Brahmi turns director

Dr.Brahmanandam is no less than a superstar in popularity and in stardom. Most of the Telugu people check out whether Brahmanandam stars in, before they plan to go to watch a Telugu movie. In fact, you hardly find any Telugu movie that does not have his presence. After winning several awards, honorary doctorates, padma purshakarams, and setting Guinness records, the star comedian now takes up megaphone.

Brahmi, as he is fondly called, has already begun his maiden directorial venture and completed its first schedule. Playing himself in the lead role along with several other comedians and actors, Brahmi is directing the script penned by another comedian 'Vennela' Kishore. And interestingly, the movie is titled - Jaffa. Yes, you read it right, it is Jaffa.

Though Brahmi is keeping the film's details under the wraps, Telugucinema.com has come to know that he's also planning to rope in a top actress to play guest role. He wants to announce the movie to the media once he completes the talkie portion of the film.

Orrey Jaffa is oft-used phrase by Brahmi in his films. The word has no specific meaning in Telugu language but it is now being used by general public in their daily lives to describe someone as idiot, thanks to the constant usage of the word by this comedian.

Though NTR now commands huge fan following in urban areas and overseas market, his core audiences are those who reside in the villages and towns of Andhra Pradesh. That is why he is called king of masses. And the mass audiences prefer him having thick mustache as in interiors of South India, mustache is symbol of real magatanam (virility). So after playing city slick guy in films like Brindavanam and recent Oosaravelli with clean shaven look, NTR is back sporting thick mustache.

He was spotted with his new look at the audio launch of Gopichand starrer Mogudu on October 11, 2011. He will be appearing with this style in his next release, Dammu , being directed by Boyapati Srinu.

Oosaravelli - Movie Review

Junior NTR could not convince or satisfy his fans fully with his soft new look in the Sreenu Vytla's film Brindavanam. The actor continues with the same soft image in Oosaravelli. Has director Surender Reddy succeeded in his attempt to come up with a good mix of romance, action, comedy and sentiment? Let us see.

Story: The story is about a young girl Niharika (Tamanna) who loses her brother Shaam and his wife and children. They are all killed by some unidentified goons. Niharika herself is injured in the attack and a bullet is lodged in her brain. She is presumed to be dead but a doctor friend after realising that she is still alive takes her to a hostile and gets her treated. She approaches Tony (Jr NTR) and request him to eliminate all the gangsters, who have killed her bother and his family. Tony initially refuses but later agrees after listening to her plight.

Performance: Jr NTR looks cute in his soft look image as Tony. His character is confusing and the name Oosaravelli is apt for his role. NTR also does a good job in the fight and dance sequences as usual. There are however not many punch dialogues for NTR in the film. This would surely disappoint all his fans. Tamanna has a lengthy role and she does complete justice to her role. She gets scope to show her acting skills and there is not much of a skin show. Payal Ghosh of Prayanam fame appears in the role of Tamanna's friend and she is good.

Jayaprakash Reddy, Raghu Babu, MS Narayana and gang come up with yet another routine comedy act. Prakash Raj plays the big don and his role is brief and lacks the punch. Shaam is okay and so in Rehman. Mukul Sharma is wasted. The rest do their jobs as required.

Positive: The one big positive thing in Oosaravelli is that the director has tried something new and different. Tamanna also gets a good role that has scope for action. She does complete justice to her role. NTR brings in positive energy. The twists are good. The cinematography by Rasool Ellore is impressive. The music is good and NTR comes up with a few good dance movements.

Negative: The slow pace of the film in the first half is a minus. The film also does not exactly pick up pace in the second half either. The climax is boring. The editing is also not up to the mark as the film runs for nearly two hours and forty five minutes. The songs also do not exactly rock on the screen. The comedy is routine and the sentiment is weak.

Verdict: Oosaravelli promises big but falls very short of expectations. For the fans of NTR, their dream of a blockbuster hit from their star is not going to come true. Oosaravelli is an average entertainer.

