.

The former first dog that died will be sorely missed by his family. As Bush states, he was very loved and it sounds like he had a good life during his healthy years. It is never easy to lose a pet and George couldn't resist sharing some of his fondest memories about Barney.

"Barney and I enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to accompany me when I fished for bass at the ranch. He was a fierce armadillo hunter. At Camp David, his favorite activity was chasing golf balls on the chipping green. Barney guarded the South Lawn entrance of the White House as if he were a Secret Service agent. He wandered the halls of the West Wing looking for treats from his many friends. He starred in Barney Cam and gave the American people Christmas tours of the White House," Bush said.

The former first dog can't be replaced but since he died, many wonder if George and Laura will get another pup to help fill the void.

Pot in Kmart Store

A shipment of pot at a Kmart store in Seattle arrived Monday and has management and police stumped. Reportedly, 10-pounds of marijuana that began in Los Angeles and was meant for Philadelphia somehow made its way to the retailer instead.

According to a Jan. 31 report from Seattle Weekly, workers at the Aurora store received the package around the noon hour and were shocked when they discovered its contents.

Pot, not the garden variety at a Kmart store, was wrapped in garbage bags, shipping peanuts and -- get this -- Korean newspaper, according to a SFD spokesperson.

Officers say the mystery weed, while addressed to the store, located at 132nd and Aurora Avenue N in Seattle, was meant for an undisclosed location in Philly. However, officials are not letting on as to how they learned about this piece of the ganja puzzle.

Nonetheless, it brings up a lot of questions about the safety of packages delivered by different conveyances. Are criminals that brazen enough to use the U.S. mail or commercial delivery to ship and service their clientele?

Perhaps, the folks on the West Coast misheard the news and believe the sale of marijuana is legal in all states.

Heck, perhaps the bud was for medicinal purposes or scientific research. Okay; that was a stretch, right?

No matter; if pot in a Kmart store gets all the way to the location undetected, a valid question is: who's minding the shop?

Beyonce's Miscarriage: 'The Saddest Thing' She's Ever Been Through

Beyonce lives a charmed life as a superstar singer, actress and mother of the most beloved baby in Hollywood -- but even Beyonce isn't immune to tragedy.

In her new HBO documentary, "Life Is But a Dream," the 31-year-old singer opens about about the miscarriage she suffered before she became pregnant with Blue Ivy.

Although Jay-Z did reference their tragic loss in the song "Glory" when he rapped, "Last time the miscarriage was so tragic/We was afraid you'd disappear/But nah baby you magic," Beyonce has never spoken about it until now.

"About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life," the singer revealed in one scene. According to Us Weekly, Beyonce explains that she and Jay-Z were ecstatic about the pregnancy, and had already picked out names.

"I envisioned what my child would look like ... I was feeling very maternal," she said in the documentary. But in the middle of their excitement something went wrong and the singer learned during a check-up that there was no heartbeat.

The singer dealt with the crushing blow, the only way she could -- through her music.
"I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life ... And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through," she explained.

‘Gay’ dog saved from euthanization

A male American bulldog was saved from euthanization on Thursday after the dog’s original owner turned him over to animal control because he said he was gay.

The owner apparently took the dog to Jackson Rabies Control Animal Shelter in Tennessee after he saw him mounting another dog, according to this post on Facebook. (Holy Crap!)

A Facebook user posted a photo of the dog on Facebook on Wednesday and it received over 4,200 shares in less than 24 hours.

“This guy was signed over to RC, not bc he’s mean or bc he tears things up, but because… His owner says he’s gay! He hunched another male dog so his owner threw him away bc he refuses to have a “gay” dog! Even if that weren’t the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard, its still discrimination! Don’t let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!”

It was a normal, not-so-boring Saturday night when husband started watching funny videos from a local show on YouTube. And after a few hours on YouTube we ended up watching these hilarious videos of Japanese pranks. We just could't stop laughing, yeah we hysterically laughed our asses off! These videos are quite old but will definitely crack you up! If you need a dose of laughter, you've stumbled at the right place. :) Enjoy!

A few minutes ago, I opened my Adsense account and saw that Google has something for me. A warning. (great, just great) It's not something really serious though I need to take action immediately. That is to delete spam comments. This is because I automatically approve comments before. So to fix it, I went through all approved comments and I suddenly missed blogging. I miss blogging something that stirs my readers minds and emotions. And I kinda miss my blog friends. It's just that I wasn't able to post more fun stuffs in this blog, since I have my separate personal blog now (where I also doesn't post regularly to). I just missed this, yeah this, how I spontaneously pour anything. (: Oh well, that's just how it really is. hehehe Anyway, I just finished cleaning all spam comments and that should fix it. (:

McDonald's celebrates 30 years in PH

I've always been a fan of McDonald's. When I was in college me and my friends enjoyed eating on McDonald's compared with Jollibee (which is also a popular fast food here in the Philippines) When I say college days, that would be about 4-5 yrs. ago. :) Also, McDonald's is my hubby's favorite take-out food. LOL We seldom eat at McDonald's now adays but still we don't miss going their drive through to buy our favorite chicken nuggets, french fries and mcflurry!

And now McDonald's celebrates 30 Years of Magic in the Philippines! Along with this special celebration they had a 4-store (whoah!) re-opening today, September 30.

McDonald's Makati Cinema Square, Greenhills, North Avenue, and Quezon Avenue will once again open its doors to customers, now bearing new modern designs setting the tone for the next 30, 60, 90 years of McDonald's in the country. Each of the 4 McDonald's anniversary stores will give eager customers more reasons to say "love ko 'to" with stylish furniture, colorful interiors, and dynamic graphics that perfectly suit the tastes and style of the modern Pinoy.

