'Senior Engineer Loss Prevention - Bangkok'

My Client is looking for an Asian expatriate for this role. The expected daily rate is ranging from *450 to 600 USD* net to the successful candidate, all inclusive (housing, local transportation, schooling).

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain standards, procedures, philosophy and guidelines related to loss prevention engineering which is at least equivalent to national regulation and international best practice.

Provide consultation and apply loss prevention process throughout all phases of project development including exploration, conceptual studies, pre-project, engineering design, construction and installation, commissioning and start-up, development drilling, production and facilities management, and abandonment. This is included but not limited to:

Study and evaluation of modifications
Assessment of the safety deviations
Assessment of the Downgraded Situations

Facilitate, review and provide advice on specific safety studies regarding loss prevention engineering for Projects, Assets and Divisions as necessary.

Use appropriate software and tools for safety analysis, calculation and
design aids.

Investigate High Potential Incident/ Accident and provide advice on preventive measures and remedial actions then ensure all actions are closed out properly.

Perform regular audit for compliance with SSHE Management System including

Loss Prevention and Risk Assessment Standard.

Qualifications and Requirements:
-Bachelors Degree in Engineering.
-Good understanding of oil and gas exploration and production process.

-10-15 years experience as Loss Prevention Engineer

-10-15 years experience in onshore or offshore work.
-Have a comprehensive knowledge in loss prevention process, safety study and
safety analysis techniques such as;
-Facilitate or lead HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, JSA, QRA, SIMOPS, BOWTIE.
-Develop, implement and update Safety Case.
-Perform projects technical review and operation technical review
-Ability to use safety analysis software i.e. FRED, BOWTIE, etc.
-Understand the incident/ accident investigation techniques.
-Good knowledge of industry Codes, Standards and legislation on SSHE aspect.
-Strong leadership skills and good communication skills
-Good command of spoken and written English

Although a resume’s function is not to get you a job, it helps a lot to get you a chance for job interviews. Follow the tips below and prepare a resume that is able to market yourself to potential employers.

Length
Human resources professionals usually receive huge number of job applications every day. So a resume that is clear and precise will certainly make you stand out from others. Even though there is no limitation to the length of a resume, one to two pages are desirable and the maximum is three pages.

Relevant information
If you want to give as much information as possible within two pages of your resume, you should only give information relevant to the job. Avoid personal details such as hobbies, marital status, weight, height or number of children you have.

Achievements
To distinguish yourself from other applicants, do not just list out job responsibilities in the past. Most employers know these already. Instead, try to highlight achievements especially quantifiable ones.

Key words
Some large organisations scan resumes by looking for key words of certain industries or skill sets. Therefore, use key words such as contract negotiation, project management, network support, and product development.

Proofreading
Remember to proofread your resume again and again to avoid any typos. Misspelled words will give an impression that either you do not know the spelling or that you do not put effort in preparing your resume. Some employers, especially those in the editorial field, throw away resumes with spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Design
The design is as important as the content. Make your resume easy and comfortable to read. Highlight your strengths clearly. Do not print it on fancy coloured paper.

Even if you apply jobs in the same industry, different firms have different requirements. Tailor your resume to employers’ needs. When your resume reaches the hand of the human resources staff, it may stay there for only 15 seconds. So, make it a useful marketing tool. It may help you win a dream job.

How to Write a Cover Letter

Before you are granted a job interview, a cover letter is the first means to communicate with your potential future employer. So you should spend some time to prepare it to give a good impression to employers. The following are tips for writing a cover letter.

Tone
You should be polite in writing the letter. In addition, try to show your strengths and enthusiasm in applying for the job advertised. Use positive words such as pleased, keen, devoted and strong.

Length
The letter should not be too long (2-3 pages) or too short (only 1-2 paragraphs). One page with 3-5 paragraphs is desirable. Human Resources staff do not have much time to read through all applications. So, they will not choose long cover letters to read. For short letters, it is impossible to tell the employers much by one or two paragraphs only.

Content
At the beginning, you should state the job position you are applying for. Companies may be recruiting a number of positions at one time and it would be helpful if you state the position clearly to avoid being considered for the wrong job. Do not repeat information in the resume. Instead, address the job requirements and tell the employer why you think you are suitable for the position. You can state your skills and your personalities which match the job requirements. Even if you do want to mention your experience, highlight the accomplishments only. You have to state clearly the documents you are attaching to the letter, including resume, portfolio of work or reference letters. In the last paragraph, let the employer know that you are available for job interviews and how they can contact you.

Signature
Remember to sign your letter if you are going to send it by post.

Proofreading
After you have finished writing the letter, read it over and over again to make sure there is no spelling or grammatical mistakes. Don't just rely on the spellcheck programme installed in the computer. Sometimes a word is not misspelled, but it is used wrong. In such cases, spellcheck programmes may not be able to detect them. Even one single mistake in the letter will give a bad impression to the employer. Don't lose a mark because of that.

