Enjoy the great outdoors. Get away from the hustle and bustle. But have you ever thought about the opportunity to do it full time? Obviously I wouldn't recommend full time RVing for everyone. After all, those of us with children may not find this type of lifestyle suitable, unless you also planned to homeschool, but for many folks, full time RVing is a very practical way of life.
RV Freedom Now is an extremely informative E-Book that truly gives you 10 Easy Steps to full time RV freedom. It is also packed with testimonials from folks that have used the techniques outlined to achieve their goal of full time RVing. Now I don't want there to be any misunderstandings, this is by no means one of those get rich quick scams that so many of us are leary of. On the contrary, it is an informative, easy to understand, and time proven guide to help you in your pursuit of a full time RVing goal.

Maybe you have no desire to be a full time RV enthusiast. That is ok too. This E-Book will allow you to simply generate some additional funds for those extended summer time camping trips. Or it may help you generate a little extra cash in an effort to offset some of the expenses of your more ordinary RV lifestyle. It is simply camping in your recreational vehicle in an area with limited or no facilities. In many areas of the west, you can just drive into the desert, and stay free for up to two weeks. The permit fee is around $140 now, but this allows you to stay up to six months, and you'll have pump stations, dumpsters and water available. Now what? You finally did it. You bought the RV of your dreams and want to see the entire USA. But that one question keeps nagging at you. ""How the heck am I going to connect to the internet so I can stay on top of my business, my banking, my bills, and stay in touch with my family & friends?

There are four main ways to connect your Laptop while RVing:

1) Wi-Fi hot-spots

2) Using a cell phone to connect to your laptop.

We won't discuss these two because Wi-Fi can be hard to find on the road and using a cell phone is slow, cumbersome, and ties up your voice line.

3) Satellite Service

4) Mobile Broadband Service from Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T using a Data Card

That leaves Satellite and Mobile Broadband as the two real alternatives. In a nutshell, Mobile Broadband is a better alternative for most RVers for the following reasons: Much less equipment cost, lower monthly cost, easier setup, and it works IN MOTION, rolling down the road! The one advantage Satellite would have is that it does work in a few areas where there is no Mobile Broadband coverage, but these areas are very remote (areas where a cell phone does not even work).

Let's compare the costs of each:

Satellite Service - Equipment & Install can cost several thousand dollars for the dish and all the other equipment. Monthly service can be $59.99 to $99.99 depending on data speeds.

Mobile Broadband - Cards start at $0 and go up to $150. The monthly rate is $59.99 a month for speeds up to 3.1Mbps (DSL/Cable type speeds) anywhere in the USA, and include free GPS services. Speeds can vary from dial-up type speed in remote areas to the Broadband speed depending on network build out. See a Coverage Map for details. Setup is as simple as installing a CD in your laptop to add the software. A few more clicks, and you are on the internet.

Clearly, Mobile Broadband is much more economical than Satellite Service. But what other factors are there?

One major advantage of Mobile Broadband is that the service works in motion. Since most RVers drive as couples or have an entire family, this can come in handy. Unlike most Satellite services, passengers don't have to wait for the next stop to connect.

Free Built-In GPS service. Sprint has a new Connection Manager that has a very easy to use GPS service that allows you to see your location on a live map. You can also pull up the nearest restaurant, gas station, or what ever else you may need. Additionally, it even has a Live Traffic service that shows the current traffic conditions, bottlenecks, and accidents on the highways you are on. This service would be most useful to the average RV enthusiast.

Have more than 1 Laptop to connect? Many RVers are learning about the new Mobile Routers which use a Mobile Broadband Card inserted into the router instead of the Laptop directly. The router creates a Wi-Fi signal that up to 5 computers can use at the same time...all for the same $59.99 monthly fee. This once again adds to the value of Mobile Broadband since more users can take advantage of the service. Also, many RVers now use the Mobile Routers at home also, so they can cancel their Cable or DSL service, saving themselves even more money.

If your life depends on getting internet access every single place you will ever go, and you don't need to use it while in motion, go ahead and get Satellite. Here are some
general RV tips to make your RVing experiences safe and enjoyable.

