Preparations for the 2013 Halloween yard haunt are already underway! We're revisiting the "Witches" theme and it's not always easy to find highly detailed Halloween masks in the genre you want in any given year. So we figured we better start looking now and found this beauty on eBay. A witch hat, wig, and some red LED eyes and she'll be ready to go!

Another Zombie Creation

Finished making another zombie for the Halloween yard haunt today. Just a child's costume and mask over our standing pirate skeleton prop from 2006. Tweaked with a pair of plastic eye balls and some monster hands. That skeleton prop has been reincarnated numerous times over the past several Halloweens and has come back as a witch, ghost, and vampire.

This zombie creation was made using a $10 half mask, $16 wig, over a poseable latex skeleton torso which we originally purchased as a chained pirate skeleton back in 2006. I stuck a couple of ping pong balls in the eye sockets. A tattered blood stained button shirt will complete the ensemble.

38 days until Halloween! This is the basic story board for this year's zombie themed yard haunt. Not going to be building any major props this year. Had plenty of grandiose ideas, but neither the time nor budget to pull them off. However, a rather inexpensive life sized transparent window poster will hopefully create the effect of my earlier prop build idea I had earlier this summer. We acquired a few new props today and will be dressing up some old skeleton props as zombies. With the proper lighting, some smaller detail items, and of course plenty of jack-o-lanterns, we think it will be a pretty good looking haunt.

Planning For Halloween 2012

Happy Friday the 13th! After a seven month hiatus it's time to start thinking about Halloween again. Today we started planning for the 2012 Halloween Yard Haunt. Think we're going the "Zombies" route this year and the barn scene from The Walking Dead has inspired me to sketch this concept for this year's prop build. It's a variation of our "Haunted Shack" and "Pirate Ship Wreck" props from prior years, but will be scaled to fit along the side wall of our garage.

Happy Halloween! It's been a busy couple of days. Saturday we cleaned and carved pumpkins. Set up the display yesterday afternoon and then took photos last night and tweaked a few things today. Getting a better handle on how to go about decorating the new place. Going to be cold tonight, but it's dry for a change. Actually will be able to run the fog machine tonight for a change! Hoping for a lot of trick-or-treaters tonight. Here's a teaser pic of tonight's Halloween display.

This was our second year attending the Ontario Pathways Pumpkin Walk in Canandaigua. There's something magical about walking along a dark wooded trail lined with hundreds of jack-o'-lanterns.
