Free Traffic

I want to reply to the previous post "The Road To Free Traffic". As you know, to make money online you must get targeted traffic to your website and/or blog. I made this post prematurely thinking that the information would be free. Well I was wrong and I apologize for my misinformation. What this all boiled down to was a product launch by Tellman Knudson. Apparently Tellman did a survey of his online marketing students to find out what they were having the most challenges with, and generating traffic won hands down. So Tellman created a course on generating traffic to your site whether it be a website or blog.

I have to hand it to Tellman, that was a wise idea. Unfortunately the course was in the upwards of $1,900.00, far from the free I mentioned. Again it was my fault, not Tellman’s. So since I made the misleading post, I want to redeem myself by giving you some free methods of generating traffic to your website and/or blog.

1. Directory Submission

Submit you site to as many directories as possible. This is a very time consuming and tedious chore. You must identify directories that have the free option, in conjunction with the paid and reciprocal submission choices. Brad Callen has a free directory submission tool that prevents you from having to retype your personal and site information into every directories sign up page. Go to

2. Article Submission

Write articles and submit them to article directories. This is a powerful tool for those who like to write, but we run into the same issue that I stated earlier. You have to sign up for each individual directory. This as do the directory submission takes days if not weeks depending upon the number of directories you submit to. I should also mention that your article would have to be approved before being made public. There is no guarantee that your article will see the light of day, but if it were structured properly (no typo’s or grammatical errors), then you would most likely be approved. 3. Post Comments To Other Like Blogs

This is another way to generate free traffic and all you have to do is find other blogs that have the same or similar content as your site. This is two fold in you get a backlink to your site and if someone clicks on your link, traffic. Two things to keep in mind, make sure the blog site does not have "nofollow" links in the comment section and make sure your comment is of quality so people want to click to come to your site.

4. Post To Forums

Posting to forums is another free method of generating traffic. This one also involves signing up to join that forum group. Again this is time consuming, but this is the price for generating free traffic.

Most forums are also moderated, so if the moderator does not accept your comment, then he or she won't post it.

5. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

We all know this, but we spend so little time optimizing our sites. Above is what's called offpage optimization, so let's talk about onpage optimization. Make sure your content is unique and relevant. Also make sure you have good keyword density or in other words, make sure the title shows up in 1% to 3% of your article or post. Make sure you have no broken links. Another thing that robs you of page rank is too many outgoing links. Search engine spiders cannot read JavaScript, so be mindful of this when encrypting or cloaking affiliate links.

Make Money Online with Pay Per Click Ads

Well as you move through the vast world of make money online, you come across numerous buzzwords and phrases that make up the industry. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Affiliate Marketing and today’s topic Pay Per Click Ads.

After failed attempts to generate traffic to my website, I received an email explaining another way to generate traffic called pay per click (PPC). I immediately knew that this was the most expedient method of getting traffic to my website. I searched Google for all the information I could handle on the subject. The only problem was I would have to pay (as it states) for the traffic.

I opened a Google Adwords account, chose a hot product to promote and off I went. Being new to pay per click, I was very cautious when it came to structuring my first campaigns. I wanted to make sure I didn’t spend more than I could afford seeing I hadn’t made any money online yet. During my time of study, I learned how to operate within the Adwords domain, how to find profitable niches and most important how I was suppose to make money.

Well to make money online with pay per click ads you must make more sales of your niche product than it cost for the ad/s you place. I thought I had a hot niche with reverse phone lookup. Placed two ads as a split test to see which one would perform best. After getting an average 1.5 to 2% click through rate, I had no sales. I continued monitoring my campaign for the first 300 clicks to determine which ad of the two had the better click through and conversion rate. One ad barely beat out the other in click throughs, but still no conversions from either.

Well needless to say I became frustrated as I spent more money on a program with no return on investment. I began to make the changes recommended in some of the follow up articles I read on pay per click with not success. After switching products and achieving the same miserable results, I decided to put this program on hold before I became broke.

I don’t want to give the impression that pay per click advertising is not profitable. In my case I went in under funded and I believe you have to have enough money to effectively promote your ad/s over time. The key is to get your ad/s positioned on the first page of the search results requested, preferably positions 3 through 6. Also have a daily budget that would allow your ad/s to stay positioned there throughout the entire day for maximum exposure.

Now there are other keys to making a pay per click ad campaign work, but that’s a course in itself.