Rent an RV for a short camping trip: it's the ideal way to explore your true needs before buying.

Put moth balls near the propane lines of the water heater and refrigerator. This will deter
spiders.

Consider taking a professional RV driving course attuned to the specialized demands of
safely and efficiently operating an RV

To protect your RV's plumbing, use a water pressure regulator when connected to any water source.

Use an auto battery charger to charge your batteries.

A great tip to conserve gray-water holding tank space is to turn water off when shampooing and soaping up in the shower. Also, don't run the water while you are
brushing your teeth.

Diluted bleach poured into the freshwater tank, drained, refilled with water and drained again will prevent odors over a long winter.

Check your RV's Tire Pressure Often

Save general wear and tear on your RV air conditioner by parking in the shade when camping or whenever possible.

Use your generator to operate the roof air conditioner instead of the dash A/C. It cools your rig down quicker. Your RV's engine will not get so hot and it will run more efficiently.

Power conservation tip: run the water heater only when necessary.

Use Velcro tape for hanging and fastening things in your RV.

Use prepaid phone cards while traveling and camping. They are generally inexpensive and easy to use.

Cradle modems will allow you to connect to the Internet from the road, even from a pay phone.

When backing up a trailer, put your hand on the bottom of the vehicle's steering wheel and turn it in the direction you want the trailer to go.

A general rule when RVing: Always pay particular attention to your loads. Overloaded trailers can seriously damage the towing vehicle, and overloaded RVs can cause tire
failure and worse.

Get a carbon monoxide detector for your RV. Replace the batteries regularly. Make sure your smoke detector works also.

Always drain the black-water holding tank first. Then drain the gray-water. Following this tip will help clean out your hose.

Fabric softener sheets
placed in drawers, closets, and other general locations in an RV
prevents musty odors and that "closed up" smell.

Take two coolers - one for beverages, one for food - a particularly important consideration on longer camping trips. Think about investing in a thermoelectric cooler.

Put screenwire in your rubber bumper plugs to prevent bees from nesting.

As a camping tip, use paper plates and paper cups to save on dishwashing.

Save power by using fluorescent lights.

CampingTips

About the Author:

John Dee is a writer for Bornwild.info

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com
- General RV Tips

Need Info?

If you are an avid RVer or just plan out camping events every year, RV Travel guides are a Must Have! Whether you need info on where to "dump" or "where to pitch your tent" ...these guides are a fantastic reference. They know about finding wholesalers, setting up their table professionally, and researching markets. But if they really want to explode their sales, there are other flea market secrets to consider.

What is the top flea market secret? Know your customers... and then give them what they want.

Flea Market Secrets - Economic Demographics

It all comes down to money if you want to profit from your flea market business. Figuring out the economic levels of the flea market customers can help you choose not only what to sell, but how to sell it. People in higher economic brackets would respond better to name brand items and collectibles. Those in lower economic groups can be lured with sale offers such as "buy one, get one half off." They are also more apt to buy used goods.

Flea Market Secrets - Gender Differences

That men and women shop differently is not one of the top flea market secrets. In fact, stereotypes about men and women shopping abound. For the most part, the stereotypes are true: men hone in on the particular item or items they want and buy nothing else. Display tools, automotive goods, and other masculine themed items prominently. Women often like to browse and enjoy searching for treasures on your table.

Flea Market Secrets - Age Groups

One of the top flea market secrets to high profits is to always market to children. Parents often give kids a dollar or two to spend on whatever they want at the flea market. Older kids and teenagers represent a huge shopping group. Use the flea market secrets wisely and place trendy teen products or toys on the front corner of your table or booth where kids can find them.

