It was okay as I noted in my rating. The story felt stiff and the flow seemed off. I lost interest and really had to force myself to finish. Not sure that I will continue the series. Maybe I'll put it off for a while.

I downloaded the first of four books in the Undead in Brown County series as a FREE Amazon ebook. After a non-stop reading session of The Vampire's Warden, I was hooked and immediately downloaded the next book in the series.

Even though some of the same traits are included, the series does put a different spin on supernaturals. I thoroughly enjoyed all four books. The books in this series are very short, and the four books together would probably be the length of the books I normally read, but they were worth the money.

I'm on the lookout for Book 5, The Vampire's Heir.

I've been binge listening to Laurell K. Hamilton's, Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. It was a last resort because of bad reviews I read. The reviews were bad not the books. I'll start the audio for book #11 tomorrow. I'm skipping book #10 for now since I haven't been able to find an audio version and I don't have time to sit down and read.

Free Audiobooks with OverDrive and the Public Library

After losing my hunger for reading or listening to audiobooks for several months, I slowly started gaining interest again, except for one major problem...finding time to sit down and read a book/eBook

I'm an Audible subscriber and I accumulated a few credits that I didn't want to lose, so I started listening and using my archive of credits. I began catching up on my favorite authors, and my credits ran out after about a week. Out of credits and still hungry for more urban fantasy and paranormal romance, I purchased a few audiobooks, but I was going through about one audiobook per day, so of course, I couldn't that up.

Desperate for more I remembered my public library membership that I usually used only for children's books for the family. Thinking that it was worth a shot and at the least I would be able to download a few free eBooks and may find time to.squeeze in a few hours here and there to.read I gave it a shot.

Surprise, surprise, surprise... there's and app for that called Overdrive. Not only are eBooks available for download but also audiobooks. I immediately downloaded Overdrive, connected it to my public library account and started searching for books from my "to read" list at GoodReads.com. I found the Kitty Norville Series by Carrie Vaughn and The Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine. Even though my library doesn't appear to have newer releases available as audiobooks, it's still a treat to be able to listen to FREE audiobooks.

I am able to check out multiple eBooks or audiobooks for up to 21 days. Even if something is not available because it's already checked out since the library has limited quantities available, I'm able to put them on hold right there in the app and I receive an email when the item is available for download.

The overdrive app is a little buggy and stops periodically for reasons I have yet to.figure out, and even though it doesn't have the greatest looking interface or as many features as the Audible App, I still like it and besides, I'm not going to complain too much since I'm listening to free audiobooks.

Enough about Overdrive... off to listen to Kitty Takes a Holiday, Book 3 in the Kitty Norville Series by Carrie Vaughn.

Kitty Norville is a midnight-shift DJ for a Denver radio station and a werewolf in the closet. Her new late-night advice show for the supernaturally disadvantaged is a raging success, but it's Kitty who can use some help. With one sexy werewolf-hunter and a few homicidal undead on her tail, Kitty may have bitten off more than she can chew?

A bit intriguing and different from what I normally read, Kitty is a dull. The story is subtle and not in your face, but I like in your face. I initially thought it was the author doing a bit of world building, but in the last chapter or so I realized that the story was just mediocre. In the end I felt it was cut short and it seemed there should be more. I wanted more story.

I like the originality of Kitty and I suspect this was a book that I should have actually read rather than listen to, because the voice of the reader made the audio feel as if most of the story was a radio broadcast even when Kitty wasn't on air.

I plan to continue with the series hoping there will be more action and less radio show.

After a slow listening start (I think I had to much on my mind in early July to focus on the story) I started listening again yesterday, and I was quickly absorbed into the characters and the plot.

The falsetto of narrator, Eric G. Dove, took a little getting use to, especially for the Grier Childe character, but I thinkg overall the narration was great and made the story really come alive. Other people around me started listening and asking questions about the story as they were drawn in.

Although it had been a while since I read, Covet (Fallen Angels, Book 1), I was able to pick up and move forward with Crave with the refreshers provided by the author. The romance was practically non-existent, but there was more than enough going on to make up for it. Besides, it would have seemed odd for Isaac to soften too much considering his background.

I'm all set to start on book 3 in the series, Envy.

This is a series that is near and dear to my heart, however Dead Reckoning left me feeling like I could have missed it and not missed much. The plot was somewhat predictable and not as impressive as the previous 9 books (book 10 was also a bit blah as well). I hope the series continues, but I also would like more excitement and mystery.
