The Wrath of "Ondoy"

Tropical storm "Ondoy" shocked everyone this weekend here in Metro Manila, Rizal and other neighboring provinces that were truly devastated by its wrath. Many people didn’t expect that this tropical storm will cause the death of so many lives and the destruction of million’s worth of properties particularly in Marikina, Pasig, Quezon City of Metro Manila and Cainta and other parts of Rizal. The direction of the storm was not mainly focused here in Metro Manila but still its effect was a very tragic one. Many thought that it was just an ordinary storm that will partly affects NCR and eventually leave our country but everyone was shocked when its heavy rains continued to pour. For just six hours of continuous heavy rains it turned a living place into a swamp. According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) that six hours amount of rainfall can be compared to one month amount of normal rainfall and according also to the weather bureau, what happened this weekend exceeded what had happened in 1967.

Ondoy brought rains that weather specialists described as “anomalous." While it did not develop into a typhoon, Ondoy brought rains of 341 millimeters (mm) in the first six hours that it struck Metropolitan Manila on Saturday, breaking the highest 24-hour rainfall of 334 mm in Metropolitan Manila in June 1967, according to the Philippines’ weather forecasting bureau.

The Philippines’ maximum annual rainfall is only 4,064 mm or 338.6 per month or 11.3 mm per day. Ondoy’s 341-mm of rain in six hours was equivalent to more than 30 days of rainfall.

In its latest report, the NDCC also said that damage in property caused by Ondoy was worth P1.4 billion, including 204 houses totally destroyed, and 354 houses partially destroyed. - GMANews.tv

As of the moment, there were over 100 fatalities and 32 more individuals are still missing. Poor, rich and even stars were not spared by this storm. All we need to do now is to pray, because the weather is not yet stable and the rain from time to time still pours.

Kanye West Ruins Taylor Swif's MTV VMA Moment

I only heard now about the MTV’s Video Music Awards 2009 incident from my friend and I can say that at first, I could not believe that such a humiliating incident will happen in MTV's Video Music Awards especially when someone like Kanye West(rapper) will uttered such unkind comment to Taylor Swift who won the Best Female Video Award for the song "You Belong with Me". This dumbass guy climbed on stage, interrupted the speech of Taylor Swift and took the microphone away from Ms. Swift and said these words,

"Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,"

Terribly, it was a shocking moment for all and mainly to Ms. Taylor Swift, who was speechless, in a pure state of shock and a teary eyed. In return he was booed by the audience and they started to cheer Ms. Swift.

When Beyonce later won and will be recieving her award for Best Video of the Year for "Single Ladies”, she asked Taylor Swift to join her on stage and gave her the moment to finish her acceptance speech. A rude act for West but a kind gesture for Beyonce.

If Kanye West got a problem on how they choose who to win an award, then he should just settle it with the award giving body itself and not to humiliate innocent person who simply does her craft at her best. He ruins the moment of a 19-year-old lady and that is unacceptable.

I like Taylor Swift a lot not only because she is beautiful but also the kind of songs she wrote and its messages. And for you Kanye West, what you did clearly reflects who you really are, that you were not properly raced by whom you were, when you were growing up! You should consult a counselor to teach you a proper manner.

Juan Martin del Potro Won the US Open Title

Indeed, not all the things that you want could possibly happen, I’ve said on my previous post that I was looking forward seeing Federer and Nadal in the US Open Finals but unfortunately it didn’t happen at all. Juan Martin del Potro, the sixth-seeded Argentine who defeated first Rafael Nadal in their semifinal match with an overwhelming 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win, also puts Roger Federer in distress.

del Potro upsets Roger Federer and ended his quest becoming the first ever person to have six consecutive titles at the US Open. The match went on five sets 3-6, 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2, that sets del Potro as the second Argentine next to Guillermo Vilas who won the same title back in 1977.

Federer was two points away from victory in the 4th set but del Potro managed to survive and outscored Federer in the final set 6-2. The 4th set razes the focus and concentration of Roger and couldn’t find ways to make points in his serve. On the other hand the 6-foot-6 Argentine powerful forehand and well focused game plan were his key to win the match. With his victory, del Potro will move to 5th rank in the ATP rankings.

US Open: Kiss and Hug for Rafael Nadal

Two more wins for Roger Federer to have his six consecutive US Open title. Federer defeated Robin Soderling in the quarterfinals of the US open 6-0, 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(6), to set his 22nd consecutive Grand Slam semifinal. He will be facing his next opponent Novak Djokovic on Saturday in the semis and could possibly be heading to the finals on Sunday. For a record, Federer defeated Djokovic during the Australian Open in 2008 so there’s a lot of advantage for him to win the match.