Do not forget about the older folk at the flea market, however. Baby boomers and older folk make up a large portion of flea market traffic. Flea market secrets of high profit vendors dictate that you offer products they will like and you will make sales.
About the Author:

Learn how to start your own flea market business at Flea Market Mama. And of course, as you go you have to try to blend in with vehicles that are much smaller and more agile on the highway. So good road etiquette and planning is needed to insure as safe a trip as possible. Here are some of the top rving tips for staying safe on the open road:

* Take it easy. Being in a rush in a motorhome or RV is one of the worst ideas possible. They just don't lend themselves to being driven aggressively and fast. If you think about it, you are taking your home, putting it on wheels and driving it down the highway, so don't expect more from it than you really should as you travel. This can be tough for impatient travelers, but you have to get into the RV mindset and stop pushing so hard. Very often a safe driving speed that still covers a good deal of ground is one that is about 10 miles per hour under the speed limit. It's not usually slow enough to create any major problems for those who wish to go faster, and yet it still gets the job done in reasonable time.

* Plan your trips in advance so that you can avoid most of the possible problems that could be encountered on the road. For instance, if possible try to stay off interstates and highways that are known for high speed traffic, especially while going through large cities at rush hour. Just look for alternate routes that may afford you better scenery anyway.

* If bad weather comes up, get off the road as quickly as you can. Large RVs and motorhomes don't take to bad weather and especially high winds very well, so don't try to push it. It's better to live and travel another day than try to force a risky situation.

* Avoid steep grades both uphill and downhill as much as possible. Of course, there are some spots in the country where it's almost impossible to completely avoid them, but do your best to take alternate routs if possible even if they take you out of your way. Steep uphill climbs and downhill traverses can put a lot of stress on a motorhome and if you tow another vehicle behind, it can be even more problematic. If you do decide to drive the hills anyway, take it slow, ignore all the other folks passing you and pull over frequently to rest and calm your nerves often.

* Never back up a motorhome while the towing vehicle is still attached. Unless you are a very experienced trucker you will most likely have way too much to worry about. Instead, unhook your tow vehicle and park it safely to the side, then be sure to have someone help guide you as you back up to make sure that you do so safely.

Driving an RV is like anything else, the more you do it the better you will get at it. But new RVers need to pay attention to these rving tips on road and driving safety as they learn their rig and get more used to this wonderful way of travel.

About the Author:
Find out more about rving tips and rv camping tips by visiting our Motorhomes Review website.
Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - RVing Tips For Staying Safe On The Open Road

How To Make a Campfire Cooking Grill

Cooking is one of my specialties. We know what should be expected at a KOA campground and we haven't ever been disappointed. If you have been RVing for any amount of time you already know a massive part of the camping experience is the campground experience. This month I am including a checklist which may help you get the most from your campground experience. Most of what is written in this checklist is commonsense, but it helps to serve as a way of how to make your next stay at a KOA as agreeable and untroubled as possible.

You should stop traveling whilst there is still lots of light to line up and get settled in at the campground.

Make sure the electrical source is compatible with your RV's electrical system.
Make sure you have all of the proper RV Chemicals
Make sure the site will accommodate the length of your RV.

Try to station the RV, with the side the refrigerator is located on, in the shade to help the chiller work more efficiently.

Check the site for any overhead obstacles that might meddle with setting up the RV.

When you position the unit at the site confirm there's enough clearance for slide-outs and the patio awning.

Test the polarity and voltage before plugging the RV into any electrical source. After you test the polarity and voltage turn the breaker off, plug the RV in, and turn the breaker back on.

Campground voltage can fluctuate depending on the demand. You need to monitor the AC voltage coming into your RV, with a digital voltmeter, throughout your stay at the campground. Plug the meter into any 120-volt outlet in the RV where it is going to be straightforward to watch the AC voltage during your camping trip. By monitoring the AC voltage you can protect thousands of bucks worth of electric plant and appliances in your RV. If AC voltage drops below 105-volts or goes above 130-volts you need to turn electronic apparatus and appliances off till the power is restored. Some digital meters have an audible alarm to warn you about high or low voltage conditions.

Keep a variety of electrical adapters on hand in case you want them. You should also have an extension rope that is compatible with the electrical system on your RV.

Use a water pressure regulator at the campground water source to prevent damage to your plumbing from high water pressure.