Vellore Mavattam Movie Review

Nandha dons a khakhi for the first time and plays a rough tough cop in 'Vellore Mavattam'. At a time when filmmakers go around Madurai and its interior villages, director RNR Manohar of 'Masilamani' fame has chosen Vellore as the movie's backdrop and has used its geographical locations well to deliver a slick entertainer.

Although cop stories need no introduction in Tamil cinema, the swift screenplay of 'Vellore Mavattam' sets it apart.

Nandha plays an IPS officer who fights not just against evil men in the society or anti-socials, but corrupt men within the police department too. Poorna plays his wife while the cast includes Azhagam Perumal, GM Kumar, Santhanam and Mayilsamy.

Muthukumar (Nandha) is the son of a vegetable vendor in a village. His father wants him to study well and come good in life. He strives and becomes an IPS officer. After a brief stint of training at National Police Academy, Muthukumar is appointed as Additional Superintendent of Police in Vellore district. Meanwhile, he meets Priya (Poorna) and both fall for each other. They eventually get married.

Muthukumar's problems start after he aspires to make Vellore a haven of peace. But there is Gurumurthy (Azhagam Perumal) who with his nexus with politicians and police officers play spoilsport on Muthukumar's dreams.

Nandha is bubbly, agile as young police officer. He looks trim and seems to have done his home work well. He has enough stunt sequences too. Poorna as Nandha's wife has a small role to essay but she makes an impression with the little role she has. Santhanam as constable Kumaravelu tickles your funny bone, but at places goes overboard with double entendre.

GM Kumar and Mayilsamy form part of the cast. Azhagam Perumal plays a baddie. Cinematographer Vettri has captured Vellore district well, while editor Suraj Kavee tries to liven up the pace thanks to his scissors. His crisp editing deserves special mention. Sundar C Babu's music is peppy. Produced by AGS Entertainment, 'Vellore Mavattam' is good in most parts, although the script may set in a sense of d�j� vu, it's quite entertaining.

Love, commitments, relationships – it is most difficult to explore a topic that has been dealt with a billion times already in Bollywood. Love Breakups Zindagi, a slice of life does just that.

Directed and written by Sahil Sangha, the movie stars Zayed Khan and Diya Mirza essaying the lead roles in the film. Love Breakups Zindagi is the first movie produced under the banner of Bonfire entertainment, which is a Dia Mirza-Sahil Sangha-Zayed Khan production company. Love Breakups Zindagi explores relationships and talks about love, romance and breakup. The plot has two stories going side by side - Zayed-Dia-Vaibhav and Cyrus-Tisca.

Love Breakups Zindagi's extended title 'a slice of life' is apt as the film boasts of many sequences which happens on a day to day basis and is easy to relate to. Sahil Sangha is a fine story teller and has made an honest effort to narrate the story as sensitively and simply as possible without making it too hushy-mushy. However, Love Breakups Zindagi lets you down completely in the second half as the story is dragged on and on until the end. The climax, in fact is even more disheartening. The film lacks crisp editing and that clearly shows.

Music by Salim-Sulaiman is top notch. The song 'Rab Rakha' is powerful while 'Rozaana' is a nice and foot tapping soundtrack. 'Main Se Meena Se', the remix version is amazing. Full marks to cinematographer Aseem Bajaj. The breathtakingly beautiful picturesque and landscape has been beautifully captured by the camera.

Story

Jai (Zayed Khan), who is a marketing executive in Delhi is of the opinion that opposites attract and hence is dating a bossy girl Radhika (Pallavi Sharda), whose personality is opposite of his own. Meanwhile, Naina (Dia Mirza), who is a photographer by profession based out of Mumbai makes an attempt to make her relationship work with her workaholic investment banker boyfriend Dhruv (Vaibhav Talwar).