On the lighter side of the US Open, a fan with all eagerness, passed the security personnel and kissed and hugged Rafael Nadal who was shirtless, after his victory over Gael Monfils. This incident really surprised Nadal because out of nowhere there was this die hard fan of him who jumped over the wall intruding in the court and gave him a hug and a kiss while he was packing his tennis bag. Nadal didn’t show any rude reactions instead he smiled and went back to packing his things.

"For me, it wasn't a problem. The guy was really nice. He said, 'I love you,' and he kissed me."

With that intruding incident the guy, Noam Aorta, 23, will be charged with trespassing and could get one year in prison if ever convicted and a $5000 fine.

Is the guy a straight one, a gay, or just a super fan? Hehehe… whatever his sexual preference is, it doesn’t matter at all, what matters for me now is seeing Nadal and Federer in the finals!

Efren and Django won the World Cup of Pool Championship 2009

A come-from-behind win from our country’s pool legends Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante with a score of 11-9 from their 7-9 deficit at middle part of their match, against the formidable tandem of Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann of Germany. The popular pair regains the much coveted PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool title as they first have it during its inaugural staging in 2006.

Efren and Francisco also struggled in their semi-final match against the Chinese duo Fu Jian-bo and Li He-wen with a thrilling 9-8 win. Hometown crowd who were expecting an all-Filipino showdown in the finals were somehow disappointed because RP pair A, Dennis Orculo and Ronnie Alcano were defeated by the Germans in the semi-final that leads to Germany vs Philippines in the final.

It was a nerve-wracking match due to those unexpected crucial errors from both pairs, a mere indication that even legends in their forte can also commit simple errors. Pressures were all up for Django and Efren as the Philippines were the host country of this year, but even under pressure they still managed not to disappoint their fans. Efren also showcased his funny side with all the dances and funny facial expressions that made the crowd laugh on their sits.

They bagged the top prize of $60,000 and the Germans got $30,000 for the runner up prize. Billiard could not be won basing only on how well you play the game, on how you place the cue ball in preparation for the next shot and how you hide the cue ball to defend the opponents from nailing a shot but also billiard as what Efren has been saying in all his interviews, “it is paired with LUCK”, so I guess they’ve got all this time to regain the title.

Hello dudes, soon I’ll be launching my gameblog as I’m trying to finish it at the soonest possible time. That’s the reason why I was absent in the blogging world and that I wasn’t able to post anything in this blog for a number of days. I’m actually having a difficult time editing the template of my gameblog because the template is not a usual template where you can edit the fonts and colors in its corresponding section. I have to locate each part in its css then modify it. Changing the sizes(padding, margin, width,height,etc..) of its original layout and as well as the original images that it contains eats much of my time. But still, little by little it will soon turn out the way I want it to be, a simple yet a fun blog for all.

For all of you who visited this site even if I didn’t visit you back, I really thank you so much! Don’t worry because I’m on the finishing part already with my gameblog and I can assure you all that I can now do my regular blogrounds. See ya all dudes in your sites! Filipino Fighters Dominated "Pinoy Power 2"

Though it was unfortunate for Bernabe Concepcion who failed to steal the WBO featherweight title to Steven Luevano of the US, there is still a reason for us Filipinos to celebrate because two of our fighters won over their respective opponents.

Bernabe Concepcion loss the fight due to disqualification, for landing punches after the bell. A blunder for Abe which was spiced-up with a little bit drama on the part of Luevano that resulted for the referee’s decision to end up the fight. Luevano’s delayed reaction that knocked him off in his feet is really ridiculous. But still a mistake is a mistake, and he managed to use that wrong moved of Bernabe in his advantage to win the fight.

A new name into our ears, Mark Jason Melligen set his name in boxing making him the new prospect to watch out for by knocking his Mexican rival Ernesto Zepeda in the fourth round.

The main fight was won by Nonito “Pinoy Flash” Donaire who sneaked the WBA interim super flyweight title being victorious over his Panamanian opponent Raul Concepcion. Nonito dominated the whole fight eventhough Raul Concepcion was much heavier than him. It was a decisive match for Nonito winning it by a unanimous decision and for this, Filipino fighters have proven once again that they’re a true warrior inside the boxing ring.

Willie Revillame: No Respect to Pres. Cory's Cortege!

