(Best Syndication News) - Supermoon is a term used to describe how large or how close the moon is to Earth and on Saturday, March 19, 2011, the full moon is going to be the larger than usual. The moon sometimes gets closer to Earth than at other times, this causes the moon to appear much larger.

There is a conspiracy theory brewing in that the Supermoons are related to the massive earthquakes and tsunamis. This however has not been proven. The moon is however shown to cause increased tides on a full moon because of gravitational pull.

The full moon on March 19, 2011 will be the closest it has been to Earth since 1992. When the Moon is closest to Earth it is said to be at its perigee. When it is at the farthest distance from Earth it is at its apogee.

GATE 2011 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) results have been announced at GATE offices of IISc (Indian Institute of Science) and seven IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) today. Candidates can check the result on its official website: http://www.iitk.ac.in/gate/gate2011.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination, which is conducted every year for the direct admission to M.Tech courses at the IISc and the seven IITs. GATE this year was conducted online and offline on 30 January and 13 February.

The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2011 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Madras. GATE qualification is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations.

India's First Film Alam Ara

On March 14, 1931 - exactly eighty years ago - the police had to be summoned to the Majestic cinema hall in Mumbai (then Bombay). The reason for the feared stampede was the uncontrollable response of movie-goers to the first Indian talkie, Alam Ara.

Celebrated by a Google Doodle on the homepage of the search engine in India to commemorate the arrival of sound to Indian cinema, Alam Ara also included the first song in Hindi films - setting off an endearing and enduring tradition. The song, De de khuda ke naam par, was performed on screen by actor Wazir Mohammed Khan - this, of course, was before the days of lip-syncing to playback tracks. The film, in fact, had seven songs, scored by Ferozshah M. Mistru and B. Irani.

The tragedy, however, is that the film may be lost forever. In 2008, an Information and Broadcasting ministry official revealed that no prints are now available with the National Archives of India. The last existing prints were destroyed in a fire at Pune's National Film Archives in 2003. A search was conducted across the country but no print of Alam Ara could be found.

Directed by Ardeshir Irani, the film is a love story between a prince and a gypsy girl. It starred master Vithal, Zubeida, LV Prasad and Prithviraj Kapoor. The film was shot mostly in at night to avoid capturing the noises of the day. Alam Ara was made using microphones that had to be hidden from the camera's view. It ran for two hours and four minutes, and used a Tanar Sound System to record the dialogue.

The amazing fact of a movie with dialogue that the audience could actually hear was advertised with the line 'All living. Breathing. 100 per cent talking.' The Hindi punchline was even more colorful: '78 murder insaan zinnia ho gaye. Unko bolte dekho.' (78 dead people come to life. Watch them speak.)

India's first talkie now remains only a memory, a scattering of images and, today, a 'Google Doodle.

India's Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was named the Cricketer of the Year at the ICC 2010 Awards at Bengaluru. His compatriot Virender Sehwag was named the Test Cricketer of the Year, while South African batsman A B de Villiers was named the ODI cricketer at the 2010 ICC Awards in Bangalore today.

This is Tendulkar's first ICC Award ever. India's most capped player was also part the 2010 ICC Test team, which was led by India skipper M S Dhoni. The whole team announced at Bangalore included Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, Simon Katich, Dale Steyn, Graeme Swann, James Anderson and Doug Bollinger.

Tendulkar was also named in the ODI team of the Year, which included Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson, Michael Hussey, de Villiers, Paul Collingwood, Dhoni, Daniel Vettori, Stuart Broad, Bollinger and Ryan Harris. Ricky Ponting was captain of the ODI team of the year 2010.

The best Twenty20 Performance of the Year was won by wicketkeeper batsman Brendon McCollum for his 116 not out against Australia in Christchurch in February this year.

The Emerging Player of the Year award went to 21-year-ol;d English cricketer Steven Finn. The ICC Spirit of Cricket Award was won by the New Zealand cricket team for the second time running. The Associate Player of the Year award was given to Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate, who had an excellent season in the English domestic season.

Allahabad High Court verdict, September 2010

On 30 September 2010, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court pronounced its verdict on the Ayodhya title suit. The three-judge bench ruled in a majority judgement (2 to 1) that one-third of the disputed land should be given to the Sunny Waqf Board, one-third to the Nirmohi Akhara and one-third to the party for 'Ram Lalla'. The court further ruled that the area where the idols of Ram are present shall be given to the Hindus in the final decree, and the rest of the land shall be divided equally by metes and bounds among the three parties.

India has Seven major Physiographic

7. Bordering seas and islands

India has Seven principal Mountain
ranges
1. the Himalayas
2. the Patkai and other ranges bordering India
in the North & North East
3. the Vindhyas, which separate the Indo-
Gangetic plain from the Deccan Plateau
4. the Satpura
5. the Aravalli
6. the Sahayadri, which covers the Eastern
fringe of the West Coast plains and
7. the Eastern Ghats, irregularly scattered on
the East Coast and, forming the boundary
of the East Coast plains.
Himalayas, the highest mountain - system in the
world, is also one of the world's youngest mountain
ranges

National EMBLEM
The State Emblem of India is an adaptation from
the Sarnath Lion Capital of Asoka as preserved in the
Sarnath Museum. The Government adopted the emblem
on 26th January, 1950, the day when India became a
Republic.
In the State Emblem adopted by the Government,
only three lions are visible, the fourth being hidden
from view. The wheel appears in relief in the centre of
the abacus with a bull on the right and a horse on the
left and the outlines of the other wheels on the extreme
right and left.
The bell-shaped lotus has been omitted. The
Words, Saytameva Jayate from the Mundaka Upanishad
meaning ‘Truth alone triumphs’ are inscribed below the
abacus in Devanagari script.

National FLAG
The National Flag is a horizontal tri-colour of
deep saffron (Kesari) at the top, white in the middle
and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. The
ratio of the width of the flag to its length is two to
three. In the centre of white band is a wheel, in navy
blue, which represents the Charkha (Khadi Spinning
Wheel). Its design is that of the wheel (Chakra) which
appears on the abacus of the Sarnath Lion Capital of
Asoka. Its diameter approximates the width of the
white band. It has 24 spokes.
The design of the National Flag was adopted by
the Constituent Assembly of India on 22nd July, 1947.
Its use and display are regulated by a code.
Rabindranath Tagore’s song, Jana-gana-mana was
adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the National
Anthem of India on 24th January 1950. The first stanza
(out of 5 stanzas) of the song, forms the National
Anthem.

National Calendar
The Saka year has the normal 365 days and
begins with Chaitra as its first month. The days of the
Saka calendar have permanent correspondence with
the dates of the Gregorian Calendar, Chaitra 1 falling on
March 22 in a normal year and on March 21 in a Leap
Year. The National Calendar commenced on Chaitra
1 Saka, 1879 corresponding to March 22, 1957 A