Make Money Online - Generating Original Content

Two posts ago I was talking about the disapproval letter I received from Google for Adsense. I spent the last “A Journey” post explaining why I cloaked my affiliate links. Now back to the second reason for my Adsense disapproval, "No original content". Well I wanted to laugh, but Google is driving the ship. You have to wonder, how much original material can it be considering there are over 188 million search results for "Make Money Online".

You have to wonder as I did, why did I choose “Make Money Online”. When I started it sounded like a winner. How can you go wrong teaching others how to make money online? As I journeyed, I found that there were an enormous number of players in this arena. So it stands to reason why it’s difficult to generate original material in this area. Well apparently the big boys are generating this so-called original material, but again what material is original?

Well you know me; I started a Google search for make money online to see what original material was out there and as I suspected, the topics between websites were somewhat the same. Obviously the main topic was how to make money online, followed by the mistakes most make when attempting to make money online, to why their system is the be-all to making money online. Now there are numerous subtopics like affiliate marketing, article writing, ebay, search engine optimization (SEO), Google Adwords, pay per click advertising (PPC) and so on.

So all that being said, let’s define “Original Content”. My definition is simply “Something created that never existed before”. Webster says “relating to, or constituting an origin or beginning – not secondary. So does 188 million search results for make money online constitute 188 million forms of new original content. Well the answer as you guessed is no.

As I discovered, to generate original content is to take someone else’s written material and reword it so that it’s not considered plagiarism. Now how’s that for original content. So that’s the game played to get this so-called original content. You can’t blame Google, because who wants to search for information and visit ten websites with the exact same content.

Well the only ways around this is to do just what I stated above, find a niche that you can write about from your personal experiences or become an innovator who finds original ways of making money online. If you are not a writer as most of us aren’t, then use the websites that give access to free articles that can be rewritten for original content. Make sure at least 50% of the original article is reworded to constitute original content.

Is it Possible to have a Successful Online Marketing Business?

Everywhere that we turn, people are suffering due to the poor economy. While it may be a bad time to start a business locally, it is always a good time to start one online. Since you are approaching a global market there will still be plenty of people out there interested in what you offer. They will also be able to buy it in spite of these tough economic times.

The problem with operating a successful online marketing business doesn’t have to do with finding people, but with getting your information out there and into the hands of the right people. It is vital that you know who you are target market is and how to find them. Don’t assume for a second that they will be able to find you on their own.

There are many ways in which you can get your information out there. Marketing is a big part of any successful online business so take what is out there. Don’t rely solely upon just one. Some of them you will need to pay for and others will be free. Make sure you have several of them as part of your overall marketing strategy.

It can seem like time isn’t on your side when you want to have a successful online marketing business. Yet you want to take time to get the basics of your business in place before you launch it. Remember that you only get one shot at making a great first impression. Don’t blow it by not being professional enough or succumbing to common pitfalls.

You will find there are many pieces to place together if you want to do well with any online business. Your product needs to have plenty to offer to consumers. They aren’t going to just pay for something because you want to sell it! They need to feel that there is something worthwhile for them. Make sure they are well aware of what that value is.

While you do need to focus on your sales letters, you also want other sources of written material to be out there as well. Those can be in the way of articles on your website or on free article links. When you share information with them that they seek, they will come to value your opinion. Consumers are also more likely to buy from someone that they know of on some level than have no idea about.

Make sure you get information about your product recognized all over the internet. You want to have an excellent position when it comes to the search engine rankings. Since most consumers do use them to find information, you don’t want to be buried at the bottom of the barrel. It does take some time to fully understand the concept of search engine optimization so make sure you carve out some time for it.

Never let the cost of marketing your online business hold you back. If you do, the sales are going to be much lower than you had anticipated. Use trendy types of advertising such as creating a blog, posting videos, and even taking advantage of social media sites. All of them can allow you to get the message out to people with an interest in what you are selling.

Don’t underestimate the value of local advertising for your online marketing business as well. You can offer fliers with a website link on them and even discount codes they can enter when they shop online. In addition to bringing you traffic, this method allows you a simple way to be able to track where the sales generated from.

There are plenty of tried and true marketing methods out there that can help you with a successful online business. You need to have confidence in yourself though and a willingness to try new things. You need to strive to be a leader in your niche market rather than one following the crowd. Make sure you understand the shifts in market trends as well so you aren’t stuck in one direction while consumers are going another.

If bringing in some more money would certainly help you out in these tough economic times, now is the time to take action. There isn’t very much overhead expense involved in most online businesses and that means you can get started right away. There are plenty of consumers out there so if you have identified a need, get it implemented.