Use a white RV drinking hose to attach from the water source to the RV. Hoses not labeled safe for drinking can make contributions to lead and other dangerous chemicals getting in the water. It is a good idea to have a 4-foot, 10-foot and 25-foot hose so you can always reach the campground water hook up.

You must always filter the water going into the RV with a top quality filtration system. The 4-foot or 10-foot drinking hose can be used to go from a water filter to the city water connector on the RV.

Take along a green or black garden hose for all other uses, like flushing out holding tanks or cleaning the RV.

It's a smart idea to have a 10-foot and a 20-foot sewer hose available so you can always reach the campground sewer connection. Spend a little additional and get industrial quality sewer hoses.

Lock your RV and secure valuables when you're not physically at the campsite.

Always keep a spare set of keys for the RV and any other vehicles.

Always practice good campground etiquette and be sure to leave the campsite in the same condition you found it, or better.

For checklists like this and plenty more, be sure to get a copy of my Checklists for RVers PDF .

RV Chemicals

About the Author
Joe Boseman is an author in the RV industry

Lessons Learned From Full-Time RVing

Our RV friend Lloyd wrote in
his "Wanderin' Blog" about lessons he's learned as a full-time RVer. He
has a good list. I especially like "don't make reservations or
commitments." Inevitably, you'll end up rushing and leaving a good
place before you want to. It happened in the first month of hitting the
road plus many times since! We've always regretted it.

So, what additional things did I learn?

1.You can support yourself on the road.
Bill and I had to work as we left at age 47. There are so many jobs for the RVer, you can always find something to supplement income or provide a free or low-cost site while in the area.
2. Slow down.
When you firstbegin full-time travel, it is tempting to try to see it all. That meansmoving every day or two to cover the miles and get from one place toanother.

3. Stay a while in one place.
This a corollary to the previous one. It is a more relaxing pace and you get time to actually see things. If you are visiting a national park, you can get an overview the first day, but come back and do a hike or two or visit an outlying area in the park.

4. Full-time RVing means freedom.
RVers have so many choices that people in stick-bound houses do not have. If you don't like the area move. If you are near a barking dog or the weather turns cold -or hot- move to a new place. You can leave a job if things get bad.

5.You can live more cheaply.

A full-time RVer has much more control of her budget, especially if you own your RV outright and are out of debt. You can boondock on public lands in the West at no charge. You need less "stuff" and that includes clothes. When do you plan to wear that business suit? T-shirts and
jeans or shorts are the usual uniform. Again, it's about choice.

6.Visiting family is (more) fun.
Since you are bringing your own house, you have space when you want and need it. Many families will still try to get you to stay inside their house, but politely decline. Why pack a suitcase to go a few feet? You do have a real bed! And you won't wake anyone if you go for a snack.

7.RVing can be the vehicle to make your dreams come true.
Going to Alaska was the big dream for me. Bill and I worked there for two seasons, opening doors to experiences like kayaking in Glacier Bay and riding the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad that I hadn't even considered before. Kayaking among porpoises and whales was a high point in my life. Last summer, I finally checked Niagra Falls off my list.
The full-time RV lifestyle isaffordable and leads to adventures you've probably never even imagined. It's not for everyone, but don't let fears and money hold you back.

Jaimie Hall Bruzenak is an RV
Lifestyle Expert. She has been RVing since 1992. She and her late
husband weren't retired so RVed on a budget and worked on the road. She
is the author of Support Your RV Lifestyle! It seems like fun and you'd like to try it, but you aren't sure if it's for you. Well, it's a growing industry. Annual RV retail sales topped $14 billion in 2004. As baby boomers take to the road, the RVing pastime and lifestyle are becoming increasingly popular. If you have a hint of the RV itch, then here are 10 common reasons for taking an RV vacation:

Getting Back to Nature: If you are interested in the great outdoors, an RV is a great way to vacation. You can visit state or national parks, tour famous landmarks and simply enjoy some fresh air and natural settings. Take a hike or go fishing. Try white water rafting or canoeing. Play some golf, go swimming, ride your bike. Get some exercise or simply do nothing but enjoy your surroundings.