Design
Use quality white A4 paper to print your letter. Give enough space between the paragraphs so that the recipient can read your letter comfortably. Remember that every job has specific requirements, and it is essential to tailor the cover letter to every job you apply for. Don't make it a “standard” letter by just changing the company name and position you are applying for and then sending it out every time. In addition, keep a copy of the letter for future reference. You may find this helpful when you are later granted an interview for that position.

1. Understand the world — life exists beyond New York, London or Los Angeles, central Indiana and in some areas, it’s a very different life. Experience different people, cultures and areas.

2. Understand that there isn’t a “public”. There are hundreds of “publics” who relate to your issue or product. Each one may demand a different approach.

3. Be broad based in your education. As an employer, I am more impressed with a new graduate who has political science, psychology, history, literature and arts as a background than one who has only public relations courses.

4. Learn business and finance. Whether you work for a public relations firm, a not-for-profit or corporate, you will need to a) do budgeting, forecasts, projections, ROI, ROA or b) have to talk to fellow managers and speak their language.

5. Keep up to date on technology. Be equally attuned to RSS, blogs and Twitter and Jabber as you are with MySpace and Facebook. But remember these are only pipelines for your message.

6. Be current on contemporary trends. Be as well versed in “Mall Cop” and “American Idol” and “Fringe” as you are (should be) with Ansel Adams, Picasso and Mahler. (Watching prime-time TV in our business is not a bad thing, despite what your boss may tell you.)

7. Know the news and understand the context as it may affect you and your clients/organization. How does the Obama administration affect your organization’s interests? What impact will the financial bail-outs have on you – look beyond the obvious and see how present day issues affect every institution, even if the issue isn’t immediately obvious.

8. Be curious. Ask hard questions, THINK! Look beyond the obvious: what might be the outcomes of this “program” years down the road? What new approach would work? What regulatory roadblocks must be considered? What does history or literature tell us?

9. Know and understand media. Work in a newsroom or on a beat. Experience painful editing and unbeatable deadlines. Know how reporters, editors, writers, photographers and videographers think and work.

10. Know how to write!!! Regardless of the medium, our product is thoughts and words — the right words. Be able to put a cogent thought on paper (OK…on the screen) without adjectives, with active tense and in a format that communicates and drives action.

10+2. Participate in life and your job. Be brave enough to speak up and share your thoughts and opinions. As an employer and a boss I want to hear from everybody and know that you can contribute intellectually as well as technically. Don’t sit on the sidelines. Turn off the X-Box and do stuff.

10+3. Be yourself, but be flexible, appreciate and learn from the learning experiences you’ll encounter…including those boring stories by you parents and your future bosses. Been there, done that, does have value.

For many young beginners in the workforce, the finish line seems so far away that it becomes a figment of the imagination. You realize that you’re at step one and as the weeks go by, you accept how much there is to learn, realizing that all you can do is give your all and hope it’s enough. It isn’t until the strategic thinking and leadership skills of company VP’s begins to permeate the room like the smell of chocolate from the Ghirardelli’s store that you begin to understand how high the ladder really is. You feel utterly lost and that you have little to contribute. How could you offer anything as valuable as their insight? This realization stings and eats away at your self-confidence. The climb to the next rung on the ladder becomes harder, more wind resistance despite the flashy spandex pants.

Getting to this point however, requires just as much work as that of trying to wade through the piles sitting on your desk, ready to engulf you at your weakest moment. Hours are spent picking out the perfect resume paper, analyzing which fonts might have the highest rate of return, talking yourself into being the most confident and humble person all at the same time, and last but not least, surviving the comfort that is the fancy black suit, tie, or heels in order to look ‘sharp.’

I bring up these concerns because they are those of most young professionals, proven by the hour long Q & A session at the recent PRSSA presentation on resume and interview tips,’ courtesy of The Lucas Group, a professional recruiting company. The event attracted nearly twenty of us young professionals, and we took full advantage of the opportunity to drill the two women from Lucas Group about our job prospecting woes. What we walked away with was the unsugar-coated version of answers to resume writing and interview questions as well as a ‘thank goodness I’m not alone’ sentiment about being a young professional. I’ll include some reminders below which everyone might find useful, regardless of your age.