You will find plenty of tools and information online to get you started as well. Make sure you know where you are headed and where it is going to take in order to get there. Work hard to achieve those goals and to give your online marketing business some longevity.

Should An Internet Marketing Affiliate Cloak Their Affiliate Links?

I do admit that as an internet marketing affiliate my affiliate links are cloaked on my website. The reason for cloaking is that as affiliates marketers, we are given an affiliate id that lets the affiliate vender know who sold his or she product and who to pay the commission. Your affiliate id is attached to the URL in more cases of the sales page of the affiliate vender. These links look somewhat like this (http://yourAffiliateID.VendorsID.com). This is what is called a naked affiliate link meaning everyone can see it as that.

Now anyone who is apart of an internet marketing affiliate program know, having naked affiliate links is not a good thing. As we all know, there are dishonest people out there who are ready, willing and able to steal our hard earned commissions. This is where the cloaked or encrypted links come in. Cloaking or in some cases the encrypting of affiliate links is a must when it comes to commission thief. There are numerous programs and scripts designed to do this. Most of these automated programs use JavaScript, which the GoogleBots or Spiders can’t read for indexing purposes. Another reason I suspect Google disallows the practice.

Another thing that’s most disturbing about not being able to encrypt your affiliate links is there are programs online that steal your commissions without any human intervention. The program searches for these transactions and automatically inserts the thieves affiliate id in place of yours. I’m not an authority on this process, but there has to be a way to protect internet marketing affiliates, while pleasing Google and the other search engines.

So what am I suppose to do? I read a post that stated that a .php redirect was the best way to go. So I got rid of the JavaScript encryption for each affiliate link and implemented the .php redirect script. Both systems gave me the same results, but I wasn't sure how this affected me with Google. I recently searched Google for my website and I got the same results mentioned earlier. Apparently Google has blacklist my website, so the .php redirect didn’t matter. I read that once Google zaps your website, you may as well build a new one and get rid of the old. Not a pleasing thought considering the time and effort that went into building it.

In the last few months there has been an explosive proliferation of all manner of Make Money Online / Make Money at Home / MLM / Direct Sales opportunities.

Business opportunity fervor is visible in the requests for media interviews that I get; just a couple of weeks ago I was conversing with a reporter from the Washington Post about this very topic. It's plainly visible on Twitter and in the blogosphere; we're seeing it in our blog comments and the kinds of new customers we're getting. It's a sea change that's resulted from the current economic climate.

Everybody is jumping in with both feet. But many people are AFRAID. And justifiably so. There are some very important things that all such people need to be mindful of. Especially beginners.

If I wanted to make a bunch of money I'd just shamelessly pander to this trend, and tell everyone how easy it is to make money online.

Those of you who know me know, it ain't so simple. I've been burned before, so my caution lights go on. I want people to know what they're getting into. Today, my thoughts about what separates the good from the bad in the biz-op world. And what it really takes to build a viable online business.

A web-based business you can run from home is the white picket fence of the 21st century. It's hard to think of a more desirable asset. Allows the young mom to be at home with her kids and be able to manage interruptions (since email is less urgent than phone calls); allows you to travel, to live where you want, do business wherever you are. From hotels or beaches or cybercafes.

And it's not like this is some remote fantasy. There are hundreds of thousands of people who make a respectable living online.

So let's talk about the pitfalls:

Online marketing as a profession is 10-12 years old. It's just as deep as engineering or accounting or medicine.
However, it can be made to appear a lot easier than it actually is. (Just like flipping houses or anything else on late night TV.)
The public school education system conditions you to believe that success comes from "staying on track" with a plan or a program and being "at least as good" as everybody else.
Most "business in a box" opportunities cater to #2 and #3.
In marketing, the truth is: Conformity is death. In marketing, success comes from doing something distinctively different. It means "staying on track" with your customers but marching to a different drum than your competitors.
Most "business in a box" opportunities blatantly ignore #5, and in fact pretend that it doesn't exist.
The best way I know of to describe "staying on track" with your customers is: Making a commitment that you are going to only try to market to people for whom you could literally write a page of their diary; and they'd say "Wow, how did you know that about me?"

It's that psychic connection. If I had to name the most elusive yet most critical ingredient of marketing success, that is it, right there: Being able to write a page in your customer's diary.

Now what's cool about online marketing is, there are literally a million niches. There is nothing on earth that caters to your unique individuality like the Internet. There are few things I admire more than a person who has found his or her singular voice on the Internet and finds joy in expressing it.