Pat Robertson infuriates Christian faithful with Alzheimer's comments

Pat Robertson has made many controversial statements over the years, such as suggesting that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were God's punishment for the U.S. tolerating abortion and homosexuality. His critics are usually those on the politically opposite spectrum of the conservative Christian leader, or outside the Christian faith.

But the television evangelist's most recent statements -- condoning divorce when a spouse has Alzheimer's -- appears to have offended many Christians who feel it violates the sanctity of marriage and that most cherished of marriage vows: Til death do us part.

The controversy stems from comments Robertson made recently on the "700 Club" program on Christian Broadcast Network. His comments came in response to a caller who said that a friend had begun dating other women while his wife lies seriously ill with Alzheimer's, and justifies it by saying that "his wife, as he knows her, is gone."

Robertson said he agrees with the man: "What he says basically is correct. I know it sounds cruel, but if he's going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her."

His co-host pressed Robertson about whether that violates the marriage vows. Robertson responded that Alzheimer's "is a kind of death" and added, "I certainly wouldn't put a guilt trip on you" for choosing divorce in such a scenario.

The comments on Christianity Today's news blog were nearly universal in their criticism and disappointment:

"I am horrified by Robertson's response!" said one.

Underwater Sculptures

I've always admired artists, I admire how they could think of simple things that could definitely take our breathers away. Artist Jason de Caires Taylor creates life-size cement sculptures of people and descend them into the waters of South America. As time passes the sculptures become part of the underwater landscape and slowly become artificial reefs ripe with marine life. The process of experiencing artwork out of a traditional gallery and underwater is described with intimately vivid detail on his site. Wow.

I think this is awesome. Of course, it would probably freak me out if I were to dive down into the ocean without knowing what was down there. I think this is unbelievable. Kudos.This is so beautiful. I don’t know about anybody else, but if I was diving/swiming/boating in the ocean and saw one of those I would probably have a heart attack.

They look creepy right? But truly an amazing art! :)

The Workout Kid

C.J. Senter may or may not be the next Tony Horton or the next Barry Sanders, but he is definitely the next 10-year-old to watch.

Granted, when most people hear "child prodigy," they rightfully raise an eyebrow and wonder who is pulling the strings. Add a workout DVD by a fourth-grader with sculpted muscles to the mix and "cute" can turn to "concerning." But it turns out the story behind "C.J. The Workout Kid" is a lot more inspiring than insidious.

C.J. started working out five years ago when his football coach told him and his teammates to go home over a weekend and get some exercise. He did some push-ups and sit-ups and loved it. Not too long after, he saw a P90X infomercial and loved that too. He's been working out ever since. C.J. does his own routines three times a week, after school and homework, and he's given new names to some old and boring moves, like the burpee, which involves a squat, push-up, and jump. C.J. calls that one the "shredder." He even teaches a class of (mostly older) kids at the gym near where he lives in Locust Grove, Ga.

Ducks Blown by the Wind

Saw this video featured in our local news, and it's just hilarious. This reminds me of a particular line of a song that goes "United we stand, divided we fall". This is how a mother duck and her ducklings survive a strong wind, that no matter how many times they'd fall they'd still stand up together. Have fun watching! :)

My sister is a nurse and she wears the same old nurse scrub uniform to work everyday. Same old style and same old color. Eventually she got tired with her uniform and went searching for different styles of nursing scrub top. She searched several medical uniform stores but never found what she's looking for. But when she searched online, she stumbled upon Blue Sky Scrubs and found nurse scrubs uniforms in different colors, styles and brands.

She bought several pairs from Blue Sky Scrubs TM, and was very happy when she got her scrubs. I love watching movies; it’s my one way of taking stress away from a bad day. I would spend countless hours over the internet searching for HD movies, you know it is better when it’s HD and if it’s Blu Ray. Since I don’t have a blu-ray player, I’m thankful for Mr. Blu Ray Ripper inventor! It's a universal truth that dogs are man's bestfriend and we all accept that fact. Their loyalty has been proven and tested million times in different situations. And just recently a dog is is caught on tape, on the video you can see that he's shivering and disoriented, and is remaining loyally by the side of his fellow canine amid the devastation of the Japanese tsunami.

UPDATE: CNN and the UK Telegraph have both reported that the dogs have been rescued since the footage aired, and are both receiving veterinary care; the more seriously wounded dog is at a clinic in the city of Mito, while the protective spaniel-type dog is receiving care at a shelter in the same town.

Katia Zatuliveter a Russian Spy

Katia Zatuliveter, who is working for Mike Hancock, a Liberal Democrat member of the Commons defense select committee, is to be excluded after MI5 decided the 25-year-old was secretly working for the Russian intelligence service as a "sleeper".

MI5 believes she was purposely aiming Mr Hancock, 64, who has substantial Russian interests and a reputation as a womaniser.

Her arrest is considered to be the first time since the end of the Cold War that a person working in parliament has been charged of spying for the Russians.

Ms Zatuliveter, who was vetted before taking up her post, was arrested by police and Border Agency officials last week and is being held at a secure facility awaiting deportation to Russia. It is believed she was working for the SVR, Russia's foreign intelligence service.

A source said: "Her presence here is not considered to be conducive to national security. There was unhappiness about what she could have access to. The intention is to show her the door."

Questions on defence have been issued to government departments from Mr Hancock's office in recent weeks, including requests for an inventory of Britain's nuclear weapons arsenal, details of nuclear material outside international safeguards and the locations of all submarine bases worldwide. Ministers declined to answer some of the questions.

Mr Hancock said last night that Ms Zatuliveter was not a spy and would be appealing against the deportation order. He said she had done nothing wrong and was sure she would be vindicated.