With the advent of the internet and electronic resume viewing, the one-page rule has been thrown out the window. Apparently, 8.5×11 doesn’t hold the power it once did.
When leaving voicemails with employers, you have 10-30 seconds to sell yourself. Isn’t it nice to know that your life boils down to 30 seconds? Be specific to what you bring to the table, what you can offer them and why you’re the best man/woman for the job. Call three or four times, and if you still don’t hear back, have the last one be an ‘assumption call.’ In other words, ‘I’m assuming you’re not interested, but if I’m wrong…’ Oh, and if you can’t get through to a direct number, call the receptionist and play the dumb card to get someone who can help you. They’re nice people. They want you to succeed, and they’re probably bored.
When asked about salary requirements, be aware that they’re trying to see if they can afford you. Find something in a 10K range from what you want and err on the high side since the final offer will be lower than you requested. More importantly, dodge the ‘make it or break it’ salary question with all your might. Focus on how if you’re a good fit and if they want to make you an offer, that you expect the compensation will be fair and competitive, but not a problem. Be honest about what you currently make including benefit packages. Have you heard of W-2’s? Because they have, and they won’t be afraid to check yours if they think you’re lying.
When asked in an interview what your greatest weakness is, don’t say the following: ‘I’m a perfectionist, I work too hard, I don’t have any weaknesses,’ or any major personality flaw that may demonstrate honesty, but will inevitably cross your name off their list. They’re probing for soft spots, so show them how although you’re not perfect, you are strong enough to fix it. Show action toward this idea.
Research the company beforehand. Let them do most of the talking, but offer concise and brilliant answers to any questions directed your way. Ask if they have any doubts so that you can cast your candidacy more positively. Have questions. Be yourself and be fun. Nobody wants to work with a stick-in-the-mud! Verbally express interest in the position or the company – try it a couple times for good measure. Send a thank you note. Stay positive because if you get the job, you have avoided the potential cardboard box lifestyle, and if you didn’t get the job, there is probably a reason and you wouldn’t’ be happy in the long run anyhow.

One day, a new desk is filled and the young college graduate sitting in your old squeaky swivel chair is looking to you for guidance. You see their wavering confidence, their naivety and their “I’m going to jump off the cliff into something new’ frame of mind. You know what it took to get where they are, and you also know how far they have left to climb. Before you get too jazzed about this realization that you’re no longer at the bottom, just remember that your own ladder hasn’t ended. Don’t even think about taking off the spandex

Mark your calendar for January, because that should be just about when you will start your new gig. No joke. The U.S. Department of Labor reports it takes the average American about four months to find a job. January is four months away. So what if you could slash months from that search and be sitting thankful around Thanksgiving with a new job? You already have some positive job search karma on your side. Unemployment is low — 4.7 percent. And companies nationwide are hiring at an active pace, with 28 percent of employers saying they will add workers to their payrolls through December, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. In Indianapolis, 33 percent say they will hire more. Of course, unemployment rates and hiring are out of your control, but there are some things you can do. Take note of these five tips to quickly get the job you want. Dedicate yourself. The average job seeker spends fewer than 15 hours a week looking for a job and in the end gets two job interviews, says Michael Farr, author of “The Very Quick Job Search.” If you are serious about finding the right job, you have to be willing to invest the time. If you don’t have a job now, make your career search a 40-hour-a-week assignment. If you do, spend nights and weekends doing the research. The more openings you find, the more resumes you send, the more interviews you will get. “The bottom line is that people who spend more time on their job search will usually get jobs faster,” Farr says. Get real about pay. “A lot of times, people think they will get a 30, 40, 50 percent raise in salary just because they are changing jobs,” says Gary Daugenti, president of JustSTAFF, an executive search firm in Los Altos, Calif. If you’re making $30,000 now and think you can get a new job paying $50,000, plan on your job search lasting a few years, he says. Know the going rate for the position you’re considering, and see if it’s one you could live with. Don’t expect the employer to think you’re so great that he will plump the pay just for you. One of the quickest ways to get weeded out of the interview process is to ask for a salary that’s too high. Search familiar territory. Target your industry. If you are in the pharmaceutical sales industry, don’t go for a job with a company making auto parts. That drastic change won’t appeal to employers, who are looking for familiarity. “They’re looking for your experience,” says Daugenti. “They’re looking for your contacts.” That doesn’t mean you have to move to the same position at a different company. For example, if you are an accountant sick of accounting and want to go into sales, look for a company that sells accounting software. Your expertise in the industry gives you a leg up. Know yourself. People have to understand what they do well. “Know your strengths, and how they can be applied to the corporate environment,” says Jeff Hawn, managing partner at Princeton One Search in Columbus, Ohio. Someone who doesn’t enjoy public speaking shouldn’t go into sales. Someone who is great with numbers and can do Excel spreadsheets in her sleep should look at finance or controller jobs. Mesh your skills and preferences with an open job, and say it loud and clear in the cover letter. When you get the interview, your enthusiasm for the job will naturally show through. Know the company. Forty-seven percent of executives say having little or no knowledge of the company is the most common mistake job seekers make, according to Accountemps. Before you go on an interview, search the company’s Web site and find out a few facts about what’s going on. Are mergers pending? A community cause the company is tied to? You don’t need to rattle off details at the interview, but it helps to sound knowledgeable when asked, “What do you know about our company?” “Say something that shows you did a little bit of research,” Daugenti says.