Which means if you're trying to figure out what to do online, the first question you need to address is:

What markets do you know so well that you could write a page of their diary?

A few weeks ago I wrote a post called "Memo to a Pink Koolaid Drinker" where a very frustrated woman from New York City asked me what she could do to get her business to finally work. I gave her some candid advice including a self-inventory that I think is a MUST for all marketers, successful or not.

Also, a couple of years ago I got a delicious rant from a Roundtable Member (read: NOT a beginner, actually was the owner of a fast-growing, multi-million dollar company) who was frustrated at all the people selling all advice and no results. Interestingly, the #1 recommendation I had for him was to perform some un-glamorous surveys and market research. Make sure there's water in the swimming pool before you dive in.

For anyone who does not yet have a genuinely successful online business up and running - and even some who do - I heartily recommend Glenn Livingston and Terry Dean's A-Z blueprint system. I think it's underpriced and it's got 10X more meat than most other systems that claim to teach you everything you need to know.

It's also probably not as exciting and glamorous as those systems. It's probably like that old movie The Karate Kid where the Kid spends the first half of the movie "Painting the Fence" for Mr. Miyagi.

But it works. You can download it and make it your "bible" and sole focus for the next 6 months, a guideline for everything you do. And as far as I'm concerned you can un-subscribe from everybody else who does not deliver meaty, actionable advice in the emails they send to you every week.

I've gotten a slew of questions, worries and gripes about this, from beginners who are clearly very nervous. Let me share some with you:

I just don't get it. I have been in this spiral of hype from you and [marketer X] and [marketer Y] which seems to have you all in simply an endless trail of "buy this now that you've done that" mode. And now this product your promoting (AdWords Technique: 7% to 20% CTR, Overnight) that sounds, of course, like something I've gotta have…you've done an absolutely stellar job of hyping it. BUT under your Terms and Agreement is this paragraph:

"Links to Third Party Websites.

We may provide links to web pages which are not part of the our web family. These sites are not under our control and we are not responsible for the information or links you may find there. We are providing these links only as a convenience. The presence of these links on any of our websites is not intended to imply our endorsement of that site but to provide a convenient link to relevant sites which are managed by other organizations, companies, or individuals. Accordingly, this Agreement does not apply to your use of unaffiliated sites to which this site only provides links."

And this tells me basically that you are only blowing smoke. I'm very disappointed in this path that I've been led down. So, what you are telling me with this paragraph is that you are only promoting this product so that you can make more money. Right? In essence, "buyer be ware".

Perry, I simply want to make an honest income for my family. I've got 3 young sons and have been desiring a home-based business that gives my the kind of money we need to live the way we choose while working for myself. Yes, I'm willing to work at it.

I thought I found it, then it wasn't what was pitched, so I bought more stuff that I was told I needed, then I thought I had it, but I'm really still in the learning curve because it keeps getting more and more involved with what I need to buy next, thanks to all you great promoters. And so far it seems I've been led down a road of simply promoting other people's info on how to make money, which promote other people's info on how to make money, which (and on and on).

Can you please just help me make an honest living for my family without leading me down a seemingly endless hole of "how-to's" and "must-have's"?

Finally, notice how often it is that when I get questions like this, I direct people to do market research. I think Howie and Glenn's Checkmate system is a really easy to use, highly effective way to find out - in an hour or two - where your competitors in AdWords are falling short.

I've never seen a market, however competitive, that did not have holes in it. No fortress is impenetrable.

But in any case, pick battles you can win. Sell to people for whom you can write a page in their diary. Never jump into a market you know nothing about, based on a promise of easy winnings. You'll get slaughtered.

This sales pitch sounds fairly similar to every other beginner's guide to internet riches. "We'll tell you the truth!" It really sounds to me like yet another opportunity to soak beginners out of some money. I'm simply unwilling to part with $100 for another beginner's guide that may or may not be useful to me. I must say that your endorsement is disappointing. Generally, when you promote your conferences, products, calls, etc., there is an understanding between the reader and you that this is your project. Your baby that you promote. Now you have ventured into the "beginner's guide to internet wealth" affiliate world wherein it is very difficult to trust an endorsement because it is based on commissions and gullible readers. I think you owe it to everyone to at least acknoweldge that this is a commission based endorsement. That's the professional thing to do.

Any educated marketer should know that many if not most marketing course endorsements are paid. Mine included. Frankly most things I could endorse have an affiliate program so therefore I'd be foolish not to get paid for my endorsement.

Where is my Website?