The Comforts of Home: In an RV, you can have the best of both worlds. Enjoy the great outdoors with more creature comforts than tent camping. Whether you own an RV or try a rental, most RVs are well equipped. You will likely have a kitchen with microwave, fridge and stove, a TV and VCR, beds, living and dining areas and bathroom with shower. Many RVs have slide out rooms that increase the living area at the touch of a button. You can sit outside under your awning, get out of the rain if the weather changes, and turn on the air conditioner if it gets too hot.

Family Matters: Family members of all ages tend to connect with each other when they are away from their normal routine enjoying a simpler lifestyle. Remember that family togetherness can be a double-edged sword. While the RV is comfortable, it is a small living area for a large family. If you are renting, bear this in mind in choosing the size of your rental RV. During the day, try to spend time outdoors or in different activities, so that each family member gets a bit of personal space and time for themselves. But the minor logistics can be managed. The general consensus among RVing families is that an RV vacation tends to bring the family closer together with more communication and the sharing of good times.

Cool for Kids: An RV vacation can be a great way to travel with children. They can go out to play or take part in campground activities. There are likely to be other kids to meet and new places to explore. Children of all ages will enjoy an old-fashioned campfire complete with stories, songs and stargazing. And most kids think it's pretty cool to be in an RV "home on wheels".

Campgrounds: There are many choices in campgrounds and RV parks. In peak season and tourist areas, you should make reservations. Look for the amenities that are important to you. Campgrounds may have swimming pools, lakes, boating, fishing ponds, miniature golf, playgrounds, hiking trails, game rooms, walking or bike paths, tennis courts and activities for kids and adults. You may find dances, barbeques, contests or other entertainment. RV Clubs are worth joining to get campground discounts and other services. Consider the size and setting of the campsites and check out overall campground ratings in campground directories. Also consider proximity to other attractions or landmarks that you want to visit.

Flexibility: In an RV, you have the flexibility to change locations if you get the whim. But take this with a grain of salt. For popular destinations, you may not be able to pick up and find another campground without a reservation. You also want to strike the right balance between seeing different areas, the amount of time spent driving and ensuring you have enough time to relax. Cautions aside, an RV can give you a lot of freedom and spontaneity. RV travel appeals to an inner pioneering spirit and allows you to create your own adventure as you go along your way. You can explore the country at your own pace or take off for last minute mini-vacations, tailgating events and weekend trips.

Affordability: The question of whether it is cheaper to take an RV vacation doesn't have a "one size fits all" answer. The comparison really depends on the type of vacations you would take instead, as well as the way in which you plan to RV. For a one-time trip, you can compare the costs of renting a suitable RV to the costs of hotels, airfare or other means of travel. Or if you are considering regular RV vacations, you may want to purchase a motorhome or towable trailer. In this case, you would need to factor in operating costs, maintenance and the purchase price. In an RV, you can save money by cooking meals at home vs. dining out. You can minimize expenses if you take advantage of activities and amenities already included in the campground rate. Fuel expenses can be managed by reducing the distances traveled and staying longer at a given campground or park.

Driving the RV: Driving yourself gives you control over where you go and the pace of your travel. You don’t have the hassle of airline counters and keeping to schedules. You can stop and take a break when you choose. You don't need a special license to drive an RV. Sure, it takes some getting used to -- but the number of RVs on the road should tell you that it is doable. Practice on your own (or with one other person) before you load up your passengers. Take advantage of any classes available through your dealer or one of the many RV organizations.

How about a relaxing vacation for a change? How many times have you returned from a trip saying you need a vacation from the vacation? Now don't kid yourself - if you are the type who likes to schedule all the details of a trip, that's not going to change simply because you are traveling in an RV. But in choosing an RV vacation, you may shift your thinking and be more apt to use your time off as an opportunity to truly relax and unwind.

Test out the RV Lifestyle: The RV vacation may serve as a test drive to gauge your overall interest in the RV lifestyle. There are RVers who spend several weeks per year in RV travel. Other RVers take off for months. Snowbirds are RVers who make an annual trek to warmer climates for the winter season. And then there are fulltime RVers whose only home is their RV. Many of these people started out by vacationing in an RV as a way to try out the RV lifestyle.