First and foremost I would like to clear that there’s no network war involve in this post. I’m not an avid fan of both these giant networks (ABS-CBN and GMA), nor an avid television viewer. I much prefer to go online rather than watching shows in the television. So to cut it short, “there’s no bias”, just my point of view! I would just like to express my deep anger to the host of Wowowee, Willie Revillame and my great disappointment to his own mother network (ABS-CBN) in regards to the unpleasant incident that happened last August 3 on the said noontime show.

Willie Revillame uttered obnoxious comments, when an inset live feed of Pres. Cory’s cortege was shown in the TV screen. This is the video of what happened and his discourteous statements:

"Kung ganyan, pakita na lang natin 'yan. Kasi nagsasaya kami dito, tapos... Masakit sa akin 'yan, e. Nagsasalita ako dito... 'yan, please. Sana maintindihan n'yo. Nagsasaya kami dito, papakita n'yo sa amin yun ang... di ba? Hindi tama, e. Okey? Hindi ba?"

"Pangit! Hindi ho maganda sa atin. Nagsasalita, ipinapakita yung kabaong ni Tita Cory, hindi ba? Papano kami makapagsasaya, nahihirapan kami? I'm sorry ho, ha. Pero ako, totoo ako, e. 'Wag n'yo akong pagagalitan, kasi totoo ang gusto kong malaman...

"Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita n'yo ang gusto n'yong palabas. Kasi itong Wowowee, gusto ko... Hindi ba, at alam din ni Tita Cory 'yan dahil napasaya rin siya ng show na ito na laging masaya dito, ok?"

I agree that it’s not proper to rejoice while others mourn, so if this was his ground to blurt such a bigheaded statements ON-AIR rather than doing it off-cam, then he should have just voluntary sacrifice and chose to give way rather than asking the management to choose between him (FUN) or Pres. Cory (RESPECT), to give respect for what the late Pres. did to our country. And it’s very clear, the management chose not to show the live footage of the funeral cortege, they chose fun instead of paying respect to the late president. It just pictured how insensitive ABS-CBN is.

They should be reminded that Pres. Cory was the one who brought back the existence of their network. Marcos regime took over the management of ABS-CBN from the Lopezes during the martial law so the network including the entire nation owes Pres. Cory the freedom we are now enjoying!

Many groups and different politicians condemned what Revillame did. Yes, he’s again in the limelight, limelight of arrogance as usual that caused the revolt of many Filipinos here and abroad. Arrogance is not new to him anyway he is known for that, and I will not be surprised if he will do again his “paawa epek” to get his viewers’ sympathy. Not all the time is his time. I was surprised because I thought that he is the “puppy”, but it turned out that his network is his “puppy”!

Enough is enough! Here is a Petition to oust Willie Revillame.

Road Traffic Accidents

These days it’s very alarming to see every night in the news different road traffic accidents. Many were caused by these reckless drivers who made the road as their playground and not following different road regulations. I don’t know how come these people got their driver’s license with no discipline at all while driving. Public Utility Buses especially here in Metro Manila are the main offenders and I’m happy that somehow LTFRB taken some necessary actions and that is not renewing the franchise contract of 800 buses and banning them to go to the road again. Another cause of RTA’s here in Metro Manila is those roads that are unfinished and broken. Motorcycles are the major victims of these roads especially at night. We should also include drunk drivers who still insist to drive eventhough they’re not in their normal state of mind.

Here are Facts about Road Traffic Accidents:

1. The global annual cost of RTA is almost 230 billion dollars.

2. 1.2 million people Die every year due to Road Traffic Accidents (RTA).

3. Every day, there are 3300 deaths and 6600 serious injuries on the road in the world.

4. Approximately 850,000 deaths occur in those who are under 45 years of age in developing countries and are the sole bread-winners for their families.

5. Road Traffic Accidents cause injury to about 50 million people in the world.

6. Every tenth bed in the hospital is occupied by an accident victim.

7. The average cost of RTA in developing countries is estimated at 65 billion dollars,
8. Trauma related death occurs in India every 1.9 minutes.

9. About 120,000 people die on the road in India every year and a majority of them are pedestrians.

10. 1.27 Million People in India sustain serious injuries due to RTA.

11. Although India has only 1% of the world’s motor vehicles, but it accounts for 6% of the total global RTA deaths.

12. The cost of these accidents and death is Rs.550 Crores or 12.5 billion dollars every year.

13. A majority of major accident survivors are either confined to the bed or wheel chair bound

for the rest of their lives due to brain injury or spinal cord injury.