How many of you know that building a website or webpage, then publishing it means nothing at the time you publish. Well I didn’t and I felt like Rodney Dangerfield (no respect) when I realized this. I had signed up for numerous online marketing affiliate programs and I expected to have made at least one sell of an affiliate product.

I checked my visitors log within the cpanel of my hosting account and noticed that there was no traffic to my site other than the GoogleBot and me. So I decided to do a Google search for my website. Well it turned up nothing but information pertaining to the previous owner of the domain name. Then I searched in "Online Marketing", which I knew was a long shot.

Well during this time I had signed up for Google Adsense, a program where Google pays you on a per click basis in most cases for advertisements they place on your website or blog. I figured this would be a way to make a little extra income on top of affiliate products. Google has to approve your website before they will allow you to place ads.

Well as I stated before, I felt like Rodney Dangerfield again when I received an email from Google stating that my application for Adsense was disapproved. I thought, not only is my website not visible to sell affiliate products, but I’m not even going to make any money from Google Adsense either. The email went on to say click on this link for the reasons for this disapproval.

The reasons were that I violated Google's webmasters guidelines and that my site offered no original content. Now lets look at each in the order given. I read Google's guidelines and the only thing I could see was their dislike for Cloaking. Now my understanding of cloaking is disguising the destination URL that displays on the bottom left portion of the webpage with an alternate URL. This is also known as a redirect.

I think I understand why Google takes this position and I can’t blame them. Say you visit a website or blog and decide to click on one of the links on the page you’re visiting. The link icon says, “Check out the large selection of books we have at low prices” and the display URL at the bottom on mouseover says, “http://Amazon.com”.

Now you click on the Amazon icon and behold you’re redirected to some pornographic website. Now for some that would be okay, but to others that would be offensive. It wasn’t where you intended to go and most important, think about our children who surf the web. Apparently this was such a problem that Google banned the practice or maybe never allowed it in the first place. Now again, this is my take on this issue.

The only problem I have is that we are not redirecting our visitors to another website, page or blog. They end up where the advertisement or link states. Here’s an example: Your visitor sees an icon that says, “Check out the large selection of books we have at low prices”. They mouseover and instead of seeing the affiliate link http://amazon.com/AffiliateID, (which we don’t want thieves to see), they see “http://www.mywebsite.com/AmazonBooks. Another day in my Journey

Well my website was complete and I’d just entered into the world of online marketing. Considering I’d never built a website before, in my opinion it wasn’t too bad. Far from what I considered to be a top notch website, but still not bad. I liken it to everyone thinks the baby is ugly but the mother. I was pretty proud of my efforts considering all the technical challenges I encountered along the way.

I studied many websites in the online marketing niche and tried to emulate some of their better qualities. As a webmaster, (an I use that term loosely) it was easier said than done. I had gotten to the point to where I understood HTML well enough to get around a webpage. I could have cut and paste parts of others websites, but that felt like cheating. Many do it and change some of the attributes just to say that they are not a copycat.

Now lets be earnest, how original can a webmaster be considering there is estimated to be over 182 million websites (I’m not sure if that includes WebPages and blogs) on the Internet. Now am I saying that I have a one of a kind website, no I’m saying I didn’t copy and paste things I liked from others. I truly am not trying to make anyone feel guilty, I’m just reflecting on my experience.

Considering some of the beautiful online marketing websites I've seen , I might have to give up being a choir boy just for the sake of looking good. Like Billy Crystal says "it's not how you feel, but how you look" and I want to look marvelous. But all joking aside, I going to have to take my own advice and hire a professional webmaster to get the results I desire. I'm being stubborn in taking this action considering all the hard work that went into my website. It's hard to let go!

Auto-Responder Nightmare

After putting together a website for online marketing, I decided to install the auto-responder that came as a bonus from the teleseminar package. Trying to get that auto-responder installed and working was a total nightmare. Considering I’m above average when it comes to technical issues and also meticulously following the designer’s installation instructions, I couldn’t get the software to work.

I called on technical support from my web hosting company and the teleseminar staff and nobody could get the auto-responder to work. Finally after two support teams quit, I gave up too. Red flags should have gone up when the designer stated in the instructions “Don’t contact me if you have a problem with the software”.

I settled with Aweber, the one most online marketing guru’s say is the best overall in the industry. Aweber offers a host of tools necessary for successful follow-up email campaigns. There are numerous “how to” videos, tracking tools, the ability to setup unlimited email campaigns and much more. Aweber starts at $19.00 per month and well worth every penny.