Copyright 2005 Your RV Lifestyle, all rights reserved.
About The Author
Jill is a fulltime RVer and editor of www.your-rv-lifestyle.com, where you can find more tips on choosing, affording and enjoying your RV lifestyle.

Have a Great RV Vacation

Vacationing with a recreational vehicle or RV is the ultimate experience in freedom. You are literally in control of your every travel movement. You are the king of the road.
There are many recreational vehicles to choose from, including the truck camper, the folding camping trailer, the travel trailer, the motorhome, the motorcoach, or the campervan. You can rent or buy your RV, or if you are very passionate about it, you can fashion your own.

The perfect RV

An RV should, at the very minimum, contain beds, a table, and kitchen benches and cupboards. But you can also get an RV with fully-functional bathrooms, refrigerators, larger living areas and bedrooms. In fact, some RVs are truly like a home away home with satellite TV and internet connections. An RV vacation can be as simple or as elaborately luxurious as you like.

The advantages of RV vacations

There are so many advantages to RV travel, it's hard to imagine an RV vacation could be anything less than great. RV vacations are also the perfect vacations for kids.

How to organize an RV vacation

Organizing a great RV vacation is easy. At the very minimum you need to stock up on road maps, and ideally use the Internet to research the places your wish to visit. You'll need to locate where the RV parks and camping grounds are situated. You can plan as much or as little of your itinerary as you want, but always let people back home know what direction you are traveling in. Once you've bought or rented your RV spend some time learning how to operate the various equipment. Take a few practice driving (and parking) rounds to get a feel for the peculiarities of driving an RV. And then, get ready, get set, and go!

Source: http://www.rvcampingtips.com/articles/Having-a-Great-RV-Vacation.html

The World Of RVing

Author: John Pelley

The World of RVing.

Ever want to leave home and become full-time RVers?
Does it cost a lot of money to live this adventurous lifestyle?

Visit the web site of www.JMPelley.org and see how John and Maggie Pelley, The Geriatric Gypsies, do this. They drive a 2000 Ford F350 one ton dually diesel powered truck and tow behind them a 33 foot Fleetwood Avion fifth-wheel trailer with two slide outs. They have been on the road since May 2002. Their plan was to start on the East Coast and head West. They barely left Park Forest in their shakedown trip when they hit a low hanging branch on the street, where they had lived. This minor inconvenience ended up with a new roof being installed on their trailer and a postponed trip East. The furthest East they got that year was Michigan and Indiana.

At their site you will find tips about full-timing RVing. How to choose a RV. How to communicate with friends. Where to receive mail. Checklists for entering or leaving a campsite. Do it yourself tips. Where to shop. Where to park. Where to find instant communities. How to live on a limited budget. How to avoid the learning curve. They are always interested in finding more tips about the RV lifestyle. If you have any contact them at Johnpelley@JMPelley.org.

Visit the places they have seen. They started on the East Coast of the United States: South in the winter and North in the summer. Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, Wisconsin, Canada: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec. They have found in their travels many ideas and facts, which they were never taught in school, even with two Masters degrees.

They believe in living green and being Eco-friendly. Living the RV life has taught them to take care of the planet and better care of themselves. They have found companies who think like them. For more Eco-friendly information see www.Sunpowereddreams.com, www.greenhomebuilding.com, and www.dreamgreenhomes.com, and wind power.

Learn how to volunteer. National Parks, State Parks, and other agencies are always looking for volunteers. For full-time RVers, many will provide a campsite with electric, water, and sewer facilities for three days of work or “play” at the park. No matter what your expertise might be, the Parks are always looking for help: campground hosts, interpretation, maintenance, administration, computers, visitor center help, etc.

Enjoy some of the music that they love. John has a CD of Native American flute music, which people find very soothing and relaxing. Teachers use it in their classrooms to help their students study. Many have found the music suitable for meditation. Featured too are other music and links to music, which are available as they travel.