Jai's best buddy Arjun (Satyadeep Misra) and Naina's good friend Gayatri (Auritra Ghosh) are getting married in Chandigarh. That is where Jai and Naina meet for the first time. Though the two vibe very well, it falls a little short of love as both are already in a committed relationship.
Meanwhile, we see Jai and Arjun's friend Govind (Cyrus Sahukar) getting close to Arjun’s aunt Sheila (Tisca Chopra). Govind is an interesting character, who is twice divorced and still is open to making new girl friends.

After the wedding, everybody goes back to the routine. However, Jai happens to visit Mumbai for some work and decides to catch up with Dia. Meanwhile, Govind is also seen having coffee dates with Sheila.
Shahrukh Khan plays himself in the film and says in the end, “Eventually in life and films everything has a happy ending”.

Performance
Love Breakups Zindagi truly belongs to Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza. Zayed Khan is outstanding and so is Dia Mirza. Zayed's depiction of emotional sequences is truly worth watching. Dia has done complete justice to her role as Naina. The character suits her perfectly well. Tisca Chopra, Cyrus Sahukar, Satyadeep Misra, Auritra Ghosh and Vaibhav Talwar are natural actors and have done a wonderful job. Umang Jain is okay whereas Farida Jalal is lovable. However, Soni Razdan doesn't have much to do in the film.

Love Breakups Zindagi has special appearances by Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Riteish Deshmukh and Shahrukh Khan.

Overall, Love Breakups Zindagi is strictly okay – can be watched at least once.

Young tiger NTR Junior is back after his debacle ‘Shakti’. This time, he has paired up with the milky white beauty Tamannah under the direction of Surender Reddy. Is it colorful enough? let us see..

Story:
Tony (NTR) is a street-side goon in Mumbai who does anything for money and is currently in Hyderabad.

He comes across Niharika (Tamannah) and falls in love with her. After an initial yes and no, Niharika also falls in love with Tony. Meanwhile, Tony joins the gang of Sarkar (Jayaprakash Reddy) and through a sequence of events he reaches the mafia don Azzu Bhai’s (Prakash Raj) brother.

But he starts killing one by one and this leads to conflict between him and Niharika. However, Tony’s killing mission is all for a reason and it has a long flashback. What is that flashback? How is Niharika involved in that? What are the various traits of Tony? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances
NTR Junior comes across with reasonable performance. He underplayed when compared to his natural instincts of histrionics. He was good in dances and delivering few punch dialogues.

Tamannah has come up with a performance driven role. Overall, she did a decent job. The much wanted glamour treat has not worked this time. But still she glowed well in a couple of songs.

Prakash Raj has done this several times. For a change, he arrives only during the second half but as long as he is there, he makes his presence felt.

Payal Ghosh got a meaty role and she made good use of it. Jayaprakash Reddy brought few smiles as Sarkar with his dialogue delivery. Raghu Babu was equally funny as chain Shiva.

Shaam came and went, same with Sayaji Shinde. Rahman was neat. M S Narayana was apt. Murali Sharma was not used to his potential. The other artists just did their bit as required and filled the screen.

Analysis:
Surender Reddy proved his mettle as an action and entertaining director with ‘Kick’ so the expectations were high on this one.

With the positive pre-release hype that was making rounds, everything looked set. And watching the first half makes you feel that you can expect another super hit. The interval bang raises the expectations.

But things begin to spiral down during the second half. As such, the thought process of the director is understood but he was unable to conceive it with the right punch on the screen. He lost crispness in narrating. Had the scissors worked well on second half, it would become a better film.

There are those fluctuations which are easily seen and one can feel the drag. The good side of the film is the different treatment to the script and giving an elevation to the heroine’s character. But due to the lack of depth in certain scenes, few situations pass off lightly.

For NTR fans, this will be a different treat. Except one or two high octane dialogues, most of his character is about guessing and unpredictability.

If the makers had focused on increasing the comedy track in the second half along with providing a convincing climax fight sequences, the film would have been a lot better.

At the box office, the film will land in safe zone but expecting it to be a historical grosser is a tough task.

Bottomline: Can be watched once