After viewing some of the videos, I was well on my way to setting up my first campaign. As most of you know, an auto-responder is a key tool in your online marketing business. It could take days if not weeks to follow-up manually with numerous campaigns without one.

Now that I had a clearer understanding of Awebers layout, it was time to setup a few follow-up messages for my opt-in visitors. I started with a welcome message and a few affiliate product announcements. I felt pretty good considering pain I endured with the previous auto-responder.

Now as I write this, I’m reminded that I must emphasize if I haven’t done so before, that this was the process that I took considering my limited knowledge. There is tons of Online Marketing “How To” materials out there (look at this blog) that will give you step by step instruction.

Now with web logging you would need a website and domain name, but with blogging, you only need an account with blog provider. In most instances these blogs templates are free. With the oncoming of blogging, personal journals have become commonplace for those who wish to be known the world over.

Generally speaking, blogs were created for personal use. Like a journal, people can publish their adventures, thoughts, and ideas online.

Needless to say, with the advent of the online marketing, blogs have gradually taken the spotlight when it comes to providing marketers an opportunity to increase their productivity online.

Business blogs were designed to advertise products and services online. Moreover, a business blog is one method for a company to gain exposure online. Blogs also allow entrepreneurs a means to build a name in this vast world of online marketing.

A continued Journey into Online Marketing

Now about two months into this venture the teleseminar series concluded and I had to organize and prioritize the information from my notes for online marketing. Some of the information was redundant, so I had to focus on breaking all that information down into a useable form. I’m a Googler (if there is such a word), which means I had to google additional information for some of the topics I didn’t quite understand. As most of you know, if you can’t find it in the google search engine, it’s not out there.

I filled my hard-drive with tons of “how to” material, articles, free online marketing gadgets and so on. If it wasn’t bad enough, now I have information overload. I went from not having enough information to having more than I could digest. I honestly didn’t know what to do with all the information and much more how to prioritize it.

I had to step back and pray for a little Divine intervention and employ good old common sense. I started my online marketing venture with a web host, which seemed appropriate seeing I could kill two or three birds with one stone. Now I have someone to host my site, also included was a free domain name for life and the website design feature. After attempting to register twenty or so of my best domain names for my website, I had to settle for one of my least favorites. It wasn’t that I didn’t know what I was doing, just that all my best domain names had already been taken.

Now that I have a domain name registered, it’s time to use that free tool to build my website. I have to say without fail, many of the guest marketers from the online marketing teleseminar series warned against attempting this especially if you’ll never done it before. Well I didn’t listen because I’m the kind of person who has to know how things work.

Now sometimes we have to bump our fannies to realize that someone tried to steer us in the right direction. I was convinced that since I was a fast learner, I could master HTML within a reasonable amount of time, couldn’t I? Attempting to write much less understand HTML (HyperText Markup Language) was a challenge within itself. I bit off way more than I could chew and didn’t know not to swallow. I choked on all that had to be learned from putting together a website from scratch.

Don’t let these web hosting companies with free site building tools convince you that you can have a quality site up and running in minutes. Now I’m not talking to trained webmasters, I talking about the average person who has never done this before. My advise for the beginner is to acquire the services of a company that partners with contractors who can build you a quality website. Three that come to mind are Elance, Guru and Rent A Coder.

A Journey into Online Marketing

How many online marketing newbies are there? I started this blog because I am one of the many. I thought it would be interesting to document my journey into this vast world of Making Money Online. I had to stop and ask myself, why online marketing considering there is so much competition. The truth is that it looks like a good place to start making a residual income for my family.

Most of us know to survive you must have multiple streams of income in this present economy. So after reading numerous emails that state "Build an Online Business and put it on AUTOPILOT", I thought, yes that's what I'll do. Build an online marketing business and sit back while tons of money come rolling in automatically. Sounds good, but it's not that simple.

I decided to pursue this course after a number of emails from a well-known online marketer. The course consisted of a teleseminar series with twelve or thirteen interviews with other successful online marketers. For weeks I listened and took lots of notes as each guest marketer was questioned.

There was a lot of information given over the course of these many interviews, but we all know that you are only going to get a snippet from each guest. I was left with having to purchase each of the guest marketer’s course material to get all of what they teach. Now if you multiply the average cost of $1,200.00 per course by approximately 13 guests that would be costly. If you could afford to purchase any addition course material, you had to determine within your budget who and what it would be.

I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed, because I expected a sequential step by step, do this, don't do that kind of hand carrying blueprint. Now let me be clear, I'm not badmouthing the series. I’m just saying that I expected more direction.