They offer products for sale, which will enhance your traveling experiences: CDs, fleece blankets, dream catchers, etc. New items appear regularly.
About the Author:

John and Maggie Pelley are Geriatric Gypsies. Both of us are retired from the rat race of working. We are full-time RVers, who ran away from home. We began our travels on the East Coast and, like the migrating birds, seek the warmth of the seasons. No more shoveling snow in Chicago. We have discovered volunteering with the National Park System. During our travels we have found that each town has a story to tell: some are more interesting than others. Both of us enjoy good listening music as we go. John has a CD he has recorded of Native American flure music. We have learned that RVing has a learning curve. We want to pass on some advice the help others avoid this trecherous curve. Life is an adventure. We are living it to the utmost.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - The World of Rving

Rver's Online

Author: Barbara Tremblay Cipak

According to the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC), there are approximately 7.2 million RVs on USA roads today. These stats include motor homes, travel trailers, folding camping trailers, truck campers and van conversions. MARVAC also reports 25% of RVer's access the internet while on the road. As more RVer's learn how to gain computer access while travelling, this statistic will continually increase.

Some popular ways for RVer's to go Online:

Using Your Cell Phone:

Although this method is definitely not a speedy way to access the internet, it is an extremely useful way to get your emails while travelling. First, set-up a "web based email account", such as Yahoo or Hotmail, then access the internet with your cell phone and login to your email account from the comfort of your RV while travelling. Also, your cell phone can be used as a "modem" for internet access on your computer (the one you brought with you in your RV). In other words, the cell phone provides the internet accessibility on your computer. The computer is connected to the cell phone using a USB Cable or Bluetooth. Of course, the main benefit of hooking your cell phone up to your computer, is the larger screen you'll be able to use instead of the smaller Cell Phone screen. A couple of things to keep in mind with this option is to carefully review the "minutes" package-deal you have with your cell phone provider. If you're not careful you can really rack up the minutes and your bill. Also, when you're using your cell phone to hook up to the internet, you can't use it as a phone for that time period. Oh, but fear not, you can get computer telephone access to solve that problem.

Remotely Access Your Home Computer:Yes, you would have to leave your computer on at home, with your internet hooked-up to it. Remember that power failures can happen at home while you're away, so if you leave a house key with a neighbor or friend, there may be times they need to reset your home computer so you can regain remote access. This is a service you sign up for, that enables you to remotely connect to the computer(s) of your choice. However, there are companies now who advertise that you can access your "Remote PC" without needing the compter at the other end switched on. You can normally take these services offered on a free trial run. To read more about how remote pc access works, and get your free trial offer, go here.

Install Satellite Internet:These systems can give you internet access virtually anywhere, anytime. If you travel to remote locations where getting access via other wireless applications wouldn't work, this is definitely an option to further examine. These systems are mounted to your RV roof top or can be a separate auxiliary unit. When you are stopped, you then get RV internet access. Note that this is an expensive option. Prices can be in the thousands of dollar range. For example, the roof top system offered by MotoSAT's DataStorm ranges between $5000 and $5500 with a $99 a month unlimited access fee.

Wireless Fidelity (WiFi Access):Get a computer with a WiFi Card will, in most cases, will get you access to the internet right from your RV. RV parks, and other locations, are installing Wireless Fidelity Networks, which essentially enable you to directly connect to the internet so long as you are in range of this network. The internet provides lists of "hot-spot" maps, giving the traveller an idea of where Wireless Fidelity Networks can be found. Restaurants, coffee shops, RV parks, Trucks Stops, are a few example of locations that may have WiFi, so with your own computer and a WiFi card, you are able to access the internet.

RV Parks Modem Hook-ups:Not much to say here. Some RV parks offer the ability to hook up to their modem, usually in a central location or an office of sorts. This isn't very convenient, as you have to leave the comfort of your RV with computer in hand and hook-it up to their modem. A park offering WiFi would have little need for this option, however, just in case, most have them.

With the ever changing world of wireless, no doubt more options for wireless access are being invented as this article is being typed.
About the Author:

Owner of My-Telework-Tools.com and her personal passion site, Drageda.com.