14. Alcohol intoxication causing RTA is present in 15-20% of all traffic accidents.

15. The best chance of survival from a serious RTA victim is, if they are brought into the casualty department within the first hour of trauma or the so called Golden hour.

Goodbye and Thank You Cory (1933-2009)

It was a very busy weekend for me that I didn’t even have my time to do my blog rounds and post on the death of former President Corazon C. Aquino last Saturday. So before I go to sleep tonight, I just want to post this to express my gratitude to Cory an “Icon of Democracy” in the Philippines, and might as well send my condolence for the bereave family and also to the whole nation because she’s such a big loss for a nation whose democracy is indistinct.

Corazon C. Aquino a plain housewife who turned as Ninoy’s widow and soon became the very First Woman President of the Republic of the Philippines passed away last Saturday 3:18 a.m. at the age of 76, due to cardiorespiratory arrest. She was diagnosed March of last year with a colon cancer and undergwent chemotherapy. This June, because of her loss of appetite that caused the weakening of her body she was brought at the Makati Medical Center and from that time she never leave the hospital because of her unstable condition.

During the Martial Law, she ignited fire in the hearts of the Filipinos and led them into a peaceful revolution against the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. The assassination of her husband Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. served as her turning point to respond the challenge of the entire nation for the cause of justice. She was a woman of courage and bravery who withstand all the numerous challenges during her term of presidency. With all those coups that happened, she still stayed strong and managed to continue her ideals on what a democracy should be.

Now that she is gone, we should not mourn nor grieve but rather celebrate for she is now beyond pain and sufferings, and that she’s already with our Creator. We should be happy also because knowing that she is there with our Creator she can tell and ask easily to end the long suffering of our country and grant us what we have been longing for such a long time, our liberty from corruptions and deceit, liberty from political killings, liberty from misgovernance and to have a true DEMOCRACY that is “made by the people and for the people”!

Here's the open letter to President Barack Obama that was published yesterday in newspapers here in the Philippines. This open letter of Drillon and a host of others emphasizes the misgovernance of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that causes the extensive suffering of the Filipinos and urging Obama to see the present situation of our country. Arroyo and Obama will held a meeting today and many of the Filipinos are hoping that this open letter will reach Obama or the White House ahead of the meeting.

Pinoy News: Baby with two Heads

This report got my interest as I watched the news awhile ago. A two-headed baby girl(conjoined twins) was born Tuesday night at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital here in Manila. The baby girl was born through a Ceasarian delivery and because of her weak condition she was placed in the neo-natal care unit. Facebook Breaches Canadian Privacy Law

Facebook, the popular online social networking site was reported violating the Canadian Privacy Law. With all the developments and different features added to it, privacy is still the main issue and became more complex as time goes by. This five-year old social networking site was accused in storing personal information eventhough their users deactivated or deleted their accounts already. According also to Canada's privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart, Facebook’s developers who create its application such as games and quizzes can also access and manage to see user’s profile information. It was estimated that there are over 12 million Canadian and over 250 million people all over the globe are now using this popular site. While the numbers of its users are rapidly growing they should act accordingly in maintaining proper safeguards to ensure its users that their privacy is not vulnerable.

The Palo Alto, California-based company said earlier this month that it was overhauling its privacy controls in an attempt to simplify its users'
ability to control who sees the information they share on the site.

To make the settings easier, Facebook said it would consolidate its existing six privacy pages and more than 30 settings onto a single privacy page. It will also standardize the options for each setting so the choices are always the same, something that hasn't always been the case.

"It's clear that privacy issues are top of mind for Facebook, and yet we found serious privacy gaps in the way the site operates," Stoddart said in a statement, adding that understanding Facebook features can be confusing.

For example, the "account settings" page describes how to deactivate accounts but not how to remove personal data from Facebook's computer servers. She wants Facebook to remove personal data in deactivated accounts after a reasonable length of time.

Stoddart calls for more transparency to ensure the site's Canadian users have the information they need to make decisions about how widely they share personal information.

The privacy commissioner will review Facebook's actions after 30 days to gauge progress. She can take the case to the Federal Court of Canada to have her recommendations enforced.

Facebook declined interview requests Thursday, but issued a statement reiterating it was working on new privacy features that it believes "will keep the site at the forefront of user privacy and address any remaining concerns the commission may have." It added that in the meantime, it will continue to work with the commissioner's office and to raise awareness about its privacy controls.
